So, half way through I am thinking that my novel would be better as a YA. Do I finish it as an adult Chick Lit and change it later in revision or do I switch characters ages now? I already have some ideas for the switch.
Write however you feel comfiest. I've switched from past to present tense but I'm not going back to change what's already written. That's what the rest of the year is for.
I finished an entire novel as a mystery and now I'm revising and unraveling. It's pretty hard. If you can quickly add/strip stuff in the front end, and write the rest as you mean to go, it will wind up being less work and will make your soul happier since you already know you want to take the other path. However, bookpatch is right... don't contradict what you want to write at this point if your goal is completion and word count in November. Whatever you put on the page this month will be valuable, and you'll end up revising regardless. Listen to your inner voice. Only you have it
changing genre?
