For those of you who are new to the Night of Writing Dangerously ... when you enter the ballroom you'll probably notice a big table in the middle of the room decked out with over a hundred pounds of candy. It's there to be eaten. You can have as much as you like during the evening and bags are provided to take more home to fuel your noveling activities.
As I'm finalizing the preparations to get the candy to San Francisco, I wanted to check in with the actual consumers of said candy and see if you have any thoughts. Things you'd like to have ... old favorites that keep you going? Any special dietary issues? (I can't say that I can accommodate everything but I'll try to have it at least labeled.)
Previous hits that will most likely be returning: - Dove Promises (milk & dark) - Red Vines (and black vines) - Gummis - Sour Gummis - Hot Tamales (cinnamon)
YES to chocolate-covered pretzels! mmmm. Also liking the suggestion of nuts+chocolate. Chocolate-covered almonds, or the peanut M&Ms, would be most stellar. <3
I'm looking forward to finally seeing and eating from your famed candy buffet! Thanks for all your work (and forethought) with this!
Mmmm! I loved the Candy Blox from last year! I'm asking my son to help me plan a small creation so I can build it and have him there with me in spirit!
The caffeinated marshmallows were excellent, and Mike and Ikes are just as awesome as Hot Tamales!
As an aside, JustBorn (Hot Tamales, Peeps, Mike & Ikes) is a company based in my region. I don't happen to have any connections there, but if I can be of help accumulating candy goodness on this end, just give me a yell!
Yes please, to the candy blox. I didn't even know they still made those things!
Myself, being from Pennsylvania, anything from Hershey will be greatly appreciated and welcomed (and devoured).
But, if I had to choose the one thing that keeps me going, Tootsie Roll Midgees. I think I eat a bag a week by myself (and that's only because I buy one bag a week).
Ok, I'll counter the chocolate covered pretzels with chocolate covered, peanut butter filled, pretzels... ;-) And let's clarify the sour gummies to everyone's favorite Sour Patch Kids. Runts would be great - but chewy Runts are even better. Of course pretty much anything chocolate covered will be great - be it fruit, nuts, or oddities like chocolate-covered bacon. (Yes it sounds horrible but tastes unbelievably good!)
We used to have a business called the Candy Factory here where i live and they had these candy pieces that were grapefruit slices and they were amazing! (this coming from someone who doesn't like anything grapefruit) Chocolate covered pretzels are amazing, so are chocolate covered cranberries and raisins and chocolate covered gummi bears. . . pretty much chocolate covered anything. I once had chocolate covered oreos, those were good. M&M's are a yes, I prefer chewy things, but runts are good. Peanut butter bars sound good. I'm willing to try bulls eyes though i like cow tails better. I have a diabetic friend who loves raisinets. I'll ask her what else she can suggest. Not really sure if this counts as a candy, but trail mix. Normal trail mix is good, but having other stuff in it like buttersctoch pieces, white chocolate bits and cranberries or golden raisins is pretty good. I'm so excited about going! Everything sounds so breathtaking and awesome.
I vote for M&M variety-- peanut ones for the nut lovers, and plain ones for people like me ;-) If I don't have access to plain ones, though, I can improvise by only eating the (delicious!) chocolate parts and throwing away the (icky, gross) peanuts.
A fellow vegan! YAY! I don't do much processed food/sugar anymore, but hey, what the hell, this is one night a year. I am going to second the 'all the vegan stuff'!! Especially anything vegan + chocolate. I'm not a big fan of hard candy, but I do looooove chocolate. :D
All of this sounds amazing. I love chocolate covered anything, including pretzels, nuts, etc. Dried fruit is good too, healthier but still considered a treat I think. I will most likely be eating red licorice all night, though, and Sour Patch Kids! (Or whatever brand of sours you have.)
Yogurt covered pretzels are great too. Any chocolate candies, especially peanut m &ms, or even better dark chocolate peanut m&ms! Leftover Halloween mallow creme pumpkins and candy corns (my current writing fuel)
For the first time in all my Nano Years I am finally going to be on the West Coast and able to make it to NOWD!
You should just have a chocolate fountain so that we can dip anything we want in chocolate... that seems to be the general consensus, but if not then defiantly the chocolate covered pretzels for me :) maybe chocolate covered marshmallows.
Speaking as a diabetic, as much as I love love love the chocolate and sweets, I have to be a little careful around this. I don't know how many others you might have with this same issue but Russell Stovers does put out some nice sugar free chocolate turtles that are pretty easy to find in most parts of the country. Also, there is a Caterina's Candies in the John Wayne airport - I don't know if its a chain or not, but they have really great sugar free chocolates if they are.
I will probably bring my own fruits and nuts though so don't feel obligated if I am the only diabetic there. I can manage my own.

- Runts
- M&Ms
- Coffee Rio or Coffee Nips

Re: The Candy Buffet
Please please on the chocolate covered pretzels - sweet, salty, crunchy and melty, what could be better?
Re: The Candy Buffet
YES to chocolate-covered pretzels! mmmm.

Re: The Candy Buffet
Sadly I am only allowed one piece of chocolate and absolutely no nuts. Kidney failure sucks:p But all fruity candies are welcome:)

Majorly second the caffeinated mashmallows. :-D

Chocolate Covered Pretzels...OMG...please.
Re: The Candy Buffet
Ooh! Chocolate Covered Pretzels and Malted Milk Balls!
Also, my mom (my +1 guest) is diabetic. Maybe something she can pretend she's being good with? Lol.
Re: The Candy Buffet
Chocolate covered Raisins or Chocolate covered nuts?
I've always been a fan of chocolate covered fruits and nuts because it makes me think I'm eating healthier.
And Reese pieces!
But yes, to M&Ms and add my vote to the chocolate covered pretzels!

Re: The Candy Buffet
I have tried chocolate covered bacon. It's not as bad as it sounds. It was interesting to say the least. ;)
Re: The Candy Buffet
To go along with chocolate covered back, Bacon Brownies - DELICIOUS

Re: The Candy Buffet
Hey! So, well, my tastes in candy aren't anything too fancy, but I thought I'd share what I usually like.
Anything chocolate with REALLY sweet centers. (Cadbury is good for this.)
Fruity chewy bites. (Like Starburst, opal fruits, that kind of thing.)
Looking forward to trying whatever you get!
Re: The Candy Buffet
Mmm...Starburst...
It would be awesome if Starburst were feasible to ship in a package already unwrapped.
Re: The Candy Buffet
I agree with the M&M's, but not plain ones, they're boring. Peanut at least, or maybe the new Pretzel ones?^^ Those are sooooo good.

Re: The Candy Buffet
I'm vegan - and those candy blox look awesome. That would be my request: for as many vegan candy items as possible. Thanks, Cybele.
Re: The Candy Buffet
In case this helps: Vegan Halloween Candy

Re: The Candy Buffet
Oh, and the fact that you not only cater to us vegans, but also label all the candy as such, is pretty much EPIC! So thank you, thank you!!!!

Re: The Candy Buffet
I love when stuff is labeled; thank you so much! Knowing what has nuts and what doesn't is very helpful.
Chocolate covered pretzels, nerd ropes (nerds on red licorice), M&Ms, sour patch kids, skittles, and dove candies are all great.
