Beautiful Songs

This thread is dedicated to one of the main factors that helps us get through NaNoWriMo. Music!
Here are the lyrics to a song by Casting Crowns, called Wedding Day. I love this song. It totally makes me cry. The chorus, especially.
What's one of your favorite songs?

There's a stirring in the throne room
And all creation holds it's breath
Waiting now to see the bride groom
Wondering how the bride will dress
And she wears white
And she knows that she's undeserving
She bears the shame of history
With this worn and weary maiden
Is not the bride that he sees
And she wears white, head to toe
But only he could make it so

When someone dries your tears
When someone wins your heart
And says your beautiful
When you don't know you are
And all you've longed to see
Is written on his face
When love has come and finally set you free
On that wedding day
On that wedding day

She has danced in golden castles
And she has crawled through beggar's dust
But today she stands before him
And she wears his righteousness
And she will be who he adores
And this is what he made her for

When the hand that bears the only scars
And heaven touch her face
And the last tears she'll ever cry
Are finally wiped away
And the clouds roll back as he takes her hand
And walks her through the gates
Forever we will reign

Aw, that's so pretty! Casting Crowns has some songs that I like.

I have completely forgotten what my favorite beautiful song is. Everything is too fast or a break-up song. Like... OKAY I GOT ONE!

Chris August - You and I (not the LG one) Though that is pretty fast, but very pleasant. :-D He does have one that is slow and beautiful....

Re: Beautiful Songs

Well I'm on a Death Cab kick, which means I'm listening to a bunch of tragically beautiful songs on repeat...

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

*What Sarah Said*

And it came to me then that every plan is a tiny prayer to father time
As I stared at my shoes in the ICU that reeked of piss and 409
And I rationed my breaths as I said to myself that I'd already taken too much today
As each descending peak on the LCD took you a little farther away from me
Away from me

Amongst the vending machines and year-old magazines in a place where we only say goodbye
It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend on a faulty camera in our minds
But I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all
And I looked around at all the eyes on the ground as the TV entertained itself

'Cause there's no comfort in the waiting room
Just nervous pacers bracing for bad news
And then the nurse comes round and everyone will lift their heads
But I'm thinking of what Sarah said that "Love is watching someone die"

So who's going to watch you die?
So who's going to watch you die?

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

*Someday You Will Be Loved*

I once knew a girl in the years of my youth
With eyes like the summer, all beauty and truth
In the morning I fled, left a note and it read:
"Someday you will be loved"

I cannot pretend that I felt any regret
Cause each broken heart will eventually mend
As the blood runs red down the needle and thread
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved, you'll be loved like you never have known
The memories of me will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You may feel alone when you're falling asleep
And every time tears roll down your cheeks
But I know your heart belongs to someone you've yet to meet
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved, you'll be loved like you never have known
The memories of me will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved, you'll be loved like you never have known
The memories of me will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

One of the most beautiful songs ever that is helping me through my Nanoing juts so happens to be in Japanese but I will translate.

Hi Miss Alice
With your glass eyes
What kind of dream
Can you see?
Are you fascinated with?

Stilll
My heart tears
And drifts
Stuck in the patched crevices
Are memories
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/k/kanon_wakeshima/still_doll_english.html ]
Hi Miss Alice
With that fruitful lips
To whom does love
Is cast away?
Is lamented?

Already
I spin my words
Feverish tongue
Has turned cold
The song to love
Can't be sung either

Still you do not answer

Gosh that sounds cooler in Japanese...Whatever look it up. It is by Kanon Wakeshima. She is amazing trust me on this one.

Re: Beautiful Songs

Aw, these are pretty! One song that I adore and think is totally gorgeous is Good Enough by Evanescence. Along with the piano, it gives me chills :)

Under your spell again,
I can't say no to you.
Crave my heart and it's bleeding in your hands,
I can't say no to you.

Shouldn't let you torture me so sweetly,
Now I can't let go of this dream,
I can't breath,
But I feel good enough.
I feel good enough,
For you.

Drink up sweet decadence,
I can't say no to you.
And I've completely lost myself and I don't mind!
I can't say no, to you.
Shouldn't let you conquer me completely,
Now I can't let go of this dream,
Can't believe that I feel good enough.

I feel good enough.
It's been such a long time comin'
But I feel good.

And I'm still waiting for the rain,
To fall, and pour real life down on me.
Cause I can't hold on,
To anything, this good enough.
Am I good enough,
For you to love me too?

So take care,
What you ask of me.
Cause I can't say no.

Here's the actual song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw2Ic_2XdVQ&amp;ob=av2e &lt;3

Re: Beautiful Songs

I hadn't heard that song before, but just looked it up. Loved it so much I added it to my list of songs to buy. So thank you :D

But I would disagree about break-up songs not being beautiful...
Case-in-point:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_7avY5NpZ4" rel="nofollow">The Ice is Getting Thinner - Death Cab for Cutie</a> (Yep. I'm still listening to them on repeat.)

We're not the same, dear
As we used to be
The seasons have changed
And so have we
And there was little we could say
And even less that we could do
To stop the ice from getting thinner
Under me and you

We buried our love
In a wintery grave
A lump in the snow
Was all that remained
Though we stayed by its side
As the days turned to weeks
And the ice kept getting thinner
With ever word that we'd speak

And when the spring arrived
We were taken by surprise
When the floes under our feet
Bled into the sea
And nothing was left
For you and me

We're not the same, dear
And it seems to me
There's nowhere we can go
With nothing underneath
And it saddens me to say
What we both knew was true
That the ice was getting thinner
Under me and you

The ice was getting thinner
Under me and you

Also, another beautiful pre-breakup song by them is <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZWZo-rnciE" rel="nofollow">Brothers on a Hotel Bed</a> . This song has the most amazing imagery and the most beautiful use of language. "You may tire of me as our December sun is setting..."

Natalie McDonald. Just all of her songs, always.
Specifically, Lament of the Neurotic. Find it here (http://www.myspace.com/wikipediahearts/music/songs/lament-of-the-neurotic-59009871) and buy it on iTunes, her album's called Natalie McDonald.
This girl went to my school last year and is honestly one of my favorite artists that I 'discovered' in 2010. And that's including Adele.
The Chase, also, is fantastic. This girl's going places. (and yes, I fangirl every time we interact XD)

Not for what I have done of who I may become
Who will love me for me?

Re: Beautiful Songs

It's called What Love Really Means by JJ Heller.

He cries in the corner where nobody sees,
he's the kid with the story no one would believe.
He prays every night, 'Dear God, won't you please,
'Could you send someone here who will love me?'

Who will love me for me
not for what I have done or what I will become
Who will love me for me
'cos nobody has shown me what love,
what love really means.

Her office is shrinking a little each day
she's the woman whose husband has run away.
She'll go to the gym after working today
maybe if she were thinner, then he would've stayed
She said:

Who will love me for me
not for what I have done or what I will become
Who will love me for me
'cos nobody has shown me what love
what love really means.

He's waiting to die as he sits alone
He's the man in the cell who regrets what he's done
He utters a cry from the depths of his soul-
Oh Lord, forgive me, I want to go home.
Then he hears a voice somewhere deep inside
It says:
I know you've murdered and
I know you've lied.
I've watched you suffer
all of your life
Now that you'll listen, I'll tell you that I

I will love you for you
not for what you have done
or what you will become
I will love you for you
I will give you the love,
the love that you never knew.

Also, You Can Let Go Now Daddy by Crystal Shawanda. Her voice takes a little getting used to, but WOW.

I adore DBSK for beautiful songs - they're a Korean group that sings in both Korean and Japanese, and I can't understand a word unless they happen to throw in an English word or too, but they have amazing acapellas and generally gorgeous songs. Unfortunately, they're disbanded now, split into two groups - JYJ and Homin (Homin is still called DBSK). Oh, and they're also called TVXQ or Tohoshinki, depending on if you're in China or Japan as well. xD

Some of my favorites:

And now I'll try to avoid giving a bazillion and one songs.

Re: Beautiful Songs

OhDeathCab,ohDeathCab,ohDeathCab.

Let me take a moment to collect the inner fangirl. As there is enough Death Cab here, I will submit other splendid things.

Most of these will be short excerpts of the lyrics, so as not to make a massivehuge post. The only exception here being White Winter Hymnal, because the song is short, and the imagery is crisp, and the music is sweet. Couldn't want much else.

Oh, and these people I listed? I adore all of them, and can totally recommend more, equally stellar songs by them, if you'd like :)

<strong>"White Winter Hymnal" by Fleet Foxes</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858711972/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCzIw4W7fdQ" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"I was following the pack all swallowed in their coats
With scarves of red tied 'round their throats
To keep their little heads
From falling in the snow
And I turned 'round and there you go
And Michael, you would fall
And turn the white snow red as strawberries in the summertime"

And we'll get some of this this <strong>Iron &amp; Wine</strong> out of my system.

<strong>"Rabbit Will Run" by Iron &amp; Wine</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858856972/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz6Jr6bz1Wo" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"We bricked up the garden and know what it means
And we've all kissed a virgin as if she were clean
And I still have a prayer, despite all the colors I've seen

And judgment is just like a cup that we share
I'll jump over the wall and I'll wait for you there
We'll pass the weeds in our vision of things to come

We've all heard the rooster and all been denied
And we've seen through the haze and the spit in our eyes
And I still have a prayer, a well-weathered word to the wise"

<strong>"Walking Far From Home" by Iron &amp; Wine</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858852608/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06vA3Z42Vz8" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"I was walking far from home
Where the names were not burned along the wall
Saw a building high as heaven
But the door was so small, door was so small
I saw rainclouds, little babies
And a bridge that had tumbled to the ground
I saw sinners making music
I've dreamt of that sound, dreamt of that sound

I was walking far from home
But I carried your letters all the while
I saw lovers in a window
Whisper, 'Want me like time, want me like time'"

<strong>"Blood on the Snow" by Horse Feathers</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858729981/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlLuf9NfD9w" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"Painless ghosts,
of which she knows,
the smell in her clothes,
the smell in her nose.
There's blood on the snow.

Bring your love,
it's on your tongue,
it's on your roads,
and in your toes.
There's blood on the snow."

<strong>"Thistle and Weeds" by Mumford &amp; Sons</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858789864/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_YJhmGKTxk" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"Spare me your judgements and spare me your dreams
Cause recently mine have been tearing my seams
I sit alone in this winter clarity which clouds my mind
Alone in the wind and the rain you left me
It's getting dark darling, too dark to see
And I'm on my knees, and your faith in shreds, it seems

But plant your hopes with good seeds
Don't cover yourself with thistle and weeds
Rain down, rain down on me
Look over your hills and be still
The sky above us shoots to kill
Rain down, rain down on me"

<strong>"Doorways" by Radical Face</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858836428/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE2Urfcrfbw" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"When I was just a boy still owl-eyed
I liked to drink the rain to taste the sky
I tried to count the stars while in my bed
to keep the thoughts of monsters from my head

And I believed the stars were wishes
I believed the world was good
I believed things hid in the dark
and that all would turn out just how it should
I believed in all your stories
I believed you'd never lie
I believed if i could climb the trees behind the house,
I'd touch the sky "

Now, these two songs have to be listened to in succession to get the full effect, but you can listen to them individually if you like. I highly encourage listening to them in the order I listed:

<strong>"All Is Well (It's Only Blood)" by Radical Face</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858880249/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSYaPRnDfMs" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"All is well now
Pay no mind
All is well now
I'm just fine
I'm just fine

It's only blood; I have plenty left
It's only blood; I just need to rest"

<strong>"All Is Well (Goodbye, Goodbye)" by Radical Face</strong>
<a href="http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858879677/" rel="nofollow">Lyrics</a> | <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5afkRBhVr1E" rel="nofollow">Youtube</a>
"so I collected all our plans and crimes
and set them all alight
the only thing that bound me to this place
you took with you when you died
so goodbye, goodbye"

If you liked those songs, both of them plus a third track are on Radical Face's free EP "The Bastards: Volume One," available <a href="http://filtermagazine.com/index.php/media/entry/mp3_radical_face_put_out_the_bastards_volume_one_ep" rel="nofollow">here</a> for free download, a gift from Mr. Ben Cooper, the man behind Radical Face, to you. :)

...okay, I'm done for now.

*Fiona Apple - Paper Bag
And I believed for a moment that my chances
Were approaching to be grabbed
But as it came down near, so did a weary tear
I thought it was a bird, but it was just a paper bag

Hunger hurts, and I want him so bad, oh it kills
'Cause I know I'm a mess he don't wanna clean up
I got to fold 'cause these hands are too shaky to hold
Hunger hurts, but starving works, when it costs too much to love

*She - Elvis Costello
"She, May be the beauty or the beast,
May be the famine or the feast ,
May turn each day into a heaven or a hell,
She may be the mirror of my dreams
The smile reflected in a stream
She may not be what she may seem
Inside her shell"

*Spark - Tori Amos
She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's afraid of the light in the dark
6:58 are you sure where my spark is
Here

*Hotel Plaster - Nicole Atkins
Think of me in the prison of hotel plaster
Far from the shelter of your side
We broke a diamond with our bitter words, hold on to our light

Re: Beautiful Songs

OLDIE FANS, UNITE!!!!

Anyhoo, if I had to choose, these two songs have some of my favorite lyrics EVER.

Levon (Elton John):

Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Jesus
`Cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town
Levon, Levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spends his days counting
In a garage by the motorway
He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
And the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today
chorus
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Levon
Levon sells cartoon balloons in town
His family business thrives
Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly
And Jesus, he wants to go to Venus
Leaving Levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing
While Levon, Levon slowly dies
He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
And the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today

How He Loves:

(Verse 1)
He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy
When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realise just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me

(Pre-Chorus)
And O how He loves us
Oh, O how He loves us
How He loves us all

(Chorus)
Yeah He loves us
O how He loves us
O how He loves us
O how He loves

(Verse 2)
We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If grace is an ocean, we're all sinking
So Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don't have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way

A Song for Esther- Alexander Carpenter

And now the glue's all dried
The pages are all smooth
All that's missing are your eyes

A scrapbook full of love
Just bursting at the seams
These pictures are crystal clear

Text on the internet
Or words on the phone
Esther, you're not alone

Life has a way of throwing us into the deep end
Have faith, we'll learn to swim with the help of our friends
Be unabashed, if you make a splash
We're all right here by your side

To all those who know you well
And those who wish they did
There's something magical
That draws them to you

And you're more brave than a boy with a lightning scar
More inspirational than the Weasleys

I'd like to thank you for the courage you have shown
Esther you're not alone

Life has a way of throwing us into the deep end
Have faith, we'll learn to swim with the help of our friends
Be unabashed, if you make a splash
Everyone is right here by your side

Everyone is right there by your side
And we're gonna stay here by your side

Esther, Esther, Esther, Esther

Text on the internet
Or words on the phone
Esther, you're not alone

I'd like to thank you for the courage you have shown
Esther, you're not alone

Re: Beautiful Songs

Luke Conard, Your Song:

I think that I'm in love with you
And there's nothing more that I can do
But every breath I take
Longs for you

Remember when we used to find ourselves without interruption
We'd be just playing guitar, making melodies, and strumming along with the beat

Singing how we hate the world the pain
But together we can start a band without a name

I'll sing the lows, you sing the highs
We'll sing until our voices are dry

I think that I'm in love with you
And there's nothing more that I can do
But every breath I take
Longs for you

It's not the same without you here
And I'm trying to persevere
But even when you're so far away
I love you
I love you

Remember the time that I picked you up from the airport
I was just waiting by my car, smile on my face, and my heart was all in a whirl

Thinking how the hell did I end up here
My heart was closed but now I want you near

Then you wrapped your arms and I held you tight
I had the feeling we might make some music tonight

I think that I'm in love with you
And there's nothing more that I can do
But every breath I take
Longs for you

It's not the same without you here
And I'm trying to persevere
But even when you're so far away
I love you

Just to hear you sing
The joy your song brings
That would be music to my ears

Your voice is so far away
This world is so dark and gray
Please let's play that song again

I think that I'm in love with you (Just to hear you sing)
And there's nothing more that I can do (The joy your song brings)
But every breath I take (That would be music to my ears)
Longs for you

It's not the same without you here (Your voice is so far away)
And I'm trying to persevere (This world is so dark and gray)
But even when you're so far away (Please let's play that song again)
I love you

Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls &lt;-- Beautiful use of the mandolin. The music is just as gorgeous as the voice.

"When everything feels like the movies/Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive."

Black Balloon by The Goo Goo Dolls &lt;-- I've always said I hope someday someone will feel that way about me.

"A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one?
I saw the world spin beneath you
Then scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb

Coming down the world turned over
Angels fall without you there
And I'll go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer?"

Hands by Jewel &lt;-- People need people. Jewel is such a beautiful person.

"'Cause where there's a man that has no voice/There ours shall go singing. We are... God's hands."

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie &lt;-- Apparently they have more beautiful songs than anybody.

"The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
'Cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms."

Okay. I've heard the song Courageous by Casting Crowns a ton but it wasn't until this weekend that it hit me as a beautiful song. There is this one line and I was just like WOW!

'the only way that we can stand is on our knees with lifted hands make me courageous, Lord make us courageous....'

I may not have quoted that perfectly but it is awsome.

Here's one:

"Brielle" - Sky Sailing

"There's a handwritten note pressed in the door of her screened-in porch
And I am sailing away recalling that day miles from shore
She was still wearing white and robin's egg blue, her grandmother's dress
When I left early this year, how I wound up here is anyone's guess
When the new sights grow old and I start to feel cold I'll sail home again

Goodbye Brielle
Only whispers can tell
Of the sweet dreams that we knew so well
I'll see you around our dear ocean town
The frozen days we set ablaze
Sent me drifting away
Like a butterfly, you floated by and now you're alone
I wish I knew when I'll be back again
So until then I wish you well
My dear Brielle

Strolling over the sand, and cobblestone paths that wind through the trees
And breathing the sweet forest air makes a bluebird aware that she could be free
When the new sights grow old and I start to feel cold I'll sail home again

Goodbye Brielle
Only whispers can tell
Of the sweet dreams that we knew so well
I'll see you around our dear ocean town
The frozen days we set ablaze
Sent me drifting away
Like a butterfly, you floated by and now you're alone
I wish I knew when I'll be back again
So until then I wish you well

So until then I wish you well
I love you my darling, farewell
My dear Brielle

It's sad, but it's beautiful. "World Spins Madly On" by The Weepies

Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
I thought of you and where you'd gone
and let the world spin madly on

Everything that I said I'd do
Like make the world brand new
And take the time for you
I just got lost and slept right through the dawn
And the world spins madly on

I let the day go by
I always say goodbye
I watch the stars from my window sill
The whole world is moving and I'm standing still

Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
The night is here and the day is gone
And the world spins madly on

I thought of you and where you'd gone
And the world spins madly on.

And here's a beautiful video to go with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBk3ynRbtsw

Re: Beautiful Songs

Hey, sang this hymn in church Sunday and it just fit me at the moment.
My favorite line was 'I've no cause for worry or for fear'. Also goes along with the book I wrote and I'm editing.
Read and be blessed:)

Day By Day

Day by day and with each passing moment,
strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best-
Lovingly, it's part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He whose name is Counselor and Power.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Him-self He laid;
As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,
This the pledge to me He make.

Help me then in every tribulation
So to trust The promises, O Lord,
That I lose no faith's sweet consolation
Offered me with-in Thy holy word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E're to take, as from a father's hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

I love Still by Hillsong. We sang it in Gospel Choir last year...

I also love Skyscraper, by Demi Lovato. And I'm posting the lyrics even though you probably already know them..

"Skyscraper"

Skies are crying
I am watching
Catching tear drops in my hands
Only silence
Has its ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to
Make me feel like
There's nothing left of me?

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

As the smoke clears
I awaken
And untangle you from me
Would it make you
feel better
to watch me while I bleed?
All my windows
Still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

Go run, run, run
I'm gonna stay right here
Watch you disappear
Yeah
Go run, run, run
Yeah, its a long way down
But I am closer to the clouds up here...

You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I'm made of glass
Like I'm made of paper
Oh, oh
Go on and
Try to tear me down
I will be rising form the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper
Oh, oh
Like a skyscraper

Re: Beautiful Songs

So I just saw Billy Elliot (for the 3rd time, I really love this musical way too much), and to anyone who hasn't seen it, watch the movie (It's rated R, but pretty much just for language and a few violent scenes and I think there is a PG-13 version too) and if possible go see the musical (it's on a national tour in the US right now, and it's playing in London and I think in Chicago? It just closed/is closing in New York). It's about two things: the miner's strike in England in the 80s (hence a couple violent scenes), and also a boy who wants to dance instead of take boxing. It's a really really amazing movie, and also the musical is amazing and yeah. Billy Elliot promotion over...

BUT! (The main point of this long ramble) the songs are amazing (I think there is only one song in there I don't absolutely love).

So: What I think are the most beautiful songs of the Musical:

DEEP INTO THE GROUND (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QpdMKYGnm8)

Oh once I was a young man
Looked over vales and hills
Saw myself a future
of riches and of thrills
But on me fifteenth birthday
I paid my union dues
And they sent me deep into the ground

Oh the winter wind can blow me colder
Oh the summer's heat can parch me dry
But I'll not leave here for a fortune
I shall never leave here till I die

Oh once I had a family
Sons to make you proud
They have gone and left me now,
And I count the time out loud
For now I am an old man
Just waiting for my turn
Till they take me back into the ground

Oh the winter wind can blow me colder
Oh the summer's heat can parch me dry
But I'll not leave here for a fortune
I shall never leave here till I die

Oh the winter wind can blow me colder
Oh the summer's heat can parch me dry
But I'll love these dark, dark hills forever
And I won't leave them until I die

Oh once I loved a woman
She meant all she world to me
Saw ourselves a future
As far as I could see
But I was only forty-seven
when they took her down from me
And buried her deep

Oh the winter wind can blow me colder
Oh the summer's heat can parch me dry
But I'll love these dark, dark hills forever
And I won't leave them now until I die

LETTER (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA2WfHJeOMY)

Dear Billy,
I must seem a distant memory
Which is probably a good thing
And it will have been a long, long time
And I will have missed you growing
And I'll have missed you crying
And I'll have missed you laugh

Missed your stamping and your shouting
I have missed telling you off
But please, Billy, know that I was always there
I was with you through everything

And please, Billy, know that I will always be
Proud to have known you
Proud that you were mine
Proud in everything
And you must promise me this, Billy
In everthing you do
Always be yourself, Billy
And you always will be true
Love you forever
Love you forever

Mam

ONCE WE WERE KINGS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9P_ZsCrqOk) (This one takes place at the end, so right after they lose the strike and ends with the miners going back underground, which you can hear at the end of the song)

Once we built visions on the ground we hewed
We dreamt of justice and of men renewed
All people equal, in all things
We once were heroes,
Once were kings
But all great things must come to pass
We know the first will soon be last
And in the ground we maybe lain
But a seed is sown to rise again

So we walk proudly
And we walk strong
All together
We will go atone
The ground is empty
And cold as hell
But we all go together when we go

We saw a land where wealth was shared
Each pain relieved, each hunger fed
Each man revered, each tyrant killed
Each soul redeemed, each life fulfilled

From each mats means to each his need
We saw a time man would be freed
We fought for all the things we saw
The battle's lost but not the war

So we walk proudly
And we walk strong
All together
We will go as one
The ground is empty
And cold as hell
But we all go together when we go
We will go down but our heads are proud
We will go down with our voices loud
We will go down but come again
And we all go together when we go
Ah... (3 times)
And we all go together when we go.

We walk proudly, and we walk strong
All together we will go as one
The ground is empty, and cold as hell
But we all go together when we go.

We walk proudly, and we walk strong
All together we will go as one
The ground is empty, and cold as hell
But we all go together when we go.

We walk proudly, and we walk strong
All together we will go as one
The ground is empty, and cold as hell
But we all go together when we go.

Christian Kane (who released his first album... can't really say last year anymore, but December, 2010) has a lot of beautiful songs off of The House Rules (Even if one is just a cover).

Thinking Of You
Let Me Go
Fast Car

If you watch Leverage, there was an episode titled The Studio Job, in which he played an acoustic version of Thinking Of You. There's a music video for Let Me Go, and it was #1 on CMT's list music videos for about a month.

Hm, I'm not so into Christian music (and taken literally the metaphors of the first song seem to have some sexist implications about marriage) but I can understand why someone who believes differently than I would like that stuff. It's certainly nice-sounding, at the least.

I'm surprised no one's put down Regina Spektor yet... o.O she always makes me really emotional in the best ways. I heard her song Eet in the mall today and I swear I almost started crying.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMEpaVL_WsU&amp;ob=av2e

I also really like Laughing With (if you listen it might be surprising that I like it, but... yeah. I think it's a very poignant picture of a very human reality; it's kind of hard to explain - at least briefly - what I like so much about it.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pxRXP3w-sQ&amp;feature=relmfu

And then On the Radio is also good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHAhnJbGy9M&amp;feature=relmfu

And there are a bunch more - Fidelity, Samson, the Call - if you decide you like her stuff, but I'll stop there for now so I don't fangirl too much. ^_^

Well, Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift, pretty much tops my list. But also, Home by Daughtry. It's more the sound then the lyrics, I think, so you really have to listen to get the idea.

Can I post another one? Hehe, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave...
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone,
All of my doubt,
Suddenly goes away somehow.

One step closer...

chorus
I have died everyday,
Waiting for you.
Darling don't be afraid,
I have loved you
For a thousand years.
I'll love you for a thousand more...

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is.
I will be brave
I will not let anything take
Away, what's standing in front of me.
Every breath, every hour
Has come to this...

One step closer...

chorus

And all along
I belived, I would find you.
Time has brought
Your heart to me
I have loved you
For a thousand years.
I'll love you for a thousand more...

One step closer
One step closer....

chorus
2nd chorus

this is one of my songs. i named it "inspire me again" after a dream that my older brother was killed.

You always had a helping hand
To offer when I needed it
When I had no ideas,
You had more
So sitting by your grave today
I'm asking you to leave it
Just one more time say
What you've said before

Inspire me again
I need the inspiration
Come back to life for just one simple song
You're every thing I need
You are the beauty of creation,
But without you life just cannot go on
Without you life just cannot go on.

I need you like i never did
When you were by my side
You taught me many things I can't recall
Come back and tell me how to live
To fill you up with pride
Oh just this once remind me of it all.

Inspire me again
I need the inspiration
Come back to life for just one simple song
You're every thing I need
You are the beauty of creation,
But without you life just cannot go on
Without you life just cannot go on.

Re: Beautiful Songs

"Losing Your Memory" by Ryan Star. It's incredibly sad and incredibly moving, but it's so slow and beautiful.

Lyrics:

Call all your friends
Tell them "I'm never coming back."
Cause this is the end.
Pretend that you want it.
Don't react,
The damage is done.
The police are coming too slow now.
I would have died,
"I would have loved you all my life"

You're losing your memory now (4x)

Where have you gone?
The beach is so cold in winter here.
And where have I gone?
I wake in Montauk with you near.
Remember the day,
Cause this is what dreams should always be.
I just want to stay,
I just want to keep this dream in me.

You're losing your memory now (3x)
You're losing your memory...

"Wake up, it's time, little girl, wake up."
All the best of what we've done is yet to come
"Wake up, it's time, little girl, wake up."
Just remember who I am in the morning.

You're losing your memory now (3x)
You're losing your memory...

You're losing your memory now (3x)
You're losing your memory...

Let's face it, at one point or another, we've all heard Judy Garland sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" in The Wizard of Oz. And we've also heard Louis Armstrong sing "What A Wonderful World". Yes, they are classics. But the greatest and most beautiful cover of these songs are by Israel Kamikawiwo'ole. It's just him and his ukelele.

Re: Beautiful Songs

Okay, I'm going to take this literally.

Beautiful Song- Abby Simons

This is a beautiful song
I wrote it just for you
But you say no no thanks,
So now I sing it to myself I do

This is a beautiful painting
I paint it just for you
But you say no no thanks,
So now I hang it on my wall I do

And I'm the sort of person who feels
Sorry for myself when the waves smash my sandcastle
And you're the sort of person, who does not

This is a beautiful morning
I'd like to spend it with you
But you say no no thanks
So I wake up on m own I do

And I'm the sort of person
Who covers my bases and makes silly faces
You're the sort of person, who does not

Doo do do do doo (doo do do do doo)
Doo do do do doo (doo do do do doo)

This is a beautiful feeling,
I feel it just for you
But you say no no thanks
So now I feel it all alone I do

And I'm the sort of person who feels
Sorry for myself when my bike hits the pavement

This is a beautiful song (this is a beautiful painting)
This is a beautiful morning (This is a beautiful day)
This is a beautiful feeling (This is a beautiful feeling)

You want a beautiful song? I'll give you two.

Remedy drive's, Single, All Along: Its not everything it seems - the world and its dreams
Slipping like water through my hands tonight
All the things I thought would fill me up inside
Left me empty here - and now I know why

All along I was looking for something else
Youre something else
All along I was looking for something more
Youre so much more
I finally found what I could never see before
Youve always been the one that I was looking for

All of my castles in the sand - washed away again
And Im left right where I began tonight
The only thing that can ever fill me up
Has been right in front of me all the time

All along I was looking for something else
Youre something else
All along I was looking for something more
Youre so much more
I finally found what I could never see before
Youve always been the one that I was looking for

I wont miss you - I wont miss you this time
I say I want you - yeah I want you in my life

All along I was looking for something more
Youre so much more

All along I was looking for something else
Youre something else
All along I was looking for something more
Youre so much more
I finally found what I could never see before
Youve always been the one that I was looking for

I finally found what I could never see before
Youve always been the one that I was looking for'

Need, Hana Pestle: i'm not quite sure how to breathe without you here. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to say goodbye to all we were. Be with me, stay with me, just for now. Let the time decide when I wont' need you. My hand searches for your hand in a dark room. I can't find you, help me, aren't you looking for me? Can I feel anymore? Lie to me, I'm fading. I can't drop you, tell me, I don't need you. My hand searches for your hand in a dark room. I can't find you, help me, are you looking for me? Etch this into my brain for me, tell me, how its supposed to be, where everything will go and how i'll be without you by my side. My hand searches for your hand in a dark room. I can't find you, help me, are you looking for me?

I just love this song....it's so sad! It's "I'm not that Girl", from Wicked.

Hands touch, eyes meet
Sudden silence, sudden heat
Hearts leap in a giddy whirl
He could be that boy
But I'm not that girl:
Don't dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember that rush of joy
He could be that boy I'm not that girl
Ev'ry so often we long to steal
To the land of what-might-have-been
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in
Blithe smile, lithe limb
She who's winsome, she wins him
Gold hair with a gentle curl
That's the girl he chose
And Heaven knows
I'm not that girl:
Don't wish, don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart
I wasn't born for the rose and the pearl
There's a girl I know
He loves her so
I'm not that girl

Re: Beautiful Songs

Ellie Goulding and Kate Nash. I love my Brits.

Kate's "Nicest Thing" is really pretty. Sad, but pretty.

All I know is that you're so nice
You're the nicest thing I've seen
I wish that we could give it a go
See if we could be something

I wish I was your favourite girl
I wish you thought I was the reason you are in the world
I wish my smile was your favourite kind of smile
I wish the way that I dressed was your favourite kind of style

I wish you couldn't figure me out
But you always wanna know what I was about
I wish you'd hold my hand
When I was upset
I wish you'd never forget
The look on my face when we first met

I wish you had a favourite beauty spot
That you loved secretly
'Cause it was on a hidden bit
That nobody else could see
Basically, I wish that you loved me
I wish that you needed me
I wish that you knew when I said two sugars,
Actually I meant three

I wish that without me your heart would break
I wish that without me you'd be spending the rest of your nights awake
I wish that without me you couldn't eat
I wish I was the last thing on your mind before you went to sleep

Look, all I know is that you're the nicest thing I've ever seen
And I wish that we could see if we could be something
Yeah I wish that we could see if we could be something

Also, "You Are the Moon" by The Hush Sound

Shadows all around you as you surface from the dark
Emerging from the gentle grip of night's unfolding arms
Darkness, darkness, everywhere, do you feel alone?
The subtle grace of gravity, the heavy weight of stone.

You don't see what you possess, a beauty calm and clear
It floods the sky and blurs the darkness, like a chandelier
All the light that you possess is skewed by lakes and seas
The shattered surface, so imperfect, is all that you believe

I will bring a mirror, so silver, so exact
So precise and so pristine, a perfect pane of glass
I will set the mirror up to face the blackened sky
You will see your beauty every moment that you rise

Perhaps these songs are a bit distracting for writing, but I like:
Knives and Pens- Black Veil Brides
The Legacy- Black Veil Brides
Monster- Skillet
Lithium- Evanescence
Sail- AWOLNation

Re: Beautiful Songs

Ooh, I like Monster to. :)

Here's a song I LOVE, from "The Scarlet Pimpernel". I just got to see this musical last month, and it was AMAZING!!
So this is sung by a guy (duh) to the girl he was (is) in love with. But she married another guy, and he wants her back...anyway. It's a sweet song.

I remember days full of restlessness and fury
I remember nights that were drunk on dreams
I remember someone who hungered for the glory
I remember her, but it seems she's gone

Where's the girl? Where's the girl with the blaze in her eyes?
Where's the girl with that gaze of surprise?
Now and then I still dream she's beside me

Where's the girl who could turn on the edge of a knife?
Where's the girl who was burning for life?
I can still feel her breathing beside me

And I know she remembers how fearless it feels
To take off with the wind at her heels
She and I took this world like a storm
Come again!
Let the girl in your heart tumble free
Bring your renegade heart home to me
In the dark of the morning, I'll warm you
I'll rouse you

Marguerite, don't forget I know who you are
We were cut from the same surly star
Like two jewels in the sky sharing fire

Where's the girl so alive and still aching for more?
We had dreams that were worth dying for
We were caught in the eye of a storm
Come again!
Let the girl in your heart tumble free
Bring your renegade heart home to me
In the dark of the morning, I'll warm you
I'll rouse you

Where's the girl?
Is she gazing at me with surprise?
Do I still see that blaze in her eyes?
Am I dreaming, or is she beside me now?

But please do it right and listen to the version with the poem at the end. In fact, just listen to Days Of Future Past from beginning to end (Great album).

Re: Beautiful Songs

This is a song that is being paired with the most beautiful duet danced by two of the most beautiful, emotional contemporary dancers I know, and choreographed by the most expressive teenage choreographer I know for our company's performances next week. I seriously cry when I watch them do this dance, because it's so amazing, but so much of it is just how powerful the song is, so here it is.

A Case of You – (cover I know: James Blake, originally: Joni Mitchell)

Just before our love got lost, you said
"I am as constant as the Northern Star"
And I said, "Constantly in the darkness
Where's that at? If you want me I'll be at the bar"

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada, oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice

You're in my blood, you're my holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those who ain't afraid

I remember that time you told me
"Love was touching souls" but surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out in me
In these lines from time to time

You're in my blood, you're my holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

I met a woman, she had a mouth like yours
She knew your life, she knew your devils
And your deeds, and she said
"Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed"

You're in my blood, you're my holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

I discovered this song by watching some wolf tributes. I love wolves to death and they are my Patronus, just FYI.
Here's the link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1aCzqxAsPQ

This world will never be what I expected
And if I don't belong who would have guessed it
I will not leave alone everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late, it's never too late

Even if I say it'll be alright
Still I hear you say you want to end your life
Now and again we try to just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late

No one will ever see this side reflected
And if there's something wrong who would have guessed it?
And I have left alone everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late, it's never too late

Even if I say it'll be alright
Still I hear you say you want to end your life
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/t/three-days-grace-lyrics/never-too-late-lyrics.html ]
Now and again we try to just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late

The world we knew won't come back
The time we've lost can't get back
The life we had won't be ours again

This world will never be what I expected
And if I don't belong

Even if I say it'll be alright
Still I hear you say you want to end your life
Now and again we try to just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late

Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late
It's not too late, it's never too late

Re: Beautiful Songs

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but here goes. One of my favourite songs at the moment is "Riverside" by Agnes Obel. She has a lovely voice, I think, and I have a sort of obsession with depressing songs. XD

Down by the river, by the boats

where everybody goes to be alone,

where you won't see any rising sun,

down to the river we will run.

When by the water we drink to the dregs,

look at the stones on the riverbed.

I can tell from your eyes

you've never been by the riverside.

Down by the water, the riverbed,

somebody calls you, somebody says,

swim with the current and float away.

Down by the river every day.

Oh my God, I see how everything is torn in the river deep.

And I don't know why I go the way

down by the riverside.

When that old river runs past your eyes

to wash off the dirt on the riverside,

go to the water so very near.

The river will be your eyes and ears.

I walk to the borders on my own,

fall in the water just like a stone.

Chilled to the marrow in them bones.

Why do I go here all alone?

Oh my God, I see how everything is torn in the river deep.

And I don't know why I go the way

Down by the riverside.

Oh my God, I see how everything is torn in the river deep.

And I don't know why I go the way

down by the riverside.

Down by the riverside.

Down by the riverside.

Re: Beautiful Songs

Lucy-Skillet

Hey Lucy, I remember your name
I left a dozen roses on your grave today
I'm in the grass on my knees, wipe the leaves away
I just came to talk for a while, got some things I need to say

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all the world to see
That little piece of Heaven looking back at me

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I've gotta live with the choices I made
And I can't live with myself today

Hey Lucy, I remembered your birthday
They said it'd bring some closure to say your name
I know I'd do it all different if I had the chance
But all I got are these roses to give
And they can't help me make amends

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all the world to see
That little piece of Heaven looking back at me

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I've gotta live with the choices I made
And I can't live with myself today

Here we are, now you're in my arms
I never wanted anything so bad
Here we are for a brand new start
Living the life that we could've had

Me and Lucy walking hand in hand
Me and Lucy never wanna end
Just another moment in your eyes
I'll see you in another life in Heaven
Where we never say goodbye

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all the world to see
That little piece of Heaven looking back at me

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I've gotta live with the choices I made
And I can't live with myself today

Here we are, now you're in my arms
Here we are for a brand new start
I got to live with the choices I've made
And I can't live with myself today

Me and Lucy walking hand in hand
Me and Lucy never wanna end
I've got to live with the choices I've made
And I can't live with myself today

Hey Lucy, I remember your name

I Will be Here, by Steven Curtis Chapman

Tomorrow morning if you wake up
And the sun does not appear,
I will be here.

If in the dark we lose sight of love,
Hold my hand and have no fear,
‘Cause I will be here.

CHORUS
I will be here when you feel like being quiet;
When you need to speak your mind, I will listen.
And I will be here when the laughter turns to crying;
Through the winning, losing, and trying, we’ll be together,
‘Cause I will be here.

Tomorrow morning if you wake up
And the future is unclear,
I will be here.

As sure as seasons are made for change,
Our lifetimes are made for years,
So I will be here.

CHORUS
I will be here, so you can cry on my shoulder;
When the mirror tells us we’re older, I will hold you.
And I will be here to watch you grow in beauty,
And tell you all the things you are to me;
I will be here.

I will be true to the promise I have made,
To you and to the One who gave you to me.

As sure as seasons are made for change,
Our lifetimes are made for years,
So I, I will be here.
We'll be together and i will be here.

Howl by Florence and the Machine is pretty beautiful (but what isn't beautiful when Flo sings/writes it?) :

"If you could only see the beast you've made of me /
I held it in the dark but now it seems you've set it running free /
Screaming in the dark, I howl when we're apart /
I drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart."

And another one, Rogue Hearts from Dragon Age II, is really pretty but the lyrics aren't really human, but video game Elvish...

Re: Beautiful Songs

I love this song. It's called "May I" by Trading Yesterday.

And there you stand open heart - open doors
Full of life with the world that's wanting more
But I can see when the lights starts to fade
The day is done and your smile has gone away

Let me raise you up
Let me be your love

May I hold you
As you fall to sleep
When the world is closing in
And you can't breathe
May I love you
May I be your shield
When no one can be found
May I lay you down

All I want is to keep you safe from the cold
To give you all that your heart needs the most

Let me raise you up
Let me be your love

May I hold you
As you fall to sleep
When the world is closing in
And you can't breathe
May I love you
May I be your shield
When no one can be found
May I lay you down

All that's made me, (made me)
It's all worth trading (worth trading)
Just to have one moment with you
So I will let go (let go)
of all that I know (that I know)
Knowing that you're here with me

For your love is changing me

May I hold you
As you fall to sleep
When the world is closing in
And you can't breathe
May I love you
May I be your shield
When no one can be found
May I lay you down

Re: Beautiful Songs

So I'm back with some beautifully tragic songs (but this time they're from RENT which makes them 10x better than the usual).

I'd like to start by saying that anybody who hasn't seen RENT is severely missing out on everything good in life. It's actually playing in New York right now (off-Broadway, which means it's cheaper and in a smaller, more intimate theater), but if you can't just go to NYC on a whim (which, let's face it, few of us can. I wish I could. There is so much playing right now that I want to see...), there's also a movie of it that has pretty close to the original cast.

Also, as a warning, this musical does have a few moments referencing sexual acts. I didn't find it offensive. My younger sister didn't find it offensive. Nobody has sex on stage. It's rated PG-13 in the U.S. and PG in Canada. It had a lot less cussing than Billy Elliot, and Billy Elliot is a musical that was designed with children as part of the designated audience. But I know that some people on here are pretty conservative. Honestly though, if you need to, just pretend Joanne is a guy because this is a musical/film that everybody should see for the pure beauty of it. Also, the emotional rollar coaster of it. You might not approve of the characters and their lifestyles, but the show is worth it.

ANYWAY!

The finale (Finale B) (No Day But Today) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvkKuqB6u4E) is amazingly beautiful, but also sad, but also somehow uplifting. I don't know how it works. I'm always crying too much by that point to care.

Here's a sample of lyrics. The context is that a character who has AIDS has just woken up after nearly dying, said she saw a friend of the group who had died recently and told her to go back to them. So she's alive for now, but they know she's close to the end of her life.

"I can't control
My destiny
I trust my soul
My only hope
is just to be"

And my current obsession from RENT is Without You, which I think is just one of the most beautiful love songs of all time, and also one of the most perfect songs about grief and loss, because it so perfectly captures those emotions, and it's helped me through a lot. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyS1XH3E34s). Here's a sample of lyrics...

"Without you, The ground thaws
The rain falls, The grass grows

Without you, the seeds root
The flowers bloom, The children play

The stars gleam, The poets dream
The eagles fly without you

The earth turns, The sun burns
But I die without you"

The song 'Video Game Books' by Hank Green is... amazing. It made me cry so much. It's written about John Green's book <em>The Fault in Our Stars</em>, and will admittedly not be nearly as perfect if you haven't read the book.

We all can dream of blazing glories
But all I dream of now is you and your blue eyes
It’s strange to think how we can feel we don’t live our own lives
And I wasn’t sure about my own but now I’m feeling fine

Your video game books
They might get me funny looks
But Staff Sergeant Max Mayhem gets me hot
And I’m starting to see
Not just what you want from me
But what you want to get from what you’ve got

Now what do you think you’re gonna be
You think you’ll leave some kind of lasting mark
But with infinite tomorrows, and no this isn’t fair,
No one gets remembered
But right now I just don’t care

Your video game books
They might get me funny looks
But Staff Sergeant Max Mayhem gets me hot
And I’m starting to see
Not just what you want from me
But what you want to get from what you’ve got
There’s not a lot
Of amputee heroes in history

I wish our lives were so much simpler
And I hope you get to have your moment in the fight
And no one ever gets to be
Quite who they wanted to be
But you wanted to matter, boy
Well, you mattered to me

Your video game books
They might get me funny looks
But Staff Sergeant Max Mayhem gets me hot
And I’m starting to see
Not just what you want from me
But what you want to get from what you’ve got
There’s not a lot
Of amputee heroes in history
But I’ve got one sitting right in front of me

Rewrite by Paul Simon. It's a great song.

I've been working on my rewrite (that's right),
Gonna change the ending
Gonna throw away the title
And toss it in the trash

Every minute after midnight
All the time I'm spending
Is just for working on my rewrite
Gonna turn it into cash.
