Is anyone out there poly?

I saw queer threads, engaged threads, single threads and all that but I was wondering if there was any other folks who were polyamorous and doing NaNo.

How are your partners (if you have more than one) treading you? Do they understand why you're taking on this crazy task? Are they joining you?

Re: Is anyone out there poly?

I am. It's kind of nice knowing that there's someone else out there who is and isn't afraid to tell others.

My two boyfriends are very sweet about it; they know when to let me write and when to come over and pester me and give me ideas. One works overnights at Wal Mart so he isn't home to give ideas but my other boyfriend who works as a Truck Unloader at Wally World gets home at 1am every day he works and helps me. ^.^

Oh, that is awesome! My partner is doing NaNo (and Novel In 90) with me, so we're going crazy together and handing off each other's novels to read when we get the break dime. *laughs*.

As for being out about it, yeah I'm...not very good about *not* being out on certain things. I recently came out as genderfluid and it was one of the last things I was closeted about and just...It feels good to be out, you know? I don't exactly flaunt things but if the subject comes up or I'm seeing a lot of other things being represented and something I am isn't, I kind of feel like speaking up.

Re: Is anyone out there poly?

I'm writing a novel about people who are—if that counts? :) They wouldn't see themselves as polyamorous since this is the 1910s and they don't even see themselves as in a "relationship," all of them being male. But the central characters are involved in a triangle romance in which all three are aware of the others.

I also have a complete modern novel about polyamorists that I've never been able to find a poly beta reader for—someone who could knock me over the head with, "We would never do/say that! You're getting polyamory all wrong!" So . . . if anyone's interested post-NaNo and would like to NaNoMail me . . . ??? *Wink wink, nudge nudge*

I don't know if you'd be interested by my partner is both poly and looking to get editing credits. I'm not usre if you're looking for an all out editor or a quick beta, so I didn't want to PM yo9u with this but I thought I would get that out there.

As for everything else, that is awesome! I love seeing poly set in different times and the past especially. It's just a kink of mine, I guess. So knowing that you're doing that kind of makes me glee a lot.

Re: Is anyone out there poly?

Yeah, I can understand that. People where I live tend to have very religious views (being in a rural county in the first place, it seems many people are more religious in my area that I first thought) and they actually oppose us wherever we go. It's one of the most frustrating things I've ever had to deal with. Even when I came out as a pansexual, I never had this kind of an issue with people.

Sadly, since they both work at Wal Mart, it seems like that's the place where the rumors and gossip come from most. >.< It's as if once people realize they cannot harass you about your personal lives that they make every excuse imaginable (including trying to actually have me banned from the entire store while either boyfriend is working which is 6 days a week).

GlassWolf: I've just recently gotten into this kind of relationship (for the past 6 months or so) so I'm not honestly quite for sure if I'd have plenty of knowledge on the entire subject. And, with this being Nanowrimo, many of us will be focused on writing or finishing our novels before the end of November. But, it'd be kind of interesting to possibly read into that sometime later on once I've gotten to my goal. ^.^

Just looking for basic beta. It's actually a novel I've set aside for a long time and need to go back and do another rewrite on. It's daunting trying to pitch a mainstream novel with polyamorous MCs, even if the book was freaking awesome—and I wouldn't go that far. :)

Hope your novels are going wonderfully!

*raises hand* Late to the party, but I'm poly, although currently only single-partnered (husband, who is also NaNoing).

My three MCs are poly in this year's novel; it jumps back and forth between an undefined 'now' time, where they're discussing their relationship with (I think) a pre-marriage counsellor or someone like that, and the early stages of their relationship. I'm trying to keep it split evenly between them as to whose POV I write from.

Thanks for the bump, Lauren. I'd missed this.

Also poly, here. And writing a novel about a society where people generally participate in multiple romantic relationships at a time, and then there's the one poor monogamous guy...

I don't have any hard-and-fast romantic partners at the moment; my best friend/lover is used to me blogging a lot, so this is nothing new for him, and the rest of my lover-friends don't live in the area, so those who are aware of my NaNo-ing are cheering me on from afar.

Same here. I tried it twice. The first time I was involved with both of my partners, but they were not involved with one another. Things got weird when one of them wanted to be with the other and she kind of just left. Then there was the open relationship where we each had other partners, but we were the only common denominator.

It was rough and it ended up really, really not working out. I'm now monogamous, but I'm always glad to hear about poly people who have great, strong relationships. Warms me heart. Yarr.

This is insanely ridiculous. Do they really think you're going there just to be a distraction? (They probably do, because people like that are stupid.)

I know >.< It's so frustrating sometimes when it comes to their co-workers. I started telling them to quit asking and sticking their noses into our business and it took the Regional Manager of their Wal Mart coming down and telling people to quit it or else. Now, I get little snip its of rumors going around and I just wanna face palm sometimes because they're being so childish.

Both of the guys and I live together and it doesn't usually bother them. It's the stress of the pregnancy and such that tends to make them on edge though D: Both of the guys are un-involved with each other since one is straight and the other is bi-curious x3 But I still love them both the same. =)

I'm not poly — I don't think — but my now-ex-girlfriend is. (No, she's not doing Nano.) So I got introduced to poly at the same time I got introduced to how to be in a relationship, which was interesting... :-) Obviously, it didn't work out as well as it might have (though I don't consider poly the primary reason we broke up — we're also different in about fifty billion other ways). I don't really think the "more than one relationship at a time" thing would work for me personally (just one was quite tricky enough!), but I've discovered I actually think about that conclusion now, as opposed to automatically jumping to monogamy because of not knowing or understanding anything else. I'm good with that.

So... *waves from the sidelines*

Re: Is anyone out there poly?

I grew up in an open community so I knew more than a few other people who were poly. I wasn't actively looking for the same thing myself, but I ended up in a triad. I love our family: I have a wonderful wife, a fantastic husband, and we share two awesome daughters. My family and husband's family are all supportive of us (wife doesn't talk to her family for other reasons), the neighbors all more or less tolerate us, so the only time there is anything awkward is the occasional stuff with the girls' schools or when they make new friends. Now that I have this life, I can't imagine being happy living another way. Yes, there are complications like any relationship, but when I look around at what I have and realize just how lucky I am--I am proud to be poly. :D

When it comes to writing, I like to show that there are diverse types of loving relationships. I try to leave the options open and let my characters find whatever suits them best--gay, bi, straight, poly, monogamous, whatever.
