Hi all! I'm hoping there's someone here who is still revising/looking at this board occasionally. I am not a complete Nano newbie--I've done both Nano and Script Frenzy once and won both. I'm planning on writing another novel in January. (Eek! 5 days!) I haven't written seriously since I was a teenager, and my inner editor is killing my idea before I even start it.
I would really love to have a writing buddy (or cheerleader, if you aren't up for writing another novel too). None of my RL friends are writers. I think, at best, they humor me in what they are convinced is either a quaint or a downright crazy endeavor.
Great! BTW, I am wondering if writing the first 2k or so on New Year's Eve before the party I'm planning on going to constitutes cheating worthy of guilt monkeys? I thought I would get January 1st's words written a day early so I could stay up til midnight (or as close to it as I can manage.) I know I'll be catching up on sleep most of Jan 1. I don't function at all well when sleep-deprived.
I'm also writing an plotting in January although I don't have any particular rules set up other than to DO IT. :) You guys might want to Google Janowrimo 2012 to find some likeminded people. The 'i won, now what?' page has some good links for those who want to keep writing (I forget exactly how to get to that page but it's on NaNoWriMo site.
What exactly are you looking for in a writing buddy? One of my resolutions is to stop thinking and start writing! I'm an idea addict, the first one's free, haha, but after that you pay-- with zero follow through. My January goal is to settle on an idea and work through it. Maybe even settle on one already begun and finish! How about that? :) Unlike you, Tia, a lot of my RL friends are writers, too. I am in two writing groups-- a prompt club and a crit group. I'd be happy to share inspirations and resources with you. PM me if you're interested! Mary L.
I'm really hoping for someone to cheer me on, to check in on me every few days and say, "Hey! How's it going? How's your word count?" I would love to eventually get to the point where I am confident enough to share my work with someone else, but I don't think I'm there yet. I would like someone to help me keep my inner editor where it belongs: firmly out of the way. (I'm very much a perfectionist, very hard on myself. I tend to fall into the trap of thinking a story should emerge onto a page perfect, needing no revision. That means I don't usually get very far.)
Will I do? I am writing 2 million words (yes you read that right) next year so I will need a few cheerleaders - I'll support you, check in on you (though would you mind using my email address rather than NaNo?) as much as you like (though I can no longer promise it will be every day - life is about to go mad! I have to keep going writing wise because I have a film producer champing at the bit! If I don't deliver it will have catastrophic consequences for me - so will you check in on me, too?!

I'm hoping to get some writing done in January. Not 50,000 but I'm hoping to come close to finishing my NaNovel.

Since it's not an official NaNo I don't think you need to worry about the guilt monkeys over that. It sounds like a perfectly sensible plan to me.
