I wanted to create a place where we can all shout about how pleased we are about any aspect of nanowrimo at any point along the way.
So if an amazing character has just appeared out of the blue or you are writing some killer prose, shout about it here.
I'll start; I have reached my target today despite working, having three kids off school, being ill and going to a bonfire display. Really pleased with myself I'm feeling really motivated and excited for what's to come...
Did two write-ins today, made an excellent start (was going to put my wordcount then realised we don't have to as the forum software does it for us), and it's flowing well. :-)
I've been getting up at 04:55 each morning to get a head start on my writing, and have neither fallen asleep during class nor lost the will to live... yet!
one of the characters who has been hogging the dialogue for most of my efforts so far has only ever gone by El Presidente. I'm not sure I intend to reveal his name, as he is about to die anyway!
If it's at all possible to go without mentioning his name, then leave it out altogether. It'll add a sense of mystery. My main character is only ever referred to by a pseudonym, the same pseudonym that I'm writing this post under. You never find out his real name. He has one, but that is a secret I will never reveal.
My protagonist is a con man so goes by several names, none of which are true. Also the plot has his home destroyed so all evidence of his real life is lost as well.
Happy with my word count (although it always slooooows down after a week!) and yesterday I discovered a sub-plot that explains the motivation of one of my main characters - whoop!
I've made a really slow start so far, but I've been sitting on this idea for over a year now and I'm massively pleased with my prologue even if I'm going to have to write like a mad woman to catch up with the word count once things start to flow!
My two main characters have a really weird relationship and interact in a way I totally wasn't expecting, but it's really working. I'm really enjoying writing them because it means I get to see them interact more.
I'm liking the first two days of Nano. 8030 words in two days. Sadly that will be the end of my two write-ins a day stretch, so productivity will drop off after this, but great to have such an inspiring start, and I'm really enjoying my story.
I'm surprised I'm keeping up with how many words I'm supposed to be writing every day, despite having strange fainting-like spells at random times and having gone to a gig last night. Usually I'll be thousands of words behind by now.
In short, my body's got trouble assimilating sugar to begin with (not diabetes though), and I think it's my fault: I probably overdid it by only eating sweet foods in the morning then nothing (except snacks) until the evening. And of course, I did that on both Thursday and Saturday... On top of being exhausted. It hasn't happened today, if it does it again next week I will get it checked :)
:) Yeah, it's always best to make sure. (I always have to persuade myself that it's better to hear from my GP that it's nothing serious than to worry on my own. Probably something to do with the attitude to patients in the (then communist) country where I grew up in.)
I've realised that if you mix white wine (third of a glass) and boost (or any kind of own brand red bull - two thirds) it makes you 200 percent more creative and more motivated. Goes great with Haribo's. I'm probably going to get a nobel prize for this one. It doesn't get you tipsy but it should help to muzzle any inner editors. TRY IT (but stop if your heartbeat becomes irregular)

In my case, it's coffee. Having abstained from all caffeine for about two years, just one coffee (instant) in the morning gives me one hell of a kick! However empty my head is beforehand, the coffee sparks writable thoughts - in tandem with a 'What the hell!' feeling. It switches my inner editor right off - which in my case is essential to progress. (It's the reason I'm doing NaNoWriMo in the first place.) Of course, dependence on any stimulant is ultimately unhealthy ... I just hope I don't graduate to the white wine and Red Bull substitute at 6 a.m. before the novel is finished. ("That first puff/sip/snort is the preliminary step on the slippery slope to hell, m'boy ..." etc.)
My priest seems to have underlying Mummy issues, which is bad for him, because it is likely to cause him to try things on with the witch he will meet when he is no longer stuck at sea with a crew who want to sacrifice him for favourable winds.
Hi,
I wanted to create a place where we can all shout about how pleased we are about any aspect of nanowrimo at any point along the way.

Anyone else?
What a brilliant idea!
2.4k in, and my female protagonist has only thought of her womb once. I'm doing this right, eh?
Did two write-ins today, made an excellent start (was going to put my wordcount then realised we don't have to as the forum software does it for us), and it's flowing well. :-)
Got another two write-ins tomorrow ...
I’m 4.5k in and I haven’t murdered any of the characters yet.
Oh and I actually wrote for once instead of playing ball with the dog all day.
I've been getting up at 04:55 each morning to get a head start on my writing, and have neither fallen asleep during class nor lost the will to live... yet!
This is a good idea - I start school tomorrow (half term) and I didn't know how I was gonna manage - I'm barely hitting the pars everyday as it is!
Managed 900 words yesterday during my lunch break (and part of my afternoon) and still did all my work by 4pm! Win.
I'm particularly pleased with my Colonel's moustache. It gives him real character.
Also, I'm trying to see how many chapters I can go without having to mention the Colonel's name. It's going to be fun.

Yesterday I managed to come up with a vague plot and some words. That's good enough to be getting on with! ;o)
I've made a really slow start so far, but I've been sitting on this idea for over a year now and I'm massively pleased with my prologue even if I'm going to have to write like a mad woman to catch up with the word count once things start to flow!
Awful wordcount, but catching up at uni and discovering lots about my characters!
I bought lots of nice writing treats today! And my wordcount is looking alright even though writing has been slow and painful.
My two main characters have a really weird relationship and interact in a way I totally wasn't expecting, but it's really working. I'm really enjoying writing them because it means I get to see them interact more.

Day 1: Finally sorted out back story and once that was in place I got off to a strong start.
Day 2: Not as strong but did get an interesting handle on a character.
Day 3: Well, who knows, but there's a write-in so there will be wine.
I'm surprised I'm keeping up with how many words I'm supposed to be writing every day, despite having strange fainting-like spells at random times and having gone to a gig last night. Usually I'll be thousands of words behind by now.
Fainting-like spells? Have you had it checked? (This is not an attempt at a lame pun on spell-checking, but a serious question.)
Haha, like the unintended pun though!
In short, my body's got trouble assimilating sugar to begin with (not diabetes though), and I think it's my fault: I probably overdid it by only eating sweet foods in the morning then nothing (except snacks) until the evening. This is the best worst advice I have ever heard.
Either you get more creative and motivated or you stop caring? Win-win. :-)

I'm 14 - if my mum asks what I'm doing, I'm just gonna tell her that this nice looking stranger on the internet said it was a good idea, so...
Lol! I second omega - best worst advice.
I ended up combining my wine with a jacket potato covered with cheese and chili. It was gorg.
I'm behind on my wordcount but this is more writing than I've done in a short space of time in YEARS.
I don't think I'll win this year but if I keep this up all month I think my Nano will still be a personal success!
My priest seems to have underlying Mummy issues, which is bad for him, because it is likely to cause him to try things on with the witch he will meet when he is no longer stuck at sea with a crew who want to sacrifice him for favourable winds.
