What can I say?

Sometimes I can wing 'em, sometimes I can't...

I needed a stronger foundation for the story to stand on; without it, it started sinking into the murk. Something to work on for Draft 2... but not for a while. (I like to give my NaNo novels at least until January to "season" before I turn back to them. And it's not like I have a shortage of other stories that need writing/editing...)

I don't know if it's my absolute favorite, but I did manage to write one line that basically elucidated the whole idea of the book:
“This is the beauty of Time,” Rysa said, “that such terrible things can happen, the end of all things, and still nothing changes. Everything and nothing are all one and the same, equal in the sight of time. And in a world where nothing changes from minute to minute or age to age, stories are what make each second unique.”
I don't have a favorite line, but I do have a favorite paragraph (I hope that's is okay).

“Because I love you,” Desiree said louder than she meant, tears starting to form in her eyes. “I want to be with you, I want to give this a chance. But I’m afraid of it, too. All I can think of is you and Shé. Not you and me. You make her happy, and I-” The words caught in Desiree’s throat. “I hate her for it! I hate that you can give her something she needs! I want it for myself! I want you! And I hate myself for wanting to take it away from Shé! For wanting to take you away from her!”

Well, it's one of my favorites, at least. The other one, I think I need the whole scene in order for it to make sense. But I love these paragraphs just for the raw emotion from the characters. No reservations what so ever.

"Okay, let's get started. D, get me maps Florida's sewerline. Leo, go tell the students that under no circumstances should they leave their rooms and try to look threatening. Will, Jim, go get my badges and my best trench coat. Carol, stay here and watch the kids. And new guy--"
"Jeff."
"Yes, you, get me styrofoam bowl of chocolate icecream and stay with Carol. Come one everybody. I return tonight. Let's have some fun."

My favorite line, doesn't exist. I have two.

1. "It was a bright room, yet it seemed to be hiding a threatening growl" Yes, I personified it as an animal.

2. "So? Now shut up or when I get my bow back I will shoot you in the calf. So I would back off and leave me alone before I stab you with my knife then shoot you, and I don’t make empty threats.” The threat is the best part.

My favorite line is actually not because it's some well thought out, beautiful prose, but how it's used in context.

My FMC was telling the MMC about a dream that she had where this woman and man (who happens to look like the MMC) are at a train station, and he's about to board. Just as he's getting onto the train, the woman says very softly, while she's standing on the platform, "I will wait for you. Always." He turns to look at her one last time, and then he's gone.

My FMC tells my MMC a brief version of the dream, not mentioning what the woman had said. And yet, as she's getting up to clear the table, she thinks she hears him mumble, ""I will wait for you, always."

Re: Favorite line you've written.

One of my favorite passages from a random scene I was writing. It doesn't seem very good out of context, so basically, the FMC is being followed by the MMC who (the reader finds out) is trying to protect her. But neither knows the other, even the guy is just going off a description he heard. They're on a plane and he decides to explain why he's been following her. Only, because of certain reasons I can't explain briefly, they pretty much start making out as soon as they first see each other face to face...
When they broke apart, they were both a little out of breath. The man looked at her, smiling a little.
"I'm Jesse Zafiro, nice to meet you."
"Rory Black. How are you?"
He shook his head, leaning forward to kiss her again. "I think Hell just froze over."
my other favorite line is from a different story told from the point of view of the MMC, Omri.
The village is called Angel’s Tears. May I just point out, once more, that Slayer’s Province severely lacks in the naming department? Living half frozen most of the year isn’t that bad. In fact, there are at least three months in which we can farm. Usually.
Well, it's more than one line. And it might not get used since my story has changed too much since the first draft. Five years later, and at this point of the story, these two characters are simply not on speaking terms anymore. Pity. Still one of my favourite stories. :)

William let out a small, mocking laugh. "Damien isn't capable of lying, not even if he tried. You, on the other hand..."
"So you're saying you'd rather believe the guy who attacked me moments ago out of the blue, than me?" Elliot's voice sounded sharper than he had intended.
"You've been lying a lot lately, Elliot," William said.

“As much as I love it when you compare my love life to terrorist activity, I’m not sure that’s necessary this time.”

“And they’re about to finish before we do if you don’t decide already, it’s your turn,” said Gavin. “Unless you want more time to listen to that lovely couple having sex.”

Out of context for the win! :D
