You may have noticed a tab in your profile called Writing Buddies. Writing buddies are people you either want to keep track of, motivate you, help you out, or are even real life friends. Some people buddy writers they want to compete against. Some buddy people they admire or whose stories they like.

Writing buddies are many things to many people.

A lot of people ask, "How do I get Writing Buddies?" Well, here's your answer: you ask! Use this thread to post your writing buddy requests. It helps to introduce yourself a little, talk about what sort of stories you write, and what you're looking for in a writing buddy.

Be sure and check out your genre lounges and NaNo Groups forums... many of these forums will have additional, more specialized writing buddy request threads.

Hello!! :D:D
My name is Elin (call me Elin, Ell-chan, Hotaru, Ellie(In any spelling) or anything that you think may fit (I am being called mom by a friend)) And I am a 15 (16 in a month) year old from Sweden. I am a fulltime (with to little time) student who overuse parantheses and don't have a job. I spend my free time reading and writing random stuff in my notebooks during lectures and I draw a lot. I am very fond of Asian culture and my favorite band is currently the K-pop band SHINee.
I draw a lot in manga/anime style but I'm still learning (you can find my works here: http://hotaru-girl.deviantart.com/)

Hello!

My name is Cyr, or Viva, and I'm twenty-years old college student studying a double major biomedical engineering and biotechnology. I have been doing NaNo for the last three years now, this being my fourth, and every NaNo I've done has been completed in a different country (Brazil, Scotland, Spain, and now the United States). Although I was originally born in Chicago, I've spent more time abroad than in the United States. I've lived in many different countries: Spain, Brazil, Croatia, Scotland, England to name a few, and visited countless others. I speak three languages fluently and bits and bobs of others.

I work as a Phlebotomist (exciting, I know) and go to school full time. Outside of school, work, and NaNo, I have a horse named Chase. I ride three-day eventing and I give lessons to people of all ages. (: I also enjoy art, radio production, reading, hiking, and blogging (my NaNo blog is at: http://halteclaire.livejournal.com)

I'm a very eager writer and look forward to this event every year. I'd love to have a writing buddy with whom I can exchange excerpts (if you're willing to share), ping-pong ideas off of eachother, and just sort of chat about how the writing is going. Send me a private message and we can exchange contact information. ^^

Cheers,
Cyr

I am open to being a writing buddy; there is a certain camaraderie among aspiring writers that I find personally inspiring. I am a middle-aged gent who at one time dreamed of being a professional cartoonist (I am that, for myself) so getting involved with this project is taking a big leap, to say the least. I may not make it to deadline (my word count is abysmal right now) but I'm having a gas making the attempt. I love writing plays but novel writing demands a different discipline; it's easy to get stuck in the mire of words and repetitive phrases.
It's good to be among so many other hopeful novel writers!

Hi everyone!
I'd love to have a few writing buddies. I'm a 19 year old girl who loves reading, writing, drawing, photography and music.
I'm really into fantasy but also Sci-Fi. At the moment I'm living in England working as an au pair, taking an English course and taking a full time distance course to be a Web Designer. Busy huh? And yes I would be mad to also take on the challenge of NaNoWriMo, but that's exactly what I'm gonna do!

This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo, and I have absolutely no idea of how it's gonna turn out, but I'm really looking forward to it. I found the site by accident and now I'm super excited to try it out! Iv'e always wanted to write a novel, and have loads of different beginnings to novels, but for some reason I seem to get stuck there and never quite find the time to write anything more to it. Also I find it really hard to move on with my writing unless it sounds just perfect, and well it hardly ever does, especially not the first time. So I think this is just what I need - actually having a deadline for the novel and just keep writing without editing it.

I haven't quite decided what my novel is to be about. I've got about three ideas and I'm still choosing between them, trying to figure out which one would be the best to use. However they're all fantasy and maybe a bit of Sci-Fi. In the end I might just end up writing whatever I feel like at the moment, but I'm at least gonna try do some planning for it. As I found the site only about two weeks ago I haven't had much time to prepare.

I'd love to have writing buddies whom I could discuss ideas with, maybe exchange a few excerpts with and give each other feedback on, and just generally chat about how the writing is going. I'm what quite a few people would refer to as a 'geek', and I tend to think geeks are far more interesting people than 'non-geeks', so a few awesomely geeky writing buddies sounds just right! But of course you're welcome to contact me whoever you are!

It might be worth mentioning that English isn't my native language (I'm Swedish). However I attended IB and have a certificate stating that I am bilingual, so my English isn't bad, but not perfect either.

Hoping to hear from you!

My stories are very character-driven, and I'd like to think I'm quite a diverse writer - I'll write in various tenses, styles and genres - but my favourite is probably fantasy.

Wow! I have an aunt in Bangor! It's my third year too, and I like to write various genre!
On the other hand I have to get my book done by the end of the month, and it's much longer than 50,000 so I get almost no time to lift my bleeding little stumps from the keyboard except to go to the gym or take the dogs out, so I wouldn't make much of a buddy! I'm working on the sequel to one that's coming out in December (if the formatter gets a move on) and it has to come out in June next year, which doesn't leave me lot's of time.
Anyway, it's lovely to see you and all the others here.

My given name is Eric, people call me Paul and my nickname is Squirrel. Although not everybody knows that because I often don't tell them. I tried this last year and didn't get very far. Not to be discouraged I'm giving it another go. I didn't participate in the forums last year so perhaps that led to my downfall. I'm going for more socially active this time around and hope it gets me further than 20 pages.

Let's see, more about me. My arch enemy is those squiggly red and green lines in Word. I know very well I should turn all manner of electronic checking off but I'm such a perfectionist. Heaven forbid I have to many passive and fragmented sentences. Sadly I can get hung up writing and rewriting a single sentence for an hour. Sure it might turn out to be a really good sentence but time is money and I'm broke. Right now I promise you anonymous person, never again! This novel will be as raw as a well smacked bottom with errors galore.

I live in the Chicago suburbs with my partner and our kids. I enjoy dressing up as a vampire in my spare time and playing with other people dressed similarly. It's called live action role playing and it's a lot of fun. This novel to be is going to be concerning gender and sexuality and the act of transcending both. Nothing serious however because I enjoy irony and sarcasm more than I enjoy changing the hearts and minds of the world. Add me as a buddy and I'll be exactly as annoying and pestering as you want me to be.

Hey, all! I'm a twenty-one-year-old residing in the USA. I typically go by 'Valk' on the net and I'm trying like crazy to get an original novel published, but my muse hates me. So, instead, I'm working on a Final Fantasy fanfiction for NaNo.

I love Final Fantasy like nobody's business and write several on fanfiction.net. Check out my work here: fanfiction.net/~ObsessiveCompulsiveValkyrie. I can honestly say I've played every Final fantasy except XII and the two online exclusives, but I have only successfully beaten V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX. I play plenty of other games, listen to all kinds of music, and am currently trying to train myself in ambidexterity and Korean. If anybody speaks the language and wouldn't mind helping me learn, that would be fantastic.

Feel free to buddy me, but I may not be the best at kicking you into gear. I do have a few buddies, but more are always welcome. Reply or send me a PM if you're interested in being my friend!

I'm Rachel- this is my second Nanowrimo and I'm hoping to actually finish it this time round! I'm 21 and growing up very fast, always philosophizing and trying to imagine my future. My future is supposed to look like teaching high school, but I don't know how content I am with that vision. I am someone with lots of responsibility on their shoulders every day, and I ultimately like being busy, but sometimes I ask myself why I'm in college when I could be kickin it at the riverside with some dogs and a lawn chair and maybe a radio.

Speaking of visions, I had none for this wrimo. I laid in bed last night and couldn't get fairies off my mind, so needless to say, I'm doing a thing about fairies. It has very little direction. I'd like to buddy up with someone, anyone really, just for the sake of having buddies. So if you want to have someone to keep track of or talk to or wrimo-socialize with, I'm around!

Hey Nanoers!
I am Robin, 47 and a new farmer in Central Virginia. This is my fifth year doing Nanowrimo. Pleased to say I crossed the finish line on all four previous attempts, though I never actually finished my novels, which tend to be multi-volume historical sagas. So this year, I'm leaving Vikings and rebel colonists behind in favor of the things that now rule my life: Chickens! Part memoir, part how not to book. Really, just the absurd adventures of a suburbanite who thinks "Green Acres is the place to be!" Unless of course, it's time to go to band practice. I play clarinet in a couple of community bands. Yet strangely, I don't listen to music much anymore. I'm a work-at-home mom of three kids 13-18 and happily married for 20 years come December.

Looking for a buddy who is suspicious of and likes to poke fun at anyone from the government or those who wear white lab coats. Bring your sense of humor, but leave your erotica. I see enough farm animal sex on a daily basis. Don't want to read about it.

Before I moved to the farm, I read a lot. Mostly non-fiction, but I also love Dumas, Tolkein, Eddings, Butcher, C.S. Lewis, Jasper Fforde. Now when I read, it's either seed catalogs or animal husbandry or how to build stuff I don't have but need and can't afford. Life is very practical here on the fuzzy edge of the map where radio stations fade and GPS gets lost.

May the muse be with you all!

How can I locate a writing buddy who would answer some basic questions about how to use my WriteWay or my Scrivener? When I couldn't make one work, I tried the Other. Couldn't make that work either. Help! Tonight after a third full day of trying, I just gave up and went to Open Office. I was worried about how to do word count. That just got answered by Moon Momma.

Two of those lost days were spent going over the interactive tutorials. It's little how-to's I need help with. Anyone who's writing with one of them should be able to answer easily?

My life revolves around my mind, music, and writing. I'm a freshman in high school, who procrastinates like it's her job.
I adore complex, difficult to grasp story lines, but find them rather hard to come by, which inspired me to write some on my own. Unfortunately, I'm not quite that good yet.
I have a tendency to forget things or loose interest in them. I have ADD, and am currently (unsuccessfully, i might add) being treated.
I love to write about gritty, raw topics that make people turn away in disgust, but come back for more, along with fantasy settings and princesses and all that jazz.
i also have a tendency to ramble and use weak language when I'm not writing a story.

I'm currently working on a novel, which will be put on hold during the month of November. The plan right now is that both novels (my NaNoWriMo novel and my current project) will tie into one another, so I'm sure this will be a very productive month.

(Was seeing Lightman on my profile a turn-off? haha)

I've got a much stronger scientific background than I do a literary one (I recently just switched to English/History from Neuroscience), and I've been more interested in reading his essays / works of non-fiction. The ones I've read are all great, particularly "A Sense of the Mysterious"... I enjoy reading from someone who's as passionate about science as he is about art! Having read a few of his essays, I'd say I read "Einstein's Dreams" a little differently the next time around.

A friend recommended "Song of two worlds" (his poetry book), so I'm looking into reading that next.

Hi there. I'm looking for a writing buddy since I'm also new to NaNo. I write historical fiction with a lean towards the Civil War era. I love to read historical fiction, from about the 1400's to the Depression era. I'm looking for someone to help me be accountable as well as someone to bounce ideas off of. Writing and getting published is a dream I've been wanting to fulfill since I was a child. I've been dabbling in stories and love to people watch whereby I make up stories about that particular person and imagine them in different scenarios.

I work part-time as a dietary aide in a nursing home and am really hoping and striving to get this book submitted to Harlequin's Historical Line by January. I'm up for this challenge.

Hi Penciljunkie68!

Your story sounds really intriguing! I Have never written a Civil War novel, but I did write a series of 12 short storeis set in the civil war era... they were not interrealated, all different characters and settings, but each focused on a "people" aspect of the war.... not the battles and victories and losses, but the soldiers and the wives and the children and the slaves and the sisters and the mothers... the way the war affected the people, the day to day struggles, the loves, the losses, and the courage it took to survive that time in history. The series was one of my favorite writing projects. I love that you "people watch" and make up scenarios... each of my Civil War stories was inspired by a person I met or saw at Civil War reenactments... I'd go with a notebook and a sketch pad and search for an interesting face; someone in period dress that looked as if they could have lived a civil war story, and then I would go home and write it (it also didn't hurt the writing mojo to wander around near a mock civil war battlefield while wearing a hoopskirt for a couple of hours! LOL!!!!!) I'd love to buddy up with you if you'd like!

Heya! This is my first time doing NaNo since starting college. I'm 21 years old, and in a strange limbo between Junior- and Senior-hood. I've studied English, Japanese, and a bunch of other stuff too.

I'm usually pretty chill about writing during NaNo, since I can usually count on a seasonal writing addiction to push me into churning out a few thousand words every day or two. (And now I have to wonder if Seasonal Writing Addiction is a real thing, haha.)

Anyway, feel free to message me if you're interested!

I grew up twenty miles from D.C. with malls and Targets near by. The closes Target/Mall is 30 minutes away. It is quite sad. So I'm stuck in this small town, just writing my life away.

I am looking for a good few buddies who are willing to either use email or skype and will help to push me along in my writing process. In turn, I will do the same. My proposed novel is a crime thriller / social commentary on revenge, justice and forgiveness.
I live in British Columbia, Canada
Hope to get in contact once the Writing Buddy application is up and running.
Cheers,
Trish

Hi I am Megan, I live in the USA, from North Carolina. I am 21 years old and this is my 3rd time participating in NaNo. I write fantasy/adventure/young adult works. Would love to have some writing buddies considering I am the only one I know in my circle doing NaNo!

Hello my fellow NaNo'ers. This is my millionth, so it seems, NaNo, and I've won only one. But that is due to my lack of anything to write about. That year of win was plain luck and doing way tooooo many Word Wars. (Finishing in 11 days sort of defeats the purpose of the rest of the month, even though I hadn't finished the story yet).

Anyway! I am in Maryland, college student, and really need the push to keep writing. Or to even find a plot. That's what I have trouble with. A plot or a title to work off of. The rest I just let flow from my fingers, no matter how stupid it all sounds!

I love keeping in touch with fellow writers, and I love love doing word wars. (see above reason for winning in 09).

My name is Veronica and I'm turning sixteen in December. I'm a sophomore in high school and I live in Connecticut. This is my first year doing Nano and I could really use a buddy who's got a real good hang of how the whole thing works, to keep me motivated and serious about this project because I very much so want to complete it but I don't have too much faith in myself.
I have yet to decide on a topic for my novel but I have a few ideas bumbling around in my head. I will probably end up writing something YA-ish, considering that's my own age group and what I read most often. I want a buddy who would like to talk often about our insane decision to partake in Nano. :P

Hey I'm Denise...or you can call me Stickee, I respond to that too. You can find my bio on my author page thing, if you want to find out more about me.

This is my second year doing NaNo. Last year I kind of quit halfway through but I think I'm going to get through this time. My story this year is going to revolve around angel/enochian lore but that's just a tiny part of it. I love reading anything from any genre, though my favorites happen to be fantasy and horror.

I'm definitely looking to have some writing buddies seeing as I have very few right now. I'm just looking to have some buddies to chat with about the woes of writing, to bounce ideas off of, help each other or give advice, motivate, or just to chat. Things of that nature. Send me a pm or email if you are interested. :)

Hey all! My name is Lexi, and this will be my second year doing NaNoWriMo. I write all sorts of stuff, because I don't like limiting myself to one specific genre. Though I have a soft spot for science fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy. I'm a sophomore this year in high school.... And I love to meet all sorts of people, and I would love to have a few writing buddies. :)
