Nope, I'm working on a series of books with someone. I'm writing book 1 this year, she's doing book 2 this year. Next year I'll do book 3.

The book I just wrote is meant to be part of a series as well.

No, I seem to be planning for next month right now, not next year. Now that I have finally forced myself into the habit of writing every day, I want to keep at it. I have a series of lower middle grade books in mind, with book 1 almost fully plotted. I do have some thoughts on what I could do next year, but I might just get around to them before that.

I'm making some notes for my next novel, but I doubt I'll wait until nano 2012 to write it. I'm also planning the editing of this novel, once I finish it. And I agree with spoons, I want to keep at the writing every day habit now that I'm in it. It seems to have all sorts of good side effects in many areas of my life, not all of them writing-related.

I'm always planning future novels. Whether any of them will be next year's NaNo will depend on where I'm at.

This year's NaNo was all about getting the last 50K+ finished of last year's NaNo. Once the early edits/rewrites are done on it, my next project is to rewrite books 4 & 5 of the series (this year's was book 3). Book 4 in particular needs a heavy rewrite (some 80,000 words).

I have three idea potentials for the next "book from scratch", which will be book 8. It'll either be a direct continuation of book 6 (least likely), a continuation of book 7 (probable), or a story set 20 years in the future which is a different continuation of book 7 (most likely at the moment).

Whether any of these will coincide with NaNo 2012 remains to be seen.

I am, but not for happy reasons. I was diagnosed with cancer in October and it's (understandably) taking over my life. But I'm also finding that people are really ignorant about it and I want to write about it to raise awareness. Colon cancer is typically found in people over 50, but then there are *lucky* 30 year olds like me who end up with it. It's also the #2 cancer killer in the states. It needs more awareness because it's the easiest one to cure if you catch it early. I knew I was at an increased risk for it and I STILL didn't get screened when I should have. Now I'm fighting for my life when I could have had a much easier time of it if I had been screened more regularly.

Also, because of extra circumstances, I needed an illeostomy and NO ONE knows anything about those. Gotta do something to take away the stigma, cause while it sucks, it's really not the end of the world, and I would have no chance of survival without it.

It'll still be a novel with a plot outside of just cancer though-- that's just going to be the MC's back story (or current story, more like).

All the research I'm doing now in choosing which way I go for treatment will help with the writing. They say "write what you know" and unfortunately, this is what I know now. Now it'll just be a matter of seeing if I have the skill to turn that sort of subject matter into something people will actually want to read. Cause if I can't, there's no point.

Have you considered starting a blog while you're writing and fighting cancer? It would help people right away and build awareness for your book as well. You might also connect with others going through the same thing. And create a record for those close to you. Just a thought (which you may have already considered).

I've been writing on my live journal, but it's friends locked right now because of someone annoying who has me friended. I'll probably go back and edit some of the info and make a specific blog with some of the more personal thoughts taken out. I have to get just a little bit of distance before I put it all out there. (yet, it's safer here cause no one knows me).

My husband framed out a novel for me to write next year as I updated him on this story. So maybe so.

I am pretty much giving up on planning. I have a novel all planned out this year and it lasted about 300 words and I ended up going with a whim. I am a panster, end of story. = )

Yes! About halfway through the month I realized next year's challenge. I'm writing two books. Two absolutely opposite books.

1. Fluffy Christmas story.

2. Probably the third book in my pirate series (did book one for this year's nano). Not sure about that, but for now, that's the plan.

I intended for this book to be the beginning of a trilogy, but I think next year I'm going to do literary fiction about psychic wrestlers. Yup.

I am planning to actually go backwards. I'm working on the final revision of my 2009 nanowrimo. When I finish this nano, I'm going back. This nano is the sequel to 2009's nano. So it's all tied together, writing one informs the other. But I really have to finish that last one.

That's like my situation. It took me until book 6 to understand what I needed the first three books to do. This resulted in a heavy rewrite of book 1 and then book 2 needed to be 99% thrown in the trash. The changes necessitated two new books between 1 and 4. The 4th one, which was always a bit light anyway, now needs to up its game to get from the new book 3 to book 5 (and that's only if book 5 stays the way it is - it might get incorporated into the new book 4 which will then leave me with a big gap).

Sometimes I feel like I'll never finish any of them. :D

I'm with you JSR. My sequel habit means I do a lot of writing around, figuring things out, refining, getting to know my characters and my worlds. That's why I don't think nanowrimo is really about one month. Writing a novel takes years, but nano helps me get all the ideas out so I can work on my books the rest of the decade. lol.

I can definitely relate to that. I've been using this year's NaNo to kick me into finishing last year's NaNo - mainly because this story only had a few points to hit and the rest was a blank slate, so it kind of meanders a bit. I don't mind the meandering anymore because I know this isn't going to be anything near the finished article. I very much see my novels as "first draft".

I'm of the mind now that the first six books are the first "phase" of the series (book 7's a spin-off which takes place between the 1st and 2nd phases). My intention is to get this first "phase" as near to finished as I can be before getting too distracted by the next phase. That's my way of saying "yes, anything can be changed as the story develops but, once I enter the second phase, the first phase will not be changed - all later stories will just have to fit". :D

I've no idea if I'll stick to that rule...

As tempting as that is, I plan to continue with this one for awhile. While my biggest obstacle has been making myself write in the first place, the second, only slightly less known, is never go up against a Sicilian--- no wait, that's not it. The second is that I don't like rewriting and editing. So not only am I going to finish a novel for the first time in ten years, I'm going to rewrite one for the first time ever! I suspect that will take me several more months. THEN I'll start planning for next year. This has been my first time, but I've enjoyed it so much there's just GOT to be a next year!

Yes. A prequel. Can't wait!

So far all I know is, that I want to be back next year. With what, I don't know. I always have too many ideas anyway, so I tackle that once next November is here.

Oh, I have an idea already kicking around, but I admit if I do it, I'll have to classify as a rebel since it's nonfiction, haha!

In a word (well, 2 words): HELL NO.

I think I am burned out. I've written 100s of thousands of words of new fiction this year (not just with NaNo) and now I need a break. Next year will be mostly about editing what I already have. I WILL be doing NaNo next year though, for sure. Just got no clue what I'll write. And I'm okay with that!

Well, there's the old standby of 'if all else fails, 50000 words of Pokemon fanfiction' but apart from that, no.

I'll be coming back for sure, I'm just not much of a planner.

I'm most definitely not planning yet. I have this NaNo story to finish, the one I was working on this summer to pick up again, and then rewriting/editing on other works...
I won't be NaNo-oriented again until, say, May or June, when I have a better view of what my second semester will be like.
This year, having to work both on my NaNo and my upcoming book (thank you, publisher, for being late and having me work faster to cope for it, despite my saying for months that NaNoWriMo is sacred), and the results on my creativity are quite apocalyptic.

This was my very first NaNo experience, and the first time I was ever actually able to complete a novel. Now that I've proven to myself that it is something that can be done, I am enthusiastic about the prospect of honing my skills. So, like others, I will continue to write, and have already begun another story. Unlike this last one, though, I am going to take my time with it. My NaNo novel will stay untouched until at least February, when I dare say I'll be ready to look over it without getting nausious. Lol

Will I be doing NaNo again? Most likely. Do I have an idea for a story? I have tons. Have I picked one? Nope. I'll know it when I see it...
