Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

Dear Luxembourg WriMos,

Finally, some dates for you all to ponder.

As I filled in the subject line, I thought that it would be nice to meet for a coffee, etc, even before the Kick Off Meeting.
If any one would like to meet this coming Sunday morning. I think that the Table du Pain in the City-Centre is open Sunday mornings. I'll check and let you know. Please shout if you are interested.

As for the Kick Off Get Together, I suggest 19.30 on Saturday, 22 October at Il Pavone, 73 rue de Gasperich, L-1617 Luxembourg-Gasperich. This is a spacious Italian restaurant, where I can arrange a quiet corner for our group. Please, let me know by 19 October so that I can make the necessary arrangements. This gathering is meant to be informal with each person paying their own way. Please feel free to bring your spouse, significant other, best friend or in the case of "tvforchickens" a parent. I will just need to know how many attendees for the reservation.

Time for bed now.
Hope you are all getting psyched-up for THE event!
All the Best,
Yvonne

Hello Yvonne,

Lovely, lovely. I'm in for both! (and coming on my own for both) Just let me know what time you want to meet for the coffee.

What is parking like around the Il Pavone? Is it only wherever you can get a spot along the street or is there an actual parking space somewhere close by?
Thanks for the info.

And thanks for organising all of this! So looking forward to it :-)

Re: Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

Hello Steph,

Great to see you in the forum.
Btw, your phoenix avatar is a supreme knock-out!

Hooray! I am glad that you are in for both. I'll probably come by myself, though my daughter my tag along. She's cool about writing, plus she likes breakfast and Il Pavone. I just checked for Table du Pain, avenue Monterey. According to Editus, it is open on Sunday from 7-7pm. I am usually a morning person, but try to avoid overkill. Would 9 am be too early?

Parking & Il Pavone: Great question! No, they do not have a parking lot. But, there is parking along the street, or if you continue up rue de Gasperich, there are usually parking spaces around the parish church. Parking shouldn't be a problem.

My inner conviction is guiding me in honing my organizational skills. The weeks and days leading up to November 1st evokes the same inner exhilaration I used to experience on Christmas-Eve in light of the atmosphere of anticipation and suspense, like holding your breath until either your lungs burst, or you burst out laughing.
I do appreciate your kind words. It is uplifting to have our Sunday meeting to look forward to.

Have a pleasant evening!

All the Best,
Yvonne

Re: Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

Good morning,

Thanks ^-^ I found that phoenix picture a few years ago when I was desperately browsing the net to find a decent phoenix picture to get a necklace made, but none of the designs appealed to me for a piece of jewellery, even though there were a few very nice pictures around.

9am is absolutely fine with me. That leaves me enough time to get to town and get up at a not quite inhumane hour ;-) I'm not really one for laying around in bed all day long. Even though I waste away most of my time in front of the computer hehe. But really, I am up by that time anyways most weekends, and wouldn't be able to sleep longer for the excitement anyways. It's been quite a while since I've met up with people I have never met before ;-)

Well as long as there is /some/ parking available around the restaurant, that would be good. Oh, right there's a church near by, so there should definitely be some parking that does not involve sideways parking (how I love it..) hehe.

True, true! The excitement is starting to grow daily and I keep having ideas for the novel, though I still haven't been able to bring myself to actually properly reread what I've written last year so I can continue. Ah well, sooner or later that will happen! It's a good thing that November 1st is a bank holiday as well!!! Hoping to get lots and lots of writing done on that first day. If I'm in any way as lucky as I was for Camp NaNo, then I'll have 5k words in by the end of the first day, which would be a very nice start.

Have a nice day,
Steph

Re: Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

Good Evening Steph,

I am really pleased that 9 am works with you.

Absolutely, meeting some one sight unseen for the first time usually gets the curiosity up and running.
You won't have any trouble spotting me. ...my avatar is not an avatar, just me. Just in case I arrive first, I'll have a littlle
something on the table to ID me as connected to NaNoWriMo. I am really looking forward to meeting you in person.

Yes, yes, to good old bank holiday on November 1. I like this aspect of living where we do very much. HaHa!
I am torn between which novel I should write. One is already completely written in my head and that other part of the human
being, the unseen world where one is "at home". Some people call it the psyche. I don't have a name for it, other than something like "creative eye" or "filter". You cannot smell it, touch it, nor see it, but it is omnipresent. I drive my family nuts whenever I broach this subject. So, I write!! The other idea is the one I have indicated under my NaNo profile. However, it is a story that I feel in my bones, yet have not put into any order other than a pseudo plot. I am not sure yet.

5K words in a day ...very impressive. My game plan is to write like crazy on Nov 1st ( yep, I will indeed start at 0.01). After which I hope to keep myself to 2k each day, except during the mid-November week. You can guess what I will be doing then!!

Just a question before I sign off. Would you like me to bring a set of fliers announcing our November undertaking? I was hard at work this past week. Come Monday, I shall go in search of a sponsor, or two. Who knows, it just might appeal to a cafe owner or two.

I only started to re-read my 2010 Novel this past May. I was on sick-leave for 5 months after a gallbladder operation and had literally nothing but time on my hands. Still, I found it difficult and am still not finished. Hope springs eternal.

Now, I really do have to get to bed now. TGIF tomorrow.

Take Care and bis geschwenn!, Steph.

Yvonne

Re: Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

Hello hello,

Yes, that is the notion... TGIF! ;-)

Euh, as for bringing something.. Maybe that's not even a stupid idea. I mean my avatar doesn't really give away much about me, apart from maybe my hair colour hehe. I am rather tiny, with red hair, so shouldn't be too hard to spot on a Sunday morning, but maybe we really should put something NaNo-ish on the table for whoever arrives first. The most obvious would probably spread an insane amount of paper and noveling bits all around with NaNo logos somewhere. ;-)

The fliers would actually be a good idea. We might be able to come up with a few ideas for what to do with them over a cup of something hot. Already have an idea or two in mind... but that shall be cooked out on Sunday :-)

Hmm.. I'd go with the story that is screaming at you most to be written. Even if you have only a vague idea of a plot, the plot bunnies will guide you through as you press on through November. That's how I wrote almost always, with just an inkling, and the rest.. I'll just write wherever the bunnies take me. Which reminds me, a friend on my forum, who also does NaNo, found this awesome page to explain the various breeds of plot bunnies hehe.
http://www.wikiwrimo.org/wiki/Plot_bunny
We had quite a blast reading through those!

But I know what you mean by "creative eye". Just not really something I've ever properly thought about. I will probably go with the 2k limit a day after November 1st as well, seeing that it's not as quiet at work in winter as it is over the summer when everyone is on holiday. But it'll all go well, I'm sure! So much fun to look forward to! And I'm actually already trying to figure out what I want to eat next Saturday lol. Though I hope that some more people will respond to this thread.. o.O

Anyways, looking forward to meeting you :-)

Weekend soon!!
Take care,
Steph

Hey there, Steph,

THanks for the nice reply.
I will bring my flier-file with me tomorrow and you can take your pick. That said : I am looking forward to "cooking" with you!

Yes, the Plot Bunnies! They are quaint and helpful. Thanks for reminding me. I posted the link in our lounge, thanks to you.

THanks, for your feedback. Definitely, I am going to take the "vague" and run with it. It has been keeping me awake, so it needs to be corralled on paper.

A statistic: Before the new Nano-site we had 95 members. Now we have 92. The fact that I sent out a regional mail before the wipe may have led some WriMos to re-locate. Now of the 92 (HQ still hasn't restituted the list of members per region yet ), I have had contact with 4. So, 4 plus me = 5. That leaves 87. Hmmmmmm. Not that 87 wil RSVP for the Kick Off. Ha ha Ha!

I think that NaNo Luxembourg will remain cozy :)

Gotta go play "Taxi"

Have a lovely, sunny Saturday and I'll see you tomorrow.
Looking so forward to this event!

All the Best,

Hey hey,

hmm that's a little weird with the statistic, but ah well. Didn't really believe they'd all check the forums anyways. But I do hope that some more will reply for next Saturday! But I like that Lux NaNo will remain cozy :-)

Glad to be of a little help!

I'll send you my mobile number via mail just in case something comes up for tomorrow, short notice. You never know :-) Just so we don't leave the other person stranded.

See you tomorrow :)

Re: Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

Hi there, Steph!

I have since emailed you my number as well.

Remind me to tell you of my secret publicity "stunt" over our coffees.

Yes, the stats are weird. Before the new site launch, I went through each member out of curiosity. I was amazed to discover a small number of participant actually living in this pretty country. Ergo...we are indeed a small group and even smaller in view of active members. I imagine that we could count them on both hands, three hands at the most. I also read on one of the many forums that a great portion of the newcomers sign up at the v e r y last minute. I like cozy, too.

Since I had the private emails of three other registered WriMos, I sent them an email to "nudge" them...just in case they haven't been checking in at our lovely lounge.

So, now I will go write a bit. Not for NaNo, though. An outline for a future project which keeps popping into my head.

Have a good night and I'll see you tomorrow.

Yvonne

Re: Proposed date for our Luxembourg NaNo Kick Off Get-Together

hello,
the date is working for me.
i just had a bit of trouble with my nano account, i reckon it got lost during the october renewal or something, but i wasn't getting any mails and all my information etc. was lost so i had to create the whole account again. i don't know. is that normal? and i guess, yvonne, that i am ergo one of the 3 or so nanos from luxembourg that got lost on the way. ;)

i also wanted to ask you if you could send me the french flier as well. the ones you sent are awesome. i decided to give some to my french teacher, just to see her reaction. i am pretty sure she doesn't know about nanowrimo yet.

also, i wonder if the posts i did before my account died are still there? because the links i got in the early notification mails are not working. i am probably just deeply misunderstanding something obvious. sometimes, things like that happen.

greetings,

Hello Ada,

Great to hear from you again. I figured that something had gone awry with your profile during the merge.
Just so you know, the notifications are not working yet. So, if you need to know what is going on, just log-in and run in to our Luxembourg Lounge. You can also use the email Luxembourgnano@gmail.com should you need to contact me quickly. The other potential Nanos who got lost along the way could be participant not physically in Luxembourg.
After I sent out my very first (and only one to to date due to technical problems at HQ), I received a couple of email from people wondering why I wrote to them.

I am thrilled to read that the date (in one week!!) for out Kick Off at Il Pavone works for you.

Certainly, I will be more than happy to send to the French fliers. I will send them as pdf to your private email address. I have prepared a few other fliers, so I will send them as well. I appreciate your help with the publicity. I helps as I cannot be everywhere and besides, you have an easy access at your school.

Regarding your "lost" posts: I will see if I can locate them in emails which I saved. Since they are less than a year old, it is possible that they will find heir way back in our lounge. The issue has been tagged by the tech guys at HQ. They are working on it. There are other little bugs, but HQ will get them ironed out. They really pulled off a major feat!

So, Ada, that's all for me now. Do visit our lounge regularly. THis is the place for everything official coming HQ as well as any write-ins to be organized. Steph and I met for breakfast this morning. I had a wonderfully relaxed and interesting time with her.

Have a great week and we'll be in touch!

All the Best,
Yvonne

hmm as for the old posts before the site launch.. they might have disappeared alongside the old threads, so unless they're going to repost our threads from this month, your posts might have gotten eaten along with everyone else's.

Was indeed quite fun to meet Yvonne on Sunday, and here's hoping it will be just as fun to meet hopefully a few more of you guys on Saturday. :-)
