Hello Luxembourg WriMos!

I 'll get the introductions.

For those who don't know already, my name is Yvonne. I love writing and thank my lucky stars that we have NaNoWriMo.
I have been writing for most of my life and cannot imagine not engaging in such a noble and absolutely wonderful craft.
As soon as I saw the Municipal Liaison vacancy, the very thought spoke volumes to me. So, here I am. I hope to serve you all well.

I am a writer with a day job, two teenagers, and a husband so my ML-ing will be straight forward, simple, but consistent and heartfelt. The rest of my details can be found under my profile. Perhaps we have some things in commen.:)

With a charged battery for 30 days of unbridled fun,
All the Best,
Yvonne, your ML

Hello everyone,

For those who do not know already, my name is Stephanie. There is not too much information provided on my profile because I generally follow one simple rule: you want to get to know me, talk to me :-)

I have been writing for quite a few years, with a bit of a break in between where I completely lost my muse as I was focusing on studies. I very much enjoy the fact that I have stumbled across NaNoWriMo last year and I have to admit that I never thought it would be this much fun to try and create an awesome novel of epic proportions in just 30 days.

For starters, 50.000 words may look like a lot, but believe you me, with a bit of an idea and a hint of motivation, you'll fly past that mark in no time at all. This will be the third time I'm participating (I did Camp NaNo in August) and apart from the many words being scribbled for these novels, I roleplay a lot whenever I have free time. (working girl.. you see..)

Anyways, enjoy the trip!

Steph

Olivia44
50798 words so far Winner!

Oh yes, studies can be poison for muses, but funny enough not this time for me, so I'll use it (the muse) as long as it's alive. ;)

You're right with the 50.000 words. The first time I did NaNo in 09, I "lost" with 47.000 words. Well, it's still more than I've ever written before in the short time of 30 days, but it was like cross-country, long and tiring and in the end painful and only *whispers* crap *whispers* came out.

For last year, I put a little thought into it, developed some characters and their profiles and although there wasn't really much actual action (no murder and manslughter and explosions and what know I what) the story practically wrote itself - or better the characters did - and I finished with 67.500 words.

This I'll aim at 50.000 words again, but due to studies during the day I can only write in the evenings.

Eldarwen
59484 words so far Winner!

Hehe, I feel your pain!!

But I'm sure it's not as crap as you might think it is. It helps to let it be for a while and then start fiddling on it ages later on. It's usually easier to just go with the flow and write what the characters and plot bunnies tell you to write, at least then you're not disappointed it hasn't gone the way you've planned it.

We'll keep your fingers crossed for you, both for NaNo and the thesis! :-)

Olivia44
50798 words so far Winner!

Thanks for the crossed fingers. 8D

You're right about the "crap". It not so much didn't make sense, but is only bogged down with exhaustive detail as I soon lost drive to continue the story and then I always get lost in detail. :P Maybe next year I'm going to be a rebel and try a rewrite. ;D

I would love to, but have already committed to a curry night. It's clearly a happening time of year...I will be there in spirit, though, and will instigate some novelesque conversation over the poppadums.

Glad to be on board.

Hello Matt,

Thanks for letting me know. Too bad for us. Boo hoo hoo..............

I will try to organize another cooffee break before 1 November. All such info will always be posted on our regional calendar.

Hi everyone,
My name is Dawn and this is my first year participating. I'm disappointed I'll miss the Kick Off since I'm in NYC for the rest of the month. I look forward to attending what I can, though, and to writing and cheering all of you on to do the same!

Yvonne Koechig
60105 words so far Winner!

Welcome to the Luxembourg Region, Dawn!!

I am Yvonne, the ML for our region. It seems that Murphy's law has "hacked" our lounge.....I replied to your post very late Wednesday evening, but I do not see it.... Anyway, too bad you cannot make it this Saturday. For November we'll keep a seat warm for you. How does that sound?

Just keep an eye on our lounge calendar for already planned dates as well as the big yellow sticky note for passing bright ideas.

If you need a quick reply for any NaNo-related issues, just shoot me an email at Luxembourgnano@gmail.com
I check the inbox on a regular basis . I rarely have time to go on nanowrimo.org during normal working hours, although it does happen.

So, Dawn, enjoy the Big Apple and give us a "head's up" when you are back in town.

All the Best!

Hola! Great to see you and good luck for NaNo!

Hey, don't be disappointed. I guess there are worst places to miss the first NaNo-gathering than NYC. ;D There's always (probably) weekly gatherings somewhere in Luxemburg or, if not, a next year. :)

A soon-to-be (Summer 2012) brand-new Luxemburger 8D

Olivia44
50798 words so far Winner!

Hello.

Well, actually I don't even belong in this lounge yet, as I'm studying at Munich at the moment. However, my parents live in Strassen, and when I'm done June next year I'll join them and move there. :D

I'm participating for the third time. In 09 I lost, last year I won and I'm intending to go at least for the "magic" 50.000 again this year. However, it's not going to be easy as I'm writing my master thesis parallely; but those nagging muses wouldn't leave me alone and my head's brimming from their voices. :P

Not this year, but be sure that we'll meet in person for Kick Off and probably weekly meetings next year. 8D Do you have weekly meetings in Luxemburg? For example, in Munich the NaNoers meet each Wednesday from 18.30h on in a Starbucks in City Center.

Yvonne Koechig
60105 words so far Winner!

Good Afternoon Olivia,

Very glad to welcome you to the Luxembourg NaNoWriMo Lounge.
Good Luck getting your masters finished. All respect juggling both NaNoWriMo and your thesis. And just think, this time next year, you'll be down the road in Strassen ready for Luxembourg 2012. Having something to look forward to tends to be uplifting. Until your arrival, feel free to lurk and communicate.

This is my first year as ML and my third official NaNoWriMo year. So far, I have planned on at least one write-in per week. I work fulltime and have 2 teenagers, so this is all that I can officially manage. HOWEVER, if I find that I have an unexpected block of free-time, I shall post an impromptu meeting on our Lounge calendar. I will also be posting a new thread revealing a bright idea I had the other day involving write-ins online. And since no one in Luxembourg has opened a Starbuck's franchise, we will be meeting at Exki Gran'rue downstairs or Exki Gare Upstairs. I have scheduled these weeklies for Saturday afternoons. The meeting place is subject to change.

Time to go!
Stay in contact Olivia and al the very, very best with the 50k-words and your thesis!

Yvonne

Olivia44

Sorry, that didn't return earlier, but I had to work in the speech lab the last days and that was quite exhaustive and I went early to bed. :P

Yup, I must have gone nuts wanting to do both NaNo and thesis! *lol* Yes, things to look forward to can trigger great strengths. At the moment I'm looking forward to Christmas. :P

Whoa, Luxemburg free of Starbucks? That's like ... impossible. :P Glad, that you have thought about the idea of weekly meetings, because it's very funny ... even if you don't get so much writing down it can be quite inspiring. :D

I'll be around. :D

Yvonne Koechig
60105 words so far Winner!

Hi Olivia,

Yes, weekly meeting will be on the agenda. Our members will also have the possiblility to meet via chat through a gmail account; The details are in a separate thread. SKYPE is also a possibility, but from my own expereince the chats travel at low speed; This is just a detail.

And yes, Luxembourg has no Starbucks. If my memory serves me correctly, the nearst Starbucks is in Cologne. Trier doesn't even have one, The franchizes costs are quite onerous. However, we do have a lovely coffee & whole foods establishment called EXKI. (please check the new thread containg great news for us).

I am off now. Do check whenever you get a chance.
Enjoy your weekend!

I'm Mina, French and living in Yutz, near Thionville (20 minutes away from Luxembourg by train). This is my fifth NaNoWriMo - actually, my second one in France. I discovered only this summer there was a Lounge in Luxembourg. In France, most of the events take place in Paris and I live closer to Luxembourg, so... Also there's only one fellow WriMo in my region and I'd love to meet more Wrimos.
It's a shame I missed the kick-off but I'll make sure to turn up at at least one write-in ;)

Good luck to everyone!

I had exactly the same thought regarding the fact that everything happens in Paris in the French region, so I joined this lounge last year!
You'll see, you'll find yourself home around us.

Regarding the write-ins, we can go together if you wish, and also there is still the possibility to share a drink somewhere in Yutz to support each other in the writing ;)

Have fun with us!

Hello!

My name is Lee, and I hope you all don't mind if I adopt Luxembourg as my region. Technically, I live in Germany (near Wittlich), but a) I live much closer to Luxembourg than Cologne, Berlin, and the other German NaNoWriMo hubs, and b) my German is terrible, so I have a difficult time reading and understanding their threads. I speak English and some French, so given my location and my languages, I thought Luxembourg might be a good match. If you have room for an orphan NaNoWriMer, I'm going to call this home.

This is my first NaNoWriMo, after many, many years of standing on the sidelines, cheering on my friends who have participated. I have two young children (ages 5 and 2), so I imagine lots of late night writing sessions after they are soundly asleep.

I'm very excited that in less than 9 hours, I can begin! Looking forward to getting to know you all...

WELCOME!
(Now, you officially have to call this place your home! ^^)

As you probably read from the posts above, you're not the only one who adopted the Luxlounge as a new home!

So feel free to look around, just so to summarize a bit:
- tonight at midnight, there will be a kick in writing party! So if you have a gmail account, feel free to let Yvonne know and she will add you to the gang
- we have write ins every Saturday in Lux city, so if you ever feel like joining and meeting us in the flesh, we'd be very happy to have you with us! :)

And that's it for now, still a few hours to wait... the clock is ticking!

Cheers,

Hey, there, Suzanne!

Thanks for giving Lee the lowdown of things.
I tried on 5 separate ocasions to log on, but I had sooo much going on at work.
So thirilled to have yet another newcomer on board!!
But I did leave a message at L'Essential. Someone there should get back to me this week.

Other than that, not much; Time to get dinner cooked and the hungry masses fed.
See you at 0.01 Nove1st!

Welcome to the Luxembourg NaNoWriMo Lounge!!!!
I just wanted to let you know that your adoption has been officially approuved. Your paperwork is in order. You now belong to Luxembourg!
Wasn't that easy?
All my innate sillyness aside, We are alll glad that you have chosen us. Language is not a problem within the group, as you see, we have two Luxembourgish, French, English and German speakers. You'll fit right in.
As Suzanne mentioned, our Gmail chat will host a brief kick off tonight at one minute after midnight. So, if you have a gmail account send me a shout at Luxembourgnano@gmail.com. It is our dedicated email address.
Will you be able to attend any of the Write-Ins? We sure hope so.
A word of courage to you: I participated in my first NaNoWriMo when my daughter was 5. It is do-able. And SOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun!!

Again WELCOME andd hope to meet you soon.

Hello Lux NaNos!

This is my first year doing NaNo and I should probably not be here because I'm actually revising a 100k MS and not writing a first draft. I'm not really after the certificate, but hoping the challenge of NaNo will tease the muse from her hiding place. I so want to finish my 2nd draft this month! I had a request for a full from an editor in February and I was cruising along just fine with my revisions when a series of health problems hit my family. Fortunately, all is well now but I'm having a very hard time getting the muse to come out and play again.

It was a wonderful surprise to see so many writers here and I look forward to meeting everyone soon. At this point, I'm not sure which Saturday I will be able to join you at the Exki, but I will definitely ring the bell before I march through the door. ;)

Happy writing everyone!

WELCOME TO THE LUXEMBOURG NANOWRIMO GROUP, ANASTASIA!

I am thrilled to discover yet another new member on board our writers-ship. We also have published writers amongst us. You do understand that the 50.000 words are to be 50.000 never- before- written- words. That is the sacred challenge of NaNoWriMo. I just wish to highlight this, not seem snarky, nor stiff as a board. Do you intend to revise a novel already written or write a NEW 50k-word from scratch in a month's time beginning with the FIRST word on November 1st? If I have misunderstood your post, please correct me by all means. It has been a long day and although I feel enthusiasm in your words, I need to make sure in my capacity as ML that you understand the rules which apply to every member. For example, my winning first draft from NaNoWriMo 2010 will have absolutely nothing to do with the novel which I wil begin from scratch on November 1st. I do edit on my second draft, but never within the scope of NaNoWriMo.

I hope that I do not come across as being patronizing. That is not me, nor my intention. I would dearly appreciate your reply to this post. I think that it would be lovely to have your entusiasm and obvious know-how in our little, but blossoming group, but the NaNoWriMo rules must be respected as well as the efforts of all of the world-wide Wrimos writing their 50k-word novel entirely from scratch during the 30 days of November. This is the breathtaking challenge of NaNoWriMo.

I sincerely hope to hear from you soon! Really, I hope that i do not come across as heavy-handed.

All the Best,
Yvonne

Hi Anastasia,

The Unofficial NaNoWriMo FAQ on Wikipedia says "If you are not starting a new project, you're writing non-fiction, or what you are doing isn't a novel (interconnected short stories are allowed), then yes, you are a rebel. But hey, that's okay! We accept you rebels, and you even have your own forum, so it's all good." They have a page devoted to the many kinds of NaNo rebels (http://www.wikiwrimo.org/wiki/NaNo_Rebel), and the forum can be found at http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/304 .

So while you may not be a traditionalist, there's clearly a place for you in the NaNoWriMo community! :)

Yep, Lee, that is the essence of out challenge. Thanks for pinpointing that forum for Anastasia. I had been looking for it but was unsuccessful nailing it down. Nah, Anastasia, you don't need to go the mea culpa route. I really do feel for you. I have 2 novels in revision, but wouldn't bring them to revise in NaNoWriMo; Did you read the rules? Wouldn't you want to take a crack at a NEW from scratch novel ? I guarantee that it will definitely bait your muses. THe seemingly unimportant certificate causes one's muses to leak forth from every pore. What do you think?

Yvonne

AnastasiaStJ

LOL. No, I didn't read the rules, that's why I went the mea culpa route. :) I should have read them-- blush-- but I joined at the last minute on a writing friend's suggestion. She assured me it was possible to join and do revisions. She didn't mention the Rebel community though, but now I know better. Tks again, Lee.

Anyway, tks for the push to go for the NEW novel. Yvonnel, but I really need to finish this MS. I'll plan on writing a new one next year. As Schwarzenegger said: I'll be back. ;)

Hey Anastasia,

I can understand your troubles with muses, lots of things in life can make it hide away without us being able to lure it out again. It's not always easy to get back on track. What I found to help me most is to start something completely new, if only for a while, so I can steer away from the things I have been stuck on for a while after the muse had died on me.
Might just have been me, but it might be a good idea to actually do NaNo the non-rebel way and try something completely new. You never know what it might trigger and you might afterwards feel refreshed and motivated with a fully functioning muse to launch yourself into editing your current draft.

Anyways, just wanted to put in my two-cents ^-^

And not to forget, HELLO to everyone else who is new and I have not yet greeted :-) 59min, get ready!!!

LOL, Eldarwen. It's very tempting, but I really shouldn't. I already have two other MS from last year waiting for revisions. I need to finish this one.

Tks for your two-cents, it's sound advise and I appreciate it. I just don't have the time to spare a new project right now. Best of luck!

Hei! Nimeni on Kosti ja tulen Suomesta...

Oops, wrong language. My name is Kosti and I'm from Finland. I'm also a smith. Sounds like I'm in the wrong place, doesn't it? Well, my wife's currently working as a trainee in the European Parliament, and I came along for the ride, as I just finished my studies in Finland and didn't have a job yet. I know some German and speak three tongues well, so I thought it would be ok. Oh, how wrong I was! I haven't been able to find any work, I guess mostly because I don't know the local languages. I've spent a month sitting inside and... Watching anime, writing and looking for work, so this nano -thing is just what I need. As I'm a novice in writing, I've humbly set my goal to 25 000 words in a month, that's roughly twice as much I've written for the story during the summer. We'll see. Whip me into it, please.

See you!

Hello :)

I'm Maikie, and in a similar situation as Larys. I'm French, from Thionville, and I decided to join this region this year now I'm back in Lorraine (I was in Picardy until June) and that I live closer to Luxemburg, to be able to meet more fellow Wrimos. It is my 5th participation.
Good luck to you all :)

I will add you on gmail then, no problem. I'd be delighted to join the chat group.

I will not be available until the 19th of November unfortunately (studies ruin the fun), but I'll do my best to attend to a write-in within the last 10 days if there is one. But thank you for the informations.

Take care!
Maikie

Hey Kosti, hey Maikie! ^^

Welcome aboard! :)
Our great ML has already told you everything! So we hope to see you on Saturday, both of you!

Maikie: we plan on doing write-ins with Larys every Wednesdays afternoon. Would you care to join us? We're still in the process to find a cosy place so any ideas would be warmly welcomed! :)
Also, on Saturday, if you plan on going to Lux by train (note how I'm trying to MAKE YOU come!!), we could take the same train :) Let me know if you're interested!

And on that note... back to writing!!!

Hello Lylie, nice to meet you!

As I said, I'm not free until the 19th (I have two exams and I'm a bit on ermit mode right now), but after that date, no problem, I'd be delighted to join you.
As for the Saturday write-ins, taking the bus would probably be easier for me. But I have a car, so I could drive us if you don't mind.

Hello! I just realised I forgot to introduce myself.
I'm Rose or Rosemary, I'm English studying foreign languages (French and German) and currently on my year abroad. I'm working as an English Language teaching assistant at a secondary school just outside of Trier in Germany. Over the summer I worked at Disneyland Paris!

It'll be great to meet everyone on Saturday who can make it, and for those who are uncertain - various different people have offered to bring homemade baked goods. Plus... I always have chocolate in my handbag ;)

Sadly I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to the Wednesday write-ins, Luxembourg is a lot closer than any of the other meet-ups I've found but it still takes me about an hour to get there :P

Hi Rose,

The big advantage of our group is that you'll have many opportunities to practice German and French.
I would love to attend the Wednesday night write-ins. Yutz-Nano is the Satellite of Luxembourg NaNo (correct, Suzanne & Mina??). But my family would confiscate my mac.
I assume that you are taking the train in on Saturday?
I really have to return to my novel.
Goodnight!
Y

I like the sound of that! ^^ All we need to do is find the PERFECT place and then, have so much fun that you'll find yourself thinking: "Saturdays are not enough, I need another fix" and then you'll join us! :)

Rose... I realised I didn't introduce myself either but... hey, I'm going to see you all this afternoon anyway, so who cares? XD

Suzanne (gettin' excited!)

Hello Rose! (And everyone else, too, of course!)

You and I aren't too far from each other - I live in a small town 10 minutes from Wittlich. Glad to know there are other NaNoWriMo writers in the area!

Happy writing,
Lee
