The Introduction Post!....Round 2...

Okay, since I'm a doofus and forgot that the forums were going to be wiped on October 10, the previous introduction post got lost. Let's try that again!

My name is Jenn, I'm 25, and I'm a third year student at Queen's (Classics major!) This is my 5th time doing Nano, and my second year as ML. *Looks at 10% finished outline* I don't think I'm ready at all...

Who else do we have this year?

Re: The Introduction Post!....Round 2...

I've been waiting for this to pop up! :)

I'm Lauren, or Murphy (though I'll also answer to "Hey, you" and some less polite forms of address). This is my third year doing NaNo, and hopefully my third win---but first I need to finish LAST year's. o__O Some of you might remember my epic 20K dash to the finish last year... well, even after that, I haven't finished the novel yet. So I'm definitely not ready.

When I'm not panicking about NaNo, I'm panicking about my schoolwork. I'm a third year behavioural science student at St. Lawrence College, about to start placement. It's my last year, so here goes nothing!

Re: The Introduction Post!....Round 2...

Hiya! My name is Ronda and this is my second year doing NaNo - though last year I was in the London ON region. No win for last yr because of severe illness and huge writer's block in my genre but lets hope this year will be different!

I'm pumped to get started! I'm working full time at Startek, though want to look into going to SLC for Vet Tech probably next Fall if I'm still here. Fiance and I are in separate areas (he's in Sarnia still) working on saving for a house in Peterborough...yea, sounds more weird than it is I think LOL So, no distractions and I have a week's vacation I am going to be taking during November which should be an awesome bonus for getting to the 50k mark this year!

Outside of my love for writing, I also love drawing and am working on a comic idea and some crafty stuff to sell on etsy and have fun with. I'm Wiccan and Vegetarian and just love animals. I currently have three big sucky boy rats, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, and a Betta fish. I also have a cat, but he's with the hubby. Yea, I'm not one for normal pets mostly hehe Can't wait to get started and hopefully chit chat with fellow Kingston NaNo-ers!

I'm sort of back. I won last year for the first time, but it was in a lucky month without many other obligations. That isn't the case this year! But I'll see what I can get to, plugging away. As usual, I'm going to cheat, and see if I can finish last year's project. It worked for me the two years before that!

It seems like November is the only time I actually write in any decent quantity any more. It's like I need the explanation to give to people about why I'm being antisocial. In November, people think it's cool, the rest of the year, they just don't get it.

I've been around since 2007, but only finished novels in the first two of those years. If I can put a Snowflake together before Nov 1 I may try again this year, but it's dicey. I started taking courses at Queen's in 2008, which put quite a constraint on my time in November -- but, hey, that's what NaNo is for, forcing us to spend time on something other than Real Life.

BTW there's no particular reason why people need to tell us anything about their Real Life; I made the faux pas of asking someone for details a couple of years ago, and was reminded of what online handles are for.

Hi all!
I'm Jasmin, and this is my first year doing NaNo. I used to be a journalism student back in Vancouver many moons ago, but my love for writing got lost in the rigidity of the program. Over the past few years, I have really missed my writing rituals. I thought this would be the perfect way to jump back into it. Although, I am a little nervous that my ideas for my novel aren't fully formed yet.

Hey everybody!

Froshie at Queen's here, freaking about balancing everything. I won NaNo in grade's 9-11, failed miserably last year and am trying to redeem myself now.
Hopefully will be a classics major, maybe history, still really haven't decided.
Also, on the theme of "undecided", let me introduce my novel topic. Since I officially decided to do NaNo all of six hours ago, I'm a little behind there, so we'll see what I can come up with after midterms are done.
If any other Queen's students are lurking, I made us a forum (http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/canada-ontario-kingston/threads/7177) so we can chat there too. Hopefully we can arrange a CoGro writing session once or twice?
See you all around!

I'm Glen. Some of you may remember me as a former Nanoer. I took a year off from it, but this year I plan to return to the keys, especially since my first nano novel is now in print and available at Chapters ("Dancing on the Inside," a children's novel for ages 9-12).

This year I hope to churn out a draft of a sequel.

Re: The Introduction Post!....Round 2...

My name is Eirien and I'm a Concept Artist.

This is my second year of NaNoWriMo. I wrote a Steampunk themed NaNo novel last year and had a lot of fun with it. I was considering doing a sequel but SP is too mainstream right now for my tastes.

This year I'm working on a collection of stories all woven together into one large NaNo novel to compliment a campaign/story world I'm making for my RPG buddies. It'll be anthro-themed rather than the typical Human/Elf/Dwarf/Orc campaign settings. I'm very excited to craft a completely new world, races and cultures for it all. To top it, I'll be working on landscape art and NPC character illustrations during and after the book is written.

Take care, folks!

My name is David, and I've done Nano four times thus far... only successful last year, in large part because I had an unusually free month. This year, I've got a full-time work schedule to contend with... not to mention that all my free time's been being consumed by the bottomless vortex that is Eve Online. XP

On the plus side, however... I work from home, taking calls, and very frequently have lengthy periods between calls when I don't really have much to do... and since I've got a laptop anyways, I should be able to get some good writing in while 'at work' (technically, I am 'at work' right now), so that should help. Could go either way, really... but a support group of fellow novelists is always useful. :)

Hi, this is my first attempt at Nano (well officially, unofficially I started but then failed to progress due to curveballs thrown by life last year). I have a lot of free time on my hands, and I love to write so I figure I can get the 50k unless my creativity wanes by the end of the month.

I randomly decided to give it a go 2 days ago, got my best friend interested as well, so he's joining me in the challenge too. Another friend is unofficially giving it a try so yay, lots of people to bounce ideas off of and talk to when my brain needs a break. :)

I don't know if I'll make it to the kick-off, but I'll try to attend at least one get together. I look forward to meeting and/or talking with everyone!

Re: The Introduction Post!....Round 2...

I'm Terry and I'm 34; I've been blogging for 15 years and have been writing since way before that. Although mostly just stuff online and in the eight Bankers Boxes full of pages that no one will ever read in my basement.

This will be my first real attempt at NaNoWriMo ever. For the past 3, I think, years I've talked about doing it but have never really hastened from my normal writing pace in any appreciable manner that would have facilitated success. This year will be different. I am actually champing at the bit to get started as I sped up another fiction project through the middle-end of October in order to be done in time for November and ended up finishing early. Now I'm sitting here in writer's limbo unable to start this new story but having nothing else to work on (and if I started revising something I would absolutely get shiny-buttoned into working on that through November).

The story that I plan to write is going to be written in a narrative style I've never used before and in a setting that I've never written in before... so it'll be fun (or a horrific disaster). I think that's at least part of the reason why I am so looking forward to getting started.

::waves:: Hello, I'm Katie. I'm 36 and I live in the wilds outside the city. :) I've been writing for almost 3 years and I've posted online two well-received serial fictions as well as a number of shorter one-shot pieces.

While my online writing friends have busily participated in NaNo each year, I've been too focused on completing my online works to take part. The stuff I've done online I've viewed as my "practice" stuff, and from this point I'm writing with a view to publication.

I've just signed a contract with a small US published for my first novella, a 15K-word historical piece. For NaNo I'm writing a political story. I'm already nearly 30K into it and hoping to have it more or less completed by the end of November. :)

I'm Melissa! I am a BBA student at SLC and I work full time in my field as well. But, I got the writing bug early in my life and I've been abandoning novels and stories since my early teens :)

Last year I had good intentions with NaNoWriMo that failed epically around the half way mark. I blamed it on school, but this year I'm taking even more courses (and still working full time). And, because I decided last minute to participate, I've done no planning or outlining at all! My only real fear is that Skyrim is released on the 11th, so that will be the biggest challenge for me!

Oh boy, I'm so nervous. I read through this and some of you are hardcore champs and veterans and I'm sitting here, going, "Oh my Lord, I'm not going to finish this, this is going to be destructive - they /will laugh at me/."

But hi! I'm Jodie, and this is my first year doing NaNo. I've written plenty of, well, fanfiction in the past and I feel it's time to assert my efforts outside the world of fandom, and into serious writing. I do not attend SLC, but my friend does so I kind of tag along once in awhile. I spend most days writing. And I will be spending /more/ days writing. And I'm nervous. This was kind of a whim decision, and I hope to complete this. I have a strong desire to, and the elements all work well in my head. It's just putting it down into words that'll be tricky.

So, hello, and it's a pleasure to meet you all!

Hello! I'm K, and this is my third year doing NaNo. I did it in 2007 and 2008 - managed to write all 50,000 words in five days in 2008. Haven't done it since as it was rather draining after that.

I'm an SLC drop-out (haha). I took graphic design and absolutely hated it. Since then have been working at a horse farm outside the city on most weekends and during the summer, and now also work at Future Shop during the week. Somehow I thought trying NaNo again would be a good idea despite having two jobs haha.

I just learned about NaNo today, even though I've heard of it before, and decided "What the heck? I'll try it." because I tend to work better towards a deadline. I've lived in Kingston my whole life (technically I'm in Ahmerstview now, details :P) and love it here. Nice to meet you all!

Hey everyone. I'm Ashley, this is my third year doing NaNo, hopefully this will also be my second win--failed last year do to family stuff. I've lived in Amherstview my whole life until September 30th when I moved to Verona, but do to the smallness of Verona and the...well, I don't really want to say lack of participation because I don't know many people here, but whatever the case, we don't have our own group. So I'm still classing myself as the Kingston cell :) I'm out of highschool, but I'm not in College or University, issues making up my mind on things causes problems. Um...I've been writing for twelve years (so I was seven when I wrote my first novel...300 pages...hand written....and no I can not read it anymore lol). What else, what else...I used to be a caffeine addict until last monday when I was told to lay it off by my doctor because of my hands. I have either arthritis in my hands, or raynauds syndrom which makes writing difficult sometimes--but that's what Dragon is for lol.
