I've been really lucky, my husband is extraordinarily supportive when it comes to NaNoWriMo. He's more convinced than I am that I'll be published one day. I don't want to brag ( I totally want to brag) but he's been making dinners and taking over some extra chores while I type away. It actually makes me feel a bit guilty when I procrastinate (like right now) instead of writing because I know that he's making sacrifices for this goal. I also feel guilty because my writing is really cutting into date nights and other quality time we spend together. How are your spouses/partners/friends with benefits dealing with NaNoWriMo? Do you have plans to make it up to them in the future?
My fiance isn't quite as supportive as your husband. It probably stems from the fact that I'm at home all day, and he's out working. I still do the cooking, and cleaning, etc, that I would normally do. But he has every confidence that I'll make it, so I'm trying hard, for the both of us. The best thing, is that we normally stay in anyway since he's working on his dissertation...whoa..idea that literally just came to me. If we stay in anyway...why don't I nano every month? (Duh). because, like now, I'm way too prone to procrastination. I need something to hit me over the head and tell me to just do it!...wait...I'm rambling. I guess I won't make it up to him. I don't think I really have to, considering all the time he's putting into his procrastinating...I mean writing. lol.
He's writing a little bit with me. He has only written a few thousand words but considering he's never done anything novel-like before that's pretty good. I told him to kick my ass and remind me to write but he hasn't been doing that. :( But we did one write-in by ourselves and might go to a Nano write-in tomorrow.
Mine is already working under the assumption that I'm crazy and this is just another one of the crazy things I do. Depending on the day, he'll egg me on, like if I'm procrastinating he'll look at my screen and say "That doesn't look like writing", or he'll distract me by poking me, prodding me and trying to reach over my shoulder and type for me. A few days ago, he said he thought I didn't have enough "Q's" - I told him if he touched my manuscript I'd kill him :)
My husband is very supportive of my writing in general. He's the one who says that I can do anything, because time after time I've proven to him that I can. He says I'm always just like "I'm going to do X" and then I do it. It's awesome to have a partner who really believes in me 100%. Although, honestly, I don't think I could have married someone who wasn't like that.
My husband has been encouraging me to begin writing again for awhile. Literature is someone baffling to him, as someone who finds math equations infinitely more interesting than a book. That being said, he is very excited about the work I've put in and encourages me to succeed. He does not, however, enjoy doing the dishes twice as much! He claims I get double duty in December.
My husband has been telling me to write like crazy! He wants me to finish it, and like the OP's husband, he convinced I'll be published one day. He's also been helping out really well around the house, which is HUGE for him.
My live-in BF is very supportive as a matter of fact he left the house yesterday so that I could play 4,000 word catchup!! and when I'm done writing he listens to me bitch about my plot, character, and word count. He gets me a beer when I'm too busy writing to do it my own damned self, he feeds me when I forget to eat. When alls said and done he puts on a movie and cuddles with me too!
My husband is very supportive of me - cheering me on when I pass the day's goal, being eager to listen to my story as it develops, and gently nudging me when I start to procrastinate. He started me on the novel-writing idea in the first place (he was the one who wanted to write one, but work gets in the way), so I figure I can share this experience with him.
My fiance is mostly amazing this month. He's never done it, so he assumes that it's pretty easy. So when I say I have 1k to write before midnight, he sees that as me celebrating rather than freaking out over how much I have left to write.
However, he also doesn't mind how often I start complaining about my characters or enjoying my own genius and he will do it with me.
My husband is really supportive too. In fact, he actually says "Be writey!" when I'm slacking off lol! We both have our computers in the spare room, so he's sitting behind me at the moment working on some programming (he's very techy hehe) while I....well, procrastinate lol!
I'm expecting the next "Be writey!" to be coming my way any minute ;)
I have the world's most supportive husband. He watched me complete middle grade novel over the summer, so he knows I can do it. He also went though the ups and downs of rejections and nibbles from agents last month and the month before. He is in seminary full time and working full time as a youth minister, but he still finds ways to help and support my writing. God bless that wonderful man.
my wife understands and supports me but she was also the one who banned from writing earlier this week when my back was really bad - wouldnt let me go near my word documents with all my NaNo stuff. She keeps me reminding me that it is not abou the quantity but the quality that matters
My husband is dealing with Nano all right. He isn't being as supportive as the others here though. He tries but...oh well. He is does constantly tell me to write, and tries to give me time alone, but on the other hand he also keeps pulling up shows that he knows I want to watch during the times when I've just sat down to write for the day.
But I know he's trying to be supportive in his own way.
He is being really encouraging about it which is really helping me. He helps me get my butt in gear for actually getting down to some writing because he's always asking me, "Did you write today?" I'm grateful I have the support :)
My girlfriend? She, being states away at the moment, gets annoyed when I poke her in IM or text about the story, but once she's online and I can talk to her? She demands updates. She's my beta reader, part of my back-up system, the one who helps me make sure my explanations are understandable, finds random typos I missed, and helps propel me forward to finish by demanding MOAR UPDATES.
In short? Very supportive. Scarily so at some points.
My boyfriend is very supportive of me doing Nano actually. =) He asks me what my word count is and when I set myself small goals to meet in the day, he thinks it's cute and gives me lots of love and encouragement when I meet or pass the goals. :3
My boyfriend is pretty neutral about it... then again, I mainly write at work since I have a desk job at night while he's sleeping. He started to do NaNo to but stopped when he decided he wasn't the type to write as fast as possible to get it out. Silly perfectionist thing. But when I tell him how much I wrote in a day (like yesterday when I had a 5k day!) and what I'm at versus what I'm supposed to be, he encourages me to keep going. Though he does get a little sad when I go to write-ins because he doesn't "see the point" of them. Other than pure distraction and occasionally word wars. Occasionally.
How is your significant other dealing with NaNoWriMo?

I gave him a backrub, I hope that cancels out all the time I'm taking from him.

My boyfriend is great. I keep texting him my word count and he replies with encouragement each time.
Plus, he just got Skyrim, so he's fine with me writing now while we hang out--he gets to play his game.
Re: How is your significant other dealing with NaNoWriMo?
I just bought him Sky Rim so he has something to do while I'm writing! Haha!
