Re: Introduction thread

Hi. I'm Kai. I'm the VERY LOUD redhead at most of the meets, usually in one of several Nanowrimo or ML t-shirts. I've been featured on the front page when they were doing interviews, so it's quite pssoble that I'll be vaguley familiar. Just graduated (with a 2:1!) from the University of Gloucestershire with a degree that was predominantly Creative Writing but did feature me scaring the bejesus out of people with Psychology too.
I'm engaged because of the Nano - I'm published because of the Nano - it's safe to say that I think the Nano rocks, and I'm here to make it kick/prod buttock and take names for you, so if you need *anything* just ask.
Also, I do stupidly high word counts. I only get to write fiction once a year and really believe in making it count, so don't worry about my count and instead have a ball yourself.
For the first year ever, Rae is officially a Co-ML, so feel free to tag her if I'm not around - the only two days I'm currently partially available (for lo and verily, I have a smartphone and I make sure the dataplan is the best I can manage for this time of the year) is NOvember 12th for my book launch/birthday bash and November 8th, when I graduate. So, mostly, I'll answer PM's and emails. I'm also, for the first time this year, giving out my iMessage address (because it's brand new!), so if you've got an iPhone or iPad, poke me and I'll give you it.

Re: Introduction thread

Heyyy
The names Shona and I'm new to NaNo. I originally heard about it about 7 years ago when I was finishing school and starting Uni but my Uni life took over and I completely forget about it until this year when I was browsing the Rift forums, the fan fiction sub forum, and noticed a thread about NaNo and went oh damn, that's that novel thing!
Clicked the link and tada, I'm gonna write a novel! I am unbelievably excited about doing this. Since I found out about it last week I've been note taking, planning, sketching and discussing my ideas with my ever so patient man.

I'm originally from Scotland, 25, studied at Stirling Uni and graduated in English Studies. After doing many years of academic reading and writing its lovely to get into the genre I truly belong; fantasy. Im hopefully going to come to the write ins but sadly I can't make the launch get together as I'll be up in bonnie Scotland visiting the family, coming back just in time for NaNo.

I also have an iPad (which I'll be using a lot to write on and take to the write ins) and iPhone so also feel free to hit me up with you iMessage number. I work a crappy part time job which I detest while working towards grade 8 piano and then my Diploma in performance. I'm a very creative person and hate the normal 9-5 working drag. It's just not me. So I must say this is a wonderful distraction away from the mundane in my life - I think this might be just what my life needs. :)

Can't wait to meet fellow NaNos as I also don't have many friends, haha. I just haven't found any like minded people who I can connect with. /sad sack.

Good luck all and happy planning! And congrats Kai! Feels awesome to graduate :)

Aaaaaaaaaaaagghhhh!!!!!!!!!!! :D Sooooo EXCITED!!!
There. Now that's over with, I can introduce myself. I'm Rosie. I'm 16, and in my first year of college (hell, why am I even DOING this, I can barely keep up as it is!) Erhh...what to say now? Let's see- I heard about Nano through a girl I know- I've tried to spread the word but most people at my college either look at me like I'm nuts, or look away in pity. 'She's that writer girl', they must say. Even my best friend, who is as much into writing as I am, thinks I'm crazy for attempting this.

I am rather less pessmistic- actually, I'm INSAAANELY excited, as you might have gathered. And I have a damn annoying keyboard, it's starting to malfunction, so sorry if there are mistakes in this comment. Gahh. :D

I live in Stroud (y'know, that hippy place?) I would llluuurrrvvvee to come to the write ins, all you lovely writerly people sound fun and awesome, but I'm quite young and I live about 30/45 mins drive away from Gloucester, so it would have to be in the day, really. I really, really hope I can come! :)

Also, I love your red hair Kai! Red hair is awesome! And so are Scottish people, Shona! (my mum's scottish)

Ooh, and also I love ALL genres of writing (though not so keen on gore) especially romance (no story is a good story without a bit o' romance) humour and FANTASY :D

Wooooooooooooooooooo!!! :D Hyper.

Hey folks! I'm Rae, the OTHER loud redhead at most of the meets, and official co-ML this year! I'm pretty easy to pick out; I'm usually the one toting around big boxes of chocolate, extension cords, and the NaNo T-shirt of Doom (when I can get away with it). This will be my fifth NaNo, and once again, I'm not anywhere near ready to write a novel yet. Looks like I'll be making it up as I go. :)

I'm looking forward to meeting as many new people as I can and reuniting with returning NaNo-ists. If you guys need anything, feel free to ask. I can't guarantee I'll make it happen, but I'm awfully stubborn, so I'll do my best. I check the forums daily, and I just about live on the internet, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting hold of me. (Although, I will also be spending the month overloaded with sugar and caffeine. So I also can't guarantee that I'll be coherent all the time. I'll try to have at least one sugar-sober day a week, okay?) ;)

Hey everyone, my name is Louise, I am 14. I live about 20 minutes away from Cheltenham. I have been writing since I was 6, well, obviously when I was 6 my writing wouldn't have been very detailed. When I write I don't like listening to music because when I have an idea I get distracted by the song and then I can't remember it. I DO like eating chocolate though, especially Galaxy. I can't wait for Nano to begin, it will be amazing. Stressful, but good I hope.
Good luck!

Hello everyone, I'm Morgan and I'm new to Cheltenham - I only moved here a few months ago. I tried NaNo for the last two years and now I want to make it third time lucky! I want a NaNo hoodie but I'm only going to order one when I win (as I will deserve it then!)... I've been waiting 3 years! Although this time I *HAD* planned to do all my plotting in October and haven't done a thing yet, it crept up on me! So not a good start, but I'll make up for it by Nov 1st!

(also I want to try to be sociable with this year, I've never gone to NaNo meet ups before and I'd love to try - 3 kids though, so could be logistically tricky)

The very best of luck to us all, each and every one!

Weekend meets are designed to be as kid freindly as we can manage in coffee shops and usually involves lots of games and the kids swiping my phone and iPad (my pair being ringleaders in that, it has to be said).
It's important to us that everyone gets a fair shake at attending, so if there's some meet that you want us to try running, we can see whether it can be arranged :)

Re: Introduction thread

Hey everyone - hate to be predictable, but my goodness, red is popular among writers at the moment... stop stealing my hair colour everyone! (Well, mine in that I bought it out of a bottle, anyway.) This is a very girly thread! I wonder if the blokes will look at it and go "Well, it all seems to be about the hair. Best not go there."

Um, yes, introduce one's self. Right, onto that. I'm Amaryllis, first year of NaNo. Have 3 children, the oldest (9) is doing it with me (she's aiming for 3000 words and I've lost track of her plot already). I'm a chronic 'unfinished stories' writer - I start them, and then half way through start picking holes in everything, get disheartened, and shelve it. So I'm hoping NaNo will break me of that habit. I'm not worried about the word count bit, although putting the actual time aside can be tricky for me, but I'm hoping that the deadlines will help me focus on making time for writing.

Otherwise, I have a blog I probably won't be updating at all for the next month, make corsetry and other items of tailored clothing (including the odd wedding dress), write the occasional article and/or review for a small luxuary lingerie brand, and drink far too much coffee. I'm also on a diet and detox during November, so hopefully won't be drinking too much coffee. Although, I may be being overly ambitious.

Hi all, i'm Leonie, 24, recurrent menace to writing software everywhere. I love to write but don't get to do it a lot, so nano is going to be a treat for me. It would be great to pop along to a meet up some time!

There is a book that I have had mapped out in my head for about a year now that is just dying to make its way to paper... Nano couldn't come at a better time.

See you all around, I hope!

Hi, I'm Bob. I went to a couple of the meets last year, and they were awesome, so I'd encourage everyone to go! :D

I'm 17 and in the Upper Sixth, and I'm more of a screenwriter than novelist. So I use NaNo as an opportunity to waste a month...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to NaNo '11, and I hope to get to some of the meets with my purple laptop.

I didn't come to any meets last time, but I'll try doing one or two this year, it would be nice to meet some new faces :)

HI all, I'm Angela.

This is my second year and last year I "won" with 60k word count but never actually finished the story. It's nice to see some names I recognise as well as some new people who I hope to see at the meets. Yay!

This year I'm hoping to both win AND write "The End" at the end..... :)

I have a daughter who is 6 and will also be joining us at all the Gloucester weekend meets.
She wrote and won last year - her target was 150 words. This year her target is 600 words.

Hi, I'm Heather.

This is my first year, and I'm an academic and mother of 2 (7 and 3 years old). For work, I have to write 2 book chapters and 3 journal articles by Christmas, so I'm realistic about what I can achieve this first time (didn't really plan my writing workload around NANO...), but this is a great way to force me to find the time to work on my novel idea. We'll see how it goes..won't know unless I try! :)

Hi, I'm Neal,

Think I did this intro thing last year, when I had a go at this for the first time, and just managed to squeeze in a win. Is it a new site each year? It all starts a fresh by the look of things.

After last year, however much I enjoyed it, I said to myself that it was a one off which I wouldn't be doing again. Since, I have spent my little free time out and about away from the screen as much as possible, as my work involves being at a screen for much of the time, and I have written nothing substantial in the way of fiction since this time last year. But I gave in to doing again this year almost at the last moment, as I have lots of experiences from over the last year which I can use, I feel this year may be a little easier for me. Started well for me so far, compared to last year anyway.

Don’t know if I will make meets due to work. It would be nice to squeeze one in before month end though.

Here's to an awesome month ahead, have fun everyone! ^_^

Hiya! Wasn't going to post here then I saw the sheer number of red heads and got a tad excited :}

I'm Zoe, 16, and I too have red hair; of the extremely fluffy, slightly insane variety. I'm doing my first proper Nano this year (Last year failed VERY badly due to exams and such) so now I'm determined to win and make it the strangest story going.
So far on 2000 words, but I'm going for the slow and steady approach as I have a lot of coursework to fit in between, yay!

I wish you all luck, and hope to make a meet at one point or another to meet y'all :}

Hi All, I'm Henry (not my name but I borrowed my horses name - I'm pretty sure he won't mind). I am a woman and do not have red hair. It is black, from a bottle...

This is my very first NaNo!! Friends have done it before and have forced me to do it this year. Slightly nervous as I work very long hours, much of which are spent typing reports of upwards of 30k words. So I will probably end up with claws for hands by the end of the month!!

I tend to start really well, firing words out (I have been known to type 4000 words in a lunchtime) but always stall and run out of energy. So, I'm embracing NaNo as an opportunity to really get to grips with my chick lit novel and try to get past the first few chapters...

I'd love to attend a Cheltenham meet at some point!

i don't even have a nom de plume/sobriquet/pseudonym. what you see is what you get. am i the only one from stroud here? :D
i'm not going to mention hair, either, as we could be here all day listening to a mind-numbing symposium re my follicular history & its inherent challenges. suffice to say, i have a bit of a mohawk at the moment & it may be making an appearance at some of the gloucester write-ins.
anywaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, this is my second nanowrimo. managed to complete in 2009, but skipped last year due to roller derby commitments. knee injury has freed me up to struggle through this year &, thus far, i'm extremely excited about getting all these swimming ideas fastened down into words on pages. :)
nice to meet everyone...

Hi everyone, I'm Pawpads, and yes, people do call me that (and Paws) and I even answer to it. I fear that that says far too much about me.

I've taken part in NaNo twice before but this is the first time that I've ever joined in properly. The previous two times, I've just written for myself. I had totally forgotten about this but was reminded today, so today is my first day, but the amount that I've written so far has really cheered me up.
I'm hoping to be able to make a meet or two, but don't hold me to that.

Oh, and I have fake red hair too.
