Are you the type who thrives on competition? Someone who enjoys smack talk and could use a group to keep you accountable - daily - of your word count? Do you know, deep down, - if you were truly honest with yourself - that you'll most likely still be writing on the last day of Nanowrimo, trying to reach that (according to some) measly 50k?
If so, then this is the place for you! Save this forum link and come back each day to report on your progress, defend your honor, and (if you are ever so lucky), boast about your word count.
So, are you in? Respond below and friend everyone who posts, since it looks like (with the new website changes) our current word counts aren't posted anymore.
To my credit, I only started writing my manuscript two weeks ago (8th of November). Still, my word count is 22,600 so I'm bopping along at a decent enough clip. Problem? I seem to be slowing down and I think it's because I'm going TOO fast. I'm sure you bunch can empathise with that one. I keep having to go back to make sure what I wrote the day before actually makes sense.
Also, I have my doubts about whether or not I'll finish by the November deadline . . .
I know I shouldn't post here but... I'm sure I could use some people who taunt me when I slack off, lol.
I'm at 11,067 words right now. But if my soon-to-be not-really-a-novel was a TV show, at this point we'd be about 10 minutes into the pilot. What can I say, I get wordy when I have the opportunity.
I am also a prodigious word-spewer, apparently. I only got up to chapter 5 on my pre-November outline (out of 20-30?) but I'm still in chapter 1 with 8,000 words, and chapter 3 is going to be really long. At this rate I may *never* have to figure out what happens past chapter five.
Well, a published novel tends to be 75,000 to 150,000 words (depends on the genre), so looks like you're in good shape for that. But, since this is suppose to be slam talk here, I am going to point out to all of you that slow and steady is the best way to go. With those speeds, you're likely to burn out very soon!
I'm at 7.5k and I have the opposite problem. I feel like some of the chapters are really sparse but I'm not going back to editing them. That's for next month.
At this rate, I'm sure I can make the goal but...y'know...that's if I don't get real lazy.
Welcome, Lisa86 and E.M. Jeanmougin. Well, you two are definitely doing well, but I know from experience, a lot can happen in 30 days. It doesn't take much to get offtrack, and I'll send all of my distractions your way. I'm holding myself to the 1667 words a day, and I thought I was doing well. But if you two are my competitors, I suppose I have some writing I need to do!
Everyone posted yesterday their word counts and it looks like no one has added anything today. Wow, I am so going to pass all of you. *cracks knuckles* I honestly thought you'd blow me out of the water, but you're already sitting back, thinking you're at a comfortable number. This'll be easy! Here I come!
Bring it on :p Current word count is 7,000. Tomorrow I have a 2 hour write-in and on Saturday I have a 2 hour train journey. Both with NO INTERNET! Followed by a stay in London with no Internet on my laptop (but one kinda clingy, neglected boyfriend so I guess that'll balance out the lack of Internet there.)
yeah I totally need someone to get my butt in gear, 834 words in total day three. I want to say its because my computer broke but that's a lie i could be writing all the time on my mom's. so trash talk my face off just so i'll prove you wrong, please.
The Day 3 Curse, which happens to everything I start, hit me today and I wrote next to nothing until past 2.30 in the evening - I played Mahjong, for god's sake, even my procrastination sucked today - at which point I wrote about a thousand words in less than half an hour. I got a little carried away and elements of the governments of several alien races now look down on humans. Oops.
Right now I'm at 12,438 words, it's late but I'm not quitting till I hit 13k. Right now I'm kind of on a roll and explaining things I never intended to happen so I'll keep going for now. Sleep is for pansies anyway, am I right?
I don't see a word count from YOU either, InkTrace.
LadyTapreea, I would say you're above such pathetic excuses, but I don't know you yet. Prove me right, or prove me wrong - we'll see when you post your word count tomorrow.
Day 3 and I have 7,000 words (which seems like total slacking next to you folk!) and I'm up to chapter 6. Right now the chapters are pretty brief as I lay the ground work for the first people who are dying. Pretty soon we'll begin actually hunting down the killer and those chapter are three times as long.
I'm hoping to add 3,000 words/day since my final will be closer to 100,000 and it's just part 1 of a series. I wrote the sequel to this piece last year and that one needs to be extended. Then I'll write the companion pieces that revolve around the other characters.
so no change in the word count but OMG I GOT A NEW COMPUTER MY PARENTS ARE SO AWESOME. I so excited I just hide it !!!! They surprised me today so I have no excuse but I love my new computer !
Oh yay! Boasting! Ribbing! Procrastinating! My favorite things all in one thread. : )
LadyTapreea - that's freaking sweet! You better get writing on that thing! New computers are so exciting, it should be able to propel you forward out of sheer giddiness. Your post made me feel kind of giddy cause it reminded me of how I felt to get my new computer almost a year ago.
I'm at... 11,455. My goal for today is still 12,000 or more, since I'm trying to go with 3k a day for as long as I can stand to do that. I keep procrastinating... it got so bad today (I didn't start writing until after 5 and I do not have a job or school at the moment...) that I finally opened up Write or Die, wrote a scene twice, and broke the fourth wall, which I kept telling myself I absolutely would not do! I'll be back when I reach 12,000, and if I manage it without breaking any walls or impersonating Negative Nancy towards my own writing, I'll hand out some kind of virtual smile-inducing something-or-other.
*sigh* This is day four. I really should still be capable of coherency.
Ugh. Today was a bad day, my main character spent the entire day thinking about the complexities of his country's political system while waiting for a ride. I broke 12000 though, and tomorrow can't possibly be worse.
So, it's still Day 4 here, we should be at 6,668 words. I know I'm slacking but that's only because I haven't written yet today. Thought I'd stir things up here before I get to work. But go ahead - send all your hits this way. I can take it.
LadyTapreea, what's this with 1,858? Are you even trying? You know Day 5 isn't too far behind, if it isn't already here for you. :-P
E.M. Jeanmougin, Kaleidoscope27, KellyinCA, and invdrzim - keeping just ahead of the daily average. You're only a few thousand ahead of me and I plan to beat you all tonight! You better start writing now or I'll be leaving you far behind!
lisa86, J.Kievsky, EMT-TKJ, and LilithDee - what's this 12,000+ word count? Don't you have lives? I encourage you to take a break, get some sleep, and maybe even add in some food. You're looking good, so no need to push yourself. Here's a some cheese doodles to remind you what food tastes like. I'd like to see you type with cheese fingers...
Alright, you all have been enough of a distraction. Time to work some magic!
You better get on that word count, InkTrace. I'm looking at your stats page and instead of climbing that stairway to heaven, it looks like you're walking in place.
Thanks for your concern, J.Kievsky. ;-) Yeah, I wasn't able to work on my story yesterday, but don't worry - I've been making lots of mental notes. I have enough material to make at least today's average. Already over 1k since you last checked my stats and I'm not done yet!
I've changed my word goal for the month to 100k. So even though I broke 12k, I suddenly feel a little behind.
InkTrace LIVES? What are these LIVES you speak of? Do they have cheese puffs?
...I want to nom on cheese puffs now. Thanks a lot! And come on... you're almost a whole... 80something words from your word goal today! Where are those 80 words, huh? Huh?! xD
LadyTapreea You show that computer who's boss! Careful it doesn't show ya back, though. Do not let the shiny distract you. (Like I am... ooh shiny forums...)
LilithDee, yes, lives do contain cheese puffs. You could also go to the movies and enjoy fresh popcorn (nothing but the best for you!). Something to think about, especially if you need a break. You could even call it research for your novel, since there's lots of hero movies out. :)
80 words have been claimed and more! I'm now trying to reach Saturday's goal. Your taunting is like cheers to my ears. But, I admit, I've beaten J.Kievsky's 2,643 word count for the day and I'm very satisfied with that. Oh, what the hell. I'll try to break 8k before I head to bed.
I could use the push, since I'm a bit behind at 5,104, but I have to proctor a test this morning and writing is one of the ONLY things I CAN do! I'm coming for you guys! Mwahaha!

Sun's setting so I'm finally inside, and I've still got seven hours before bedtime, so we'll see about that.

Love playful trash-talk and the people who can simultaneously take it and dish it out. I'm in!
About to start writing for the first time today; still at 8K.
Re: Looking for Competitors
Aaaahh another Zim lover! I adopted the name for one of my characters. ;)

You won't be able to keep it up, you've already run out of walls to break to boost your word count!
Re: Looking for Competitors
Oh noes! I will not accept this! My room is an octagon!
Re: Looking for Competitors
so today I started with 834 words right now I have 1858 over double! I love my new laptop!

Here's your chance to prove that it was the *computer* that was the problem.

I don't have a life, I go and save them!!! Seriously, I'm an EMT.
I have a pretty high word count, but I'm getting them in before I start doing nothing but shifts at the ambulance, ER, and OR
