Who else blogs through Nano? Every year I like to create a new one in October and use it through nanowrimo. Maybe I'm crazy but I warm up with a quick prompt before I jump into my 2,000 word daily minimum. I'm really trying to blog as much as I can during NaNo. I'm at: jddodds.blogspot.com. I started my blog last October (jessicamjonas.com). I skipped NaNo last year because I was working 50 hours a week and doing grad school. Now I'm working 52 hours a week, doing grad school, and planning a wedding, and I'm back. So much for trying to pace myself, I guess. I doubt I'll win, but what I'm really hoping for is to get some work done for my MFA thesis. I'll be cranking out somewhere around 20 short stories instead of a single novel, but the thing is no matter what my word count is, I'll be writing, which is what matters! And to get back on topic, yes, I plan to continue blogging as well, although perhaps on a more lax schedule.

I use tumblr for my NaNo blog but do the same thing. I have a blogger for something separate but like using tumblr for NaNo cuz I have it connected to my facebook to post whenever I post something new. http://nano50k.tumblr.com/ Last year I knew my novel title so had a better link LOL Only part that's annoying is having to make a new e-mail addy to have a separate account, so if I ever finish this year's I might just reuse with a new layout this time.

Right, I'm going to seem really stupid here. I know all about what a blog is, obviously. I like reading other people's blogs. I want to blog, like really want to blog. But I haven't a clue how to start. What should I write about? My life? That wouldn't be very exciting... especially as all the most interesting bits in it currently are strictly confidential, and I can't post them online. My writing? That progresses very slowly. I feel like people wouldn't be very interested in hearing 'woo, I wrote a whole two pages today!' Nano? Again... what would I post other than my wordcount for the day? Book reviews seem to be popular, but to be honest, I've never been that great at writing book reviews. Plus, I don't read enough any more, which is awful and I don't know how it happened, but it did, somewhere in the middle of my degree. I know that to all you veteran bloggers, the answers to these questions are going to seem really obvious. I've been thinking about this for a while, and then I saw this thread, and I wondered... maybe some nice people who are good at blogs can give me some tips... So... Help for a novice, anyone?

It's cliche, of course, but write about what you are passionate about! You can write about your life, yes. Even if you think it's not very exciting... well, there are many others out there with lives that are not very exciting wanting to connect with people with not very exciting lives.... lol! I mean, there are mom blogs, travel blogs, food blogs, clothes blogs, pet blogs, school blogs, work blogs, music blogs, writing blogs, reading blogs (they don't have to be actual REVIEWS. Personally, I "review" only books that I like a lot. So they're not so much reviews as "Hey-I-liked-this-book.-What-do-you-think?" posts.) Isn't there anything that you just want to talk about? Maybe something that you try to talk about offline but you just can't get everything out face-to-face? Isn't there something that just gets you excited when you start going on and on and on . . . and but you stop yourself from talking about it because you think people don't want to hear you going on and on and on. . . NaNo is a good start. I think November is a pain for all those non-Nanos who have to listen to us go on about it!

I think that's a super great response. I used to have a blog that was literally like a diary. I find it easier to type than write, so I would pour my soul and complain about the other girls at my school on there. I had it on a tremendous lock down so that the information never leaked out of it, but that was a nice thing to have When I was cooking school I had a food blog about the 99c Chef - I wrote recipes that involved only food I bought at my local dollar store and farmers market. That got some response, but I don't know what happened to it, I just kind of forgot about it. A nano blog is a nice way to ease into writing so hardcore for the next month. I have short stories and 15-minute prompts and stuff on mine, then every day in november I do some kind of quick writing exercise on my blog before I start my novel. it's a good way to get the muse flowing

I have a personal blog as well as my book blog. I've been personal blogging/online journalling for actually eight or nine years now (that long?! yikes!). When it comes to that, it's helpful to think of the blog as being sort of a way of updating people on what you're up to, but less annoying than a mass email or something like that. I started the book blog about a year and a half ago, after finally getting an idea for a blog that wasn't just me rambling about my life, or just writing about whatever book I happened to be reading. I was unemployed at the time, and had wanted to start a blog, but, like you, I wasn't sure what to write about. And then I decided to read all of the Modern Library's Top 100 novels and write reviews of them. And then I got a job, and I don't have a lot of time for blogging anymore, but I still try to post at least a few times a month. I don't really have many readers or anything, but I like to pretend that I do, or hope that I'll get better and attract more. But really I'm doing it for myself, to keep up with a project that I started and that I'm interested in finishing. So basically no one can really tell you what to blog about, because in order to keep at it, it needs to be something that you care about.

I'm keeping a blog going too (http://wordsmithk.tumblr.com/). I use it for my normal writings, but during NaNoWriMo I intend to share every word that I write for my piece. I'm curious if this is a wise decision, though. On the one hand, having a deadline everyday for anyone reading my blog serves as a motivation, but on the other hand what I would be putting up will be rather coarse, rough, and downright weak quality.

Some interesting blogs out there. I'm only registered at WordPress, but I can add the others on my RSS feed. I'm still relatively new to the whole blogging thing. Opened one a year ago, but didn't really do anything with it until this summer. After reading this thread, I split some of the topics off into spin-off blogs. My writing/art blog is Sakurairo Memori but I haven't posted any actual work to it, mostly out of shyness. I think NaNo is a good excuse to do so! My nerd blog - for anime/gaming/comics/some books/movies - and any fan works - is Mahou Josei and the Adaptation to a Nerdy Life and my "everything else" (gardening, recipes, current events, etc) blog is Mahou Josei in the Real World

The only down side I could see is that if you are hoping to publish your novel, many publishers won't accept work that has already been on the internet. But if your just writing for fun, I think it's a neat idea, instant feedback and possibly even help with direction if you get stuck...

So this is great :) I'm not sure if I'm going to start a nano blog for november or if I'm just going to continue with my current blog :/ It doesn't really focus on my writing but all things that is my life. My blog is actually under my pen name and is for all my writing, personal updates, and so on. Basically it's my little patch of internet dirt. I occasionally post book and movie reviews, writing tips, and all that. And I plan on writing daily updates during NaNo to keep myself motivated. We'll see how it goes.

I thought about blogging my nano experience this month, but figured that would be too much work, as I can barely force myself to post 1 blog post a month as is, and I also already have 3 books I need to read and review this month. I might post something about Nano at the end of the month to detail my experience as a first-year nano participant. I have two blogs actually. One is for book reviews, which was mainly established so I could receive review copies of books for free (cheap college student that I am). Mine is hadans.blogspot.com It started out as a 'what we do all day' kinda blog because my mom asked me to make one to see pics of my kids, but now I mainly talk about books and k-pop. :D
