I attempted the snowflake method for this but didn't get past the initial paragraph descriptions (hoping I have better luck with nano :) This is what I wrote --->
An assistant editor throws off the shackles of her desk job and joins a wildlife adventurer heading to the Brazilian Rainforests. When assistant editor Hilary Douglas loses her promotion to the nephew of the CEO she gives her bosses an ultimatum that goes horribly wrong, with only a fortnight to find a new job she jumps at the chance to join a film crew travelling with self-titled ‘Wildlife adventurer’ Gregory Harrison on his trip to the Brazilian rain forests, the only problem is that they really don’t want her to come along. Hilary faces broods of poisonous snake, terrifying colonies of venomous ants and perhaps the most frightening in all of the species throughout the entire world…a pack of macho, fearless and chauvinistic red blooded males.
I like the idea, but as a librarian have you ever met a sensitive male librarian? If so I would love to meet him because almost all my female librarian friends agree: male librarians are just plain creepy. Trust me! I would love to meet a normal one.
Girl comes to small town to start over. Girl is rebuffed by town and befriends very few, including hot sheriff. Girl learns sheriff's secret and almost leaves like everyone wants.
YES! HELP! I need to know what kind of buildings and businesses are in a small town. I want to know what the dynamics are like between the citizens. How are new people treated? ANY information you can give me is helpful! Please, please nanomail me when you can! :)
I would LOVE your help too! The more insight the better! I'm shooting for a small, several hundred population town in the rural mountain area. Any info you can give me about the dynamics of a small town would be fantastic. Send me some nanomail?
Heroine is a successful baker despite being barely functional in a social setting due to her OCD.
Hero is top secret government built cyborg that escapes from the lab with no knowledge that he's not human, but knowledge about pretty much everything else, including how to survive as a human and how to bake.
Hijinks ensue.
So it's not quite Chick Lit. It will be written in the Chick Lit style, so I feel this would be absolutely the worst SciFi or Thriller ever, so you ladies are stuck with me. :)
Heroine, Elisabeth, is a career-confused late-20-something who's going to have to come to terms with changing her life from practical to impractical.
Hero is Vincent van Gogh, albeit very much in the posthumous sense.
Elisabeth begins writing letters to Vincent in an effort to find balance in her life between choosing a creative career over something more practical. She chose Vincent as he was her favorite painter growing up; visiting one of his exhibitions rekindles the fascination, leading to the letters as being a form of self-therapy.
Exotic Dancing is April’s whole world; crazy girlfriends, hard partying, liaisons with dangerous men and shopping with cash are just a part of the job. Inheriting your great uncle’s old sheep-farming estate, however, is not.
Girl is in love with a boy since high school. He promises to keep in touch after he goes to medical and she leaves to another city but he doesn't and over the years, her obsession over him actually increases. One day she discovers a awesome sci-fi show about a time-traveling Doctor. In her mind, she made up a story in her head where he's the Doctor and she's the faithful companion. She then realizes how stupid that is and starts traveling to learn who she is and of course... hijinks ensue.
Young 20-something gets dumped by "the one". Other women in her family whisk her away for the weekend to teach her that not all love stories are grand, epic novels - some love stories are short stories. Each woman shares her own "short story" - none of them end up with their love in the end, young 20 something learns something but is not magically healed by women weekend.
2 20-something friends prefer music/tv/novels that generally have a target audience of tweens and teens. They meet guys who prefer the classics. Everyone must learn to accept who they are and who their loved ones are, regardless of different interests.
It's gonna be a bit lighter and fluffier than how I think I made this sound.
Harriet grew up in a broken home with an abusive father and an absent mother. Now that she is in her 30's, her motto is 'If you never try, you won't fail' and she applies that to everything from work to love. Her father's death and a reunion with her mother eventually changes her persepective and causes her to question where her life is headed.
kate has situation specific amnesia. for the most part, she's able to go about her day to day life without it affecting her too much - except for where men are concerned. all of her relationships - no matter how promising - crash and burn because she can't commit to anyone because she feels like she's cheating on a man she can't remember but knows in her heart was "the one". when they meet again, he is forced either to try to find a way to get her to remember him without remembering the trauma that caused the amnesia or make her love him so much that she can get past the idea that she's cheating on him.
There´s a classic with a story like that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Marquise_of_O
Plays in Regency era in Italy - there´s a film by French filmmaker Eric Rohmer too - you might look it up - or pictures from the film might appear to your heroine.
I am afraid my story my lean more towards the romance side of things, but I am going to keep it listed for chick lit for awhile. I think I can get away with chick lit for this one.
Besides the Romance forums are intimidating...there are so many of them already!!
A woman knows that her mother has never understood her. She goes through her life with the pain of not being as close to her mother as she knows she could be. She takes her mother to a cabin for a week of intense bonding to see if they can close that gap together. Painful secrets that have been hidden for years will be told and memories gone over in new light.
A pregnant chick dreams about all the things her twins will do when they arrive!
I was looking for something very easy this year to get me back to writing and this is it. Plus, with me being pregnant (though not with twins) it is a little bit of a journal type story as well!
Girl goes on a series of truly awful dates. 5 dates in, her friends realize she is a real-life Snow White making her way through the Seven Dwarfs before she can find her Prince Charming. Throw in an actually wicked stepmother and some princess wannabes, and hilarity ensues.
Mine is really simple, and a little too wish fulfilment-y, but here goes.
Heroine realises she's really boring, dedicates herself to going to extremes. Action and (carefully managed) adventure follow, but when true love beckons, just how extreme is she prepared to go?
Society writer wants to cover crime stories at the newspaper where she works. She sees her chance when a society dame (I need a better word, sorry) is found dead in a part of town where she clearly doesn't belong. Enter grumpyish crime reporter who doesn't want her near the story. Pushy heroine works on the story. Things heat up, slowly. She's also uncertain if she really wants to marry her fiance investment banker type. (I'm still working on the synopsis).
As I said in a different post, I'm not entirely certain which genre I fit into, but the mystery people seem really serious about forensics, methods of killing people, etc. I think that chick lit can also have a mystery to be solved.
-Girl wants to become a journalist but goes broke while in university...deeply in debt actually! -Girl stumbles into an interview at an escort agency thinking she is applying for a secretary position. -Shenanigans, drama and hilarity ensue.
What's your story?
What's your chicklit about this year?
Share it here but don't use more than 3 lines :)

Re: What's your story?
Two women, two different lives, One man in common.
Mistress writes letters to the wife.
Not sure how it's all gonna end yet
Re: What's your story?
Heroine lives placid perfect life. Husband leaves, chaos ensues. Lots of flirting and tequilas. Cue Sensitive Librarian Man. Rediscovery of love, candlelit nights blah blah blah. Sensitive Librarian Man disappears OMG! Drama, tears, danger galore. A couple of dramatic revelations, and hopefully, blissful reunion - with SLM or estranged husband? Keep tuned!

Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a sensitive librarian.... :)
Re: What's your story?
Love.
Re: What's your story?
Girl meets boy at age of 5, they become best friends.
Girl and boy go through the awkward phases of growing up together.
Girl and boy are torn apart and must fight to find each other again.
Those are my three lines. This, of course, may change.
Re: What's your story?

Girl comes to small town to start over. Girl is rebuffed by town and befriends very few, including hot sheriff. Girl learns sheriff's secret and almost leaves like everyone wants.

Re: What's your story?
Ines hates being expected to be what her family wants.
It's your typical girl makes comic book, girl loses comic book, boy finds comic book, boy returns comic book, boy and girl meet.
Boy helps set Ines free.

I so want to read this!
Re: What's your story?
Awesome.
Re: What's your story?
Not sure.
Either the backstory and how she got where she is of a character in another in-progress novel or the novelzation of a play I'm working on.
Either way it's intelligent and shopping is NOT involved in the story AT ALL. *barf*
