I'm 58 and my birthday is in January so I'm pleased to say I was able to do this in record time. 50,894 as of today, yes! But my poor butt and back are paying for all the sitting. My eyes aren't doing so good either. My story is by no means finished but now I can take more time with it instead of feeling I was on a speeding train, LOL. Good luck to those still fighting to get there. Oh and by the way, this was my very first NaNoWriMo and very first original novel!

Crossed the line a couple of days ago, but I'm still tapping away. I'm thinking another 10k will finish it up. This has been the easiest NaNo novel so far. Once it's done, I'll put it away until some of my WIPs are finished. Editing (and rewrites) is much easier when the book isn't so fresh in mind.

Well, I haven't gotten to 50 K yet, but i am now a day or two ahead of schedule, so that feels good. Hearing about people who have already finished makes me want to get there all the more too! Congratulations!

EXCITING! There is nothing like that sense of accomplishment not knowing if you can do it and then finding you CAN! I'm about on target. Not as excited this year as the "novel" is more introspective and frankly, boring. I hope to break out in the last 15,000 or so. But that is my life right now, looking inward and taking time to ponder.

Made it yesterday during a write-in at Starbucks in Edinburgh - I still have a few thousand words to go until I can write 'The End' and then another few thousand to add in the middle to help explain something that happens near the end! But I seem to be getting faster and faster at writing as I get older, for some reason. Maybe I'm just rambling more...

We're doing fine, Meglet. We're on track. I wrote ahead for a couple of days and that helped when I used one day to clean the basement freezer and pantry. (Also a big sense of accomplishment--I actually go down there now and then and pen the lid to the freezer and gaze and the clean emptiness.

I really ROFL at your post because my MC talks to ghosts, but she can never bring herself to tell them that they are dead so she uses euphemisms like crossed-over. My first thought when I read what you wrote was “crossed over? Who here died?” I obviously need to take a break. Thanks for making my day. Congrats to all! (sometimes it has felt like I was dead – or at least my brain.)

I crossed the 50K line sometime during a Friday-Saturday All Night Write-in. Sometime today I should finish sheet number four of a nine sheet Phase Outline. (I write on both sides of the paper, approximately twelve scenes per side.) I'm hoping to hit 100K by the end of November, though it will be a push to do it. With luck I'll finish in December.

I feel happy to be at 37,000 + toward my novel. I wrote my first published work during NanoWriMo a few years ago. This time the story is flowing smoothly and I don't feel like I'm pulling eyeteeth to get to the end! Good luck everyone and congrats to those who have made it!!

Hello and Big Congratulations to all those who have made it over the line and past the 50,000 word post! I crossed that line on 17 November, last Thursday, and even took a screen print shot to save showing my words at 50,001 and around 167 pages in Word 2010. I am writing my last chapter of this draft today. But I'm sure it's not the last chapter if you know what I mean! I'm sure I have written what turns out to be a lump of rough rock with which I hope I can sculpt something appealing with the tools at my disposal.... once this is over and it's not been looked at for a few weeks. I agree that it's hard to edit well if you don't have a healthy break from the 1st draft. But what do I know? I only ever wrote half a novel prior to this first time with NaNoWriMo and that was 14 years back! However, my short stories used to be published in women's mags and I know that, with them, I at least put them away for a few days or so and came back to edit with a fresher mind and outlook :) I haven't been using the forums much as there is a good NNWM Essex page on Facebook and lots of encouragement there. But, now I see the forums are something I've missed out on :( so I will try to join in towards 30 November. Well done to everyone and for those getting near to the magic marker - keep on keeping on! I've written a thousand times my age, just about. The plot has fallen to ragged shreds at the end, with very strange behavior by all my characters, but I think it'll be good grist for the mill when I pick it up again to edit it after the New Year. Rich

I made it today. Now all I have to wirte is around another 25,000 words and the novel will be finished. Thought I will keep writing until the end of the month, thank goodness I don't have to finish it in November. That's what December and January are for.

DONE! Well, the novel's not done. There's still one big section that I have to write but need to do more research for. And there are a lot of scenes that need a lot more work. But I did get my 50K! My first NaNo, my first attempt at writing a novel, and my first attempt at writing fiction. I'm feeling pretty damn proud of myself! Now I'm shooting for 65K by the end of the month, but I'm working some ten hour days between now and then, so we'll see. Whatever happens is okay--I did it!

Got there last night just before midnight. I feel as though I lost my characters in the last few chapters and I suspect I have huge gaps to plug in the middle but as someone who plans everything they do this has been good for me. Maybe next year I'll combine both approaches.

I passed 50k at the end of week 2 and was so happy that I could verify a few minutes ago! I am exhausted and think I'll take a break from writing today, or maybe not. First, I'll have to see if I'm able to catch any zzz's right now and that will determine my brain function later.

Congrats to everyone who's crossed that magic line. I reached 50,000 two days ago on my netbook, but I'm using my laptop count for now, since it's lower. Who knows what the NaNo counter will come up with when I validate later today! And I think I'll need another 40-50 K to finish this one but I guess I'll work on that while I'm editing in December.

Of course, I made it over 50,000 words, but my story isn't finished. I'm hoping to finish it before the end of the month. I figure I've got 7-12K words left to go to reach the end. Then I have some scenes to seriously edit and a few to add earlier in the novel. But that will be part of the rewrite process. I've yet to finish something. But then, I had never written a novel before. So I know I will finish this one, if not in the month, then certainly in December. That's a promise to myself.

Got there a couple of hours ago. I was nanorebelling. I had a short story that was too much story to fit in a short format, over 9500 words with sparse wording. For nano, I continued it into a novel, with the result that I ran out of story 900 words short of 50,000. The first section of the story isn't in the word count. I ended with an awful epilogue that will get edited out, but I got there.

Count me in! I'm officially validated, too, yay. I "finished" 1 day and 573 more words than last year. This year was especially hard, as we lost our beloved dog during the middle of my writing, but I plowed through. I have mixed feelings now of, do I want to celebrate before hunkering down during the winter to edit, or sleep for a week? Decisions, decisions. ;) Congratulations to all those who made it to the finish line already, and keep on truckin' to those nearly there. I really appreciate the support I've gotten from the folks in this forum—especially when things got heavy, and I posted about a decision to write about my recent loss of a feline best fried. Well, color me shocked; I made it. But holy moly, what a lot of clean-up to do. Word being Word, some quirky formatting occurred along the way so it'll need reformatting -- but who cares!? I made it! It needs a ton of edits, too, but it's a full first draft and that's what I wanted. Congrats to all of us "geezers," no matter whether we hit 50K or not.

You know what I love about these forums? Going back a few days and seeing the hopes and goals that everyone expresses, and then seeing the actual word counts. So many people are accomplishing more than they thought they could, being surprised that they made it to the finish line, and even past it. Congratulations to everybody, even if you don't make it across. At least you did what you could. Even better if it psyches you up to keep on going until you're finished. And there's always next year.

Here's another winner! I made it with three days to go (one of which will be my 52nd birthday). This is my third NaNo, my first writing non-fanfic, and my easiest and most enjoyable (which tells me something). And, unlike the other years, I didn't use any of the tips-and-tricks about contractions and hyphenated words, either. Yippee! wahay! *runs screaming with delight down the street*

(Ah, for those who weren't here before the big computer move, the word count bar used to turn green once your count was 50K or over. It went purple when you validated.)

Yay for me! Two years - two wins! But no more until I finish (and by that I mean complete and get to final edit/pre-submission stage) at least this one! And the Nano validator added an extra 350 words to my total over word 2003! Now to do some Christmas shopping and catch up on a month's worth of DIY that I let slip! Oh and redesign by website... Oh and help my youngest revise for her English exams... And drive my eldest to her Oxford interview (just had to slip that in - I'm that proud!)... Your new word count will continue to update each time you enter it. You don't need to revalidate. In fact, there's no point.

It's always nice to see the word count increase. You can manually key in your word count in the box up at the top of the screen, right above the National Novel Writing Month banner. You'll see the words Update Word Count in red alongside the box. Just don't input an amount below 50K and then hit Update Word Count. You'll have to re-validate the whole novel then.

I did it! Two days early. And I'm pretty happy with this novel. I know a lot of people pooh-pooh the idea of a zombie novel, but I think this one turned out pretty well. It has a fairly well constructed plot that makes sense. It has excitement and story tension that ratchets up to the climax. And I think I've got some realistic characters. It's not done. I still have two or three scenes to write, and there's probably going to be lots of revision to do, but all in all I'm pretty pleased with November.

HUGE word count there banditsrubyangel. I just finished. Surprised myself in the midst of writing away on a topic that has grabbed me for some time--lifetime encounters with death and dying--and all of a sudden I was over the word count. DONE!

Congratulations, Wendy! I'm going to self-publish next year, so I decided to throw everything in there but the kitchen sink. Whatever doesn't advance the plot I'm going to use as oneshots and freebies. I still have a way to go, though. My muse informs me that she's got some other things she wants to include before midnight on the 30th. We'll see.

I had the same reaction to the video. I hope they know it has such an effect. I watched it several times and then sent it to my family. Yay me! Yay you!

As of about 3:30 today (11/29/11) I crossed the official winner's line! This makes my third win, and it always feels so wonderful to do this. The story is not done yet, but at least I made the goal, even with the official counter eating about 300 words. Congrats to everyone who took part, and a high five to those that made it over (or made there personal goals)!

I can't believe I did it! I'm a first time newbie. What is more amazing is I still love my characters and my story. I was sure I would hate them both by the end of this month. Now it is edit, edit, edit after a good long rest. Congratulations winners and all the people who made the effort.

I just finished and I am so pleased with myself, the process, the learning and I want to say thankyou very much to the Office of Love and Letters and the Nano organisers because I did not think it was possible to write a novel in a month tl now. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou Nano people. Well done to all those that have completed theirs and the forums and writing buddies have been very inspirational. What a great thing this all is.

It's a truly wonderful feeling. Even better, I not only made the word count, but I actually got to write "The End." I am so proud of myself! My first time doing this -- and I definitely intend to come back next November! Lots of work to do in the next months. Missing scenes, corrections, inconsistencies, the usual. But I'm actually looking forward to it. Congrats to everyone!

Happy to say I made it too, yesterday morning. Took advantage of a light morning at work and whipped out the last 2500 or so words. Like most others, my novel isn't nearly complete, but I've got plenty of framework to keep me busy with it for awhile. Congrats to all -- even the mere attempt is worth celebrating!

Congrats to everyone! I made myself sit at the computer most of Sunday afternoon and evening and validated my novel around midnight. Since I had to work Monday and Tuesday evenings, I knew I wouldn't have the energy this week. I actually like my novel but am going to take some time off.

whew. I made it and finished with one heckuva last sprint. Hit 50K on the 28th, and am finishing up Nano at 59K. The novel itself is nowhere near finished, but this wasn't too bad. I was trying for 60K this year [personal best from last year], but in light of all the pretty serious family issues that have been hitting the fan since the week before Nano began, I don't think I did too badly in the end...
