Yes. I posted it in the fantasy thread.

Lessa, Menolly, Helva, and Killashandra were strong women characters written at a time that they were hard to find.

Re: Anne McCaffrey RIP

On Monday, although it wasn't made public right away. I saw it on an author's blog last night.

I read everything she wrote for years. Eventually I saw the holes in the Pern world and they bothered me enough that I quit reading her work. But she had a marvelous sense of character. I owe her a lot; learned much from her writing. And Killashandra will always be one of my favorite characters ever.

I haven't read anything of her in years, but I did enjoy the first few of the Dragonriders books that I read. My favorite, though, is The Ship Who Sang. I'm going to have to refresh my acquaintance with that one.

Re: Anne McCaffrey RIP

I was so sad after I heard that. Her books meant so much to me, and she is one of the authors that made me want to be a writer. Pern is one of those fictional worlds where if I had the chance to go there, I would without a second thought.

I've pulled out Dragonflight from my bookshelves and am re-reading it right now. Her books are just as amazing as they were when I first read them as a teen, or in my twenties, and every time after that (I love re-reading old book friends). Such a lovely woman and great talent.

Come December (or after I reach 50K) I think I'll re-read Ship Who Sang, too. Along with the Crystal Singer books. Maybe Dragonflight, too, since that's my favorite Pern book. I haven't read anything of hers for a long time.

I missed this sad news, Anne McCaffrey was an inspirational writer. I am so sad that she has gone, she inspired my love of Dragons. I will be doing a lot of rereading very soon.
Thank you Anne, you will be missed.

Man! I'm sorry to hear that. I met her back in my college days, back when she was the age I am now. She was a goddess in the world of fantasy. I like to think she passed the torch to a certain writer who has captured the imaginations of a whole new set of generations.

A great joy was reading the first novel in a three-part series in -- Amazing or some similar sci fi story magazine in my college days. She was a terrific lady and a big inspiration to many of us in the IA writers groups back in the days. Her son is carrying on the legacy. Her first book is coming out in a movie sometime in 2012 - I believe is the release date. Can't wait!! RIP Sweet Anne McCaffrey!!

I want to include a tribute in this year's novel, too, but don't have anything yet. I want something obvious but that works with the story, like Terry Pratchett having the wizards looking in the omniscope and Ridcully saying something like, "there's that giant red eye again" as a tribute to Tolkien (in Going Postal).
