Word wars (writing sprints that are all about high word count in a set time limit) are great ways to increase your overall word count, stay motivated, and discover interesting plot twists and unexpected details about characters.
Between writing events and for those too spread out to attend a write-in word wars happen over MSN, Twitter, and other networky-thingies. If you are interested in participating with other NS writers in sprints and word wars this is the thread to connect. Share what is the best way for you to challenge each other (MSN vs. Twitter vs. Other) share your victories and find encouragement to keep writing. (If you are going to share an emails remember to write it like "email at server dot com" to avoid spam spiders).
I participate in word wars/sprints via Twitter (@AuroraLee) and here on the forums. They're a great way to help you keep focused if you're having issues with that.
Don't forget to also check out @NaNoWordSprints on Twitter! You don't need to be registered or logged on to Twitter to view either of these accounts (just to post replies) so if you're mobile and the Nano site is too difficult to navigate on your phone or tablet, check out Twitter instead :)
(and I'm guessing only wars won at write ins count for the Valley's Point Race. :P)
Would it be worth it to create a Facebook group for this region? I haven't used MSN in years, and my Twitter account is for my job. I'm certainly not opposed to a real-time way to connect with each other, but it has to work for me.

novel writing? I didn't sign up for that!? where's my prize!??
little1liz wrote: We could do that....would a name like NS Wrimos work for everyone as a facebook group title?
Works for me.
We could post word wars here or on the facebook page as we do them at the write ins, that way those who can't make it might still be able to participate in those online.
My ears are burning... as they do any time the word fiend is mentioned. Actually though, I would probably lose ground on points on this given that I'm not on facebook or twitter or msn or...
Can the idea that's thought of work around any of that?
I was thinking of trying to run some word sprints here in this thread while at the kingstec write-in tomorrow. what do you think? And as it's during a write-in, if someone wins on this thread it could be worth points?

Sure -I'm in a generous mood...and points are free.
Not weird at all....I should have let out an evil laugh, I've been working on mine. Vocal coach and everything. Some people forget the laugh, and that is just about standards. You don't think bad horse didn't work on his whiny? His evil deadly whiny.
Idea for this... the Halifax chat has a word war bot, and they're pretty good about people not entirely in the region, but not far enough way that it's absurd, lurking in the chat room.
Remember: if there is online interest during the Tuesday write-in I'll run word wars in this thread. I'll post here when the write-in starts to see if there's anyone around and wanting to take part. If no one replies I won't bother. I'd feel awfully lonely if I were the only one warring in the thread. ;)
Not sure if that will happen Monday, I won't have a computer at the write-in... You can always check in during the write-in time, though and see if someone else has offered to run them :)

How did I know you'd be the first one to comment?
Yes, only write in word war victories count for points. Unless....we could organize and official online word war for points. And by we I mean you.
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Because you know me so well? :P
I'll think on it, there may be a way to make it happen :)

Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
I think it's a good idea. I know that some of my groups don't have the chat feature at the bottom, but some do. Is there a way to turn that on?
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
you are so smart and creative...ever thought about writing a novel? I think you'd come up with some great ideas
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
All new Facebook groups will have the chat feature at the bottom, it's the older ones that will sometimes not have the chat feature.
It seems that I only use FB for groups these days so I am all for that
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Hmm, I'll have to think about, I've can take my time thinking up an idea right??

"Points Fiend" was written with love.
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
I never said you were wrong in your description. I just said it was clear. :)

Is it bad that the combination of 'generous mood' and 'free points' made me break into evil moohouhaha laughter?

Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
No. I know he did. The Thoroughbred of Sin is sort of my role model.... I wanna do great things, you know? I wanna be an achiever, like Bad Horse.
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
"I meant Ghandi."
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Hey, Liz, wanna see my impression of Gandhi?
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
*wacks a deamon*
"Gandhi?"
*shrugs* Well, he was really pissed off
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Enjoying the Dr. Horrible groove going on...
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Is anyone playing along at home? If so, I'll run a sprint at 1215. If not, well... I won't bother :P
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Heading over now....see you soon.
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
I didn't run any wars online cause no one seemed to be on. I'll try and remind people earlier next week!
Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Actively posting in this forum is my way of word waring. But i might get something going on MSN! >.>

Re: Word Wars: Connecting and Encouraging Over Great Distances
Hmm. I suppose I expected everyone to be a mind reader ;)
Write-ins Tuesday 11 am - 2pm; Monday 6-9 pm. You can participate in the thread wars even if you're not in the valley or at the write-in :D
