I'm excited that the new (better!) translated manga are coming out! I've always loved the anime, and reading the old manga just made me cringe. I could never stand 'Bunny'. It's either Serena or Usagi.
I will say that my favourite characters are Yaten and Hotaru. Mako-chan, Haruka and Minako are cool, too. I also adore Nephrite and Zoicite as villians. :)
It's about time they came out with better translations! The Mixx manga is just...no. Whoever did those needs to go back to translator school...maybe learn a little English grammar first. Must say that I do like the manga better though. Sailor Moon in the anime always seemed a little too...nice. In the manga she's badass. So's Sailor Saturn...anyone who can blow up the world by saying three little words is scary as hell hehe.
I'm anxious about the new anime that will be airing in Japan come 2013. It will be interesting to see what changes have been made but also what has been kept the same. Will it be closer to the manga or the first anime or live action? It would be fun if the "new" anime could be close to the live action since that had so much potential and yet had to end after just one season. The live action brought up some new storylines that could have been expanded upon, but I don't think the interest was there back in 2003. Now that 2012 is the 20th ann of the first anime go figure is when there will be something new.
Still my favorite anime and it was one of the very first I ever saw and that was nearing 20 years ago. I remember watching it on regular standard TV back when DiC had the North American license. Not a fan of the dub like I used to be, switched to the Japanese version at 14 and that is what I got used to and now the only version I can watch. Not to mention I hate how certain things get translated and lost within the different dubs.
Far as favorite characters from the show I'd have to go with Seiya, Haruka, Michiru; manga Sailor Cosmos just cause we didn't get a lot of info on her and I wanted to know more; live action loved Zoi and Ami. Heart bled for Zoi it truly did cause he was one of the only ones that seemed to not have switched sides totally and was only looking out for his prince.
Naoko Takeuchi, creator of Sailor Moon is most likely to helm the anime, since she did management for her husband's two recent titles, Hunter X Hunter and Level E, both of which have closely followed the MANGA counterparts. I guess that was a test run. Better to do it on someone else's projects, I guess. (though she did help with Hunter x Hunter as an assistant--you can see her screentone work on page one of the HunterxHunter manga--I recognize it.)
Live Action Sailor Moon is pretty much everything she wanted to do with Sailor Moon when she was originally making Sailor Moon. You can see her personal touches throughout the series. Decisions I know she would make because she's stated so. Even Act Zero seems somewhat of a retelling of how she and her husband married. Haha.
If they get to season 4, I suspect it'll be a lot closer to the manga and include the princess dresses. Also Season 5 should be a whole lot darker.
So I suspect it'll be closer to the manga than the original anime and she'll bring back the majority of the voice actors too.
She is also redoing the manga again, which is a lot like her. (i.e. sprucing it up and putting in new art work)
The translations for the new manga are still a little sloppy in places, though it is better. It's probably because of the low budget. Also they used the new manga source material (Shinsoubon) so not all the pages will match because some pages were redone. (Particularly where they go to the moon--almost all redone).
I suspect she's doing it again, since her daughter is getting old enough to share in the series. =P Start them young.
I AM SO EXCITED FOR SAILOR MOON 2013. It's going to debut right around my fifteenth year of being a Sailor Moon fan, and it just means so much to me to have one of my all-time favorite series still be around and still be popular.
Favorite characters are Hotaru and Ami- I'm a bookworm and very shy, and I was bullied heavily in middle school. Hotaru was the first character I could relate to on some level and so she's always stuck with me. (I've said with all the new merchandise BUY ALL THE SATURN MERCH ALL OF IT.) And because of Sailor Moon, it's helped me get through some very rough periods in my life (like the aforementioned bullying and my bouts of depression) and it's always been there for me in some form or another. I have an SM charm necklace that I wear everyday to remind me of that.
I'm 28 years old, almost 29. I've been a Sailor Moon fan since I was 12 years old. Ever since I stumbled upon the dubbed version on TV during a teacher workday, I've been hooked. I would set my VCR to record the show every single weekday and I would watch it when I came home from school. And the rest is history. Obviously, I graduated up to the original anime, I wrote fan fiction; I read SOME of the Mixx translation but could never get my hands on all of it. I'm so happy the manga is being re-released, because now I can collect all the volumes and finally enjoy the series in the way Takeuchi-sensei envisioned it.
AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THE NEW SAILOR MOON ANIME. I ~LITERALLY~ screamed out loud when my best friend told me. This series was the first example of anything to show me how girls could be strong and fight the bad guys, and still be normal girls. My favorite senshi has always been Makoto/Jupiter because I think she is the embodiment of this. Out of all of the girls, she's the one who views herself as a tomboy, even though she loves cooking, cleaning, and gardening, and she likes cute things and crushes on cute boys. I see a lot of myself in her character. I don't really see myself as a girly girl, but I find enjoyment in the more domestic activities, and it took me quite a while to understand there's nothing wrong with that.
Aw man, I am very excited for the 2013 series! Sailor Moon kickstarted both my anime and manga fandom. Obviously the TV anime airing on...UPN I think is where it aired for us. Despite the severe edits and changes, I think the original DiC dub will always have a nostalgic place in my heart. It's also how I got into the manga - when I was watching it, I noticed in the credits the mention of a Sailor Moon "comic". I went to the local comic shop and asked about it. Just my luck - Mixx had just released the first issue, which included Sailor Moon (as well as Magic Knight Rayearth, which I also fell in love with!) I have the manga series in Japanese and am happy for the Kodansha re-releases. Now I can have a complete English set and finally introduce the series to my niece and my cousins.
I'm so looking forward to the new anime - and hoping that it will prompt remastered DVDs for North America for the first two original seasons (and maybe an official release of Stars? *hope hope*). I'm also hoping it'll jump start the SeraMyu musicals again - I adored those.
Sailor Moon was my "gateway" anime. The very first thing I saw was the final episode of Nephrite/Nephlyte's arc on Cartoon Network, and it had me in tears. I had to keep watching and go back and find out what had happened to lead up to the (literal) backstabbing among the villains. I was completely hooked from that one episode.
This may not have been the first anime I ever saw (I think that award goes to Speed Racer, maybe), but it was -nearly- the first, and it was definitely my first all-time favorite. In fact, it may have been my earliest obsession, period. I was about five or six years old, and I've been a fan ever since. ^-^ I remember I always admired Sailor Mercury so much and wanted to be just like her, though frankly I was probably more similar to Mars in real life. :p
