Finished! :D

Hi chicas! I finished a few minutes ago...but having problems validating. I used Scrivener and not Microsoft Word. I compiled my document as an .RTF and copied and pasted it into the validator but then the validator says I am not at 50K. I look at my progress according to Scrivener and I have 50067. Very confused... will try to fix it at work today... :)

Congratulations, Kim! I used Scrivener too and did the same deal, and my word count differed by 34 words. I am not sure to what the variance should be attributed, but it looks like you figured it out. It's probably a good idea to go to at least 100 words over just for padding, but I'm not sure because this is only the second time I've finished. NaNoWriMo said word counts can vary by as much as 1,000 words! Yikes! I'd hate to feel like I was finished and discover I was still 1,000 words away.

Re: Finished! :D

Congratulations to both of you! I think there is a thread about this in the Tech Help forum -- lots of people had a similar problem who were using Scrivener. I used Storyist and had the opposite experience -- it was less generous with me than the NaNo validator, so my 50-word padding was unnecessary. I'm still probably about 10K words short of actually finishing telling the story but I wanted to validate right away. My hubby's also NaNo-ing it this year, so I'm waiting until I don't have any family responsibilities before writing some more tonight. (It's funny, I thought getting past 50K would de-motivate me, but it hasn't, I'm eager to finish the novel and start editing it.)

Congrats to all!

I won, but I'm probably 20k away from finishing the actual story. So, I wrote a little epilogue with a few "what happened next" paragraphs, and got to write The End, which was awesome. I validated, and now I'm going back to fill in more words and chapters.

My daughters have been really supportive, and want me to keep writing and finish the story. :)
