so. my word today is: nyctophobia. \nik-tuh-FOH-bee-uh\. :) which means: fear of night or darkness. the word stems from the greek nyktos- meaning night and phobia meaning fear. god i love etymologies. okay, so here's another one: nyctophilia. love of night and darkness. aaaaand here's a shakespeare quote, cause that's what i like to do.
"Come, gentle night; come, loving black-browed night, Give me my Romeo, and when I shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun." -Juliet, Romeo & Juliet, 3:2
and yes, my book is about night and darkness. bye!

Ada, You are such a joy!
The composition of our lounge group is uncanny: love of etymology (I prefer words with Greek roots .),light & dark, Shakespeare!!
I propose a Challenge, and a uniting one at that: I challenge every writer in our group to use each new word in at least one sentence during our month of writing. If we allow ourselves this exercize, there will be common vocabulary-sparkles in all of our singular novels.

Hi, all, Wow, I'm so impressed by you all! Lots of amazing progress. You are all writing superstars!
I wrote 1,722 words on the first day. Yesterday, I spent the entire day flying to Mumbai. Bleeah. I took my laptop out intending to write on the plane, but ended up watching movies and reading magazines instead. So much for good intentions!
I'm off to try to make up some time. Keep writing!

OMG Steph!!! Do you ever sleep??? I painfully went over 5k today, I plan on writing more, but with the good old pen and paper in my bed! XD
(I tell you, work is a waste of time... I haven't reach my 1k target today yet! <= this is pure frustration. However, I'm starting to be an expert on polar stations... if somebody is interested...)

Hi Suzanne,
Odd, but nifty...I also said "oh, brother, work is such a waste of time!!!" today. I am going to try 4500 this evening. Let you know later.
Just had a really good start on the first day and I'm trying to keep up writing at least the daily word count. Maybe a little more over the weekend again if the muse can be tickled into cooperating.
I do agree though, work is quite the waste of time sometimes, especially when it comes in the way of NaNo!
Thanks :) Finally, I could write in the train. It's really uncomfortable (the regional trains in the Vosges are very shaky) but I managed to cross the 5K threshold. Woo-hoo!

8.849 words until now! 8D I have not a word, but an expression, a medical term: Bipolar Disorder.
It's a mental disorder characterized first by extreme good (mania) and bad (depression) moods and secondarily (often overlooked!) by the conflict between the reality of the sufferer (influenced by the moods) and the reality of all others (which often causes social tensions between sufferer and the public and can intensify the symptoms).

Re: The countdown is ON! (counting hours, days and words...)
Hello Demoiselle,
I count, you count, we count. Great idea.
Each of us should post a new word for the betterment of our vocabulary. The must not necessarily be in English.
My word for the day is : augean, adj meaning extremely difficult, unpleasant, or filthy.
If one word is offered per day then we'll have 30 new spiffy words in whatever vocabulary.
Who's game for this?
Re: The countdown is ON! (counting hours, days and words...)
can i make the word for tomorrow? i've got a good one. ;)
yesterday was great!
ok bye i've got some writing to do!

Re: The countdown is ON! (counting hours, days and words...)
One of my favourite passages from Shakespeare!
Fitting perfectly to your word(s) of the day :-) Nice nice!
And hooray for the stats, it seems like so, so many words when it's all thrown in together.
Re: The countdown is ON! (counting hours, days and words...)
No fancy words yet, sorry :( but a Word Count of 3.381. Not bad for the beginning. 8D
Re: The countdown is ON! (counting hours, days and words...)
Wow great choice of words!! I might actually write them down not to forget them! :)
OK 281 words written this morning, and 1h12 before the meet-up with Mina (aka Larys)!
(and congrats on the word count Olivia! :)

Hm, I see I will have to step it up a bit :).
All, kudos on hitting the thousands-per-day level! I am truly inspired.
Yesterday, I wrote 1,748. I don't expect to write much over the weekend, so I'll have to try for more today and next week.
Suzanne, polar stations?! Intriguing.
Have a great day, and here's to forcing the muse to show up! Dawn

Hi Mina,
Don't stress over missing the write-in, though you will be missed.
Take care of yourself, write steadily and maybe you can make the next one.
I appreciate your letting me know.
All the very Best,

@Ada: Hey, now it's me who is jealous. I REALLY could have needed a couple of extra sleephours. My cats decided that I *had* to get up...
One hour to go before I head off to jump on the train! Getting quite bouncy again!
