The Candy Buffet

For those of you who are new to the Night of Writing Dangerously ... when you enter the ballroom you'll probably notice a big table in the middle of the room decked out with over a hundred pounds of candy. It's there to be eaten. You can have as much as you like during the evening and bags are provided to take more home to fuel your noveling activities.

As I'm finalizing the preparations to get the candy to San Francisco, I wanted to check in with the actual consumers of said candy and see if you have any thoughts. Things you'd like to have ... old favorites that keep you going? Any special dietary issues? (I can't say that I can accommodate everything but I'll try to have it at least labeled.)

Previous hits that will most likely be returning:
- Dove Promises (milk & dark)
- Red Vines (and black vines)
- Gummis
- Sour Gummis
- Hot Tamales (cinnamon)

Things I'm considering for this year:

- Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- Malted Milk Balls
- Sour Hearts (vegan)
- Chick-o-Sticks or Peanut Butter Bars (vegan)
- Runts
- M&Ms
- Coffee Rio or Coffee Nips
- Bull's Eyes (Caramel Creams)
- Lollipops

Mmmm! I loved the Candy Blox from last year! I'm asking my son to help me plan a small creation so I can build it and have him there with me in spirit!

The caffeinated marshmallows were excellent, and Mike and Ikes are just as awesome as Hot Tamales!

As an aside, JustBorn (Hot Tamales, Peeps, Mike & Ikes) is a company based in my region. I don't happen to have any connections there, but if I can be of help accumulating candy goodness on this end, just give me a yell!

Yes please, to the candy blox. I didn't even know they still made those things!

Myself, being from Pennsylvania, anything from Hershey will be greatly appreciated and welcomed (and devoured).

But, if I had to choose the one thing that keeps me going, Tootsie Roll Midgees. I think I eat a bag a week by myself (and that's only because I buy one bag a week).

I've always been a fan of chocolate covered fruits and nuts because it makes me think I'm eating healthier.

And Reese pieces!

But yes, to M&Ms and add my vote to the chocolate covered pretzels!

Ok, I'll counter the chocolate covered pretzels with chocolate covered, peanut butter filled, pretzels... ;-) And let's clarify the sour gummies to everyone's favorite Sour Patch Kids. Runts would be great - but chewy Runts are even better. Of course pretty much anything chocolate covered will be great - be it fruit, nuts, or oddities like chocolate-covered bacon. (Yes it sounds horrible but tastes unbelievably good!)

We used to have a business called the Candy Factory here where i live and they had these candy pieces that were grapefruit slices and they were amazing! (this coming from someone who doesn't like anything grapefruit)
Chocolate covered pretzels are amazing, so are chocolate covered cranberries and raisins and chocolate covered gummi bears. . . pretty much chocolate covered anything.
I once had chocolate covered oreos, those were good. M&M's are a yes, I prefer chewy things, but runts are good. Peanut butter bars sound good. I'm willing to try bulls eyes though i like cow tails better.
I have a diabetic friend who loves raisinets. I'll ask her what else she can suggest.
Not really sure if this counts as a candy, but trail mix. Normal trail mix is good, but having other stuff in it like buttersctoch pieces, white chocolate bits and cranberries or golden raisins is pretty good.
I'm so excited about going! Everything sounds so breathtaking and awesome.

Hey! So, well, my tastes in candy aren't anything too fancy, but I thought I'd share what I usually like.

Anything chocolate with REALLY sweet centers. (Cadbury is good for this.)

Fruity chewy bites. (Like Starburst, opal fruits, that kind of thing.)

Looking forward to trying whatever you get!

Speaking as a diabetic, as much as I love love love the chocolate and sweets, I have to be a little careful around this. I don't know how many others you might have with this same issue but Russell Stovers does put out some nice sugar free chocolate turtles that are pretty easy to find in most parts of the country. Also, there is a Caterina's Candies in the John Wayne airport - I don't know if its a chain or not, but they have really great sugar free chocolates if they are.

I will probably bring my own fruits and nuts though so don't feel obligated if I am the only diabetic there. I can manage my own.

A fellow vegan! YAY! I don't do much processed food/sugar anymore, but hey, what the hell, this is one night a year. I am going to second the 'all the vegan stuff'!! Especially anything vegan + chocolate. I'm not a big fan of hard candy, but I do looooove chocolate. :D

Chocolate covered pretzels, nerd ropes (nerds on red licorice), M&Ms, sour patch kids, skittles, and dove candies are all great.

My writing fuel of choice is a little peculiar - it's chocolate covered ginger pieces. The only place I've been able to find 'em is at Trader Joe's. (the little tubs of candies along the frozen foods aisle). I'll have my own stash with me, but it'd be great to be able to reload at the candy buffet.

Tootsie pops are always great. They last a little longer than tootsie rolls (so i won't eat so many!) and are great for hands-free eating.

I also like peanut butter chocolate anything. Mini Reese cups are awesome! And those York bites. Actually, anything with chocolate will make me a happy camper, though things like gummy worms are fun too.

I'm not into chocolate (and allergic to most of it, being that it contains soy) -- as in, I only eat white chocolate and that without soy is impossible. I've found like, one brand haha.

But I do love:
Starburst
Caffenated Marshmallows
Skittles
Red vines
Red sweedish fish (my fav haha)
Pixi Sticks
Those wax bottles filled with the liquid

Yes, I love such little kid type candy. :-)

At the buffet they had red vines, gummi bears, caramels, lots and lots of dove chocolates, sour patch kids. . . I'm trying to remember other stuff that was on it. It was a central table in two tiers with several bowls of each kind of candy on it. The official list is about two posts up on this thread but I don't have a picture.

Here's my pictures from last year: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150645977018327.478412.547178326&type=3

There are some pics of the candy buffet as we were setting it up. :) (Lots of behind the scenes footage in there, too!)
