Senior citizens?

ruwth

I am a senior citizen and a novice writer. Anyone else?

here's the 50+ Age Group forum, if you haven't stopped by there yet. I'm not (quite) there myself, but I know there are a large number of seniors participating in NaNo.

Thanks for replying.

I had just visited and posted on that forum.

I was wanting to connect with others my age on the December and Beyond forum.

The moderator moved my thread from there to here so I tried a bit different wording and posted there again.

Thanks again!

This forum is the appropriate place for finding members of your own age group. The addition of our new forums does not change the posting rules in the old ones. If you're looking for members of your age group, the appropriate place to gather is in your age group forum.

Moving to Age Group: 50+

Dragonchilde, this forum usually goes pretty dead after NaNo is over. I don't see what's wrong with having a seniors thread in the December and Beyond forum. I hardly bother to come here at all after NaNo is over because there's so little participation.

If you guys would post here... you would find that it wouldn't have lower participation. Continue to post, and it will continue to be active. You are here, and I see the same crowd as usual... it's your choice to continue to post here or not.

I agree. I'd like to chat with my fellow geezers throughout the year, but as Catana said, the 50+ forum really dies back after Nano.

I'd also like a place to catch up with other Nanoers during the off months.

I check in from time to time all year. There are other die-hard year rounders. Yes, it's quieter but not silent.

As for senior citizen, I dislike that term. I prefer to think of myself as a Golden Oldie although inside I still feel 35. Actually the outside isn't used up yet either, it just sports a few wrinkles, signs of being well travelled, more than signs of wear and tear.

Zookeeper

Inside, I feel about 42. I'm always surprised when someone refers to me as a senior citizen. Then I remind myself that I will be 60 in a couple of years, and most people do consider that senior. I am not at all adverse to the term "geezer," although I don't think I like "old fart" too much.

I forget to check in here during the year, and even during Camp NaNo.

Our ML created a Facebook group for our region a couple of years ago, and it's been successful - it's busy all year, except during Camp NaNo and NaNoWriMo.

Based on her success, some of us who hang out in the Age Group 50+ Smoking Pen thread thought this year that maybe a Facebook for the Smoking Pen would be useful, so we set it up.

Anyone who has a Facebook and wants to hang out there, too, during the year is welcome to do so: https://www.facebook.com/groups/252874508099716/

As a member of the Smoking Pen Facebook group that Kopi mentioned, let me add that 'this isn't your grandchild's facebook group'. To some extent, we do the same sort of story writing that we did in the Smoking Pen that's here... but we also talk about our characters, our writing process, whether we plan to edit or jump into a new story or return to real life for a bit, and our research, and our writing methods (handwriting, vs software).

Mother Goose

I went to look for this group. I put 'Smoking Pen' in the search box but it came up with nothing...?

RutaBaker

I don't twitter or visit facebook so I guess I might be a little lonely here being loyal to NaNo by myself.

Timkford

I don't do those either.So that's 2 of us.

Catana

I'm not on Facebook and never will be. Twitter isn't suited for the type of discussions that we have here. So unless people are willing to stick around, this thread will die, just like most of this forum after NaNo.

Mother Goose

I'll be popping in once and awhile too RutaBaker and Timkford!

so People... it sounds like if we want to stay connected with other 50+ (and you're not comfortable with the FB route) maybe the best thing to do is pick one of the approved 50+ threads, and use that as our home base. I don't like the word Geezer, but I suppose that the Geezer Clubhouse is the logical place. And I think as long as we don't create new threads, we can stay there, in the 50+ forum.

Kat Gentian

Fool, we can create all the threads we want, but if the main interest is gonna be 50+, they need to be here in the 50+ section. At least I'm pretty sure that 's how it works. :-)

You've got it in one. :)

It's not that you can't create threads elsewhere; quite the contrary! It's just that the threads you create need to respect the subject matter of the forum, and should fit in the forum they're in. If there's a forum dedicated to something, you'd post in that forum. You wouldn't create a thread about magic in the Reference Desk forum, for example; that goes to Fantasy.

Writing groups are a special beast; we have lounges for some things, like the age groups, and then there's the general writing groups and clubs forum for those threads that don't fit elsewhere.

You're not being held hostage here... it's just that the Life After NaNo forum is more general-interest. The more you post here, the busier it will be! You don't even have to stick to one thread, either.

Well, I am holding myself hostage here and already suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

This is my first time to make it all the way through November. :) I'm planning to stick around the boards, because I'm still writing and I'm starting to edit the part I blarted out during the craziness. I haven't been in the Geezer thread. I think partly because the length is intimidating (I hate missing the beginning of a conversation) and partly because I had it confused in my mind with the ongoing story thread.

dancingfool
51677 words so far Winner!

intrikate - the story thread is no longer here, it's been moved to the Role Playing stuff.. and the Geezer thread is not really "a" conversation.. it's more like a log of a lot of separate and different conversations. Please don't be intimidate by anything you see here.. heck, if you were able to 'win' NaNo... you shouldn't let ANYTHING intimidate you!

This is my first NaNo and the first time I've perused the groups. I hope I can maintain some connection by following along with this group! Next year I plan to win!

Carolf

As has been mentioned, if we keep posting, this group will remain alive. It really is all up to us.

I decided to do NaNoWriMo on the evening of October 31st. I'm so glad that I did. The experience has been fabulous, and I actually have a story from beginning to end to edit and improve. That's a first for me, and I couldn't have done it without Nano forcing me to stop editing and keep writing.

So, now that I'm actually writing, again, I need a support group somewhere, This seems a great place, so I'll be here throughout the year.

Hope lots of you will join those of us who have said we'll stick around!
