Tattoos!

Who out there has some ink permanently embedded in their skin? I have a lot, and there is still more to come. Post pictures, tell stories about why you have them, etc etc. None of mine REALLY have stories, I guess, but I'll add my snippets, I guess. LHSflute can say just how random my tattoo experience is. We went to lunch with my artist (his lunch break) and... I ended up with a tattoo. Go figure. Most painful spot? Inner bicep. Ow. -- Number 1: This is on my lower back, and my artist took my vague ideas of what I wanted ("I don't know, something like a knot, but with a shamrock?") and drew this up. I had just turned 18, and this was my birthday present. Tattoo 1 Number 2/3: When I first started really getting into music on my own (so, without parental influence), I was 14, and had just discovered the band Mountain Con (local Seattle band). They got my into promoting, they helped me see a different side of being a fan, everything. They were the biggest influence on my musical life. The barcode has their name in it "MTCON" and is part of their logo. The music notes around it show their discography, and their ultimate break-up. (barcode and music notes were separate tattoo sessions; I count them as 2) Tattoo 2 and 3 Number 4: A... skeleton fish named George? The only story is I wanted a new tattoo, my family rents a house in Oregon, and this was an iron sculpture on the wall. Most of my family got the same fish, but in different areas. Mine is on my left forearm. I thought it was kind of Tim Burton-esque. Tattoo 4 Number 5/6: As I said, music is my life. So, added on to George with the mist, music notes up my arm, and "Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil" in Latin. Tattoo 5 Tattoo 6 Number 7: This will be a few pictures; it's a bigger piece that wraps around my arm a bit. This has the least story. Death has always fascinated me. I love the image of the birds flying away. The lyrics are from Alkaline Trio's "Continental" and I felt that it went with it well. Tattoo 7 Part 1 Tattoo 7 Part 2 Tattoo 7 Part 3 Number 8: Shmee, from the comics Squee! by Jhonen Vasquez. His art was such a major part of my life as a teenager, but I wanted to get something that wasn't Gir (as much as I love him) or something else obvious. I love it. Tattoo 8 Number 9: Lyrics from the Morrissey song "I Have Forgiven Jesus" that fit with the morbid image on the front of the arm (see: Tattoo 7 Part 1). "Why did you stick me in self deprecating bones and skin?" Tattoo 9 Number 10: "Veritas" at the top of my spine. My friend and I both got a tattoo from Boondock Saints; I got Connor's hand tattoo, she got Murphy's (Aequitas). It's our favorite movie, we watch it all the time and we quote it constantly. I have my last name tattooed on my foot. I come from a family of 5 daughters, and we were talking one day about if we all get married and change our last names, that will be the death of "Bridges". So we all decided to it on our feet. In the end, 2 out of 5 got it. My oldest sister was pregnant when we decided, then she was breastfeeding, then she got pregnant again, so now she'll be breastfeeding again, and then she wants a third right away. She's basically a lost cause. She'll have talked herself out of it long before she's done breeding. My youngest sisters are still under 18, and my mum said absolutely not until they turn 18. It was nice in theory, and it's still nice to have, but my sisters are so lame! Haha.

I really want to get something in German tattooed on me one day, but I can't decide what. MCR lyrics on my wrist are next though.

I have "invictus" on my left inner wrist. Coming from a less than stable family with an emotionally abusive mother left me wondering quite a bit about whether I was really in control of the things that happened in my life. The word comes from the title of a poem by William Ernest Henley and it means "unconquered" in Latin. It needs to be touched up but I love it to death and it reminds me every day that, yes, "I am the captain of my soul." xp /cheese

I have a yin-yang symbol between my shoulderblades I got March of 2010. I'd just gotten through a rough school semester, a bad breakup and a lot of life mess and I needed a little balance and stability in my life. So far it's worked wonders. My second tattoo is a dragon that curves from the top of my right shoulder down almost to my elbow. I got her done about three weeks ago, and I've been meaning to get this tattoo since I was 19, and I'm now 23, so it's about time! I love fantasy, and dragons are the quintessential archetype. She's a silvery-blue colour, and reminds me to be strong and never give up on my dreams. Once I save up moneys I plan on getting more. I absolutely love tattoos. So glad someone started this thread, you guys have some awesome pieces!

I currently have three: First one is an intertwined Celtic heart design that I fell in love with. It doesn't have much meaning except that I thought it looked pretty. I got this in 2006 and it's on my right shoulder blade. The second one is a treble clef-flower hybrid I got in April 2010. I got that because music has always been a huge part of my life and I wanted to have a constant reminder of that. This one is on my left ankle. My third tattoo is a little orange flower with blue leaves. I got this in April 2011 and it's on my right wrist. Just a pretty design that I liked. There are a few more that I want to get. My sister wants us to get matching tattoos on our left wrists, so that spot is reserved for whatever design she decides on. I want to get something writer related - a quote or a quill or something. There's also a rose design that I've fallen in love with, but since it's pretty large I'm a little chicken about getting it.

I have a black and white swirly thing on my lower back. I've had it for 7 years now and I still love it. I know there are some negative connotations in having a tattoo where I have mine, but I still don't regret it and I'm really pleased with how the design came out (I drew it myself). I really want another, a rose in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, but I'm struggling to decide where to put it as I can't have any visible tattoos for my job.

Wow, your tattoos are awesome. And such a load of them! Damn, I'm jealous! I only got a half-assed dragon on my right upper arm. The tattoist stole it from ... the internet. It doesn't look nice enough to photograph. /: To be exact about what it looks like: it's a tribal of a dragon's head and one of it's arms, with the claws streched out. I wonder if it's possible to cover this horrible thing up? At least I don't really hate it. I've seen worse so far. It's just that it's so unoriginal. I'd rather have a bird or something... Well, let's see about that after the bird craze in my home region this year calms down (then again, I always loved birds and I'm still fascinated with them :D)

This is my first and only tattoo. I'd like to get more, but I only got it a few months ago and it took me about ten years to decide this one, so I'm still pondering what to get next. http://sentientonline.net/wp-content/uploads/tat-in-dress.jpg I designed it myself, though I got the wings/general shape from a stock tattoo design on DA and played with them til I was happy. The stuff in the middle of the wings consists of: Chinese symbol meaning 'the way' (which is what the Tao is known as) Star of David Celtic Cross Aum symbol Serpent Alchemical Symbol for the Quintessence Unicursal Hexagram I combined all these different symbols to reflect the idea embodied in the saying 'One song, many voices.'

Uploaded with ImageShack.us That was my first tat, I got it Feb this year. Basically, my tattoos are a form of self expression. They show different sides of me. So my zebra is my totem. it kicks me up the ass when I get a bit low on self esteem etc. Then the one below I got in July. My phoenix shows my fire side, how I'm all about chaos, balance, rebirth, the full cycle really. Uploaded with ImageShack.us I plan on getting 2 or 3 more but I'm not 100% sure what of yet. 1 down my back below the phoenix, I'm thinking 4 phoenix feathers maybe. Perhaps 1 on my stomach and another on my upper thigh. Then that's it, done, no more.

I would love to get a tattoo, but I just don't know what I'd want to get. I was thinking about getting something literary, maybe a quote from one of my favorite books or something, but I dunno. I have three more years ahead of me of being in college and therefore having a dozen tattoo parlors within walking distance, so I have time :)

I have three tattoos (for now... am always half-thinking about more) When I was eighteen and at uni I wandered off to the local tattoo parlour with a design found after hours and hours browsing the free flash on the web. I returned with a small lynx on my left shoulder blade. I've always had an affinity for the feline, and just connected with the image. A week or so later I went back to get a small rose on my right lower back. I've long held the rose as my favourite flower - it's just a classic beauty. Finally, in March of this year (and when I was a worldly 25 years old) I did what I had been longing to do for a long time; I had picked another rose design, but a larger, more complex design, which now covers my left inner forearm. It's large and visible, unlike the first two, but it's probably my favourite (because I can actually see it!!!)

I have two tattoos. My first one is on my back. I think courage is my strenght and that's why I have wolf tattooed on my back. The wolf is still looking behind her back, which means to me not to forget about memories I have. If I forget about the things and people who did me badly, I'm not going to learn any of it. The second one is on my wrist. It's small 5 with a ring around it. This tattoo has particularly meaning about a great friendship. My best friend has the same tattoo on her wrist too. I really love the story behind this tattoo 'cause it describes us to be so similar and near to each other. I really love it. Ü

I only have one and it's kind of small. It's the word "six" a heart with a little swirly thing and then the word "seven." It took forever for me to get because I'm one of those people that will like something one day and dislike it the other so I knew it had to be something I really wanted. My birthday is June 7th so there's the 6/7 and also my son was born in 2006 and then my daughter in 2007 so that really is what tempted me to get it. There's a ton of tattoos that I want/will probably never get because of money reasons but they are: -Lyrics to a song called "Forever my Father" but written in a circle with my dad's initials inside of it. I lost him in 2004 and it took me forever to think of something that would signify him. -The silhouette of a hammer head shark for my cousin that passed away. Like as if you were looking at it from the bottom of the ocean. -On my foot, the quote "People walk in and out of your life but few leave footprints in your heart." -A favorite sentence in one of my novels if I ever get published.

I have one tattoo, and I just got it last May after toying with the idea for several years. Getting something permanent on my body terrified me! But I love it. If I could hug my ankle I would. *nod* Yup. I have on the outside of my left ankle. This is from the ending of The Andalite Chronicles, one of the Animorphs books that shaped my love of reading and desire to write. It's in thought-speak brackets and in the font that was used on the covers of the books. It's kind of hard to verbalize how much that book series has changed my life. Needless to say, it has become the rock around which my literary self revolves. :P Pretty weighty influence for a kid series!

I have three... a fairy one that I got when I was 18... an Edgar Allan Poe inspired one that says 'Nevermore' and has the silhouette of a raven... and a one inspired by Orion's belt. :) I want tons more but they're not exactly cheap (at least the good ones).

Since I am too much of an idiot to work the picture thing out, I will just describe my tattoo's. 1. Angel wings on my right shoulder, black and grey shades. It was my first one and its a memory to those around me who have past away. It took about an hour and a half to make and I fell asleep whilst the artist was doing it. It is probably still my favourite. 2. A pink coloured lotus flower on my other shoulder to symbolise my own struggles. Lotus flower seeds develop in the mud of rivers and ponds and then grow towards the light before turning into something beautiful. It symbolises my life and how far I have come. 4. I have two black and white lily type flowers on my right upper arm. This was a bit of a spur of the moment thing but I love them still. 5. Next to that I have a small coloured butterfly that I had done during my holiday in Vegas 2 years back. My granddad died the day we went and I missed the funeral and everything because there was no way I could come back. I had the tattoo done while I was there but they gave me some lotion to protect it from the deser sun to which I was allergic and I got sunburn on it. From a distance the tattoo looks fine but it is actually scarred and I want it redone. 6/7. I have AMOR VINCIT OMNIA written on my lower back with a red rose above it. It means Love Conquers All and symbolises the relationship between me and my wife. We came from far, had to overcome the distance of two different countries, had a difficult start but still made it when many people around us thought we wouldn't. It also is something I believe in very strongly. As long as there is love, any form of love, anything can be overcome. I want a few more, still in planning stages.

Can't work out the picture thingy (xp) but i can discraibe it: It's all in black and the words say 'Space Time' in Latin (ish, i had to get a Latin grad to get my exact meaning across as the roman's didn't have a word for space as in the pretty stars) Time was easy thought :D and then there is a big symbol in the middle that is Gallifrayan for Dream or Dreamer. So yeah, I'm a geek... :D

I have two...so far. I want more but I'm a teacher and I have to be careful on where I get them. I have to be able to easily cover them up (though in the summer, I tend to forget more often than not...luckily I have a pretty cool boss...) The first one I had planned for a long time before I finally was able to get it right after I turned 18. It is a Hummingbird on my right ankle in remembrance of my Yia-yia (my grandma). My Yia-yia died pretty unexpectedly when I was young and I had always been close to her. One of the strongest memories I have of her is sitting in her garden at our cabin watching the hummingbirds at the feeder she put up. I became fascinated with Hummingbirds and just birds in general and now the tattoo has even more meaning to me, but originally it was all for my yia-yia. The picture was taken right after I got it...I can't believe I don't have a better picture of it... Link! My second tattoo I just got last december. It is of a sparrow and a nautical star. I guess the story for that one is that I have always loved the ocean. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a pirate...until I discovered that real life pirates aren't very nice...lol but even still fantasy pirates continue to have a special spot in my heart (...Sinbad and Captain Jack Sparrow anyone :P ) I think I've always loved pirates and ships because it's all about adventure. I crave adventure! So my tattoo symbolizes that yearning for adventure. Link! I love both my tattoos and am so happy with how they came out. The tattoo artists that I went to were incredible. I have a list of others that I want someday...but life is expensive and tattoos kind of got pushed to the end of the spending list... I love tattoos and all of the other tattoos that have been posted here are so wonderful! p.s. i hope the links work...i had no idea what I was doing!

I have a small music note on my right wrist. It's fairly easy to cover up by wearing long sleeves, but so far my employers haven't really cared about it so I can have it out. I've been planning a few other tattoos. I wanted song lyrics written in the shape of a heart, I've wanted the little pink octopus from Finding Nemo (there's a story behind it), and I've considered getting a bird, but my biggest tattoo plan is a half sleeve for my right arm. I just need to find someone who can draw it out for me as I'm really really horrible at drawing anything at all haha.

I got this one on the top of my left foot about two years ago. Here it is. It's J.R.R. Tolkien's initials all wound together, as they appear on all of his books. I read the Hobbit at the age of 12, followed by the Lord of the Rings when I was a teenager, and just fell head over heels into Middle-earth. I also spent, and still spend, a good deal of time on a big Tolkien fansite/forum, where I'm now an admin. Tolkien's writings have been a huge part of my life for close to 15 years, and I remain convinced that the forum was one of two things that kept me alive through the turbulence of adolescence and especially high school. I got it on my foot because the hobbits and the Shire have always been my favorite part of Middle-earth, and, well, I go barefoot a lot, so it was practical for showing it off. I want another one, but I'm still trying to decide on the design and location. For what it's worth, I had read a lot of horror stories about how much foot tattoos hurt, and I thought it wasn't bad at all, although I don't have any other tattoos for comparison.

I have a rose on my right hip for my grandpa. :) He and I are best friends, and he's always been the most important person in my life. When I was really little he had this big, beautiful rose garden, and when I was five or six he gave me a necklace, a heart with a rose in it, so I've always associated roses with him. The teddy bear he gave me the day I was born is even named Rosie. :) I want to get "Il y a longtemps que je t'aime, jamais je ne t'oublierai" on my ribs, with the music that accompanies it, but I'm a bit nervous, and a pawprint with an upside down heart as the center pad on my ankle. But...well, my boyfriend isn't into tattoos, so I'm really hesitant.

Let's see. I have 12. I doubt I'll get around to posting pics, mainly because I'm lazy, but I'll do my best to decribe them (in chronological order, no less). 1) Left deltoid- My initials. Unoriginal, I know, but I was 18 and it was a design I'd wanted since I was 14 2) Left pectoral- "Marion" My grandmother's name who passed away in 2001. 3) Right shoulder blade- A heart with a J inside. Don't ask. :-p 4) Right deltoid- The kanji for "samurai" with the kanjis for "justice", "loyalty", "truth", "bravery", "courage", "compassion" and "honor" encircling it. The beginning of my kanji phase. 5) Right forearm- The kanjis for "bushido" (the way of the warrior) 6) Right forearm- The kanjis for "sakura" (cherry blossom) 7/8) Triceps- "Since" vertically down the left, "1982" vertically down the right. Borrowed from a picture I saw of a tattoo that read "Est. 1978" 9) Back, between my shoulder blades- An asian dragon and a tiger entwined in combat with the kanjis for "dragon" and "tiger". The end of my kanji phase 10) Left deltoid- Around the very first one of my initials, a cherry blossom branch and a koi fish, for my daughters. The oldest's middle name is Sakura and the youngest's is Marion Koi. Beginnings of a half sleeve. 11) Left bicep- An ambigram that reads "Sugar and Spice". Also for my daughters. Continuation of my half sleeve. 12) Left calf- A block orange "S" and the words "Bleeds" "Orange" arced above and below. The "S" is the logo for Syracuse University athletics, which I've been a fan of since I was 8 and am an alumnus. Just got this one 10 days ago.

Well, you know all this, oazan, but I'll expand for the benefit of everyone else. :P I'm planning on getting a tattoo soon-ish. My ex wasn't a fan of tattoos, so I didn't get one out of respect for him because it wasn't really that important to me that I get one. But, well, now he's my ex, so I'm getting one. xD And oazan drew it! It's here. It's a cross that turns into a treble clef and wraps around itself. Her tattoo artist is touching it up - shading and all that. I also want lyrics from a Relient K song near it - "the end will justify the pain it took to get us there." It's from a song called "Let It Out" that has helped me a lot (and is helping me now). Plus, Relient K has been my favorite band since I was 17 so I'd like to have some sort of little tribute to them.

I have only one tattoo...for now :D I have "Love Thyself" on my shoulder like the part between neck and shoulder. It's pretty self explanatory, but I've dealt with depression for years now (I'm only 19...no longer a teen in December, I swear!) and I've always had a problem with what I look like. I got picked on and bullied A LOT (sometimes I still do, but it's very rare now) and I would look in the mirror sometimes and just look at myself and absolutely HATE what I saw. So really this tattoo is just a reminder when I'm not feeling too good about myself, to LOVE myself and never forget it :)

This is a great topic, I enjoyed reading about everyone's ink and the meaning thereof! So far I only have one, on my left ankle. It's cursive text that reads "no lies, just love". They are lyrics from a Bright Eyes song. To me, these are words to live by. I have been planning my second tattoo for over five years but haven't buckled down and gotten it yet - it's a pretty leaf pattern from a handkerchief that belonged to my grannie before she died.

I just have one. It's the word "Aotearoa" with a little heart, on my foot. Basically the story is- I studied abroad in New Zealand in 2009. "Aotearoa" is the Maori word for New Zealand, meaning "land of the long white cloud." I wanted something to commemorate my time in NZ because I grew a lot as a person there, and felt like I was really living while I was over there. I chose my foot because it was a journey. :) As far as the pain on the feet- I didn't think it was bad at all. I have no others to compare it with, but I was expecting it to be a lot worse. I definitely have the tattoo bug now, and I can't wait to get more. I have lots of plans but nothing I've settled on yet, and I'm poor, so that puts a damper on things.

I'm up to eight tattoos so far. Last one was an owl to celebrate my win last NaNo - I'll get something to match on the other thigh if/when I win this year, but I haven't quite decided what (leaning towards either a peregrine falcon or either a boobook or a barking owl). Also have a sneaky plan afoot as it looks like I've just landed my first (paid!!) writing gig. Once that's finalised and in print I'm hoping to get a sort of writing-themed memento mori designed by a friend and placed over the heart.

It's weird, despite the fact that I see it every day, I always forget I have it, and everyone else forgets too. I have not got a tattoo as such. I got an 'I' and 'C' overlapping each other on my left shoulder. Its a very long story and a stupid reason I got it but my next tattoo which I am getting done for my wedding for something blue is an amazing blue fox. I will get it done just in March or April time. It will be on my right shoulder and mum will kill me.

I have six, but only four pictures. The two not pictured are on my lower back and my ribcage; the lower back one is a pentacle in a full moon, surrounded by two crescent moons on either side. It says "She has slept; She will rise; Thou Art Goddess" in the middle of it. I got that one when I was 16. On my rib cage is some Kanji I got for my mom; it says "Wolf on a quest." We got tattoos for each other at the same time; hers is above her stomach and says "Tiger fighter for justice". I'm linking to two of the tattoos because the pics are rather large. I don't have any tattoos yet, but I'm hoping to change that in the not too distant future. There are three tattoos that I know for a fact I'm going to get. I was originally planning on getting them in a slightly different order (which I'll explain afterwards), but I realized that this was probably the more sensible order. 1) Cuff around my left bicep: Interlocking wave design. I've got this mostly designed, but I need to find an artist to work with who can help me polish it up (this shouldn't be to hard as I'm in the Seattle area, and I have some friends who have awesome tattoo artists). 2) Cuff around my right bicep: Interlocking vines design. Some sort of thorny, non-flowering or with small flowers vine. I have the basic concept for this one, but I haven't worked out the details yet because I need to figure out what plant I want to use. 3) Across my entire chest after I have chest surgery (and it has healed): Knot-work tree of life/ygdrasill with a sword down the middle (on top of the breastbone). I have the concept for this one, but a lot of the details need to be messed with. Originally, I was planning on getting the third one first, as it is the one with the most significance to me (all three of them have religious and personal significance). But I realized that it would probably be better to get the smaller, less insane ones first to get an idea of how much it is going to hurt. It's not going to stop me from getting the chest piece even if it hurts a lot, but I don't think that being surprised at the beginning of the chest one would be the funnest thing ever. There are a few others that I am sort of thinking of getting, which could get bumped ahead of the chest piece depending on surgery and how I feel about them after getting the first two done. 1) Right shoulder blade: Inward facing dragon rampant. (Think shields). I'm not sure on exact styling of the dragon (and whether or not I would want to mix western/eastern influence on it) 2) Left shoulder blade: Inward facing some-sort-of-large-feline rampant. Mirroring the dragon. I'm torn between a few different things on this one, and it is far enough in the future that I've not really put too much serious thought into it yet: lynx, leopard, or jaguar are the three that I'm most likely choosing between. They all have reasons, and most likely it would be between lynx and jaguar. I think that I need to figure out what would be the best balance to the dragon. 3) Center lower back: Personal sigil/seal. I need to rework this, and I need to be in a place where I am stable and it isn't going to change before I put it permanently on my skin. 4) Solar plexus (or a bit below): (Possibly worked into the chest piece). Some sort of crescent moon symbol. Again, I have an idea, but I need to work out the symbological details, and it's a ways in the future. 5) Spine: (Between the paw/claw of the feline and dragon). Another sword. Probably a different type than the one that will be down my breastbone. Not sure on the size/style that I will want this one to be if I decide to get it. With the way that I dress, these will all be easy to hide with clothes, which is pretty important to me, as they aren't really going to be for general viewing. It's not that they are going to be truly private (I wouldn't be talking about them on the internet if they were), they're just not the kind of thing that I would want random strangers asking me about in public places. I haven't gotten a tattoo yet but I have one I've been planning for a long time. Just haven't found the right drawing and person to draw it. Also, after my sister's knee swelled up after one of her tattoos I'm sure I'm probably allergic so not sure if I should get one. What I want though is a Phoenix on one ankle, wings spread wrapping around my ankle with the wingtips touching an ankh. Then on the other I want Ma'at, Egyptian goddess usually depicted with wings and have those wings outstretched and touching an ankh again. The ankh's on the inside of both ankles. Since I'm worried about the possibility of being allergic I may just get an ankh or an infinity on the inside of a wrist. Any of the tattoo places I've seen around here don't seem very sanitary to me. I've been meaning to ask friends where they got theirs but I've just been to busy and forgot. My darn memory!

I have a modified Steal Your Face on my left ankle and "KEEP CALM & CARRY ON" (sans the crown) on the inside of my right wrist. I would put pictures, except that the first is sort of a private design and the second is pretty self explanatory. :) I tend to get mine over the summer, after I finish a school year. So I'm already thinking about what I'm going to get for this summer. :D I was thinking a pentacle, but my place said my design couldn't be as small as I want. (I am skeptical.)

"ibni" is German for Ich bin nich' ich, or I am not myself: I have two more in the works, but I'm waiting for the right times to come around. For me, the day I get a tattoo is just as important as what the subject is. One of my upcoming tattoos is going to be my dad's tags from the Army. I'm getting those around my neck. The second is a pair of nautical stars on my chest.

At the moment I only have one tatt. I've planned many only to end up changing my mind when I got close to a point where I had the time and money to do it. My husband has 8 tatts, and is begging to get another. I shall never catch up with him. My tatt is a very simple one for a big reason. It is the Chinese character/symbol for "music" I went through some hard times in my teens, and music was the one thing that kept me sane. So having it tattooed on my shoulder was a way to remind myself that I made it through it all. I'm proud of myself for going it, seeing as I'm afraid of needles. Helps if your not looking at it. Doesn't help if you watch your then boyfriend, now husband, get one before you. I shouldn't have watched. At the moment I'm thinking of getting one more on the other shoulder then adding some dates below it. Such as my fathers birthday and my daughters birthday. I was going to get one for my daughter and let her pick it out, however, I don't want to have barbie or my little pony on me forever.

I don't have any tattoos right now, but I've been considering one for a while and am actually planning on going in with a friend at the end of the week. It's a Hebrew phrase that translates into "This too shall pass". It's from a story my Rabbi used to tell. It's about a King who sends his servant to find a special ring he heard about that is supposed to make the wearer happy when he's sad, and sad when he's happy. The servant, after a year of searching comes back with a plain band with those words inscribed in it. I want it in honor of my father who passed away when I was in high school as a reminder that bad things will pass and good times will always come again. I think I wanna get it either around where my bra strap goes or on my shoulder. The only reason I haven't really gone for it yet though is because I'm scared of needles. Haha, such a wuss. Took me forever to find the courage to get another ear piercing even! Well, maybe this weekend I'll finally make a decision.

I have three. 1 - Triquetra with lily of the valley flowers that I got on my upper back. This was my first tattoo which I got in memory of my mother. 2 - Stylized treble clef on my inside left ankle. This was my second tattoo and shows my obsession for music. 3 - Newest tattoo, dolphin with flowers. Dolphins are one of my favorite animals and I got the filagree and flowers as a bit of a decorative prettiness to put behind the dolphin. I plan on putting a phoenix on my ribcage sometime, but I'm absolutely terrified of the pain. And I have some other things that I need to save up the money for first. :)

My first tattoo wasn't really significant. I just wanted Quincy from FoxTrot on my right outside calf. Crappy phone photo It's my favorite comic strip and I adore the little guy. I didn't want to get him just sitting and staring, so I had the one panel tattooed where he's chewing on Jason's original Nintendo (!) controller wire. I've emailed this to Bill Amend and he said he was flattered. :D Second one has a little more meaning. It means 'love' written twice around the front of my wrist and is eventually going to be a full bracelet once I figure out more ways to write it. (The alphabets used are the Futurama alien languages, both AA1 and AA2. I wanted something Futurama related that wasn't just a character again so I figured I'd use the codes.) I got this on the first day of my leaving-SI-behind-because-I'm-not-a-teenager life. :P Eventually I'm going to use ....... I don't know, Morse code? Bar code? Something, anyway, on the inside skin to complete it.

I have one tattoo, on my right wrist, of a turtle. It was a reward to myself after I reached 100 collective miles on my bicycle! I chose the turtle because it has always been a totem animal to me; he represents wisdom and determination, two qualities I admire and strive for. I wanted him to have a spiral on his shell because spirals are also a shape I have always connected very strongly with. Here it is!

Anyway I have a tiger cub on my left arm and on my right forearm I have a lion claw with the leo symbol in it with stars coming out of the end. The stars are supposed to represent my writing and whenever I publish one of them then a star will be filled with colour. I have one and I can't figure out the picture thing either. I got it when I turned 18 and to me it represents freedom. They are Amy Brown stylized purple fairy wings that look like they are coming out of my should blades. I really want to get some more tattoos but I have no money! :-( The next one I really want to get is a green dragon protecting a bouquet of roses with scroll work underneath that reads "En Tier". I have...6...so far :) I'll describe in order that I got them done. 1. A rose with the stem twisted into a heart shape. I got it done a couple months before I turned 18 in my friend's apartment who was practicing tattooing. I love roses and how they are so beautiful but also have painful thorns on them, and roses represent love and passion. It's on the back of my right shoulder. 2. This one's a little harder to explain...It's a couple of photo negatives with three images. the images are of a cocoon slowly breaking and in the last image the butterfly is flying out of the piece. Everything is in black and gray besides the butterfly, which is bright oranges and stuff. Framing the piece is the quote that inspired the piece and explains the meaning pretty well: "use the negatives to develop." It wraps around my lower left calf. 3. I got this one for free for my birthday. It's the symbol for psychology with fire around it. Located on the back of my neck. I love psychology and it's my major and what i want as a career. 4. This one's my favorite and most meaningful. It's across my chest in beautiful script lettering: Hope is Not Lost. There is swirly stuff and little stars around it and the artist did a great job. Without going into TOO much personal detail, it is basically a reminder to myself that there is more to live for, and that hope is never lost. For those of you who know Killswitch Engage, that is where the quote came from (my favorite band ever) from the song "Hope is." One of my favorite bar memories is when this guy came up to me, read my tattoo, and said, "you just saved my life." brings me to tears. That's what I hope i do, inspire people as well as myself. :) 5. This tattoo is on the inside of my left wrist. My sister and I got matching Mario Star tattoos. It symbolizes our sisterhood and our childhood playing mario games and being fun and silly together, and always being there for each other. 6. This one is a work in progress. It's on the outside of my right arm, and I got it done by a scratcher (not the one who did my first one, this guy sucked). It's a nautical star with wings. I am planning on getting it redone soon and adding to make a half-sleeve involving flowers and other cool things. Nautical stars are classic for marking large journeys, which is what my life is, ha. The flowers and other cool things will represent people who are close to me and the passage of time and really just celebrating the beauty of life.

My first and only tattoo so far The black ribbon in the middle of the butterfly is for my mother, who passed away in May of this year. It's black because she passed away from melanoma, which has black for it's awareness ribbon color. The butterfly is a symbol in many arts of cultures for change and growth, something I'm going through right now as I live on my own and decide what I want to do with my life. It's tribal in appearance because I've always loved tribal tattoos of cultures, and how the marking means so much to them personally. The purple accents are also for my mother, because purple was her favorite color.

My husband and I have discussed tattoos but we've got to save up a lot of money first! I have two that I want, but I'll probably only get the first one b/c the second one is too big (and the area I want it in is where I tend to lose/gain weight so I don't want it to look weird). DH has a fantastic idea for a tattoo - he wants a phoenix on his forearm with tail feathers that wrap around his thumb. I want a tiny fairy on my left shoulder with the words "I Do Believe in Fairies" around it in a circle. The other one is my personal crest that I drew - a female centaur with wings holding a torch and sword with the motto "Into the Light". (I'd want it on my right hip) I would LOVE to have a Potter tattoo at some point as well...it would probably be "Always" (Snape is my favorite character), or the Hallows, or the HufflePuff Crest...hmmm...I might go sketch something...! I love seeing everybody's pictures and reading the stories! This is great. :)

Wow there are a lot of awesome, meaningful tattoos in this thread! I only have one tattoo, but I'm planning to get more. A lot of people thought I was pretty silly to get such a thing, but Pokemon is my childhood. Even if I grow out of it (which so far I haven't) I'll be able to look at it and remember all the really great times that I had with the video games and tv show. The symbol underneath it is the celtic symbol for "rowan" which is in honor of my godson Rowan, who passed away from SIDS in November of 2007. It also gets confused for a pie symbol, but that's okay too because 314 is my boyfriend's favorite number :) The tattoos I'm hoping to get are an orange octopus somewhere and I'd also like the quote "love as thou wilt" from one of my favorite book series by Jacqueline Carey.

I only have twofor now. I am hoping to get a third sometime in the near future. My first tattoo was Hope on my left wrist. I felt like it was a good message to remind myself of. There is always hope. The second tattoo I have is on the back of my neck. It's a celtic knot. I got it soon after a good friend of mine from High School died. The third I want to get is a recycling symbol on the bottom of my foot. For some reason it seems very appropriate and the idea just won't get out of my head.

Final Fantasy nod. Friend "gave it to me" as a birthday present when I turned 18. Wanted something video game related, that looked neat, but not super recognizable. This won. Pokemon (24) and Zelda (23) additions. After years of contemplating if I wanted another tatto I got the shield then the Pokeball within months of each other....I like the way getting tattooed feels. Beginning of a video game mural (all grayscale) ending with a fully colored rainbow road wrapping around my arm...you know, when I can afford these things ^_^

My first tattoo I got almost a year ago, my son's footprints on the top of my feet. Since he was stillborn I wanted something of him, and his footprints for me means that he is forever walking with me, no matter where we go. My next tattoo, I'm really going back and forth over a couple. I'd really like the joker face from Maximum Overdrive on the back of my calf. Although not really religious I've always loved rosaries and would like to get a set of rosary beads done on my wrist ending in some form of symbol in the palm of my hand (this one I will save for when there are no plot bunnies attacking)

I have two tattoos, the first one I got is on my shoulder, it's a wand shooting sparks. I designed it the year Deathly Hallows came out, in part it's because I love those books; but mostly it represents goals. Some of the sparks have stars at the end, some don't, the ones with stars, represent goals accomplished the ones without stars represent goals needing to be accomplished. It's on my shoulder because I carry my stress there so I should also carry my dreams there. (I don't have this one saved online anywhere, but if I could figure out how to copy it into a post, I will.) My second you can see in my picture to the side. I got just over a year ago, and it should be obvious why in this setting. I have always wanted to be an author, and after my first successful NaNo, I needed something to encourage me to write everyday, not just in November. I LOVE all the tattoos posted so far!

Here you go! And for anyone keeping tabs on the pain-o-meter, the wand, on my shoulder--barely felt. The quill on my wrist--hurt quite a bit. However, I will also add that before the wand I had a drink and right after had another. Wheras for the quill, I didn't have any alcohol before or after...so my advice have a drink before your next tattoo, it will dull some of the pain. :) From October 27, 2011

My first tattoo, that I got back in April, is a Yevonite Glyph from the Game Final Fantasy X and X-2. My best friend got the same Glyph on her wrist, because it means a lot to us and our friendship. It's not how we met or anything, or the turning point in our relationship, it's just really important to the both of us. We're both extremely fascinated by the plot of both games, especially the religion in it, and how characters learn to overcome the prejudices and racism they face. Gippal and Baralai are our favourite characters, and perfectly enough, the Glyph that we chose is prominent on Baralai's robes, and technically in the Yevonite alphabet, it's the letter G. So, win/win. We like to say that it has a lot more meaning behind it though. It shows the strength of friendship, having your own beliefs but being able to question them and not follow them blindly lest you hurt the people you love, and, of course, to live life "one thing at a time."

lions. they make you brave. this was my first tattoo. 4-5 hours on the table, one five minute break (which only made it hurt worse -_-) $310. my artist was great. even when i changed my desired animal from owl to lion at the last minute. i'm thinking of only going to female artists, just because i don't see a lot of them. kat von d dominates reality television, but just going around where i live, i can't find a whole lot. full body i'm ready for my close-up my next one will be rafiki's tree simba on the nape of my neck c:

Hi guys! I'm new to the forums and this topic immediately caught my attention! Some really nice tattoos you guys have! I have three myself. I can only show you guys two, though, because I don't have a picture of the third one yet. It's on my back so I'd need to bother someone to take one first xD Alice in Wonderland tattooo - This one is my first one, on my thigh. I did the drawing myself and I'm really happy with it. It stands for believing in the impossible and living by your own rules (a big part of the Alice in Wonderland story). The text in the mouth (instead of teeth) says "malice in underland" and stands for surviving through hardship. Cupcake tattoo - The second one is on my calf. It says "make cupcakes, not war". The third is a quote from Shakespear, in between my shoulderblades. It says "these violent delights have violent ends". ^ ^

I got my first tattoo when I was 18; it's largely symbolic and personal to me: My second started off as a joke conversation I had with a friend, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of it. I remember asking my mom if she wanted to buy me a tattoo for my birthday, and when I described it she said "That's a stupid idea for a tattoo!" so I paid for it myself, then showed her the picture and she said, "..... ok that's way cool, how much did it cost?" and sent me the money for it :D Shortly after getting the zipper I decided I wanted to get shoelaces to go with it. It's funny, because people always see the laces first and ask why I have shoelaces on my arms, and I say, "Because they match the zipper.." and I guess people think I'm being facetious because very few of them follow up on the zipper. Wow, everyone has such great tattoos :) I've just got the one at the moment, but I have plans for more. It's the tattoo leeloo has in the Fifth Element. link That photo was when it was fresh. It's actually a grey colour and looks much softer than in the photo. Next on my list is some text running along the inside of my upper arm.

I have my family name tattooed on my wrist. To me it means i'm proud of where i come from, that i love my family and it makes me feel connected to my dad :D When i said i was getting this, they all said "but what if you get married?" I'm still keeping my last name no matter what if my hausband wants the same name as me he'll have to change it mine lol! :P

My first tattoo I got when I turned 18. Really just a silly one, my sister has a similar one on her wrist to! kinda sweet really. haha. Ignor my face, two feathers I got done when I was 20. The beads are in colour, the feathers black&grey. The beads are all the colours of different flags as I'm half swedish, quarter italian and a quarter english! §I'm planning my next tattoo to be Odins ravens (anyone else notice a bird theme) heh...

i have a tattoo on the back of my neck of the sigil of the angel of death (don't judge *grin*) which represents passing between realms, getting in touch with the dead and not losing the connection between worlds... as a sort of pagany type, that was important...plus i'm a history writer so *waves hands* and i have underneath that in magna carta script: ap cynan it's the patrynomic of the two welsh princes my book is about, that i've been working on for two years with minimal effect (hence arse in gearness of doing nanowrimo) and i've had facials that hurt more than getting a tattoo! *grin*

I only have one tattoo, but during NaNo will be getting another two (either side of my neck). My first is an Ampersand - a summary of Amanda Palmer's song, Ampersand. It serves as a reminder to live my life the way I want to. My second set, that I have booked in for the 22nd of November, are Huginn & Muninn, Odin's two ravens that fly all over the world and bring him news. Their names are literally "Thought" and "Mind" respectively. A tribute to my faith, my take on the 'devil on one shoulder, angel on the other', and an excuse to have my favourite bird inked forever! I'm excited. If I win this year's NaNo, I have also promised myself a quill-pen tattoo on my forearm by the end of December :D

I have a tattoo of Harley Quinn on my left shoulder blade. It was never supposed to be my only one, but strange thing - tattoos cost money and so does food. One day, on my right shoulder blade, The Joker will be joining her, and on my neck I'll be getting the Japanese character for love because my name means "worthy of love". And that's not all I want, but I'm not done planning. I just want them to be someplace I could easily hide if a job required it.

I suppose this is my first post on here, but what better place to have it then in a thread discussing tattoos, one of my true passions! I've been getting tattooed since my 18th birthday, typically getting an average of one tattoo a month, although I've hit a dry spell these past few months! I'm not really sure how many I have, since they're kind of hard to count. Most of my tattoos started out as one piece but got blended together with others. I have my hands and fingers mostly covered, both of my arms about 80% filled, one leg sleeved lined and a few various ones on my chest and back :) My leg is entirely dedicated to Japanese style art work, although it still needs to be colored. My right arm is all traditional tattoo work, most of which I drew up myself. Lots of anchors, swallows, and pin ups girls :) My left arm is just made up of random things that interest me and is completely self done. All of the tattoos on that arm I did during my first 2 years of tattooing. I have everything from a beta fish on my wrist to Johnny The Homicidal Maniac on my fore arm! It's all tied together with a cluster of roses that start on my hand and continue up my arm. I'm hoping to get my back finished with a full Nightmare piece as well as various other horror movie references thrown in. But, as we all know, tattoos cost money, and you can't tattoo your own back, unfortunately.

Wow everyone's tattoos look pretty good. I don't have the courage to get one because for one I was raised Jewish and for two I'm a baby when it comes to pain. I even cried when I got my ears pierced. x-x I've been researching tattoo designs though because my boyfriend/fiance wants to get a tattoo that represents his love for the Legend of Zelda and something that is more of a Celtic feel. He already has a small triforce and a pheonix on either arm but he wants to get them taken off because they are so small and kind of just there.

I have 6 tattoos. First ones I got were on my wrists for A7X - left- (band that completely changed my thoughts on music, and life in general) and a treble clef - right - heart since I've played violin for the past 7 years and music is a huge part of my life. A7X Heart An "M" on my left ring finger for my girlfriend Meghan whom I will be marrying someday. It's really blurry and the tattoo itself is fading since the artist was shit. I have to go back and get it redone. M Stars and swirls behind my right ear because I love the night sky and this tattoo reminds me of the deep blue sky that you can see when there are no streetlights, an image that has always calmed me. Stars and Swirls A fairy on my left outer calf, because I strongly believe in the Fae and this helps to tie me to my beliefs (I am Wiccan and I am close to the Faerie tradition) Faerie And what I like to call the Skeletines on the back of my left shoulder. I think this one almost speaks for itself....almost...

I've been wanting to get a tattoo for quite some time now but not entirely sure what I want. My parents would also flip if they saw it when I visit home. My girlfriend has a tattoo -- the initials of a friend of ours who died last year on her ribs -- but she has been talking about getting another one, so maybe I'll get mine when she goes again.

I have four tats to date, a triad of celtic symbols on my upper back and the dark mark on my right tit. My story would be that I chose my dark mark tattoo five months before book four was released and as such, no one knew what the hell the dark mark looked like at the time. I am a born slytherin and man does it show. If I compleete the nano challenge this year I plan on rewarding myself with a new set. the same triad as on my upper back but inverted on my lower back.

Yay! Here are the pictures of my unfinished back piece but I'll describe the other tattoos on my wrists. Left wrist: Enochian sigil for the Archangel Gabriel wrapping around the back of my wrist, and my first initial on my inner wrist with a key Right wrist: Enochian sigil for the Archangel Michael wrapping around the back of my wrist, and my lastname initial on my inner wrist with a lock. 5 pointed star on my neck: When I was a young teen I promised a friend of mine that I'd get the mark he designed for his novel when I was old enough, I finally did, and he has the mark on his forearms much larger. As a young teenager (12 - 13) I had reoccuring images, day dreams and night dreams, of being bound infront of all the angels of heaven and my wings ripped off due to some unknown sin before being cast from Heaven. The images stuck with me so strongly that they, along with my sense of the decaying world, I feel like I am alien to the world. I can NOT WAIT TO HAVE THEM FINISHED!! My tattoo artist (who has done all of my tats) said he'd give me a discount when I told him I wanted to try and do it in one session to see if I can handle that many hours being under the needle.

I have three. A set of three pawprints, one for each person i've lost that i've been close to. Its on the right side of my lower back and in black. A dragonfly inside of a heart for the major changing and self discovering i've done since highscool. Its on my hip, right on the bone. Ow. Its also in black And one Swedish coy fish. Its the candy, but in the form of a pretty coy and my best friend has one just like it. We like Swedish fish. A lot. Its on the left side of my lower back. It is predominantly red with black letters that say Swedish across the scales, and black outline, of course.

I only one tattoo at the moment. 3 1/2 years ago I was going through a really tough time. I am part of a group called the International Wenches Guild (wench.org). I turned to them for support and they told me "You are a wench. You are strong. You will get through this." That saying has stuck with with me all of these years and has helped me through many tough times. I got this tattoo as a reminder of that saying and that I can in fact get through anything. I don't have any tats, but my friend (who is also a big crush of mine) has some serious ink and it has a cool story behind it. He says that when his cousin was training to become a cop, the cousin said that if my friend let him pepper spray him in the face, he'd pay for my friend's first tattoo. My friend agreed, got pepper sprayed, and picked the biggest design he could think of. It's this really cool Native American-style artwork that goes over the back of his shoulder, his arm, and one side of his chest. :)

I have, technically 9 tats myself! Don't know how to add pics here though lol I have one on my inner left wrist of a basic outline heart (being modified someday though), one on the inside of my left forearm of a blue winged dragonfly, one on my upper left arm of a simple pentacle (being modified and added to hugely soon though). Next is on my inner right forearm of the word LOVE that is all black shaded and looking like it's crumbling (being added to someday), one on my upper right arm of the Suicide Girls logo (with black light stars around it). Next is on my inner right ankle of the rune symbol for Love and then my inner left ankle is a four leaf clover with a celtic type design on it (someday being made into an ankle of sorts with other things included), and then there are, technically, two on the back of my neck: running up it are three Xs surrounded by pink (being modified and integrated into the separate one below it), and the one below it is a cancer sign with some pink and purple flames rising off it which I did NOT ask for, so being modified and integrated into the Xs above it.

i've got an "&" symbol on my left wrist, but in times new roman, because i wanted the serifs. i got it because i love typology, and words and writing and book and because it's like infinity and shows that things (or whatever) go on and on and on. i really love how much you can interpret into the "&" symbol!

It was the first tattoo I wanted when I was fifteen (reason: unknown at this point). Wanted to be a novelist, write all kinds of stories, used to be so imaginative. Read every chance I could. Got to college, life threw some shit at me, stopped reading for fun (only for school), was pretty much only Nanoing when it came to writing (but not being serious about my passion). Then when I was 20, someone asked me what sorts of authors I liked to read, and I drew a blank. I used to read all day, everyday on summer vacations in middle school and high school, drawing a blank on my writing heros. I was so ashamed and appalled by my behavior, and I recalled this tattoo I once wanted but couldn't remember. I still love the band (I always will, I know that for certain), so the symbol just became more symbolic that I'm gonna be a damn writer for a living and there's no two ways about it. Don't let life, bills, partners get in the way of your real passion. Do what you wanna do it and enjoy every minute of it. So far, I've made it work for me and it's only gonna get better from here. So that's why I have an ampersand.

They each hold meaning to me, even if they meaning is from something minute when I was young. If I think it's a stupid tattoo one day, I'll just remember that I was a stupid 18/19/etc. year old when I got it! :D

How big is the tattoo? Cover ups are always possible, but the thing people don't realize is that the cover up has to be really big to go over the original tattoo. I've seen people cover up something small with this HUGE art piece, and they like it, but it was bigger than they intended. You can always consult with an artist, see if they can suggest anything. Oh, and I wouldn't go back to that artist. Sounds like he kind of rushed everything. :/

Haha if you do get a tattoo, having that many parlours in walking distance might suddenly become a dangerous thing! My artist and the shop he works in was literally a 3 minute walk from my school. Luckily (I guess) for me, though, he only worked on the weekends, so slightly less random, spur of the moment tattoos. Because I really am that spontaneous with mine.

All but 2 of my tattoos are on my arms, so I think I had the same thinking of wanting to be able to see them. My very first one is on my lower back, and as much as I absolutely love it (and after 6 years, my artist still really loves how it turned out), I could never see it. So when I got my second tattoo, I decided on my right forearm.

How much does the wrist hurt? I've always been curious, as it's one of the few places I'll never get a tattoo (wrist, neck, chest) because I want to be able to easily hide my tattoos if a job calls for it.

My wrist one hurt like a bitch. I also have one on my ankle, but that one felt like a cat scratch (or lots of cat scratches) but the one on my wrist had me cursing and gritting my teeth. Still, I think someone with a higher pain tolerance than me would be less bothered? I have a friend whose theory is that the closer to your head the tattoo is the more it hurts because it's harder to dissociate yourself from the pain. Did the one at the top of your spine hurt more than the one at your lower back?

Thank you! I'm quite happy with them! I was a little worried about the foot one hurting pretty bad at first but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I suppose it helped that the guy who did it was chatty and we talked and joked around the whole time which definitely helped keep my mind off of it! and ribs? that sounds painful! I think the next one for me is going to be on my upper back up near my neck...i think. at the moment i'm playing around with an anchor.

I've heard awful stories about ribs, even from my artist. It's the only spot he actually considered stopping when he was getting his done. So... little hesitant. And he's the kind of guy that's really good friends with me, so we pick on each other a lot. So if I complain that it hurts, he'll make fun of me (in a fun way) and... I have to man up...

haha that's always helpful! I think it's so great when you have that kind of relationship with your artist...it adds to the trust and makes the experience all that more great. I remember when I got my first one I kind of felt like crying (not an overly painful spot, the ankle, but i've always had a low pain tolerance) but i knew the artist and i knew that he would pick on me so i refused to even tear up in front of him! When are you thinking of getting the one on your ribs? if you end up getting it done sometime in the near future, i'd love to hear about the experience...if it was as painful as you were expecting!

Haha talk with friends, consult with an artist, etc etc until you find someone with the talent and the patience. Don't rush into it, find someone that knows it perfectly. And then you will love it forever.

I've known him since tattoo 1, so about 6 years now. It was a relationship that started with me terrified and pretty quiet to non-stop bickering the whole time. Love it. I'm still drawing it, and just barely gotten it planned out. I just finished the drawing today, actually, and I love it. I need to get it to my artist to pretty it up and quote me a price. I intend before the end of November, but we'll see.

That was my first ever tattoo. I want to have the same writing style in a shadowed red reading "HATE" in behind it as the meaning behind it has sort of faded to some extent (long time relationship completely shattered basically prompted it...but it still means something to me)

This is just me, but I'm the type of person that if someone loves you, they love you for everything you are and like. If I get a tattoo, my boyfriend rolls his eyes at "another" one, but he comments on them, likes them, and all that. He doesn't care much for tattoos, really, he only has one and that's after nearly 5 years of watching me get them, and he isn't interested in another. I love getting tattoos, and he knows that. Your tat sounds neat. I like the story behind it. (:

The thing is I've wanted the rose since I was veryyy little (my grandpa also has a tattoo of a rose, on his right forearm), but the others are more recent likes, so I'm much more tentative about them. And my boyfriend is very conservative. He'll certainly never have a tattoo. Either way, since I'm not dead set on them, it's much easier to set the ideas aside. If I were very much set on them, I'd get them whatever his opinion on it was.

That's great to have a relationship like that with your artist! My tattoos were done by two different artists. The first one was a friend and I thought that he was the one I would go to for all of my tattoos but then I ended up getting the second while on vacation. I ended up really liking the artist I went to while on vacation... so now, i feel loyal to two different artists... I'm thinking of getting another one in nov. too but...we'll see how much it ends up being...

I think one of the things I like best about Written on His Hands is the capital T, which would be the first letter in the lyrics. It's just neat. When I'll get home I'll have to download the fonts and type out the lyrics, see which one I like best. I really do think I like Written on His Hands best, though. "Let it Out" has helped me through so much stuff it's ridiculous. I'm glad I picked those lyrics, because I know they'll be helpful in the future, too. Relient K really does have a lot of great lines. The other line I'd really like to get is "who I am will take the second chance You gave me." But we'll see. I don't know how much this first one is going to hurt. :P

It's a great song. I've actually thought about that second line for a tattoo as well..i just love the line and the meaning behind it! My problem is that while i love Relient K and would love to get a lyric of theirs as a tattoo...a lot of my favorite Relient K lines, i would never actually get as a tattoo... haha! But they do have some pretty great lines and maybe eventually i'll actually narrow it down enough to get one!

Yar, not sure why it posted before I was finished. Anyway...... I only have a few, and one is unfinished, but I love them. I am also a teacher, in a society that has mostly negative feelings towards tattoos, so I also have to be very careful to cover them when at work or work-related social events. First one is a 6cm gothic cross with a rose in the middle. My mother actually helped me pick that one out. It is on the underside of my right forearm. Next came a large, I suppose tribal looking piece running under my left wrist, ending about 3/4ths of the way to my inner elbow. I really like this one, but it has since been scar-damaged by an accident late last year. In 2005 or so I got my third, and unfinished, tattoo. They are, so far, outlines of large angel wings spreading across my back, shoulder to shoulder. At the time, I really wanted to get the outlines done while I had the chance, and I am glad I did, since I ended up having several large expenses come up soon afterwards, but I reallywould love to get them added to and filled in with more detail soon. My last tat for now, and the only color one, is a beautiful, colorful pink Sakura blossom on the top of my right wrist. My skin is very pale, so the colors are vibrant and hopefully will stay this way for many, many years to come. I would love to get more of them going up that arm some day. I don't have pics of them right now (writing on my iPad at work), but I will try to add them in the comments later at home.

I really like the idea of what you want, but I agree that you should find someone who is really artistic to help you draw it. Since it seems you like travel, I would look up some quotes about travel? I'm not a traveller myself, so I wouldn't know any. A song that involves distances, maybe?

Ribs hurt. A lot. Mind you. I have a low tolerance for pain. But generally speaking anything on bone or hard muscle instead of fleshy parts are going to hurt more. The wrist and inner arm didn't hurt at all, the neck pinched a little bit. The lower back = ow. I cried through the ribs. The calf was excruciating, though I'm not sure if it would hurt less on the back (it's on the side of my calf, which is very muscular -- the back of my calf has more flab). Of course, it was 6 years between tattoos number 5 and 6, so I think the reason it hurt so much was because I wasn't used to it/didn't remember what the pain was like. Thank you, re: Oma's tattoo. I'm very happy with it, though I learned the hard way that I'm allergic to red ink (my neck tattoo is also in red ink, but I thought the itching was just because my neck was irritated by clothing). The itching on my calf is pretty much gone these days, but for a while it wouldn't stop. Occasionally it'll itch again. I try to ignore it. I plan on getting more literary or wordy tattoos in the future. When my bank account mysteriously swells to bursting. ;) My next tattoo planned I'm getting with my best friend. We're each getting a die, number 3, behind our ears (my left, her right). Because sometimes you have to roll a hard six. (Our friendship was forged over Battlestar Galactica.)

There's a place in the U District that I keep getting recommended to me by friends (I can never remember what it is called, but it's the one with the tree of life as the sign, which just seems appropriate somehow). I'm seriously leaning towards going there because it just feels right at this point, but it's going to be a bit until I can afford a tattoo. So for now I'm waiting to figure out where I'm going to go. More information is always good though. That sucks that you can't find something clean. Try asking the artists or the people at the counter their procedures; my artist had to go through it 100% the first time he tattooed me, my friend, and my sister. He changes his gloves often, each needle is in a package so never re-used, there is plastic around the gun itself that is changed after every tattoo session, the table with the ink cups is covered in plastic wrap that is balled up, ink cups and all, after each session and tossed. The table itself is cleaned down with alcohol afterwards. It's a very sterile tattoo environment, but Seattle is very strict on the regulations. I hope you find something good, but if your sister swelled up, it could just be because she is allergic to the ink. Not all ink is the same; if it's available, try vegan ink? Bring up the concern of being allergic with your artist prior to starting, see if they have any ideas. I'm very persistant about people going to a sterile tattoo shop. Too many horror stories from people's houses or from "hole in the wall" tattoo shops. Be careful and check the place out before setting up a consultation.

Honestly, I wasn't too bothered by the one at the top of my spine or my lower back. I guess the one on the top of my spine hurt more, but so far the spot that takes the cake is the inner bicep, close to the armpit. Cringed the entire time... luckily, they're both done now, so on to other spots! Next up: ribs. :/ Not excited about that pain.

Haha I tend to get a new tattoo every few months. My most recent one I got at the end of August, and I'm already gearing up for #11 here in the next month or so (I hope). And they might have a point. If an artist is leary about the size of something, I tend to trust them. If it's too small, it might look great for a little while, but the tight corners will begin to bleed together and it'll stop looking so crisp and clean. I bet you have a high enough pain tolerance that getting one on your wrist wouldn't hurt significantly more than any of the others. I say go for it if you find something you want there. I'm trying to decide if I want something at the top of my spine or bottom of my back or somewhere on my back in general. Not sure yet. I can't tell if it's going to hurt more than the wrist!

Actually, my place seems to cycle through artists, so the guy who did my first wasn't there anymore by the time I got my second. I don't really have enough experience of tattoo places to know if this is normal or not! But the place is clean and the people are friendly and it's well loved and highly rated in my town, so I like it there. Anyway, I'm not sure if the artist who wouldn't do the pentacle (and actually, it's a celtic knot pentacle, so it had lots of thin lines and places where it would matter to be able to tell which line goes on top and which goes on bottom) is even there any more. I should go in with the design at some point and see what they can do with it, because I really love it. Who knows, maybe they will change it enough to make it awesome and beautiful and better!

I've only been to one shop, so I don't know if that's normal either. The majority of the artists have stayed the same, but some have transferred to other shops or stopped tattooing or whatever. Mine has been there for 10 years now, and doesn't have plans to leave. We've already discussed that if he moves away, he's taking me with him lol

I really like the font on the German tattoo! I'm asking this to everyone: how much does it hurt on your ribs? That's my next tattoo spot, and I'm panicking already because it's apparently a really painful spot. I have a higher tolerance for pain, so I don't think I'll bawl or pass out, but I'm still freaking out.

Thanks! Took me forever to pick it out. lol That's all I heard every time I mentioned where I was getting that one. Oh, it's going to hurt, you're going to regret that, you do know how painful that'll be, right? Well, it barely hurt, to be perfectly honest. It actually tickled A LOT. The only pain I really felt was near the bottom and the slight stinging when the artist wiped over it. Other than that, not a problem. What bothered me the most, actually, was holding my arm up for an hour. Even laying down, having your arm over your head is uncomfortable. I have a high tolerance for pain, too, so I think you'd be okay. Unless you're super skinny, I guess. I mean, you can see I have a little cushion. ;) I say, if it's something you want, the pain won't be an issue.

I like large aquatic mammals! The font is the font the books were printed in, adobe garamond. I considered adding the hallows to my forearm tat, but I was afraid of blow out if I got it in the crook, and I didn't like how it'd look layout wise sitting below it. thanks guys, potter is pretty awsm!

Ha, I'm starting to get pretty serious about it. When I went today with a friend (she was getting a piercing) all of their tattoo artists were out for various reasons, so there was no one to talk too. Of course I'd choose the one day that no one's there.

I'm not sure if I'd have the room for it, unfortunately. It would be what, 32 digits for 4 letters? The smaller they'd do it the more likely it would be to blur, so yeah. Man, and I like that one the most actually... :/

Most tree of life tattoos I've seen are up one side of the ribs, the back, or a leg. I'm getting a smaller version tree on my ribs in the next couple of weeks. And I like the tattoos you have, they sound really neat. A tattoo on the bottom of your foot? Ow. I'll also warn that tattoos on the bottom of your feet, the palm of your hand/fingertips, and the elbow will fade the fastest.

I wasn't sure I could do a tree of life anywhere that didn't have a lot of space. When I get old and all wrinkly it will look like this weird blob if it is too small. A friend of our family had a teddy bear on her leg which now looks more like a cactus or something that is by no means a teddy bear. I also had a teacher that had a lizard on the bottom of her foot. I think it would hurt like hell but the one on my neck was by far the most painful I've ever experienced.

I love rib tattoos! Hopefully it won't hurt as bad as the anticipation...? What's your take on white tattoos? I've been reading up on them (I have very fair skin and I like the look of a 'scar' as opposed to dark ink on my skin), and they don't seem to last as long/require more upkeep than regular tattoos. That being said...my number of tattoos that I want is increasing...! Gotta start saving up some serious cash.

If you can handle the pain, getting addicted is easy. I figured I'd want a couple, at most, because growing up I was "the wuss" in my family. But, I've gotten more than any of my siblings, I've never cried or anything, and I love them. Tattoos are fantastic to me.

I don't know anyone that has gotten a white ink tattoo, but I think they look neat. The lighter the ink, though, the faster it is going to fade. Not for everyone, some people's skin takes to light ink really well, but that's the general consensus. I just recently started seeing pictures of white ink ones, and I like them.

A group of my friends got white triforce tattoos; they are very light and if you look hard you can see them (or if you know they're there). I've heard them say they need to get a touch up once or twice, but I don't think they ever did.

Oh - and for more than being in love with Star Trek in general and TOS in particular; that's my tattoo for my dad who raised me to be a dork and never care what people think about me or worry about what other people do (in a quote: "Worry 'bout ol' Brit.") Plus we used to watch TOS at 11:35 when I would sneak into the living room because I couldn't sleep. Science because, *I* was always more of a Spock than a Kirk. I can't wait to see the :3 on his face. I am still thinking of one for my mom...she's so quite and...mom-like, lol.

Drinking before getting a tattoo is frowned upon (and most places won't let you do that at all), so I tend not to. My artist will refuse to if I've had some. It thins the blood... but I'm not planning on getting a wrist tattoo, so it's okay!

Not to mention, your last name will always be yours. If you get divorced, it gets changed back (if you were to change it, that is). Last names and kid's names are about the only "name" tattoos I ever approve of. Possibly memorial tattoos, as well.

I love that site, it's where I found Gabriel's sigil. Azrael's sigil is also in The Book of Angels which is a beautifully illustrated book on the five archangels and angelic lore and mythos. I plan on have Azrael's name in hebrew down the lower half of my spine as I've always felt a connection to her (I see Death as a woman). Great choice. :)

Getting them on your torso and sometimes ankle [depending on if you regularly wear pants, like scrubs or something] I've found have been the best places for hiding. My father still doesn't know of mine...ha. Not that I have to go through any effort to hide it much. I really want this on my wrist, but I'm restraining myself. Being a veterinarian and having its symbol on my wrist may rub some customers the wrong way, seeing as I won't be wearing long sleeves, and you can see through latex...

I won't go any further down, I think. I've started to become convinced I want a wrist tattoo, but we'll see how that goes. Ribs next, back, legs... I have plenty of spaces to fill. If they're small and he still wants a tattoo in that spot, I would actually recommend he look at getting them covered up. Removal isn't cheap, and hurts a hell of a lot more than the tattoo itself. Getting a tattoo... kind of feels like a cat scratch or rug burn, if you put it in an easier spot. Some places are much more tender than others, for sure. Inner bicep drove me crazy, but outer barely felt like anything.

I don't know how easy they will be to cover up his tattoos are weird and the skin is raised where he got them I'm worried even if he does cover them the outline will still be there on the skin... which would bug me because one of them has a name *cough* I'm sure it would bug him too...

The only tattoo I have that I forget about sometimes is the "Veritas" on the back of my neck... I like that you have the real, Russian quote. I would love to speak Russian one day; I love the language.

Don't think you've posted here... I think I would have remembered all the Norse tattoos! I... would like to say that they're cool, but I have about 0 knowledge of Norse mythology. Sleipinir sounds pretty neat, though. I think I have heard of it before.

I really like the back piece! I'm working on my back/ribs, and I'm trying to create the pieces I want. I like the story behind your wings, too. All too often, i see angel/demon wings, and while they're cool, it's kind of a common tattoo (like barbed wire or tribal symbols). I like when there are actual stories. It's a neat story, and it all turned out so well.
