I love this forum! We're studying Shakespeare in school, and at the moment I'm the only one making any effort in the class. People, even if you don't like Shakespeare HE STILL CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR MARKS. But no. People can't seem to understand that.

And yes, as a reward for finishing NaNoWriMo my Mum has agreed to take me to the first Shakespeare play that will be on show in December OR a showing of A Christmas Carol. I can't wait! Enough about me... How are the rest of your NaNos going, fellow Shakespeare nerds?

Shakespeare = LOVE!!!

Guys, my name is Kathryn (don't ask about the whole "BriLexen" thing), and I was named after Katherine from Taming of the Shrew! I plan on naming a daughter Beatrice for the heroine of Much Ado About Nothing (because Much Ado About Nothing is happiness ^_^)

I have performed as Queen Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Duchess of York in the "wailing women" scene from Richard III, and both Lady Macduff and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. I'd say Lady Macbeth is probably my favorite roll I've ever played, though Queen Titania was a lot of fun.
Dream rolls are: Katherine (obviously, I can't believe I've never played her!), Beatrice (also kind of obvious), and Maria from Twelfth Night. Oh, and I would LOVE to play Witch 2 in Macbeth.

What about you guys?

I'm not an actor at all, but my brother is, and he did a lot of Shakespeare for a while until he got into high school and became too busy.

I think my claim to Shakespeare nerdfame here is that I've seen Romeo and Juliet. At the Globe. In London.

I've seen quite a few plays performed (thank you papa), my favourite was seeing David Tennant in Hamlet in Stratford. He was just mindblowingly amazing :D

I love most of Shakespeare's plays! I'm not really an actress, but I memorized Benedick's monologue from Much Ado About Nothing, the "I do much wonder" one. And yes, I embarrassed I love Much Ado so much since it's essentially a chick flick, but I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

I also love the way Caesar dies. Everyone I know forgets his last line, which kills me because I love it so much. Everyone knows "Et tu, Brute?" but they forget the "then fall Caesar". I just love that so much!

And I've seen Othello, Taming of the Shrew, As You Like It, A Comedy of Errors, King Henry V, and The Tempest at the Blackfriar's Theatre in Staunton, VA. They perform the plays the way Shakespeare would have, with the lights on in the audience. There are even seats on stage you can sit on! And I totally have. I get to see them perform again in December and once more in January. I'm so so excited! Although I am bummed that I'm missing Hamlet. That's one of the plays that's much better to see performed than read.

Never been in a Shakespeare play, but I love them. My goal is to finish reading all of them before June :) I've got his complete works in one marvelous book and I go to a Shakespeare festival in my city every summer. I've seen them do Merchant of Venice, Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Comedy of Errors. This year they're doing Macbeth and Taming of the Shrew. The former is my favourite and I can't stop thinking about it even though it's quite a long time from now.

I'm also planning on going to school in the UK for a year and I'm determined to go to the Globe while I'm there and get as much of a Shakespeare fix as I can :)

I'm no actor, but I simply love reading and seeing his plays. I've seen: Hamlet, Cymbeline, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Comedy of Errors, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night's Dream (which I'm probably going to see again this weekend.)

I LOVE Shakespeare. I own all the plays, and I've acted in two of them, and done two other scenes for Drama class at school.
I did a Juliet part for Drama class last year. (It was the scene when Juliet is with the Friar and threatens to kill herself).
I also did a pair assessment for Drama this year, with one of my friends. She was Petruchio and I was Kate. (It was really great. Taming of the Shrew is one of my favourite plays. :) )
I also had a couple of parts in The Taming of the Shrew last year, and a couple of parts in A Midsummer Night's Dream this year. It was awesome.

I'm going to see a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream tonight actually! I'm finding it rather ironic that I found this thread today...

Re: Shakespeare nerds!

I'm a total nerd for Shakespeare -- the sonnets, the plays, all of it!

My specialty's really in his tragedies, and my favorite is Julius Caesar. Antony has the best lines, and sometimes it makes me sad that I'm female -- all of the really good lines tend to go to the male parts. Especially in Caesar and Richard III (the exception for Richard being Queen Margaret -- she has some of the most awesome lines ever). My favorite Shakespeare character, though, is without doubt Richard Gloucester. I love his opening soliloquoy.

I acted in Midsummer just recently, though I was the Narrator -- a part I recieved so that non-speakers of Shakespearean English could understand the plot -- and it was wonderful. Puck and Oberon have awesome roles, as does Hermia.

Also, in tenth grade, my first quarter English project was to memorize fifty lines of Shakespeare and perform at my school's Safe Halloween event. The other groups eventually got frustrated with the attention spans of the small children and stopped performing, and I was like, "Hey, *****es, I got this," and proceeded to keep those kids occupied for forty-five minutes with Mercutio's Queen Mab speech, and an improved version of his death scene. The kids were wonderful -- probably because I took a page out of the Zeferelli film and was leaping and jumping around.

So yeah, that's my Shakespeare nerd cred.

Re: Shakespeare nerds!

I have only ever done one Shakespeare play, and it was fun! I had an audition for Juliet at a nearby boys school, and I love the language!!!! I spent al Thanksgiving break watching the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet, with Olivia Hussey as Juliet and Leonardo Whitely as Romeo. It's amazing how the words are put together and they just roll off your tongue perfectly- they aren't choppy at all. They're so much fun to read and say, because its a challenge to actors to understand the character and then express that through the words and the movements.

Wish me luck on getting the role!

Shakespeare nerd here. I've read lots of his plays, and I have read (and own a copy of) all of the sonnets. In a book on my shelf, actually.

I've never been in a full Shakespeare play, but when I was a little younger I performed in a selection of scenes called William's Window. I was Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Baptista (for two lines and with the world's worst costume) in Taming of the Shrew, and then Celia from As You Like It (with a much better costume, that required the world's quickest change, and a good deal more lines).

I am most assuredly a Shakespeare nerd.

All my NaNoWriMo characters are named after Shakespearean characters, and there are some relationships that are oddly similar to Shakespearean relationships (particularly Midsummer Night's Dream).
And my FMC quotes him.
A lot.

I study Hamlet and MacBeth back in high school, but never really got into Shakespeare. At least, not until last week when my sister took me to see The 12th Night, performed by a local group of thespians. Now, if we had studied the comedies, I might have been more of a Shakespearean nerd. But I still managed to catch most of the references in Gnomeo and Juliet.

Juliet is smarter than Romeo. I mean, Romeo just lets his hormones control his actions. One moment he's trying to make friends with Tybalt and then next, he kills him.

YES. She's also more brave than he is. He drinks the vial of poison, she stabs herself. Juliet is much more thoughtful. I think she's much more careful, and innocent. I've alway wanted a happy ending to Romeo and Juliet.
