For those who are typing what font do you use? Do you use the default of your writing program or a fancy one? or maybe you made a custom font? I'm using Old English currently.

I use the standard Cambria, but my main characters have been writing notes back and forth, so I've been using different fonts for their handwriting.

Times New Roman, usually. Sometimes I change it to something else on a whim for a certain story -- I have one sitting around using Georgia, for example. So far this year's has Time New Roman though. I'm so predictable and boring. :)

Georgia 12 pt. I like serif fonts for writing fiction, but not TNR because it makes me feel like I'm writing a paper for high school. Georgia is a pleasant balance of something new, but still a serif. Of course I'll probably have to change it down the line for publisher's requirements, but that's a long time away.

I'm using Euphemia 14pt in FocusWriter. It's a beautifully clean sans-serif font and it's spaced a bit widely like Courier New (though not as drastic!). It helps my old (hah! I'm 24. I just have crummy vision) eyes.

I'm using google docs right now which limits font choice ... Cambria 11pt. I'll waste time I could be using to write later hunting down some cool font to use on my laptop at home .... and then stop using it after two pages because my eyes hurt.

Cochin 14pt. I'd never used it before, but it seems to be the Scrivener default, and I decided I liked it. I'm also blind as a bad, hence the larger size, although Scriv seems to display fonts very small.

Wow, after the first page I was beginning to wonder if there were any other large font size users out there. We're a minority, aren't we? I use Times New Roman (the default—not what I prefer but I forgot to change it and now I'm used to seeing it) at 14. I not only like to be able to see my writing perfectly, but I also like to delude myself into believing I've written more than I have. :)

Tahoma, 12 point. I've been using this font for at least 4 years now and I love it. Much neater than my handwriting! I do like to use a few different fonts for notes and special sections in the chapters, but otherwise I'm loyal to Tahoma, lol.

Using Apple Garamond, 12 pt. Mostly because I saw it, thought, "Oooh, apples...", downloaded it, and then decided it was rather pretty without being too distracting. I realize now that "Apple" is probably referring to the electronics chain, but who cares? Apples are amazing anyway and it makes me happy to be writing in a font with the word "apple" in its title.

When I'm done I'll switch it all over to standard manuscript format for editing, but if Neil Gaiman writes in only certain brands of red and green ink, if J.K. Rowling demands a particular type of notebook, certainly I can write in the format that pleases me.

I'm doing a great deal of my nano in Google Docs and I think Cambria 14pt looks best on a larger screen. Since I've started reading on a Kindle, my brain has really gotten into the minimalist page view look. Back in my Windows days I was always a Times New Roman writer. I don't know why, but when writing stories, I find sanserif fonts are too modern looking. If I was writing something like a tech-manual I'd be using Ubuntu (the font, not the operating system from which it comes) as it's a really pleasing sanserif. As an aside, as this seems to be the House of Typography, I recommend a documentary called "Helvetica" if you have not seen it, it's available on Netflix. Detailed history of that typeface, mucho interesting to typeheads.

TNR 12, double-spaced. I used to write with Arial or Tahoma using 1.5 line spacing (rather than double), but then I had to fix an entire manuscript to submit part of it for a writing competition (which required TNR 12 double-spaced, no exceptions), so I decided to save myself some work. TNR 12/DS seems to be the norm for at least part of the literary industry, so I figure on this I'll go with the flow.

Cochin 10pt. It's a beautiful serif font, a bit like Palatino. In my head, serif fonts are for fiction and sans-serif fonts are for work (business writing, press releases, blogs). Who knows what would happen if I tried to write a whole novel in a sans-serif font?! The trials of typography OCD :\

Ditto there. c: I love that font, its just so clean. I use it on 11, but I have my pages zoomed to 140% so I can re-read and see it comfortably with either eye while I recline XD And yeah, its super clean so even if I didn't have it /that/ huge I could still make out most of it.

Now that I'm no longer using google docs, I can choose a font just because I like it. Alice (from Google Webfonts), 14pt, double spacing. I just prefer serif fonts :x

I usually use Palatino Linotype or Trebuchet MS, but this time I decided to go for a change and I'm using DejaVu Sans Condensed, 12pt with 1.5cm margins (I like my margins thin!).

I'm using Andalus 8pt. I find it gives the writing a more unique look, and so I wont be tempted to go back and read too often. Sometimes I switch off to Californian Fb. Fonts are so important to me xD

Times New Roman, 12. The automatic font for (at least my version of) Open Office. I used to write using the wackiest fonts and colors and EVERYTHING IN 18p! but I just can't do that anymore. I've settled down. XD Occasionally I still use different fonts, usually a version of Copperplate, if I'm putting in an old-fashioned sign or something, but usually I just make it BOLD AND ALL CAPS in the middle of a sentence. Still, I downloaded a few shmancy new fonts a few months ago, so I should probably do something with them…

I always use Georgia at 11pt, and I use a gray font because I can't write as well with black font. It's weird, I know, but needed.

Veranda Size 12 Years and countless hours of reading the font at FF.net has made it the easiest to deal with on my eyes. That and Lucida Console from working in notepad so much.

I like to change it around to keep my eyeballs from getting buggy, but right now I'm using Franklin Gothic Book, 10pt. I also keep anything before the last three paragraphs (or so) in wingdings so I'm less tempted to edit.

Hoefler Text 10pt. Usually I just stick with whatever the word-processing program's defaults are (usually Times New Roman or Arial), but for NaNoWriMo I thought I'd try something different. Well, a bit different, anyway.

Didot in purple (it's actually a dark purple so it doesn't annoy my eyes) and Helvetica in black. 12 pt. I have two first person narrators so it helps me differentiate when I first open up the file to know who's talking.

Erm, yeah, sorry about that! (I presume you were referring to me? Sorry if not!) I thought the screen name would be a laugh when I first created it, but now it's a little bit cumbersome, especially as I couldn't put spaces in or I would've gone over the 60-character username limit. But Commander Shepard and Mass Effect are still awesome, and thank you :-)

Lately I've been using Constantia and Bookman Old Style, 14-point. Easier on my old eyes. Or maybe I could just wear my glasses. But I think my author portrait looks better without them.

VERDANA. Size 12 :P I don't know why, but I love it. It just looks so... organized, neat and cool. Also, it's kinda big (for it's size) and easy to read. It also looks... I dunno.... professional? The only thing I hate is sometimes it crushes 'c' s and 'o' s together so it's hard to read. But I haven't had that happen in AGES. Verdana...

TNR, twelve point (default, and I'm too lazy to change it), but when I'm writing with my MC#2, I use Consolas Italic, size 12. It's almost like my handwriting used to be, so I love it.

Georgia size13. Discovered it a year ago and can't go back now :D But, that's usually when I'm editing and/or writing a long piece of work. Short pieces and poetry, I go with the default Arial size12 and the final edit is in Bell size12-13 (depending on what I feel like that day!).

I used to use Times New Roman 12, but with Office 2010 the default setting seems to be Calibri 11 and I must admit that I like it a lot. My 2011 NaNo also had the odd bit of Chiller in it - surprisingly convincing font for bad handwriting when you have to make do with the default fonts that come with Office.

For my Animal Farm related story I'm using Book Antiqua 12. For my original story I'm using Garamond but I'm thinking of changing it to a darker font because I wear glasses and the darker font may make it easier on my eyes. But it may not be Book Antiqua 12. Maybe it'll be a different font size or a different font like Day Roman or something.

I use Segoe Print, size 11, or Verdana, size 10-12. I use sans-serif fonts in general, especially since Times New Roman makes me want to tear out my eyes when it comes to fiction. Maybe it's because I've written so many school papers in that font that I needed a way to distinguish business from pleasure. xD That and I occasionally use Comic Sans just to make sure that no one will look over my shoulder to read it. I then change it to the fonts I usually use when they go away. For title headers, I get way fancier, and the titles are the only thing I break my "sans-serif yay" rule.

I tend to use Comic Sans 12 pt or Rockwell. I'll pretty much use moset of them, depending on what I'm writing but I CAN'T STAND Times New Roman and I avoid it like the plague! :-)
