I went through the pages, but I don't think this topic exists yet. Anyway ... Do you get aroused physically when you write sex scenes? I do, I can't help it. Maybe because I get to write down sexual fantasies, and my characters are pretty much like me (only more attractive, better socially, and on the whole just ... better), so I get to have sex vicariously through them. ;) So, how about you?
Yes, I do! I read a guide on writing erotica several years ago claiming that you shouldn't be turned on while you're writing sex scenes, but that's one of the silliest rules I've ever heard. I figure if it doesn't excite me, I'm not doing it right, you know? ;)

*lol* Even MINE are more ... appealing and ... engaging *snickers* and I usually don't have it with sex scenes. However, for this NaNo they were necessary and it was both fun and embarrassing to write them. Fun, because I enjoyed it ;D when writing them, and embarrassing after rereading them yesterday. *lol*
*laughs* If you do not get aroused, is it worth writing? :D
I think it's a good lesson for other writing. The purpose of writing is to force a reaction emotionally. Arousal is I dare say easier than other emotions and physical responses to trigger, but all scenes ought to make the reader feel, ideally with a similar intensity. Although that's probably not always achievable consistently.
Yeah, usually, except when I write from my MMC's perspective. Then when I go back to edit stuff in I'm sure to make it sexier for extra measure, just in case. ;D
There is a similar thread a bit down, just less obviously named. ;) It asks if you get "distracted" as opposed to aroused. Anyway, on one of my scenes I was writing it at work, so I made a special point of not being aroused. Which I'm afraid may have hurt the scene. I'll go back over it sometime and sex it up if I need to. The next sex scene that happened to get itself written at work I didn't worry as much about getting aroused as I did about getting caught getting aroused. I think it turned out better.
Nope, I do not. I suppose its because its my own writing and so there is a total absence of anticipation or curiosity since I'm planning all the details of it.
And I certainly don't believe there is anything wrong with not becoming aroused like some have light heartily suggested or that its somehow an indication of having written a cold or stiff erotic scene. Likewise, I don't believe there is anything wrong with becoming aroused while writing the scene. I can see why some writers might be aroused by that aspect of control and the ability of exploration during the writing process. Imagination can be a powerful thing! Or writers who just plain become excited in general while writing anything erotic or sensual. However, for me writing a sex scene is like writing a fight scene or a scene where characters are having a conversation.
Yes, each time I write or elaborating a scene. I may sound perverse and I don't understand but I seems to be in a horny period. Writing a erotica story seems to do that on me, I feel more aroused. It's the first year that I do it and the first time ever that I do so many sex scene. Last year, I had done one or two for my story. It was hot but this year, it seems to be a long sensual, sexual sex scene all along. It's just in the beginning of the story that I was less aroused as I was making things fall into places and getting things going on. Now, my engine is started and is full speed ahead.
I cry with my characters, I laugh with my characters, I grief and get happy with them - I share their emotions in myself so I naturally get horny when they do, too.
I usually get more aroused planning sex scenes than writing them, but it usually does get me aroused a little bit. One time, when I was travelling with my boyfriend and a friend of his, I was writing a sex scene while having breakfast by myself, and then the friend showed up and it definitely felt to me like he had caught me doing something naughty, even though he had no idea.
I definatly get aroused when I write a sex scene, I generally have to do some research with my girlfriend. She is also writing a NaNoWriMo selection. We read our stories back and forth and sometimes have to stop for research. I might be motivated by having sex with her. Her stories are not generally sexual in nature, but do include sex on occasion.
I definitely get aroused while writing or 'researching' sex scenes. This is the main reason that my husband is so supportive of my doing nanowrimo. He looks forward to November more than I do. XD
Apparently I answered this elsewhere but not here.
Yes, that's how I know they're good. I don't get very aroused in retrospect though, when I reread, although I do when I read other people's erotica a second or third time. I guess I remember the thoughts writing it, and it doesn't feel fresh. My boyfriend reads them over and over though, and I've had some good comments on things I post, so I assume it's not just me doing it wrong. Some girl told me it made her come, yay?
Of course I get aroused. Otherwise I can't write sex scenes, or (even worse) they turn out "IKEA erotica". The same goes for fight scenes. But then, my novel runs on pure concentrated passion as rocket fuel.

So, how about you?
Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
Yes. That's what makes writing them so ... hard.

Well that's just absurd! I think that author is just doing it wrong.
Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
Agreed. That author probably writes some very sad erotica.
Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
He put it in her. She liked it. "Yes, that's nice," she said.
"Thank you," he said.
"Okay, I'm done now," she said after a couple minutes.
"As am I." They got up to make some toast.

We so need a like button.

haha, I agree with Ramzuiv...a like button is a def need right now!

Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
I've mentioned this before, but I had to put down the thesaurus in the middle of writing a sex scene. How could you not be aroused?

Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
No, but I do find myself happy while writing a good one.
Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
I actually wrote a sex scene in front of my boyfriend and awesome things happened.
Needless to say, I get some enjoyment out of writing sex scenes. It also makes for a much more vivid descriptor.

Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
Most of ... I mean, all of my NaNo wins were because of lots and lots of sex scenes. And yes, I get aroused when I write them. LOL
Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
Yup. If I can't arouse myself, how can I expect to arouse my readers? That's how I see it. ;-)

Re: Do you get aroused when you write sex scenes?
Of course.
If it doesn't arouse me the scene isn't well-written.
