I've broken my schedule into days where I'll do 3k and others where I'll shoot for 1k, based on what else is going on that day. Today is a 3k day. I wanted to get 5000 words today so I've been working on it basically all day (on and off). I started this morning at 6AM and I just typed the final word for the day as the City Council meeting was beginning. The basic premise and progress of the story will stay the same but before the end of the month it may end up moving from a setting of 1860s Montana to 1860s Nebraska based on the flow of the story. It was originally going to be set in Oklahoma, but since the story deals with the Homestead Act in the United State in Oklahoma it would have had to have been set in 1889 or later... and I wanted the story to predate the popularity of the telegraph in rural America. I have never written fiction in the epistolary format before, but I have to say that it's quite interesting.
