sabotage

Anyone been sabotaged at all? My husband got mad at me tonight, grabbed my laptop and changed the settings so it logged me out at 9 pm. It's *techincally* his (even though he has another one-- he's the admin on this one) and he changed his password on his account so I couldn't even get into a word processor on there.

I am SOOO far behind and I really needed to keep writing tonight. So instead, I just locked myself in the bedroom with a notebook. My sloppy calculations show that I managed to write almost 4000 words that way, so I guess it's not too bad. It just sucks that I have to take the time to type all of that up now. I'm cutting it so close time-wise... Of course, maybe he did me a favour-- no internet to distract me for 4 hours! I'm still WAY behind, but if I can manage 4500 words a day (I had already gotten in over 2000 earlier in the day), then maybe I can still do it!

I can't believe you didn't blow up at the guy. Did he have a good reason for that? Good for you for not letting that stop you though.

I'm lucky my husband has largely stayed out of my hair this year. He used to be a master of the "just walking in to see how you're doing!" sort of manuveur that always managed to jerk me out of my writing flow. He's finally gotten the hint that headphones/closed door = please don't bother me.

Re: sabotage

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Emotions are running high, I guess. But you're doing great, despite it.

My husband hasn't been quite so obvious (but then, the computer is mine, not his, so... I'm the one that gets to monopolize it,) but he does keep having emergencies where he has to go out and do stuff, help people, go to meetings, run errands... and it's always during the time when I am off of work and am supposed to be able to get some writing done without having to worry about taking:care of the kids.

He doesn't seem to realize that I can't write and take care of kids at the same time. So to him, if I'm home, he's free to go out and do his own thing. So I have to throw a hissy fit in order to get him to watch the kids so I can write. : /

Mine knows better. I do the headphones/closed door thing too, but one day he interrupted by walking in and trying to start an inane conversation just as I'd managed to get a complicated plot point straight in my head. I needed to write it down whilst the memory was fresh, and so I practically ripped his head off.

Also the laptop is mine, so he has no call over it. If he needs to use a computer whilst I'm busy he knows to go out and use the ones at the local library.

Re: sabotage

My wife has been great, but then I've also done my best to schedule my writing around the daily realities. I get some time to write during my lunch break, but otherwise there's just no point in writing until after the kids are all in bed. Fortunately they're still young enough that that leaves me two hours on a good night. My average has been just over the baseline 1667 words per day, but with my wife's support I've been able to string enough of those together to stay in the running, and I only need 1500 per day to finish out on time.

Of course this is the first year I've done this. A few years more and perhaps my family won't be as supportive. We'll see.

I don't think my family is trying to sabatoge me, but it seems that every five minutes they need something that only momma can get for them. They seem to forget when their dad gets home that he can just as easily tend to their problems or request. Of course my husband can be just as bad as the kids with wanting my attention, but he is good at putting the kids to bed at night so that I can get some quiet time to write.

I hope that you writing can be a blessing to your family and a way for them to stay in contact with a part of you. It seems from other posts that your husband is denial and trying to hold onto whatever moments with you he and the kids might be able to have. I'm really glad to hear the fight was resolved.

Don't retype, just write from there on, so you can finish your 50,000. Then see if someone can help you with validating the handwritten part. I know people who handwrite, so they must be able to validate somehow.

I hear you on the computer. My kids claim mine from the moment they get home from school. I have to write when they're not home. And if my husband is home? No way. I've written for about 20 minutes total this month with him in the house. I am supposed to do this on "my" time, when it won't interfere with family stuff.

I've made the word count, though, so I won't complain too much. But still!! I feel your pain.

On validating handwritten novels: some people count up the words as they handwrite and instead of laboriously typing everything in afterwards, they use an ipsum lorem generator to generate the required words for submission.
