This year, if you've been in chat, you probably already know who our word war competition this year is, so we're not going to make the rest of you wait until the Kick-Off this year!
We'll be completely annihilati-- err, we'll be competing against Atlanta this year.
The rules are a little different from years previous -- it's going to be total word count and total donations -- we're going to have our jars for donations out at every single event, and keep your eyes peeled for some fundraising initiatives! :) If you can't donate monetarily, though, donate some words to our cause! :D
We will be keeping a scoreboard on our site, as in past years, so if you'd like to be included on there so that anyone using the site for our chat can see where you stand -- let us know in this thread!
Just a clarification: Everyone writing NaNo this year in our region is automatically signed up!
Now, this doesn't mean we're expecting every single person to hit 50 000 (though that would be awesome!) and we're not going to be disappointed if you don't. But every word you write this year will help us in our efforts against the evil pandas! :D
Just to echo Drewiepoo here - it is a total war. We're going to go based off the Global Word Count scoreboard. This isn't an average war for highest average word count, so literally *every word counts*.
And in case anyone's wondering: the site-wide wordcount scoreboards and the fundraising scoreboards are two of the features that we're still waiting on after the new site launch, so we won't actually be able to track Toronto/Atlanta's war until then. Should be up soon!
Considering I've already fired a couple sporting jabs at them (i.e. "Remember October '92", and "How 'bout them Thrashers?"), I guess I've pretty much signed myself up for this again this year.
So come on, Toronto, it's time to relive history and "Stop The Chop" again.
I like being on the scoreboard. I think I like the micro-competition of climbing the scoreboard ranks more than the macro-competition of the actual war.
Just out of curiousity, is there going to be an over-all ToNaNo word score and over-all NaNoLanta word score widget-picture-thing on the site too? Or will we have to look elsewhere to see that we are kicking their asses word wise?
Once those stats and widgets go live on the site, we're hoping we can use that info to plug into some doohicky that Errol will put together, enabling us to display the city totals on the same page of torontonano.org as the individual wordcount scoreboard. We're still waiting on full site functionality, though, to be completely sure how it's all going to work. Grrr argh!
Welll...until three seconds ago when I googled it I had no idea that pandas were the Nanolanta thing... But I bet Atlanta doesn't have SQUISHED pandas! So I'll keep my squishy Toronto panda around a little longer! Go Non-Lanta Pandas! :D
Errol! THERE you are! Can you really write a novel while also writing all those songs and drawing all those cartoons, yelling at Debs about where the bridge should go, and raising those two superstar daughters of yours, and ... whatever else you do?
Just to let you Toronto folks know what you're up against, I've got my Model M Space Saver keyboard, pimped up as shown in my avatar, ready to go. I bought it for and used it in NaNoWriMo 2009, which I WON.
Beware, Toronto! You're fighting against an animal that Eats, Shoots, and Leaves! Muuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha!
Well, I have a plan to help me with words. I'm writing two novels this month. One with my sister, and one with Debs. :D Just because... I'm not busy enough. :D
WORD WAR 2011!

Also, NaNoLanta has started a smack talk thread! Now, I'm not going to tell you exactly where it is, but we could sorely use some defence over there... or here, for that matter! :D
Questions? Comments? Manatees? Leave them here or get in touch with me! :D
Re: WORD WAR 2011!
I'd like to be on the ToNaNo scoreboard!
I find it's motivational: I like to check in and see who's ahead of me, then write 'til I pass them on the board :D
