I am karalianne, and I'll be moderating your forum this year.
I like to keep everything really simple, so the basic rule is this: Respect others in the forum. This means no bullying, no swearing, and no putting other people down for things like disabilities or religious beliefs.
The only other rule you need to watch out for is that this is an All-Ages Forum, which means you can't use explicit language (e.g., swearing, graphic descriptions of sex).
If you have any problems, please send me a NaNoMail about it. Don't fight on the forum, I don't like having to break up fights. Thanks! :)
Now, who am I? (Because I know you don't want to just do what I say because I told you to do it!)
I am Janna. I am the Municipal Liaison (ML) for Saskatoon, and before that I was the ML for Calgary. (Those are cities in Canada.) I just got married last summer (July 2010). I don't have any children yet, but I do have a three-year-old female cat named Roy and a nine-month-old guinea pig named Batman. If I'm reading a novel, it's either Young Adult, fantasy, or science fiction (my non-fiction tastes aren't as much fun). I like Marvel comics, especially Wolverine, Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Spider-Man, and She-Hulk. I really enjoy action movies, particularly if there are big explosions in them.
In 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010, I wrote young adult novels for NaNo. This year, I'm branching out and having a go at some epic fantasy. The culture looks to be a mix of Steampunk, medieval, and ancient Greek, with magic tossed in for good measure. We'll see what else gets thrown in as I go - I'll be writing it backwards, too! (Last scene first, then the scene before that, then the scene before that, and so on until I reach the beginning.)
So - introduce yourselves! Let us know what you're writing and tell us a bit about yourselves.
Please do not post personal information to this forum. This means your personal e-mail address, your phone number, and your street or mailing address. These things should be shared privately, if at all. Please be safe!
I have the best news!
We don't have to lock threads that go over 500 posts anymore! Hooray!
That was a limitation of the old site. Now that we're on Ruby on Rails, we are golden! :) So enjoy your posting, everyone!
Hi everybody! My name is Cam and I'm pretty much technically 13 since i'll its my birthday on november 10, but starting november 1, so don't sue me! I love this place so far and I might have some difficulty on my romance novel (Which is by the way Slash, meaning homosexual romance, just to forewarn you) and i plan to at least reach 30, 000 words on it. I'll be trying my best and aiming for the 50, 000 stretch so if i ever need help, I'd come here for an idea. If you also need help or would like to comment on my literature, send me a message, I have an overactive imagination. Anyway, I hope to see more great stories, as well as writers enter the world of NaNoWriMo. See Ya!
Hi! My birthday's in November, too! I was born on the fifteenth, five days after yours. I wrote when I was little, but never got the idea to be a writer until 6th grade, i believe. Besides, I'm pretty sure the stuff I wrote was virtually the exact same thing that I saw when I watched Pokemon cuz tht was the show i was into back then and so i wrote things, chapters explaining wht happened in it or other stuff too, idk, i rly cant remember. Thank goodness for computers, my hand writing is atrocious, to the point where sometimes i cant even read it, so yeah i need to type it. Lolz.
I'm Huushi, another one of your mods. I ML for Canada:Elsewhere. I ML'ed for Calgary as well (after Janna left *shakes fist angrily* lol) and I love ML'ing. I also mod three forums. This one, Supernatural and Horror, and Fantasy. I have a cat, Luna, that owns me and my boyfriend.
I write a lot of fantasy, and I'm obsessed with the supernatural. I love YA books, and my favourite authors are Christopher Pike (who was a big hit fifteen years ago), Tamora E Pierce, and JK Rowling. I've done NaNo six years now, and I've won the last three times.
As of right now, I have no idea what I'll be writing, but it'll be somewhat dark and creepy. Though, not to creepy. I also don't like zombies. O.o
I'm Clare from the Midwest! For NaNo this year, I am doing a modern re-write of an omitted Grimm fairy tale (meaning no one but myself and Jack Zipes have ever heard of it...) called The Lion and the Frog. I won my first NaNo last year, but I had so much fun, why quit?
I love Owl City, the movie Tangled, and my younger sister's cooking.
Hello everyone :) I'm Kiera (my user name is my MC's name, btw ;) ) and I thought I'd pop in and say hi!
This is my second round of NaNo, and I'm getting pretty excited :) I was never really a part of the forums last year (it takes me awhile to get used to a new enviroment..) so I thought I'd try to get more involved this year!
I'm really looking forward to writing my novel this year, I hope to get it published :) I'm really proud of it s'far, and I hope it'll be completed by the end of this month ^^
Hi, I am so excited about my first year with nanowrimo! I'm only 13 years old, so 5K could be a bit of a stretch, but you never know! I already have all kinds of ideas bouncing about my head, taunting me to write them. I hope that I can at least get a few thousand words, if not the full 50. It should be difficult, but what's the fun if there is no challenge? Anyway, I'm loving nanowrimo and everything about it.
I want to send out a huge thanks to my awesome friend for introducing me to this!

So, I guess I can post here...
As you can tell, I'm not a huge particpant in the forums. Mainly I lurk around, using the threads but never actually contributing anything. Maybe that'll change this year. We'll see.
I'm Angela, and this is my second year doing NaNo- and hopefully my second of winning it! I'm 14, and I really like to write... last year I wrote a full out fantasy novel (Reaper), which I'm...still putting the finishing touches on. (Read: editing/forcing myself to re-read/changing the crappy scenes I wrote in the last week of November last week.) This year I'm doing a realistic fiction YA book, with... eh. It's not really fantasy, but it definitely doesn't take place in the "real" world. Realisit slightly fantasy YA? I guess. :)
Either way, I hope to see y'all around the forums!
Hi! I'm Gabi from Toronto, Canada. I sometimes lurk, and then go on these commenting sprees that are kind of obnoxious. Yeah. This is my second year, and hopefully will be my first win! I'm excited. My book is fantasy, but a little bit tongue-in-cheek.
Hello all, I'm Shannon. :D Since I'm starting on time this year, I'm really hoping to make it to 50 this round. I'm pretty excited about my idea, though had trouble picking a genre. I ended up with Sci-Fi, not so much because its space craft and aliens, but more because it’s a utopia/dystopia kind of thing. So, yea. My biggest problem is that normally I'd just blow off all my homework and do NaNo, 'cept senior year fist quarter grades are supposed to be really important..... bleh :/ Still, I'll make it work XD You can check my info for my plot summery if anybody wants lol.
Hello all, I'm Vicky and I'm from the UK. This will be my fourth NaNo, and as ever, I'm trying something new this year, which has been heavily influenced by my choice of reading material. I'm a huge fan of Hunter S. Thompson, but have also become a fan of both Bret Easton Ellis and Chuck Palahniuk .. I've started reading quite a bit of transgressive fiction, and so, it only makes sense that I should try my hand at writing it! :D
Um, what else ... well, I really am looking forward to NaNo this year! I mean, I always look forward to NaNo, but I've had so many other things to think and stress out about in the past. This year, I'm unemployed, so NaNoing kind of gives me a reason to finally do something other than continue the hunt for work, which is futile and irritating because obviously, nobody wants to hire someone not-so-fresh out of college whose best grades are in English language and Literature. Sad. :( ... so um, for this reason, yep, I still live at home ... and sleep. Man, I sleep a lot. Hell, even when I'm not tired, I'll sleep. Like this morning, I slept in until midday, actually conscious of the fact that it was almost midday, but hey, that dream I was having was awesome.
Anyways, I've wasted enough of your time. Nice to meet you all. :D
I am Thomas and I am from Tennessee. I have never participated in NaNo before, and only just heard about it a week or so ago from Neil Gaiman Tumblr blog. I read what it was about and got crazy excited at the idea. So I signed up and have been telling some friends about it. I have had this idea for a Science Fiction story for a year or two and have been wanting to have some way of telling it, but could never motivate myself to just sit down and write it. I am a Senior this year and I hope that my school work won't get in the way of reaching the 50k, which I really really really would just love to do. So, I wish everyone here the best of luck!!!
Hi there, I'm Phil from England and this will be my second nano. I'm doing a young adult fantasy novel (kinda quest-y) and I can't wait to get started. Still deciding how much I shoukd plan and how I'm going to fit my school work in whilst writing. I'm doing AS levels so if anyone's in the same boat the bung me a message. Can't wait till the first!
Hey, I'm Dusk (sorry, have a habit of not using real names for forums), and I'm from south east England, and currently working towards my AS's, which are actually science and maths based.
I've technically been signed up for 3 years, but whenever November rolls around there's been exams, or schoolwork, and whatnot. I read a lot of things, though I prefer fanatsy and Sub-urban fantasy, minus the romance parts. I also read manga, which may occasionally effect my style, along with the fact I rp alit, so I tend to focus on characters rather than plot....
I have no idea what genre my novel is....possibly Young Adult, but definitely a lot of Fantasy/magic bits in there, along with various other things. The entire point is to subvert a couple of the major 'taken for granted' things in fiction. Kind of loving how everyone wants to do Young Adult/Fantasy this year. Anyway, uh, hey guys. Call me Kix. From beautiful British Columbia, fifteen years of age. <: FIRST YEAR OF NANO. But, yeah, planning to do young adult/fantasy like the majority of people here. 'Cept, mine inculdes familliars and demons, possibly. And the typical manga-genre of school life. Yeah. I've read too many manga in my days. Watched too much anime.
SO UH. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU GUYS. I'm not doing much planning, so this will be interesting. c:

...I don't know what else to post here so I'd just dance something for you guys. *dances*
Hello!! My pen name's Artemis and I'm from India. I'm currently doing my 1st year Chem Engg and this is also my first NaNo! juggling my exams and NaNo would surely be a feat but I really feel like giving it a shot! I read books of almost all genres and I also read a lot of manga and comics! Mega cartoons(not the ones they show on CN now but the old ones when I was a kid!) and anime fan! My other hobbies are writing, playing the violin, photography and blogging. Don't really have any particular idea for a plot, just a lot of vague ones floating around my mind so I've decided to just go with the flow! Can't wait for nov 1st! :) Hope to make to the 50k mark before nov 30th!! :D
Hi, I'm Ruth (all the pen names I thought of sounded dumb so what the hey may as well use my real one) and I'm from the UK. This is my very first time doing this, and on top of my GCSE coursework (ARH!) I read a lot of trashy teenage chick-lit, but I'm also obsessed with Harry Potter. I've always loved writing so I'm goignt o give this a shot, wish me luck! My idea is a story that follows the life of an eccentric girl, written from other people's point of veiw (different person each chapter) from her best friend to the shop keeper, the people she's known and left. It doesn't sound great I know, but as long as it gets me writing (: Nice to meet you all x
I don't remember if I've introduced myself on the new forums (which, by the way, are great!) ... but I might as well, since I have time to kill.
I go by Ashe, because most people who aren't me have a devil of a time spelling "Amethystasheryn". I've been NaNoing since 08, have won twice and lost once, and am really looking forward to this year. Actually I'm fairly worried I won't succeed this year, since I'm going to be doing a lot of college and grant applications and schoolwork in November, but I decided I'd give it a shot anyhow since I'd feel bad if I didn't. So here I am.
I really enjoy science fiction, satire/humor and some urban fantasy here and there, and this year's NaNo is going to be a soft sci-fi based on an online roleplay game I used to play.
I spend more time than is probably healthy online and watching TV, and I'm more fond of my family than most of my friends are of theirs (this thing where you enter your teens and suddenly hate your parents is so confusing to me!), so I spend a lot of time hanging out with them as well. Maybe it's because they're the only ones who would ever dream of watching Phineas and Ferb with me. ;)
Anyway, before this gets any longer or further off-track, I should sign off. Send me a Nanomail if you want; although my visits to this site may be a bit sporadic, I will eventually answer back.
Welcome to NaNoWriMo 2011! Yay! Announcement! (See end of first post)

It doesn't sound great I know, but as long as it gets me writing (:
Nice to meet you all x

:) Ashe
