The stand-alone book by Cornelia Funke. This is a favorite of mine. So far I've seen no sign that anyone else has read it, but if anyone has, come and discuss it!
Sorry for the Caps, but I love it that much. It's the first time I've ever got a book out from a library, then really, really, really not wanted to take it back. I had to buy it, which says a lot. I don't buy book very often, and ones I've already read (twice...)?
I just... loved it. I loved the characters, and all the little fairy-tale links, and mainly, I think, the world.
Does anyone know about the sequel? I read it was called Restless, but couldn't fin out anything other than that - though I don't know how reliable that was.
SEQUEEEEEEEEL! There's a sequel?! :D I have to get it when it comes out. But yes, it's so awesome! I'm probably gonna get it soon! The world is original, and the characters... Dontcha just love Jacob?
Yep, there's a sequel but it isn't coming out for a while.
This is hands down my favourite Cornelia Funke book. I love her writing but this one was just... amazing. Somehow she managed to create a fantasy world that struck me as fresh and original and the characters were great and the story was great and the whole thing, I swear if it this book were a person I'd be hugging them right now.
I really don't understand why so many other people seemed to think it was a bit of a dud.
Me neither, Spaghetti. My sister couldn't finish reading it, but me and my dad both loved it.
I think my only little tiny niggle was when I worked out how old Fox was. Maybe I'm wrong, but from two pieces of information we were given, I made her out to be 14. 10 years younger than Jacob... I dn't know, it just seemed a little bit too young.
Although, I love Fox as a character. I loved all the little hints at her backstory - it was enough to make you think about it, but didn't feel cliff-hangery at all. Does anyone know which fairytale she 'originates' (I guess that's the word) from? Reckless has made me wish my knowledge of fairy tales was a lot better...
Hmm... didn't know that about Fox. How did you work it out? I'll have to pay attention to that the next time I read it. It's definitely very young, but then their relationship is an interesting one so I'd say that the age difference is just one more thing to add to the list of issues and differences to be worked through.
Sorry if everybody already knows this, but I thought I'd write it all anyway so I can look at it again in one place to make me happy... Seems like giving a character I dislike facebook turned out well: I was on the Reckless page, and it says a) The next book will be out September 2012 in Germany, and probably Spring 2013 in English. b) Cornelia Funke has written the second book, and is working on the third. c) She wants to write at least five. d) There were 7 sneak peeks of the next book (!!!) e) She responded to my comment! Like, properly! Sorry, I'm squeeing a little bit, but... Eep!
There was also talk of short stories from the Mirror World, and a collection of the fairy tales which she used in the book. But I asked, and she said as of yet that would only be out in German... So now I'm wondering whether four and a half years of on-school German lessons will be enough to translate it. I think not, but may be worth a try...
Oh, and Spaghetti, I don't know how I worked that out about Fox. I think Reckless must be due for a reread soon, so if I see I'll let you know. I think it was something that Jacob said about finding a ten year old girl when he came back down from the tower after having ben gone too long... But I don't see why that would make her fourteen. Hmm. What was I thinking?
So I'd say that that's an overall YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got my brother to read it and he loved it! He finished it, and when I told him that there would be more books he was so excited! I'm so proud of myself because he's a reluctanct reader

Re: Reckless
Oooh, Reckless!! I read that. Interisting stuff, like all of Cornelia Funke's work. *is an official Cornelia Funke Fan*
Oh, and trivia: Jacob and his brother were named after the Brothers Grimm (Jacob and Wilhelm). It's true.

Re: Reckless
Five. There are going to be at least five.
I think I might explode with happiness right now.
