Anyone up for June Camp NaNo?

November has been such a good way of getting a novel written quickly that I've decided to sign up for June. I'm going to go for a novella instead of a full-length novel because I'll probably be in the middle of other projects, plus planning for next November. The story I'll be writing is an idea I've been sitting on for a long time. I've really wanted to write it, but there were too many plot problems I haven't been able to figure out. Just this morning, it all worked itself out in my head, so it's going to be full steam ahead, making notes and developing a Phase Outline like the one that helped me get this year's novel written without killing myself.

Anyone want to join me? We can discuss plots, characters, etc., here.

I don't know if I'll have a story idea for June! I'm currently editing a short story. When that's done I'll start editing one of my NaNo novels, either 2010 or 2011. It won't be until late April or early May before I'd know if I can do another story in June.

If your story feels 'ripe' I'd say write it now rather than risk losing the momentum by waiting until June. JMO

It isn't ripe, it's just ready for its plot to be developed. Momentum is never a problem for me. Right now, I'm editing last year's novel as well as (finally) writing the last two chapters; doing a second-draft edit, one chapter a day, of this year's nove; working on a short story, and starting a Phase Outline for June. As you might guess, I work best when I have several projects going at once.

I'd love to do Camp, but I discovered last summer that it doesn't work for me--I have to be able to dictate at least part of the novel, and my allergies leave me too hoarse to use my voice rec program. :-(

I'll possibly use the June camp for revising or continuing old works, sailing rebel ship again as last summer (possibly continuing the work I started revising then, maybe joined with another WIP, time permitting...

Probably taking most of my summer holidays in June.

Well, I made the decision to do NaNo on Oct 31. I suspect that if I do either of the camp sessions, it'll be a last minute decision, again.

I am definitely planning on doing November next year, though.

November is the best month for me. In June I'm far too busy in the kitchen garden and with other outdoor activities.

I might use June and August for another set of 'short' stories akin to the ones I did this year in July and August. If I were being a bit crazy, I'd try for June, July and August, with 50K targets instead of higher ones.

Re: Anyone up for June Camp NaNo?

I'll be writing. I use the camps for projects I wouldn't do in November. I don't try to win. And I don't try to write a novel, or at least I didn't last year.

Last year, I did a 25,000 word project totally based on prompts from the "Writer's Toolbox." I choose to do it in diary format of a brother and a sister. The tool box provided each day's diary entry opening sentence and statements to be used to spin the writing in another direction. Talk about no plot being no problem.

This year, I think I will read the book " Make a Scene" and write short scenes to fit the descriptions of the various types. Or perhaps some short stories from "20 Master Plots." All of that is in the thinking of possibilities stage but my writing needs help and camp is a good time to experiment. This is especially true since I don't want to spend my summer with as much time in front of the computer as I do in the winter so until I find the project I can't live without writing, June and August will be one hour a day for me just to keep writing.

I'll be doing the round of June writing - Last year's camp nano worked tremendously for me. Mostly because of two writing buddies I hooked up with.

I write literary fiction, but can support any buddies doing any genre. Feel free to look at my profile, and if you want, add me as a buddy, once June's camp grounds open up.

Bad time for me as there's so much to do in the kitchen garden during the summer months. We're still eating some of the produce I froze from 2011's garden, a great money saver over the escalating prices at the grocery store. The garden will definitely edge out every other NaNo opportunity until after harvest time, which means november again.

Yeah--it's unfortunate that the summer months are my busiest time. I gave it a shot last year, figuring that I'd save time by dictating most of my novel. Alas...my spring/summer allergies make hours of dictation impossible, I discovered. :-(

I don't have any concrete plans for the summer, so I'm going to give camp a try in June. I've only attempted camp once before and I hope this one will go well. *rumages through folders wondering where she put that collection of story ideas* I have no idea what it will be about, other than the genre which will be fantasy. Wish me luck!
