What did all of you think? If you haven't seen it yet, check it out here- http://youtu.be/4S9a5V9ODuY

I thought it was friggin incredible. My mental picture of all the characters aren't quite the same, but still. I AM SO EXCITED!

Thoughts?

The trailer looks awesome! I imagined Peeta completely different but let´s see maybe the actor can change my mind (at the moment I think the Gayle Actor is a little bit hotter) I´m really happy that they chose for Katniss a unknown actress.
I can´t wait for the movie to come out !

Jennifer Laurence was recently in X-men first class :) She's an up and comer, for sure!

Personally, I've been a fan of Josh Hutcherson since Bridge to Terebithia.... He's only gotten hotter x)

and jenn was also in Winter's Bone, which almost won several oscars this past year. so she's not exactly unknown.

She was incredible in Winter's Bone. When I saw that they'd picked her for Katniss I literally squealed in delight. She's perfect for Katniss. Exactly who I would have chosen. She's got this great, intense state, this hardened sort of look she wears like body armor, exactly what Katniss needs.

I can't wait!!!

Does any one else agree that Haymitch looks like Thor? any one!? Any one!?! Has anyone even seen Thor? if not you are seriously deprived.

Thank you for reminding me! I am so excited about this movie I can't stand it.

I saw it earlier, I cannot wait! Although similarly, my mental pictures of the characters aren't the same, although Prim and Haymitch are. I think Katniss looks too 'perfect'. Not a scratch or a scar on her!

I absolutely loved it. I think the casting is flawless and the way they did the trailer was fabulous. I can't wait!!

OOOH I'm SO excited! And I was actually pleasantly surprised by what Katniss looks like (although she is quite different from my mental image, too), but I don't like the casting choices for the guys (especially Gale.)

Ah, see, I actually found Gale more believable when I saw him in action. I wasn't expecting to really like either, but I'm cool with Gale now. Maybe it's because the trailer was kind of Gale-centric, but Peeta has a lot of charming to do before I'm sold.

I actually got a little bit choked up watching that! I'm so excited!

HooraySayTheRoses

I legit cried. One single glistening tear.

That's how happy I am.

Katniss I am pretty okay with, but I wished she looked.... "harder"? Not sure if that's the word I'm really looking for, but hopefully you get the idea. Peeta is actually very close to how I pictured him. Gale, not so much. He's too pretty.

Either way, on March 23 I will be in line and in costume. :D

I had the same thoughts with how the characters look. I'm okay with Katniss and Peeta, but I expected Gale to be a little more... I don't know, rough? They are from the poorest district so I feel like they should look the part a little more...

But still, so excited for the movie!

It looks good for a movie, and I'm pretty excited, but as always the book will definitely win over the film. I find that in big budget movies characters always look so flawless. Even if they're ugly. I don't know, it's weird and hard to explain. Anyways, I just imagined the books a lot grittier? As I said before, it's hard to explain.
However, I'm not going to be a Debbie Downer or anything, I will be excited when it's time to go see it. :) Not jumping up and down or anything though. Won't make me emotional, haha.

floraleee

I agree with you about the books feeling grittier! I expected to see just how impoverished these people in District 12 were living. But, luckily, this is only a trailer. I hope that it improves and that I will be able to see how down and dirty the books can get!

FlameRaven

I suspect they are keeping the trailer scenes cleaner to entice more people into the theater-- it might be a harder sell if we saw children hacking each other to pieces in the trailer. >_>

Honestly I'm just glad this wasn't a trailer that spoiled everything. I thought they did a great job setting up the initial conflict of saving Prim while keeping most of the real issues with the Capital hidden.

I had mixed feelings about the book before I read it (I was worried it was going to be Twilight all over again with people telling me it was amazing when I ended up hating it), but I was pleasantly surprised. It was very very good. However, I plan on walking into the movie with the same somewhat low expectations so I can be pleasantly surprised.

I'm curious how they're going to handle the gore though. There wasn't much to go by in the trailer :/

I'm so glad I'd never heard of HG before my friend gave the first book to me as a christmas present =P If I'd known people hype it that much, I'd probably never ended up reading it. The idea kind of reminded me of Battle Royale too, but reading it showed that it was really different ==> worth reading.

Yes. And the trailer made an impression on me =)

Oh jeez I really need to read the books D': I refuse to watch the movie till I've read the books!

FlameRaven
51589 words so far Winner!

Fair warning: If you read the Hunger Games it can stand on its own, but I always recommend having Mockingjay on hand while you are reading Catching Fire. You will probably not be able to stop between the two.

Also... get a happy book to read after Mockingjay. The series gets INTENSE, and you will probably need a breather after.

I have been counting down the days since the first trailer was aired. Now I'm twice excited I love the hunger games and even if they blow it I'm still going to love it. Because it is friggin' amazing no matter what anyone says.

Not how I imagined the setting but I am pleasantly surprised about some things. A few I'm still iffy on.

I enjoy Effie's "accent" muchly.

Omg omg omg. I loved it. It was actually better than I expected but I still think Katniss looks a bit too old.

I saw Rue, too, in one shot. She's my favorite character. ;___;

And Haymitch! And Cinna!

Though I expected Haymitch to look more... unkempt-ish? I don't know.

lupus amans

Haymitch looks like Thor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He should look like Jack Sparrow!!!!! Well with shorter hair.

Serendipitist

Isn't Haymitch played by Woody Harrelson? When I heart that I practically died of happiness.

I'm really excited for the scene where the tributes are introduced on television. It should be pretty fantastic.

I also hope that the actor playing President Snow really packs a punch with his role. He was an important character to me in the books, so I hope that the actor playing him can really tap into the character's personality. I like how Suzanne portrays him as that age-old dangerous psychopath. I love his character in the means of him being well written. He's one of the characters who can easily jump right under my skin!

Oh man. I tried to resist the movie because I was determined not to like it because I love the books so much I was afraid if the movie turned out less than stellar it would ruin them for me.

I gave in and watched the trailer.

I loved it.

Now I wish it wasn't PG-13! (I don't watch anything above PG. it's a long story)

FlameRaven
51589 words so far Winner!

PG-13 makes sense, given all the violence of the books. I will be very interested to see if they can pull off the last book without it being R.

Arya Svit-Kona
50022 words so far Winner!

It looks BRILLIANT! And Cinna, who I wasn't so sure of at first, looks like he might actually work! Peeta I still don't like though.... he's just not the way I pictured him... at all. Most people don't seem to like the way Gale looked, I'm going to say this: Does the fact that they're the poorest district mean that they can't be good looking? And considering the fact that it was Reaping Day, I would expect them to clean up. *shrugs* I like Gale even though I'm definitely the minority in that, bookwise and moviewise.

CadaeicCicada
66778 words so far Winner!

I'm not a fan of who they cast for Gale, but it's not that I think he can't be good looking -- far, far the opposite, I think he SHOULD be. He just doesn't look how I pictured him when reading the books.

Gale was my favorite in the books, and I'd gladly take him off Katniss' hands if it would make her choice easier. ;)

Arya Svit-Kona
50022 words so far Winner!

Ah, I understand that. I personally always imagined him as being blond, but I don't mind Liam Hemsworth being cast.

Finally I find another Gale fan! You have no idea how rare those are...

FlameRaven
51589 words so far Winner!

I *understand* Gale's choices and mentality in the books, but yeah... not really a fan. He is a little too ruthless for me to be comfortable with him.
