OFFICIAL FUNDRAISER: Adopt-a-Day!

You've already been introduced to our Word War competition for this year, NaNoLanta, and their mighty pandas. But what you might not realize is that this year's war against Atlanta is about more than just the writing - it's an all-out battle to trounce Atlanta in not only words, but in donations, as well!

Atlanta's MLs created an "Adopt-a-Day" program last year that we've been invited to copy. We've modified it a bit for our purposes and we hope you'll get a lot out of it!

There are two parts to Toronto's adopt-a-day program: Donation and Inspiration.

For every day of the month, you can "adopt" that day in one of two ways - either by donating (in your name or someone else's) or by inspiring us to great wordcounty lengths with your own mini pep talk.

We'd love to see you adopt a day both financially AND motivationally, but you're welcome to do just one or the other.

Donors: Claim your date and send your donation now to NaNoWriMo through the website's store/donation station. Making sure that you're affiliated with Toronto before you do so and that you include a valid NaNo username (either you own or someone else's) on the donor form. The suggested donation for adopting a ToNaNo day is $15 or above. No limit!

Inspirers: Claim your date and provide us with a brief pep talk (in the Adopt-a-Day Pep Talk forum thread) on that day! Your pep talk might be about your own NaNo experience, why you write, tips and tricks to get to 50K, or even an inspirational quote or idea on creativity. Anything you wish!

I've created a Google doc where we'll keep track of which dates have already been claimed, since we're not able to edit forum posts at the moment.

2. Decide whether you'd like to donate, inspire, or do both!

3. Reply below claiming a date (only one per person, please) and telling us whether you're a donor, a pep talker, or both!

4. Inspirational cheerleader pep-talkers: On the date you've claimed, come back here and post your pep talk in the Adopt-a-Day Pep Talk forum thread (locked for now, but will be opened up on November 1 for our first pep talker)!

I would like to claim the 17th, and I will put my money where my mouth is - both of which is on NaNo. That sounded vaguely dirty. But yes, will donate when the paycheque comes, and will do a pep talk for the seventeenth.

I want to claim November 2nd as a pep-talker. It's the same day as another one of my classes' improv shows, and I have a feeling I can draw inspiration from both to aid the other, and say something fancier to that effect (but still, with meaning!).

Er, It'll make sense when I write it!

Can we adopt in the month?

Um...tentatively thinking about November 12th. Give me 8 hours from now to read everything and see if it's do-able. usually the 12th is when I hit a wall and give up for about 2 weeks, so maybe being a motivator will be motivating for me.....I will make that day my Nano day.

I'd like to adopt the 6th, pep talk and donor, if it's okay for me to home region Toronto for that day to donate?
