Continue with my creative writing course. Set my NaNo novel aside for a week maybe two and then it will be revision time. Also thinking about outlining another story that I got brewing in my mind.
I am going to Disneyland! (but not until January). In the meantime-I need to catch up on some serious reading, yoga, knitting and gaming... oh, and maybe a nap or two.
I was too tempted to edit it as a form of procrastination around another writing project with an end-of-year deadline. So, I sent it to my critique partners and told them not to give me any feedback until I had my homework done.
But I DID write a pitch letter. Not that I'm going to send it, I just find it useful to try to capture the tone of the story and summarize it on one page in order to focus it and figure out what it's really about.
I was writing two side by side stories that had nice parallels, a light-hearted connection between them, and I thought that by doing this, I'd sustain my interest in reaching a conclusion. I mapped it out, loosely, not enough to make me bored, just enough to always know where to go next. I planned, again loosely, something to write about on each of the 30 days, should I need a boost in the right direction.
And still I procrastinated in the middle of one of the stories, which took a style direction that surprised me (and I can barely grasp how this is possible) but I went with it, thinking that would be enjoyable. Well, it was, but even though the story opened up more, it progressed much less.
I like plenty of what I wrote, though quite a bit of it could just go in favor of "I know I can do better."
But right now, I'm not sure what I want to do next. I'm thinking of writing mini-stories with these characters for awhile, to excise some demons, perhaps, regain some verve, remember that I have a rather fine vocabulary to employ...
I think I've got another 20 to 30 thousand words to write. After that there's a stack of books I've been waiting a month to read and new video game season to put some fresh callous on my thumbs. Then I'm going to start in on my final pre-query-letter draft of my '09 nanowrimo novel.
This book's been hanging around my neck since my double-NaNo of last year. This year's extra 50K+ has put me within 15-20K of the end, so I'm carrying on with it until the first draft is finally done.
Been too busy to add to the word count over this last week, but hope to be back in action this weekend.
Finish. A chapter and a half to go before I'm actually done with my mini-monster. Then I'm going to read my mega-monster for impressions and major rewrite ideas, and do some initial polishing on mini-monster for a suggested local NaNo novel swap.
But first I'm going to breathe, then spend tomorrow going somewhere that has nothing at all to do with writing or reading. Problem is, I've forgotten where those places are *sigh*
I have to finish my book. So after I take a couple of days off, try to recover from this virus I caught mid month, clean up my house from the nanoneglect, I will go back in. I'm thinking a goal of 1,000 pages a day is a good one. Or 3 pages, whichever comes first. But I also have to make Christmas presents. I've got some stuffed animals to make, some paper dolls, some coquito (yum) and photobooks for the grandparents.
Then in January, I'm hoping to go back and finish that last draft of 2009's nano and spend the next year looking for an agent.
you've just made 50K now what are you going to do?
*squeals* I'm not going to Disneyland! OMG have you SEEN what goes on there? No, I'm gonna stay right here in my nice corner and FINISH my novel.
what are you going to do?
Re: you've just made 50K now what are you going to do?
Same as you, keep pounding away at the keys until hitting The End. Then see if I can resuscitate my brain.
Re: you've just made 50K now what are you going to do?
omg, Heresy. you wrote almost twice as many words as I did.
Re: you've just made 50K now what are you going to do?
Put the Nano novel to one side and get back to short stories and RPG writing. And video games.
I'll pull the novel out again some time next year, I reckon.

Finish it. Then I'm going to do yet another edit on part I of this novel, and then I'm going to edit this one. Oh the editing!

I'm only about 2/3 of the way through the plot, so I'll keep writing. But at a slower rate-- I have Christmas presents to knit!

I don't know.

Feel less guilty when I curl up in bed to read after work, and to RP after dinner. And write my Yuletide fic.
