We have a number of weekly events planned for the wonderfully crazy month of November. So clear your diaries and pencil in the following dates (full details below):
The first get-together of NaNo 2012! This is your chance to meet and greet with your fellow Manchester writers. This year’s event will begin around 6.00pm at KRO Bar, centrally located overlooking Piccadilly Gardens. KRO offers a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (including hot drinks); hot food and snacks are also available. Links to the food and drink menus are below:
Depending on the group, it is likely that we shall move onto greener/less pricey pastures around 9.00pm. We shall, of course, keep you informed of any movement both on facebook and on the NaNo forums).
No need to bring anything with you: this is an opportunity to meet your fellow NaNoers, share plots, ideas, plans for the month ahead, success stories, questions, musings, thoughts on life, the universe and everything and anything else that pops into your head.
If anyone wants to meet up earlier, I’ll be in the Arndale Centre’s Food Court from 4.30pm – 5.15pm and will be walking up to KRO for around 5.30pm. If anyone has any questions, requires directions or would like somebody to meet them at any stage of the evening, please do contact myself (Dean) on 07752399480 and I’ll help as best as I can.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
** Daytime Write-Ins **
Every Tuesday of November (that's 4 mornings!) from 10am until 1pm. This will be at the fabulous Night & Day cafe on 26 Oldham Street, Manchester, M1 1JN. Anyone that loves music may very well know of this place from their evening band nights. It's a lovely, little bar that is very quiet during the day (though they do play music very low). They have many benches, tables, and chairs. They serve hot beverages, food, and alcohol (please bring your ID if you want to purchase!). They also have two power outlet points for those of you requiring a food source for your techno-gadgets. It can get cold, so please remember a jumper/coat/fingerless gloves. If you would like a mobile number for contact, here's mine: 07833296694 (Kelly).
Directions from Piccadilly station: >Go out the main entrance (shop front exit where Boots/WH Smith is on the inside) >Turn right (heading down the hill). >Continue in a straight line until you get to Oldham Street (you'll see Yorkshire building society on the corner opposite, as well as the old casino now boarded up with red boards). >Turn right onto Oldham Street and remain on the right hand side of the street. >Continue straight on at the crossroad. >You should see a record store and hair product shop on your left boarded with orange, on your right you'll see a sign for Dry bar. Just before Dry bar is a dark wood and dark purple fronted bar (Night & Day) - you are at your home away from home. >ENTER.
** Evening Write-Ins **
Every Friday of November (that's 5 evenings!) from 6pm until 9pm, we will be hosting an evening of writing and excessive coffee drinking at the wonderful Manchester Digital Laboratory. Many of you will be familiar with MadLab from last year's write-ins and they have graciously agreed to host us again this year. They are a non-profit organisation so if you come along, we would encourage you to leave a small donation towards their efforts. We will provide tea and biscuits but if you wish to bring along nibbles or anything else, you are more than welcome!
MadLab can be found a short walk from Piccadilly Gardens, on Edge Street (M4 1HN) between Thomas St and the Craft Centre, opposite A Bar Called Common. Alternatively, myself or one of my fellow MLs would be very happy to meet you at a more convenient location and walk with you to MadLab. Please feel free to message one of us if this would be hepful to you.
** Saturday Socials **
After a long week of writing your magnus opus, what better way to unwind and relax than with a few drinks. Each Saturday of November, we will be meeting in the sleek and shiny Kro Bar in Piccadilly Gardens at 7:30pm for drinks and some good natured banter. It is likely that we'll move on elsewhere as the evening progresses. You can contact me (Jamie) on 07502226479 throughout the evening for updates on our location, for directions, or anything else that you need!
** Member-led meetings **
These are groups hosted by fellow NaNo members. Please click on the links below for the relevant information for each event, and points of contact.
18/11 > CAKE.writers meeting, hosted by Sarah Logan, will be a mix of write-in, freewriting, short story reading and free cake. Twitter: @cakeshortnsweet / Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/541610195852695/
** Thank God It's Over **
The traditional TGIO meet will be in early December.
Meeting at 1pm at Spinningfields 3 Hardman Blvd, M3 3EB Manchester.
>Ice skating/hanging out at the lodge >Christmas market for mulled wine/cherry beer/hot chocs >Nandos >Evening bevvies
Hi there! Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Somehow your message slipped through my NaNo net. Unfortunately the bar requires ID on a Saturday evening. We do however have two write-in events each week which are open to all ages. Additionally, the TGIO party at the end of this crazy month will be open to under-18s as well.
Hi Luna! The write-ins are informal gatherings of NaNo writers in Manchester, where we all meet up and get some words on the page. We write, we drink coffee, we chat and bounce ideas off of each other. We're a friendly bunch and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere, so if you're interested in coming along to one - please do!
Apologies for the delay on this - I've updated the initial post to reflect the confirmed venue and time for the Kick-Off Party. It will indeed be held on Friday 26 October (this Friday) and we're starting at KRO Bar in Piccadilly Gardens from 6.00pm.
I'm looking forward to the kick off! Just a quick question about the evening write ins (and I suppose it includes Friday as well) - I work in the back end of Trafford so can't guarantee getting into Piccadilly for 6 on the dot. Does it matter if I drop in when I can make it - or will that disrupt people's writing mojos? :P Thanks!
As with any of the planned evenings/days, you can turn up whenever it's convenient. A mobile number will be provided for each session so that you can get in touch if you'd like an update on location, if you're having difficulty finding the place, or running late.
Hoping to be there on Friday. I'm in work until 8, but if we're quiet I've arranged to finish at 7. The fun bit should be that I'm meant to be back at work at 9 the following morning. Managed to work a shift pattern out with my boss which means I'll be able to make the write-in's. Just a shame I'm in Germany for the last write-in and TGIO, but I'm not sure my friend would appreciate me putting the holiday back a week, somehow.
I'm supposed to finish work at 19:00 but it's usually later... and I'm back in for 08:00 on Saturday.... We'll see how the day goes.... and then it's just trying to work out what a bunch of NaNoWriMoers look like!
(It's more fun trying to guess than going straight for the phone.)
I hope you're able to join us. We will have "NaNoWriMo" tent cards on the tables and I will be sporting a NaNo t-shirt so you should be able to find us.
If in doubt shout "Free Plot Bunnies!" and see which group comes running :D
We're usually the ones looking a little flustered, with laptops/pads and pens. I think, as a group, we're pretty damn easy to find. For the socials though, I think that is pot luck! haha.
Oh man, won't be able to make the kick-off party, got a job interview (awwww yeaaah) at like 5, in Hyde. Have a good one guys, I'll be there for some of the write-ins for sure.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Kick-Off yesterday. It was great to see so many faces from last year and so many new faces too! I have lots of stickers and postcards left over which I will be bringing to the write-ins so please grab some when you see me! :) Only 5 days to go now folks!
It sure is! From the station exit (next to WHSmith), head straight up the road until you reach Piccadilly Gardens. The place we're meeting is immediately across the road, on the left-hand side as you reach the Gardens. It's literally less than a five minute walk. I hope that helps.
Oh I just realized some of you guys meet up thats amazing =D ummmm...theres a meeting this saturday right how do we know who others are? I would like to talk to someone about this please
Hi there! Being a Saturday night, I can appreciate that finding a group of novelists amongst the swarms of Mancunians can be a challenging task! I'll be there with a fairly noticeable green hoody and my fingerless gloves so hopefully I should be findable! My number is 07502226479, so please feel free to text/call if you're unable to find us and I'll point you in the right direction or come meet you somewhere more convenient and bring you over - whatever is easiest for you!
Thank you to everyone who came to the write-in on Friday and the social tonight. It was great to see you all! Eagerly looking forward to next week's events.

Not at all. You're welcome to arrive any time you like!
The write-ins run until 9pm and the socials/KO will likely run until the last person leaves, so just swing by whenever you can :) See you on Friday!
