Oh goodness. My MMC2 is a fire-user, and MMC1 is a pyrophobe...I might as well go all-out and make MMC2 a full-fledged pyromaniac.
"Have a ruler/organization/whatever murder someone as a distraction 1 bonus point if it is a regicide 2 bonus points if it leads to a war 3 bonus points if that was the planned distraction 4 bonus points if the other nations/groups/whatevers see through the ruse but play along 5 bonus points if the plan backfires in the end"
Now I have a reason for my civil war to start!!!
Have a hero(ine) who does everything by the book/code/whatever 1 bonus point if he/she gets into trouble because of this 2 bonus points if loved ones of the hero(ine) die because of this 3 bonus points if the hero(ine) is the member of a secret society 4 bonus points if the organization exists to do something silly rather than saving the world 5 bonus points if the hero(ine) dies because he/she follows the code/book/whatever
This one is too easy I have a character that is perfect for this.
Have a "holy" city in your world that all religions view as holy 1 bonus point if none of the religions had anything to do with the city in the beginning 2 bonus points if the religion that viewed the city as holy at first is long gone 3 bonus points if a war breaks out over the control of the city

Religion challenge accepted and passed, its the entire premise of my story. However, I've been playing around with adding a wisecracking pirate that will totally add suffixes sarcastically now. This thread is awesome.

Actually, my plot mostly revolves around the characters KNOWING that their ancestor's spirit is inside them.
One of my characters (sadly not for NaNo) is a seven-year-old pyromaniac girl. It freaks the life out of her quest team, not least because she keeps eating their camp fires.
Sorry. Couldn't help saying that. Some of those dares completely cracked me up.

At the point where I'm at now it was a planned distraction and let's see, it might backfire in the end.
Well, I might as well post the dare I came up with last year.
Have your hero flip a coin to decide everything 1 bonus point: if this always results in him making the right choice. 2 bonus points: if the coin is double-sided 3 bonus points: if the hero knows this 4 bonus points: if this convinces the villain that there's a spell/blessing on the hero that causes the coin to land on the correct side. 5 bonus points: if the villain becomes extremely obsessed with removing the spell/blessing he's convinced the hero has. 6 bonus points: if this is the precise reason why the hero bothers flipping the coin. 7 bonus points: if the villain loses to the hero because he was too busy trying to remove the spell/blessing, to do much to stop the hero. Piles of cookies: if the hero flips the coin when asked by the villain to join him.
I am so stealing this one. It sounds like something my MMC would do, not only to annoy the emperor who is the villain, but to annoy his friends too. Particularly the sorcerer, who is convinced the coin isn't magical but he can't prove it unless he can get his hands on it. Which MMC will not allow because... well he's an obnoxious little git sometimes. =)
I didn't initially take this dare but I ended up doing so as I wrote. I don't think I managed to get pudding in *every* chapter. But no one ever did eat it :D
Have the king assassinated. 1 bonus point if he is killed to establish a new king 2 bonus points if he was a good ruler 3 bonus points if the new king is a terrible ruler and makes all the wrong decisions 4 bonus points if the killer/new king is a member of the old king's family 5 bonus points if it was the second born in the family line 6 bonus points if he would have had just as much power as the king's brother, but killed his brother anyway just for the title 7 bonus points if he tries to kill the old king's child but fails 8 bonus points if the child grows up knowing nothing of his past, but some random old man gives him a five-minute history lesson on why he must lead a rebellion against his tyrant uncle 9 bonus points if the child leads the rebellion perfectly, despite having no military experience, and becomes an amazing ruler, despite lack of education 10 bonus points if the tyrant uncle has a mustache
I'm probably going to use this, because I was thinking about killing off the king in my story. But too bad I don't have a tyrant uncle in my plot; I only have the king's son who wants to destoy the kingdom, so he decideds to kill his father so he could become king, but not after he forces FMC, with whom he is in love with, to marry him, just to secure his position as the next king. Oh, well.... ;)
Two bonus points for me! I lost the rest because Antoine is the good guy and Enrico really, really deserves what he gets coming to him. Also Antoine is the eldest and he has no intention whatsoever of killing his baby brother. Kid's cute!
Have the king assassinated. 1 bonus point if he is killed to establish a new king <- This 2 bonus points if he was a good ruler <- This 3 bonus points if the new king is a terrible ruler and makes all the wrong decisions <- This 4 bonus points if the killer/new king is a member of the old king's family <- The killer is, but the new king isn't the killer. 5 bonus points if it was the second born in the family line <- The killer is but is not the king's brother, is the king's second daughter. 6 bonus points if he would have had just as much power as the king's brother, but killed his brother anyway just for the title <- Not in this book, but in some other point of the story. 7 bonus points if he tries to kill the old king's child but fails <- The new king does. 8 bonus points if the child grows up knowing nothing of his past, but some random old man gives him a five-minute history lesson on why he must lead a rebellion against his tyrant uncle <- Almost. Is not her tyrant uncle, the aren't related. 9 bonus points if the child leads the rebellion perfectly, despite having no military experience, and becomes an amazing ruler, despite lack of education <- With a few obstacles, but yes. 10 bonus points if the tyrant uncle has a mustache <- Without a body, I can't do it.
I dare you to have your character stand in a grocery store aisle debating whether to use kosher or sea salt in a magical ritual.
I dare you to have a ranting blind seer show up, declare your MC's are the chosen ones, and send them on a quest. Bonus points if the seer is a ranting lunatic. Double bonus points if the characters realize this, but still try to accomplish the quest. Triple bonus points if the seer declares a goat, fence post, small rock, half a brick, and/or a pair of lime green socks are chosen ones. Cookies if the goat saves the world.
Bahaha, I want a goat to save my world. Wait, the world is not coming to an end. Shoot. I would have a goat who'd totally be up to it, though. *sadface*
I dare you to... have circus come to the town your hero is currently in Bonus points if said circus is an important meeting place for your characters. Triple points if your hero and the antagonist have a fight during the show and everybody thinks that's totally what should be happening. Cookies if someone runs away from home with the circus when it leaves town.
ooh. Can't use the salt dare in this NaNo, but I'll totally save it for my modern fairy tales 'verse. ^.^
I probably WILL include a blind lunatic, though. It would be spectacular if he came along and gave my MCs the direction they needed to go next, and then claimed one of the many goats would save the world. XD
I could most likely add the salt one into my story pretty easily. :p I just have to come up with a ritual of some sort. xD Bet if I keep reading this thread I'll find one. :p
Won't be using it in this story, but totally making a note of the salt one as it would be perfect to use in the urban fantasy I want to write at some point.
*snickers* I can take so many of these. The 'Villan as hero' one, the hero who isn't heroic, the holy city, and now this one. My main character actualy IS a mad blind seer who's probably going to destroy the universe just by existing. lol

Man I love this thread already
I dare you to have a character who always wears ridiculous/guady clothing BP if another character notices DBP if the character that noticed tries to get the other character to wear normal clothing TBP if this leads to an argument QBP if at a critical juncture in your book the character uses a piece of his ridiculous attire to save the day.
It was all I could think of. And I might use it in my novel!
Huh. I do have one character that I haven't really fleshed out. She could totally rock the weird clothes. I can see where I could use it near the end of the novel, too....
Sven was already planned to wear ridiculously gaudy clothes and several of the other characters comment on it, but now I'm gong to have to try and get all the bonus points. Hahaha!
I dare you to have your traveling party bring along a magic user for the purposes of cooking their food -- a bit like a magical microwave.
Bonus points if the magic user is only good at cooking -- can't fight, can't divine, can't heal, just makes darn good food. Extra bonus points if the mage sidetracks them from the quest in order to hunt down rare ingredients for gourmet meals. Triple bonus points if enemies/rivals try to kidnap the mage in order to enjoy this cooking. (If the rest of the company treats the mage like a kitchen appliance, s/he might join the other group.) Quadruple bonus points if the mage threatens to feed everyone nothing but stew if they don't do what s/he wishes.
A five star seven course dinner if the entire quest is to find cooking ingredients and serve a glorious banquet.
I dare you to use the line, "Wow, I bet no one's ever said THAT before."
Bonus points if someone else claims they HAVE said it before. Double bonus points if it's already been said before in this book. Triple if it's something people say all the time. Quadruple if it's said all the time in OUR world, but never before in theirs.
I dare you to have a zucchini dress up contest occur in your novel
1 bonus point if it is an event your MC is participating in 2 bonus points if it is an event your Villain cooked up to trap your MC 3 bonus points if it is a trap and your MC know about it being a trap 4 bonus points if the Villain actually traps the MC 5 bonus points if the MC traps your Villain instead
I dare you to have a food fight in your novel. BP if everyone in the area joins in. DBP if it takes place in a completely inappropriate place (wedding feast, five star diner, royal banquet hall) TBP if you get more than 1667 words out of the food fight. QBP if the foot fight is important to the plot.
I might take this one, just because it fits one of my groups of characters so well. Also, I might even try for the QBP, since this particular group gets called out on everything near the end. One thing: does a dare count if you were going to do it anyway? I actually already have 2 characters with unnecessarily long titles and I have 2 borderline pyromaniac characters, none of which actually posses fire magic.

Well theres a distraction for you... "We have to get our out the back before someone realizes she showed up to this stupid thing."
"You're right... I'll accidently dump some punch on Ka'lon over there and get him to throw some of the cake at me. I will duck causing it to hit one of those kids in the corner. That should be all we need to start a food fight and you can sneak out while its happening."
LOL Priceless. Don't know that I will find a place for it. But, its priceless.
That... is very very tempting. Especially when some of my MCs are a stressed-out 17 year old new Queen, a very mischievous transformed dragon, and a new knight with a red-head's temper. It's not that hard at all to imagine a food fight breaking out in the royal banquet hall! XD
I dare you to have a character who speaks entirely in innuendo. DBP if the character doesn't realize what they're doing. TBP if this character tries to flirt with your MC or one of their party.
I dare you to use a setting that is not generic medieval european.
I dare you to have a male character who disguises himself as a female. DBP if this is not used as a one-off joke.
I was already doing the non-generic medieval european. It's a steampunk novel, more Victorian than medieval, though... still sort of Europe.
Also, one of my two male main characters disguises himself as a girl in order to get into the sovereign's palace and make contact with the other male main character. No one questions a pretty young girl going into the earl's chambers. They would wonder about the young man, however.
Now I want to have a female character dress up as a boy to get into the earl's chambers because that would be more expected. Even though I have no earls in my story. And my MCs are already male. Curse my contrary brain... *tucks idea away for future stories*
I'd be cheating if I took the Non-generic fantasy dare, I was already planning that =3
But I'm considering having a grab at that "character who speaks entirely in innuendo" as innuendo is very strange and foreign in my fantasy as most people favor the laconic and the blunt.
I dare you to have a wizardly side character who has a legendary reputation but is actually horrible at magic!
1 bonus point if he accidentally transforms the hero into a ferret. 2 bonus points if he accidentally transforms the hero into a villain. 3 bonus points if he accidentally transforms the hero into a villainous ferret. Major cookies if he has a long white beard that the ferret hides in.
I dare you to have a villain who's a sinister aardvark.
1 bonus point if everyone sees him and makes a wrong guess about what animal he is, making him respond with "no, I'm an Aardvark! A Sinister one!" Alternatively, if he is identified as an aardvark, he always adds "Sinister aardvark."
2 bonus points if he was turned into an aardvark after he tried to turn the hero into an aardvark.
3 bonus points if his sinister actions are consistent with aardvark behavior.
4 bonus points if he's really a powerful demon who has to take an animal form...and for reasons unknown, choose an aardvark. Double if his other choice was a duck-billed platypus. Triple if there's a rational justification for why an aardvark was the best form. Quadruple if there's also a rational explanation for the platypus.
Will be taking some of these (unintentional innuendo, kosher salt in a spell, gaudy clothing)
I dare you to include a plan where one of the MCs must act as bait. BP If they refuse to cooperate TPB if you use the line "What do you mean why do I have a problem with being bait in a plan you admitted probably won't work?" QBP if they end up using a dummy instead of the character A batch of fresh chocolate cookies if the dummy is very obviously fake but it works anyway

Don't know when I'm going to use it (Might be in a few years) but it is definitely going into my ever-growing collection of dares.
I dare you to have a character that never speaks BP If this is never explained DBP if all the other characters try to get him/her to speak TBP if at a critical juncture the character speaks and saves the day with like one word (ie it might confuse the villain for those precious few seconds that this character who has never talked all of a sudden is talking)

Have a hero(ine) who does everything by the book/code/whatever
1 bonus point if he/she gets into trouble because of this
2 bonus points if loved ones of the hero(ine) die because of this
3 bonus points if the hero(ine) is the member of a secret society
4 bonus points if the organization exists to do something silly rather than saving the world
5 bonus points if the hero(ine) dies because he/she follows the code/book/whatever
Tell the story from the villain's point of view
1 bonus point if you don't reveal this until the end
2 bonus points if the evil deeds the villain does are no worse than those of the hero
3 bonus points if many characters are confused and joins the villain's side
4 bonus points if the reader is equally confused
5 bonus points if you do not reveal it at all
6 bonus points if the villain dies at the end when people still believe that he is the hero
Have a hero who is forced to do the opposite of heroic most of the time
1 bonus point if he has to lock a princess in a tower
2 bonus points if he has to get rid of a magical weapon of some kind
3 bonus points if he has got to allow the evil overlord to conquer the world/country/whatever
4 bonus points if he has to be killed by a dragon
Have your characters carry around their ancestors' spirits at all times without being aware of them
1 bonus point if the ancestors notice things their descendants fail to see and try to warn them without succeeding
2 bonus points if the ancestors of two characters can see and spak with one another at will
3 bonus points if the ancestors of the hero and the villain get along very well and try to make their respective descendants to live in peace with one another
4 bonus points if the ancestors of two characters who are in love are enemies and try to sabotage the relationship
5 bonus points if there is a character who can see the ancestors of others and tries to resolve the conflicts
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Have a character who is a pyromaniac
1 bonus point if the character denies it
2 bonus points if the character's mania is important for the story
3 bonus points if a friend of this character has pyrophobia
4 bonus points if the mania and the phobia are the only things that gives victory against the bad guy(s)
5 bonus points if they end up married
Oh goodness. My MMC2 is a fire-user, and MMC1 is a pyrophobe...I might as well go all-out and make MMC2 a full-fledged pyromaniac.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
sounds exactly like 1 of my characters her power is fire after all.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
"Have a ruler/organization/whatever murder someone as a distraction
1 bonus point if it is a regicide
2 bonus points if it leads to a war"
You just dared my plot into existance :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
"Have a "holy" city in your world that all religions view as holy"
Well, it's actually an island in my world. XD
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Challange accepted, the princess one might work with my princess and the pulper that one is going to so much fun.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
"Have a ruler/organization/whatever murder someone as a distraction
1 bonus point if it is a regicide
2 bonus points if it leads to a war
3 bonus points if that was the planned distraction
4 bonus points if the other nations/groups/whatevers see through the ruse but play along
5 bonus points if the plan backfires in the end"
Now I have a reason for my civil war to start!!!
This one is too easy I have a character that is perfect for this.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Religion challenge accepted and passed, its the entire premise of my story. However, I've been playing around with adding a wisecracking pirate that will totally add suffixes sarcastically now. This thread is awesome.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Actually, my plot mostly revolves around the characters KNOWING that their ancestor's spirit is inside them.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
One of my characters (sadly not for NaNo) is a seven-year-old pyromaniac girl. It freaks the life out of her quest team, not least because she keeps eating their camp fires.
Sorry. Couldn't help saying that. Some of those dares completely cracked me up.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
At the point where I'm at now it was a planned distraction and let's see, it might backfire in the end.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Well, I might as well post the dare I came up with last year.
Have your hero flip a coin to decide everything
1 bonus point: if this always results in him making the right choice.
2 bonus points: if the coin is double-sided
3 bonus points: if the hero knows this
4 bonus points: if this convinces the villain that there's a spell/blessing on the hero that causes the coin to land on the correct side.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
That makes for a nice quirkiness.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
That's hilarious! I was just thinking about adding a villain, and now I am so tempted, just to write that. I might just have to do this one.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I am so stealing this one. It sounds like something my MMC would do, not only to annoy the emperor who is the villain, but to annoy his friends too. Particularly the sorcerer, who is convinced the coin isn't magical but he can't prove it unless he can get his hands on it. Which MMC will not allow because... well he's an obnoxious little git sometimes. =)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
that is awesome!! and hilarious....
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I love cookies so I am definitely doing this! :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
This completely just inspired me! Now to rehash it for Camp....
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Have pudding appear in every chapter.
Double points if its chocolate.
Tripple points if no one ever eats it.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Ha! That actually sounds awesome lol. Challenge accepted :P
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Double accepted, only with my world's version of pudding :D
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Going for it :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I didn't initially take this dare but I ended up doing so as I wrote. I don't think I managed to get pudding in *every* chapter. But no one ever did eat it :D
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Have the king assassinated.
1 bonus point if he is killed to establish a new king
2 bonus points if he was a good ruler
3 bonus points if the new king is a terrible ruler and makes all the wrong decisions
4 bonus points if the killer/new king is a member of the old king's family
5 bonus points if it was the second born in the family line
6 bonus points if he would have had just as much power as the king's brother, but killed his brother anyway just for the title
7 bonus points if he tries to kill the old king's child but fails
8 bonus points if the child grows up knowing nothing of his past, but some random old man gives him a five-minute history lesson on why he must lead a rebellion against his tyrant uncle
9 bonus points if the child leads the rebellion perfectly, despite having no military experience, and becomes an amazing ruler, despite lack of education
10 bonus points if the tyrant uncle has a mustache
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Clarification on this, since I can't find an edit or delete button.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I'm probably going to use this, because I was thinking about killing off the king in my story. But too bad I don't have a tyrant uncle in my plot; I only have the king's son who wants to destoy the kingdom, so he decideds to kill his father so he could become king, but not after he forces FMC, with whom he is in love with, to marry him, just to secure his position as the next king. Oh, well.... ;)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
both of my kings are going to get the axe in my nano novel, dare accepted!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Two bonus points for me! I lost the rest because Antoine is the good guy and Enrico really, really deserves what he gets coming to him. Also Antoine is the eldest and he has no intention whatsoever of killing his baby brother. Kid's cute!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Four bonus points without even trying. Lose out on five because it's his wife. And he's an Emperor.
Shh. It's a mystery. Everyone thinks his consort did it because said consort is getting a little too old for his job.
Also, the Empress is not so much a terrible ruler because she makes bad decisions, but because she's a sadistic evil controlling bitch.
Also, said consort's father (the Emperor's Justice) definitely is playing both sides of this...
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
This is hilariously what happens in my non-NaNo WIP I've been working on for years, with some minor tweaks. :) Totally made my day!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Have the king assassinated.
1 bonus point if he is killed to establish a new king <- This
2 bonus points if he was a good ruler <- This
3 bonus points if the new king is a terrible ruler and makes all the wrong decisions <- This
4 bonus points if the killer/new king is a member of the old king's family <- The killer is, but the new king isn't the killer.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to have your character stand in a grocery store aisle debating whether to use kosher or sea salt in a magical ritual.
I dare you to have a ranting blind seer show up, declare your MC's are the chosen ones, and send them on a quest.
Bonus points if the seer is a ranting lunatic.
Double bonus points if the characters realize this, but still try to accomplish the quest.
Triple bonus points if the seer declares a goat, fence post, small rock, half a brick, and/or a pair of lime green socks are chosen ones.
Cookies if the goat saves the world.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Bahaha, I want a goat to save my world. Wait, the world is not coming to an end. Shoot. I would have a goat who'd totally be up to it, though. *sadface*
I dare you to... have circus come to the town your hero is currently in
Bonus points if said circus is an important meeting place for your characters.
Triple points if your hero and the antagonist have a fight during the show and everybody thinks that's totally what should be happening.
Cookies if someone runs away from home with the circus when it leaves town.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Well, I suppose you could have the goat save something else. ;)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Oh man I could totally make this happen. Can I get a half a point if someone is kidnapped when the circus leaves? ;)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
XD
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I do like the idea of a blind seer initiating a quest :>
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
blind seer is totally what i needed. thank you so much.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Um...I might actually use the salt one...LOL!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
The salt one? I've done that. In real life!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
AWESOME!!! did the ritual go well? (you were debating the salts for the *ritual*, right??) :P
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
The salt one, for sure! Accepted. :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I could most likely add the salt one into my story pretty easily. :p I just have to come up with a ritual of some sort. xD Bet if I keep reading this thread I'll find one. :p
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Won't be using it in this story, but totally making a note of the salt one as it would be perfect to use in the urban fantasy I want to write at some point.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
omg, this is so amazing. YES.
I think I can even work the goat in!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Hee! My MC is actively trying to avoid being name a Chosen One, so this will be awesome!
Also, goat. I'll see what I can do. :D
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
*snickers* I can take so many of these. The 'Villan as hero' one, the hero who isn't heroic, the holy city, and now this one. My main character actualy IS a mad blind seer who's probably going to destroy the universe just by existing. lol
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I might just have to use the salt one.
Bah, I hate this new forum!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I like this one! XD
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I could totally use this one!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Man I love this thread already
I dare you to have a character who always wears ridiculous/guady clothing
BP if another character notices
DBP if the character that noticed tries to get the other character to wear normal clothing
TBP if this leads to an argument
QBP if at a critical juncture in your book the character uses a piece of his ridiculous attire to save the day.
It was all I could think of. And I might use it in my novel!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
x5 if the character's gaudy clothing is referred to as "gay attire" :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
x5 if another character is forced to borrow gaudy clothes, and wear them to the final battle.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Huh. I do have one character that I haven't really fleshed out. She could totally rock the weird clothes. I can see where I could use it near the end of the novel, too....
Challenge accepted!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Taking this, up to TBP. It would be perfect for my slightly crazy character.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I love this so much that I will force it into my story whether it likes it or not!!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Sven was already planned to wear ridiculously gaudy clothes and several of the other characters comment on it, but now I'm gong to have to try and get all the bonus points. Hahaha!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
"Have a technologically inferior race/people defeat those who are superior to them"
How many points if the group in questions have to be fought by the heroes?
Also, I shouldn't read this thread...19 points just from what I already have planned.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to have your traveling party bring along a magic user for the purposes of cooking their food -- a bit like a magical microwave.
Bonus points if the magic user is only good at cooking -- can't fight, can't divine, can't heal, just makes darn good food.
Extra bonus points if the mage sidetracks them from the quest in order to hunt down rare ingredients for gourmet meals.
Triple bonus points if enemies/rivals try to kidnap the mage in order to enjoy this cooking. (If the rest of the company treats the mage like a kitchen appliance, s/he might join the other group.)
Quadruple bonus points if the mage threatens to feed everyone nothing but stew if they don't do what s/he wishes.
A five star seven course dinner if the entire quest is to find cooking ingredients and serve a glorious banquet.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I'll take the first bit ( I think) and possibly the first two bonus points. :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I may make a short story based on this.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Brilliant!!!! It's ideas like this that inspire me to write! =]
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to use the line, "Wow, I bet no one's ever said THAT before."
Bonus points if someone else claims they HAVE said it before.
Double bonus points if it's already been said before in this book.
Triple if it's something people say all the time.
Quadruple if it's said all the time in OUR world, but never before in theirs.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I might just take that dare. I'm doing a humorous style anyway, so this will fit perfectly.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
x5 if the the character who said the line is the same character who previously said whatever "that" was. ;]
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to have a zucchini dress up contest occur in your novel
1 bonus point if it is an event your MC is participating in
2 bonus points if it is an event your Villain cooked up to trap your MC
3 bonus points if it is a trap and your MC know about it being a trap
4 bonus points if the Villain actually traps the MC
5 bonus points if the MC traps your Villain instead
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
My dare for 2011 is to have a character who is a Fletcherite - a follower of the chew chew diet.
Bonus points if it is your main character.
Gold star if the time this character spend masticating actually has an impact on the plot.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
(Inspired by my 2007 WriMo)
I dare you to have a food fight in your novel.
BP if everyone in the area joins in.
DBP if it takes place in a completely inappropriate place (wedding feast, five star diner, royal banquet hall)
TBP if you get more than 1667 words out of the food fight.
QBP if the foot fight is important to the plot.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I might take this one, just because it fits one of my groups of characters so well. Also, I might even try for the QBP, since this particular group gets called out on everything near the end.
One thing: does a dare count if you were going to do it anyway? I actually already have 2 characters with unnecessarily long titles and I have 2 borderline pyromaniac characters, none of which actually posses fire magic.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Well theres a distraction for you... "We have to get our out the back before someone realizes she showed up to this stupid thing."
"You're right... I'll accidently dump some punch on Ka'lon over there and get him to throw some of the cake at me. I will duck causing it to hit one of those kids in the corner. That should be all we need to start a food fight and you can sneak out while its happening."
LOL Priceless. Don't know that I will find a place for it. But, its priceless.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I think I could go Quadruple on this. Oh yea!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
That... is very very tempting. Especially when some of my MCs are a stressed-out 17 year old new Queen, a very mischievous transformed dragon, and a new knight with a red-head's temper. It's not that hard at all to imagine a food fight breaking out in the royal banquet hall! XD
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I think I can actually do this one, up to DBP or TBP. (I'm pretty sure a detective agency is an inappropriate place to start lobbing food around. XD)
Even better, I can use it as a character moment! Yay!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to have a character who speaks entirely in innuendo.
DBP if the character doesn't realize what they're doing.
TBP if this character tries to flirt with your MC or one of their party.
I dare you to use a setting that is not generic medieval european.
I dare you to have a male character who disguises himself as a female.
DBP if this is not used as a one-off joke.
And that's all I have right now.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Male dressed as a female? I'm so using that. Now I just have to figure out why....
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I was already doing the non-generic medieval european. It's a steampunk novel, more Victorian than medieval, though... still sort of Europe.
Also, one of my two male main characters disguises himself as a girl in order to get into the sovereign's palace and make contact with the other male main character. No one questions a pretty young girl going into the earl's chambers. They would wonder about the young man, however.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Now I want to have a female character dress up as a boy to get into the earl's chambers because that would be more expected. Even though I have no earls in my story. And my MCs are already male. Curse my contrary brain... *tucks idea away for future stories*
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I do have an incubus character who might do the innuendo speaking without realizing it :)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Quote: I dare you to use a setting that is not generic medieval european.
I'm already doing a world much like ours only with elves, dragons, etc. Does that count?
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Totally doing the innuendo one: medieval style.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I'd be cheating if I took the Non-generic fantasy dare, I was already planning that =3
But I'm considering having a grab at that "character who speaks entirely in innuendo" as innuendo is very strange and foreign in my fantasy as most people favor the laconic and the blunt.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
all three of them accepted!!!! =D
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I COULD do the intire inuenendo thingy, was trying to figure out more stuff about Kitsune! XD This is perfect for him! Taking it all the way! XD
No medival eurpian setting for me! Ha ha! Underworld, ghosts, telaportation because of a specific asgrialconjunkstion.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to have a wizardly side character who has a legendary reputation but is actually horrible at magic!
1 bonus point if he accidentally transforms the hero into a ferret.
2 bonus points if he accidentally transforms the hero into a villain.
3 bonus points if he accidentally transforms the hero into a villainous ferret.
Major cookies if he has a long white beard that the ferret hides in.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Thank You... You just gave my youngest three kids the start of the plot for their joint Nano venture.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I dare you to have a mass genderbending incident.
Bonus points if you have an androgynous character - and no one can tell the difference.
Double bonus points if they then are forced to change to ridiculous gender-morphed names.
Triple bonus points if there is awkward exploration of new bodies.
Quadruple bonus points if the villain never even notices.
Quintuple bonus points if this is some vital plot point (or a horribly backfired plan.)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Interesting.
This might be fun! Taking note.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
does it count im alreadty doing that to like nine fairy tales?
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Will be taking some of these (unintentional innuendo, kosher salt in a spell, gaudy clothing)
I dare you to include a plan where one of the MCs must act as bait.
BP If they refuse to cooperate
TPB if you use the line "What do you mean why do I have a problem with being bait in a plan you admitted probably won't work?"
QBP if they end up using a dummy instead of the character
A batch of fresh chocolate cookies if the dummy is very obviously fake but it works anyway
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
hahaha, taking this purely for the TBP. awesome.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Don't know when I'm going to use it (Might be in a few years) but it is definitely going into my ever-growing collection of dares.
I dare you to have a character that never speaks
BP If this is never explained
DBP if all the other characters try to get him/her to speak
TBP if at a critical juncture the character speaks and saves the day with like one word (ie it might confuse the villain for those precious few seconds that this character who has never talked all of a sudden is talking)
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I think you should go QBP if the one word from the TPB is a profanity.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
....My MC is mute. \o/
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Sweet. I've already got a character that satisfies the dare, BP and DBP.
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
I'm going to go for TPB =3 thanks!
Re: Fantasy Dares 2011
Taking it.
