I know it's not quite November yet, so we can't talk about out actual Novel progress. Two days to go! But unless you're a hard core pantser, this is still a busy time! I've finally started really planning! I had some ideas about plot and characters, but now I've got out the notebooks and references and pens and markers and highlighters and don't forget the index cards! Now I'm working (trying to work) on getting everything ready by tomorrow night! Eep! I won't have a chance to do much on Monday. I've even started filling up my banner! How's your Nano prep, whether it's planning or getting other projects/chores done first, going?

I am also totally jealous. I am still lacking a plot and a true main character....all I really have is dragons and maybe a volcano.

I'm at the 'finished prep-' (It'll last me to week two, and then I'll wish I'd done more) '-want to start writing now' stage. All of my efforts are going to not jumping the gun. And making random character sketches on the forum. And working of collecting writer's in the wild points. Dragons and a volcano sound like a solid working premise to me.

I was hoping to get a bunny made this weekend, but I need to at least have a plan before I go to bed tonight (no chance to do much tomorrow), especially if I want to hit 50K by Hal-Con... (I like to set unreasonable goals LOL) So you may surpass me on the bunny bounty. argh!! :P

planning progress is not going well... I still need to at least plan out the first few scenes/chapters (well, all of them, but I'm hoping to have a few planned out to start before Nano starts!) [/quote] So far I just have character information and dragon photos on my banner, but I hope to have a time line and other basic facts/inspiration as well. Originally I'd hoped to have it so that I could write on it from my desk, but my room isn't set up right. We'll see if this is useful or just fun :P

I have an outline from beginning to end; I did that one 1 year ago, so I don't remember much xD. I have the clearest picture about my beginning, so that should get me through the first week, and hopefully it just goes from there. Lucky me, I already did a lot of charachter sketches, so I don't have to do that and can start straight ahead with my heroes - I love them :) (especially the dragon!!) I still need to figure out why the bad guys are "bad" and what they true motives are; at the moment they are just the other "team", trying to get the prize (the crystal) and they haven't got any qualms about hurting or killing people to get what they want. And they have dragon-horses (very important)! So, still a lot to plan xD.

I love volcanoes! Maybe the volcano could speak or he could be the one who made dragons (from lava or ash - different kinds). And then he just doesn't do it anymore and his children have to find out why; the whole race of dragons is in danger or getting extinct! You have to save them!! ;)

How can you sit by while they suffer from the abandonment of their lava parents. It doesn't have to be this way. YOU can save them. For 1667 words a day - that's less than a college essay - you can save the worlds dragons. Don't sit idly by. The world needs your novel. If you plan to be at 50k by Hal-con you'll definitely be surpassing me in words, and collecting a fair amount of points for that too, so it'll even out.

It's not quite the Volcano/lack of parents theme more a dragon-liberation with our hero being a "Moses" exodus type hero. As my friend commented, "so your title could be 'Let My Dragons Go'?"

[/quote] No worries really something will hit you and you'll just have to write it....and you can't write till midnight. What's your genre? I think there is a adopt a plot forum. You could retell a familiar story arch with a new hero (rags to riches or coming of age) or add dragons. Having a dragon is a great idea. I didn't have a plot till this last week, I'm still missing an antagonist, a general plot creating problem to overcome, a real understanding of the main character, and sanity. Really you are in good company.

Writing has been happening. I have words and ideas and it is horrible but I'm getting scenes and characters slowly. I think I like the characters I met yesterday. I have the elf girl who found the egg, her step-mother, and very cool wise grandfather.

I currently broke the 12K mark today and hope to push for 20K if possible tomorrow. The only challenge i been having as of late is i feel like i'm getting too obvious with my plot. Not that it bothers me since i plan on proofreading this book and redesigning it afterwards, but being my first time writing, i can't help but pause and laugh at some of the things i write for my plot XD I hope i don't do that again tomorrow.

I like my plot, and I think it's a pretty good tale, but I'm with you: how obvious is my plot lines? Will the reader immediately see the twist? I suppose that will come with editing, but can I wade through the drivel to finish this beast?
