Do you guys find it hard to start writing? What's your novel's opening line/sentence? Do you guys bother writing a catchy opening to hook your readers? And anyone guilty of using purple prose? :D

The first line of my novel is... "What wakes us up?"

What's yours? :)

I have such a difficult time working on opening sentences. When midnight struck on November first, though, I was just like, "GOGOGO!" and, well, here it is:

"If the City was, by night, shrouded in mist and smog, making the night sky a pale reflection of what it normally was, by day it was a twisting labyrinth wet by rain and bird droppings."

I like opening up my stories with quotes.

Ex.
Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.
-Winston Churchill

But that's like italicized above the actual story.
My real opening line is
It was six o'clock in the morning when Chase's alarm rung.
