I had a plan, and even started doing the research for it. Then I went to the Sea Life Centre and got an amazing view of the sharks, and my brain is going, "How about I do a story about something underwater instead?" Oops. :P
I have a plan of sorts. Most of it is swirling around my head at every available day dream moment but I've got my notebook and iPhone glued to me for note taking when I get a fab idea.
I'm currently on holiday in a fairly remote area visiting family and I thought I was going to be able to have loads of time to chill and plan and outline everything but I haven't had a minute!! And I'm currently looking at the date and freaking out. :(((( ahhhhhhh. Also, I wish I could make the intro meets but I'll still be up in bonnie Scotland till the wee hours of Monday morning. Never mind, shall see you all next week I hope!
I'll be writing the back story to the characters I wrote about last year, LOADS of ideas but need to get the concordance sorted out so what they are/do/say ties up with what they do/are/say in the other book as I don't fancy re-writing it
Plan... i ought to write one of those. =p Um, i think i may write up an idea i've been looking at doing for a while but i'm still not sure. I really need to get a move on, i've sort of run out of time a bit. =3
Sorry for the double post but i have a question. Is it better to start something completely new (or something thats been just an idea for a while) or to carry on with something older (which has been dragging and taking a long time to get on with) and just count the amount that's written in November? I'm not really sure which to do, any suggestions anyone? =)
Start something 'new', then link it up at the end? Best of both worlds! (says Kai, the rebel at heart ;))
For the record, I'm not doing ONE story this year. Never do anyway, but I'm deliberately using the challenge to do some short story sets, each of which should exceed 50k, that have been on my books for years, and there's no better time to do em, so I'm rebelling in my own special (with a capital 4) way.
Well, starting something new is what you're technically supposed to do for NaNo. That said, if you work on something you've already started and only count what you're writing, it makes you a "NaNo Rebel". There's a forum especially for it, if you want to take a look. It's up to you, really. :)
AAAAAND to get this out of the way, because I created much shocked gasping around a table of people that mostly know me from the last couple of years - my plan... up to 35 novella length pieces, or 70 short stories, or a random blend of the two categories, with a link in sets of 12 - 24. First set is going to be based off my tarot cards (Lovecraft ones, naturally) and all horror, second set is dystopia and rebellion, third set is called 'meet the twists' and is about all of the ways we can twist one story (in this case 'person meets person'), and the rest are going towards DarknessPd (that's the ongoing series of something like 42 books I've got set in one universe. The meaning of life is not 42, it's just currently, the meaning of all of Kai's editing time when not editing for clients). Just as a headsup - next year is my biggie. I'll have been with Nano for 10 years officially, so I'm already kinda planning for that too ;)
So with T minus 7 hours (ish) to go, i've finally decided to be a rebel this year and continue with the thing i was already writing, hopefully NaNo will give me a kick to get on with it, either that or i'll be failing somewhat miserably this year. =p
Wowee, that seems like an amazing amount to write, how much did you write last year in the end Kai? Goodluck.=)
Last year I think I cracked 225k or so. Maybe more. But I work full time as a copywriter, so I get all of that time to write, and if it's quiet like it was last year....
Well I nearly had a real plan but it is all different now. Like Rae, but with no sharks in it. (At least not yet.)
So I've got a few ideas and a basic outline of how it starts and roughly where it might go after that, although not how it ends. I've got a few characters and a parallel universe thing going on with some dodgy physics and there may also be dead(ish) people, limbo people and a man that looks like a frog. The main character is living in somebody else's body, and the somebody else is in limbo trying to figure out how to get her body back and also where her dead boyfriend went. Or something like that, anyway.
I'm daring myself to write in some silly plot elements instead of trying to be all serious and dark which means I'll be periodically shouting out for random inspiration. (For example, one of my friends has suggested I need a health and safety officer that deliberately sets up dangerous situations in order to teach people about health and safety risk, so that'll be going in somehow or other. I'm thinking he might be the frog-man.)
Ariadne, it sounds similar to what i'm doing in the sense that i also have a great deal of dead people and some people living in limbo. The health and safety officer sounds awesome. =)
Wow, i can't ever imagine login in that many words, impressive =)
So, whatcha doin?
I've got a plan, and I'm curious who else does - so, shoutout for your novels!

You guys? :)
Re: So, whatcha doin?
I have an idea and I've written some notes on my characters, and done a bit of googling but that's about it.
Re: So, whatcha doin?
I'm writing about World War 2 and have got a pretty full plan but I still need to do lots of research.

Re: So, whatcha doin?
I've had a plan for such a long time that it's grown up and had baby plans of its own. Sorted (until, of course, something distracts me).
