I feel for you. And I really, really don't get why people don't understand that it's a reward in itself to be able to churn out a novel. Where do they think novels come from? Do they think every person who writes a novel get prizes just for writing them? When I tell (non-writing) people that I don't care if I've written a bad novel at the end of November, they look at me like I'm a bit crazy. And when I try to explain concepts like "writing practice" and "editing" their eyes just glaze over... Luckily I have a few friends who're actually doing it this year too, as well as my older sister, and my family is very supportive, even if they think I'm a little strange (in a good way!). Also, it's the most fun I've had in ages, and I think the people that care about me finds that to be the best part about the whole thing (I suffer from bipolar depression, and November is usually a difficult month for me).
