This will likely be answered within one post, but as a nano virgin, I thought I'd throw it out anyway...

What is the purpose of writing buddies? We have e-mail, and we have forums. Is there another function besides the sentiment that someone admits to being your friend (lol)?

Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to be anti-social or over-analytical. I'm all for having buddies, and being one. I'm just not sure that I'm grasping the concept, that's all.

I think it depends on the person.

I don't use email during November, so a list of buddies makes sending nanomail faster. I also find them easier to check in with friends from previous years to see if they are participating again, connect with writing friends who might not be from your region or are not very active on the forums or maybe just to show the rest of nanoland you really do have friends?

That makes sense. It's about ease and convenience, in which case I won't worry I'm missing out on something.

I added as buddies my 2 FB friends that decided to join the insanity with me. If anyone else wants to add me, I'm down with that too. Or into that. Or all over it. Or some other preposition.

I use the buddies list as competition, to quickly see how people's word count is.

I could see that, but you are superwoman with the writing goals. I can't keep up with you. I won't lie....however I won't like, I check others word counts just to feel better about mine on poor daily word goal days.

lol that's a good point too, when you see others who are lagging far behind

I like competition too. If anyone likes to add me to their b uddy list, feel free to do so!
