EVENT: London Literary Lock-In, Big Green Bookshop, Wood Green, Sat/Sun, November 26th & 27th, 6:30pm-6:30am
Similar to “The Night of Writing Dangerously”, we will be holding our own evening Nano affair. However, instead of just a few hours, we’re planning to write all night!
DETAILS: This will be similar to a regular write-in, but last a whole lot longer. Expect there also to be a bit more of a party atmosphere, especially as it gets later in the night and people get tired. In addition to lots of writing, there will be games, prizes and plenty of other fun to be had as we write our way through this twelve-hour challenge.
We know twelve hours is a long time to stay` and that many people live far away. This isn’t a “lock-in” in the literal sense of the word, so feel free to just come for a short time if you prefer. It would help us if you noted that on the FB event wall or forum thread, but it’s not required.
The bookshop is open until 6pm on the Saturday, so if you would like to come early and browse, feel free. We will be in there from 6-6:30 setting up.
We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits, but feel free to bring your own food and drinks above and beyond that. Keep in mind that the Big Green Bookshop is a local business that is generously letting us use their space, so we want to work on keeping it clean and tidy. You can eat in the bookshop, but just be respectful of your environment. In the spirit of this, we’d like to ask for a suggested £5 donation to go towards renting the space and also buying prizes and snacks. Any money remaining at that point will be donated to the general Nanowrimo fund. Be aware that this donation is in no way mandatory, nor is £5 the exact amount you need to give. You are free to attend the event regardless.
If you want to get any sleep during the night, you’re welcome to bring blankets/pillows/sleeping bags, but it’s not required. We will also bring a few of our own and create a crash-out corner. However, the bookshop is just one big room, so it’s not going to be an atmosphere geared towards getting a lot of sleep!
Minors (18 and under) can attend this event only if accompanied by a parent/guardian/chaperone over the age of 21. Please let us know ahead of time if this pertains to you.
I really want to go!! And stay the whole night, but I'm under 18, and therefore i need a guardian or parent with me, and like...I know no- one above the age of 18 who is willing to stay with me for 12 hours whilst i write til my hearts content . I've approached my parents about this, and they both say Nope. But i desperately want to go D: Any ideas??
Just a few last minute things! 1) We’ve got almost six hours of solid sprints planned during the night, interspersed with games and breaks. The first sprint will start at 730. 2) There will be games! Please come ready to participate and have fun. :) We want you to get writing done but we also don’t want you to burn out. 3) Remember to bring food with you. There is also a Sainsburys and a McDonalds near the shop. We’ll provide tea/coffee/hot chocolate. 4) No alcohol please. We have some minors attending and also we’d prefer you caffeinated and ready to write, rather than boozy and drowsy. :) 5) If anyone was considering it, pajamas are welcome! I know I'm planning on wearing mine. :)
(Writing under the stars - yes that's fine. Have her/his parents given her/him permission to come though?)
Thanks SO MUCH to everyone who came to the 1st annual London Literary Lock-In! We had 41 participants, writing for 5.5 hours of sprints, with an amazing 232,748 words written! (And five people who reached 50k!)
