Well, I might as well post the dare I came up with last year.

Have your hero flip a coin to decide everything
1 bonus point: if this always results in him making the right choice.
2 bonus points: if the coin is double-sided
3 bonus points: if the hero knows this
4 bonus points: if this convinces the villain that there's a spell/blessing on the hero that causes the coin to land on the correct side.
5 bonus points: if the villain becomes extremely obsessed with removing the spell/blessing he's convinced the hero has.
6 bonus points: if this is the precise reason why the hero bothers flipping the coin.
7 bonus points: if the villain loses to the hero because he was too busy trying to remove the spell/blessing, to do much to stop the hero.
Piles of cookies: if the hero flips the coin when asked by the villain to join him.

Have the king assassinated.
1 bonus point if he is killed to establish a new king
2 bonus points if he was a good ruler
3 bonus points if the new king is a terrible ruler and makes all the wrong decisions
4 bonus points if the killer/new king is a member of the old king's family
5 bonus points if it was the second born in the family line
6 bonus points if he would have had just as much power as the king's brother, but killed his brother anyway just for the title
7 bonus points if he tries to kill the old king's child but fails
8 bonus points if the child grows up knowing nothing of his past, but some random old man gives him a five-minute history lesson on why he must lead a rebellion against his tyrant uncle
9 bonus points if the child leads the rebellion perfectly, despite having no military experience, and becomes an amazing ruler, despite lack of education
10 bonus points if the tyrant uncle has a mustache

I dare you to have your character stand in a grocery store aisle debating whether to use kosher or sea salt in a magical ritual.

I dare you to have a ranting blind seer show up, declare your MC's are the chosen ones, and send them on a quest.
Bonus points if the seer is a ranting lunatic.
Double bonus points if the characters realize this, but still try to accomplish the quest.
Triple bonus points if the seer declares a goat, fence post, small rock, half a brick, and/or a pair of lime green socks are chosen ones.

Bonus points if said circus is an important meeting place for your characters.
Triple points if your hero and the antagonist have a fight during the show and everybody thinks that's totally what should be happening.

I dare you to have a character who always wears ridiculous/guady clothing
BP if another character notices
DBP if the character that noticed tries to get the other character to wear normal clothing
TBP if this leads to an argument
QBP if at a critical juncture in your book the character uses a piece of his ridiculous attire to save the day.

It was all I could think of. And I might use it in my novel!

I dare you to have your traveling party bring along a magic user for the purposes of cooking their food -- a bit like a magical microwave.

Bonus points if the magic user is only good at cooking -- can't fight, can't divine, can't heal, just makes darn good food.
Extra bonus points if the mage sidetracks them from the quest in order to hunt down rare ingredients for gourmet meals.
Triple bonus points if enemies/rivals try to kidnap the mage in order to enjoy this cooking. (If the rest of the company treats the mage like a kitchen appliance, s/he might join the other group.)
Quadruple bonus points if the mage threatens to feed everyone nothing but stew if they don't do what s/he wishes.

A five star seven course dinner if the entire quest is to find cooking ingredients and serve a glorious banquet.

I'm probably going to use this, because I was thinking about killing off the king in my story. But too bad I don't have a tyrant uncle in my plot; I only have the king's son who wants to destoy the kingdom, so he decideds to kill his father so he could become king, but not after he forces FMC, with whom he is in love with, to marry him, just to secure his position as the next king. Oh, well.... ;)

(Inspired by my 2007 WriMo)

I dare you to have a food fight in your novel.
BP if everyone in the area joins in.
DBP if it takes place in a completely inappropriate place (wedding feast, five star diner, royal banquet hall)
TBP if you get more than 1667 words out of the food fight.
QBP if the foot fight is important to the plot.

I might take this one, just because it fits one of my groups of characters so well. Also, I might even try for the QBP, since this particular group gets called out on everything near the end.
One thing: does a dare count if you were going to do it anyway? I actually already have 2 characters with unnecessarily long titles and I have 2 borderline pyromaniac characters, none of which actually posses fire magic.

DBP if the character doesn't realize what they're doing.
TBP if this character tries to flirt with your MC or one of their party.

DBP if this is not used as a one-off joke.

I was already doing the non-generic medieval european. It's a steampunk novel, more Victorian than medieval, though... still sort of Europe.

Also, one of my two male main characters disguises himself as a girl in order to get into the sovereign's palace and make contact with the other male main character. No one questions a pretty young girl going into the earl's chambers. They <em>would</em> wonder about the young man, however.

I dare you to have a villain who's a sinister aardvark.

1 bonus point if everyone sees him and makes a wrong guess about what animal he is, making him respond with "no, I'm an Aardvark! A Sinister one!" Alternatively, if he is identified as an aardvark, he always adds "Sinister aardvark."

2 bonus points if he was turned into an aardvark after he tried to turn the hero into an aardvark.

3 bonus points if his sinister actions are consistent with aardvark behavior.

4 bonus points if he's really a powerful demon who has to take an animal form...and for reasons unknown, choose an aardvark. Double if his other choice was a duck-billed platypus. Triple if there's a rational justification for why an aardvark was the best form. Quadruple if there's also a rational explanation for the platypus.

Since I'm writing a fantasy western:

1 bonus point if you use firearms in your novel
2 bonus points if firearms are period accurate, or reasonably so
3 bonus points if firearms are neutral (good people and bad people have equal chance of using firearms, the universe doesn't hate firearms, etc.)
4 bonus points if firearms are one of the protagonists' main weapon
5 bonus points if the firearm being disable or unusable becomes a major plot point
If firearms are race specific, x2 bonus points for being used or invented by a race nobody expects. (ie not humans or dwarves)

Taking: (I am writing a book in which nothing is ever supposed to make sense, and everything is done for no reason at all, so technically, I could take on as many dares as I wanted)

Have a character who carries a box every where
+If it is locked
++If said character doesn't know what is in the box
+++If at the end of the story they get it open and it has something extremely stupid in it

- love it!! :D

Have a character that always speaks in the 3rd person

+ You never explain why this character speaks in the 3rd person
++If the reason they never speak in 1st person has something to do with their mysterious past
+++if that reason involves oversized caribou and talking snow leopards
+++if said character is your favorite character and can royally kick arse
++++if said character hates violence and only fights to protect themself.
+++++if said character is a violet eyes albino

I dare you to have a character that never speaks
+ If this is never explained
++ if all the other characters try to get him/her to speak
+++if at a critical juncture the character speaks and saves the day with like one word (ie it might confuse the villain for those precious few seconds that this character who has never talked all of a sudden is talking)

-that one was already happening! She's my main character. :)

How do you mean, the "seasons are original". I mean... winter, spring, summer, fall - these happen because the earth revolves around the sun. To have seasons totally unlike any of these four - anywhere in the world (because different biomes experience the seasons differently) - you're world would have to be completely and utterly different from "reality".

For the record...
I have an entire world that I am <em>building</em>, no humans (although humanoids exist); many, many biomes; chocolate (because I can't imagine a world with no chocolate) and... major characteristics of the world <em>have</em> been important for the plot.

Have your heroes ride off to battle on Shetland war ponies.
Bonus points if they are too tall for the ponies.
Double bonus points if your story is an urban fantasy, or takes place in an environment where equine travel isn't practical.

BP if they try to escape.
DBP if they yell at you about goings on in said novel.
TBP if you yell back.

Include the line, "Not another naked criminal!" somewhere in your novel.
BP if the main character says it.
DBP if it is somehow critical to the plot.
TBP if the MC is the naked criminal.

Have a character that only speaks in internet memes.
BP if this is a main character.
DBP if this character can communicate effectively.
TBP if internet does not exist in your setting.

It's just that nobody declares them chosen except the One who chose them— their God. (I figured out a while ago that the reason why "Chosen One" cliches bug me so much— aside from being overdone, of course— is that so often they forget to answer the question, "Who chose them?" Or they're annoyingly vague about it.)

Have a character who carries a box every where
+If it is locked
++If said character doesn't know what is in the box
+++If at the end of the story they get it open and it has something extremely stupid in it

Bonus points if someone, for some reason, decides to get into a fist fight with a hobo.
Extra bonus points if this gets him into jail.
Even more bonus points if the fight is the sole reason your plot exists.
Yet more bonus points if the hobo is actually his dad.

Include a person with rainbow hair in your novel
BP: If everyone else has naturally colored hair
TBP: If no one notices the odd colors of their hair
QBP: If people notice, but the character claims its natural
A bag of chips: If it really is their natural color

Have a character who is completely aware that she or he is in a novel.

TBP if you yell back.

I dare you to use the line, "Wow, I bet no one's ever said THAT before."

Bonus points if someone else claims they HAVE said it before.
Double bonus points if it's already been said before in this book.
Triple if it's something people say all the time.
Quadruple if it's said all the time in OUR world, but never before in theirs.

I dare you to have a character who always wears ridiculous/guady clothing
BP if another character notices
DBP if the character that noticed tries to get the other character to wear normal clothing

QBP if at a critical juncture in your book the character uses a piece of his ridiculous attire to save the day.

I can do this - my entire plot takes place in a city. All my directions are in relation to street names and major landmarks.

Shh. It's a mystery. Everyone thinks his consort did it because said consort is getting a little too old for his job.

Also, the Empress is not so much a terrible ruler because she makes bad decisions, but because she's a sadistic evil controlling bitch.

Also, said consort's father (the Emperor's Justice) definitely is playing both sides of this...

Indeed, he dies in the first chapter. His replacement, much later on, is He Who Rules from the Court of Summer.

We have shortened these, we have, because the individual sleeping with them (Night and No Stars) finds all of that terribly awkward. 'Sun-in-Glory' and 'Summer' and 'No Stars' it is!

TBP: If there's a complicated system of which instruments are the best based on how good the food that you can make using each instrument is.
QBP: If playing out of tune causes very odd things to happen to your characters at some point.

I dare you to have your fantasy races speak different languages.
1 bonus point if a character struggles to learn another language.
2 bonus points if this leads to a plot-important miscommunication.
3 bonus points if the characters decide to hire an interpreter after the miscommunication.
4 bonus points if your characters can't afford to keep the interpreter around for their entire quest.
5 bonus points if the interpreter decides to help them out pro bono because their cause is so heroic and important.
6 bonus points and a tray of cookies if the interpreter decides to help them out pro bono because s/he is the villain or one of the villain's henchmen and has been mistranslating this entire time to make sure they couldn't communicate.

I dare you to have your heroes held accountable for any property damage they cause in the name of stopping the villain.
1 bonus point if they have to hold a normal job for a while to be able to afford it.
2 bonus points if the villain actually causes less property damage than the heroes.
3 bonus points if this is a part of the villain's plan to keep the heroes too underfunded to properly fight him/her.
ALL THE POINTS if the villain's true aim is actually to stabilize the local economy and just uses the heroes' destructive ways as a method to create jobs.

Have a character that always speaks in the 3rd person

+1 if they think it's a dream (but it's not),
+2 if they carry on because if it's a dream it doesn't matter
+3 and because they think "well I need the practise anyway",
+4 if it's somehow linked into what they're talking about,
+5 if they get top marks because of their teacher thinks that they've given a good speach and it shows they've got "nerve"
+6 if it's then they realise that it's not a dream.

And extra choclatey fudge cake to anyone who makes this an important plot point! (And sprinkles if because they did it naked things turn out better for them than if they hadn't!)

I dare you to do a vampire who is any of the following:
A. Gay
B. Transgender
C. Transvestite
D. Elderly
E. A baby
F. Disabled
G. Not interested in sex. (though not asexual either.)

I dare you to do Jesus as a Zombie. (Per Colbert report, Halloween episode)
+1 if you manage to insert Colbert with the Zombie.
+2 if you take more of the original joke and make it work logically...
+3 if you really make it really bannable.
+13 if you get all the Disciples in with their various gruesome deaths as equivalent Fantasy monsters.
+ 7 for mentioning other saints as monsters (with their deaths made into monsters)
+666 if you manage to make it for Young Adult.

Werewolf Vampire. 'nough said. And yes, stole the idea from the possibilities of Twilight.

I dare you to look up the top silliest reasons that books have been banned and do them ALL.
Examples: "because rape is soft porn"
"Because the book is a downer."
"Because the child broke a plate instead of washing it."
"Because a child was making jokes about eating his sister."
"Because there is Black in the title."

+200 if you manage to get it published.
+500 if you get it banned for the same reasons.
+10,000 if you manage to use a pen name to either something like "IP Freely." or a name linked to communism (another reason a book got banned.)

And because dares should be difficult... do all the previous dares before this post and make it make sense.

Your MC gets a paper cut.
+1 if he gets in reading a book with the same title as the one he's in.
+2 if it hurts throughout the story.
+3 if it hurts throughout the story, but cheasily heals in the end.
+4 if it hurts at the most important situations and renders the MC incapable.
+1000000 if the important situations are that the MC has to hold a cut open lemon in his hands to save the world.

A random scream is placed in your book.
+1 if the characters notice it, but think nothing about it.
+2 if it's a little girl screaming.
+3 if it's a little girl getting kidnapped.
+4 if it's a little girl getting kidnapped right behind them.
+5 if the other characters notice the scream, the girl, and the kidnapper, but continue with their previous task at hand.
+6 if the characters are looking for something to do or someone to help.

I dare you to:
Have a magic system where the characters have to choose a word to be their special power.

Bonus points if the most of the characters don't know that the process is actually important at the time
Double bonus points if said oblivious/uninformed characters spend the majority of the novel trying to figure out how to use their "useless" powers
Triple bonus points if said characters end up saving the day with their immensely "original" powers
Quadruple bonus points if one character chooses the word "Revive"
Quintuple bonus points if said character is always, always used as bait (as in "Hmm, we're not sure if this situation is okay *pushes* *death rattle* Well, I guess we shouldn't do that then...")
Sextuple bonus points if at one point the "Revive" character gets badly wounded (so much so that he would slow down the group), and one of the group members callously throws him/her off a building/decapitates/other method of killing, checks, and says, "Okay, he/she's dead now. Let's go. He/she can catch up later."

I dare you to do a vampire who is any of the following:
A. Gay
B. Transgender
C. Transvestite
D. Elderly
E. A baby
F. Disabled
G. Not interested in sex. (though not asexual either.)
Well, the father of one of my MCs isn't exactly gay, he's more of the "love at first sight" kind and it just so happens that he's totally alright if it's BOTH a guy and a girl. How they got that to work still baffles me, but since their kid is one of my MCs I guess I can't complain. And then there's his mother, who's seriously elderly by now, and still holding a grudge over the son that chose love over filial piety (though she doesn't quite see it that way).

Not that they really appear in this NaNo, but if I can find the time I'll write both this and its direct sequel concurrently-ish, and then they'll appear.

I'll also take those, as that is the most recent post. Why did I agree to take the most recent dare I see and add it to a book?! Oh, right, cause it's a bit crazy and it seemed like it could be fun. (I'm just lucky I didn't spot that dare from earlier that involved incorporating all previous dares.)

leaving this dare:

Add a dragon to the story with no warning to the reader or characters.
Double points if the dragon your MC is very unimpressed by the dragon.
Triple points if one of the character's in your party wants to keep it as a pet.
Quadruple points if they do get to have the dragon pet.
Cookies if the dragon ends up eating the character that wanted to keep it as a pet.

"Have a character be secretly evil."

Already done, though the character himself doesn't even know he's secretly evil. haha.

I'm probably going to use a lot of random ones in my novel now. :) These are always fun to read through to get random ideas.

Definitely including these two, though:

Include the line, "Not another naked criminal!" somewhere in your novel.
BP if the main character says it.

Have a character who carries a box every where
+If it is locked
++If said character doesn't know what is in the box
+++If at the end of the story they get it open and it has something extremely stupid in it

and likely this one 'cause it makes me laugh, though I don't know how many of the dares I'll do in it:
Bonus points if someone else claims they HAVE said it before.
Double bonus points if it's already been said before in this book.
Triple if it's something people say all the time.
Quadruple if it's said all the time in OUR world, but never before in theirs.

A few of the above dares were already going to be in my novel. For example the one with telling the story from the villain's point of view. My story is shifting between two points of view and the reader will have to decide who is the villain and who is the hero. Also, the one with including an angel in the story. Though in that one I'm missing out on all of the bonus poins because of how angels work in my setting.

This one seems interesting, though:

DBP if the non-Earth resident gets the reference.

That's a fun dare. Probably easier for me to do the actual James Bond reference as I lazily haven't given my MC a last name yet!

Dare:

BP If the magician is inept.
DBP If the magician does the exact opposite of what s/he wants to do every time.
TBP If the magician saves the day at any point because the spell cast is the opposite of what the other characters want, but it works.
Cookies if you can write all this without the magician being an annoying character.

2 bonus points if the religion that viewed the city as holy at first is long gone
3 bonus points if a war breaks out over the control of the city

Have a character who uses unnecessary suffixes to what he/she says
1 bonus point if it is "of Doom"
2 bonus points if the character never forgets the suffix
3 bonus points if other characters also start doing this after a while, despite having disliked it at first
4 bonus points if it is used on words that already have a suffix (e.g. The Forest of Fear of Doom)
5 bonus points if the first suffix also is "of Doom" (e.g. The Lands of Doom of Doom)
6 bonus points if it actually becomes important for the story (as more than an "in-joke")
Religion challenge accepted and passed, its the entire premise of my story. However, I've been playing around with adding a wisecracking pirate that will totally add suffixes sarcastically now. This thread is awesome.

I dare ye:

To have the characters play a fantasy Pen and Paper RPG in some capacity during the story:
+1: have the characters play classes that fit them (the wizard is playing a wizard)
+2: One character dies in game
+3: The game played turns out to be prophetic
+4: The DM turns out to be the big villian
+5: The game is actually played in a medieval setting (Ye Olde Dungeons and Dragons)

Also:
To have one of the characters be a serious fan of some tv show/book:
+1: If the character's life parallels one of the tv/book's characters
+2: If both characters are the heroes
+3: If the tv show/book character makes a decision the character doesn't agree with
+4: If the rest of the group starts getting the tv show/book character and the actual character confused

Will be taking some of these (unintentional innuendo, kosher salt in a spell, gaudy clothing)

I dare you to include a plan where one of the MCs must act as bait.
BP If they refuse to cooperate
TPB if you use the line "What do you mean why do I have a problem with being bait in a plan you admitted probably won't work?"
QBP if they end up using a dummy instead of the character
A batch of fresh chocolate cookies if the dummy is very obviously fake but it works anyway

TBP: At all. Not even jokes.

BP: If you villian, antagonist, arch nemesis, really annoying guy/gal, ect some how sneaks into the game.

2 bonus points if the evil deeds the villain does are no worse than those of the hero
3 bonus points if many characters are confused and joins the villain's side
4 bonus points if the reader is equally confused
5 bonus points if you do not reveal it at all
6 bonus points if the villain dies at the end when people still believe that he is the hero

Have a hero who is forced to do the opposite of heroic most of the time
1 bonus point if he has to lock a princess in a tower
2 bonus points if he has to get rid of a magical weapon of some kind
3 bonus points if he has got to allow the evil overlord to conquer the world/country/whatever

Have your characters carry around their ancestors' spirits at all times without being aware of them
1 bonus point if the ancestors notice things their descendants fail to see and try to warn them without succeeding
2 bonus points if the ancestors of two characters can see and spak with one another at will
3 bonus points if the ancestors of the hero and the villain get along very well and try to make their respective descendants to live in peace with one another
4 bonus points if the ancestors of two characters who are in love are enemies and try to sabotage the relationship
5 bonus points if there is a character who can see the ancestors of others and tries to resolve the conflicts
Actually, my plot mostly revolves around the characters KNOWING that their ancestor's spirit is inside them.

Actually did that one early on without the bonus points.
Sparrow and Gavin try to scam a free (or at least cheaper) meal so they dress Gavin up and announce him as some kind of uber special famous mage who works for some king at a faraway made-up country. The whole thing blows because there's a geography whizz in that place. Haha.

I Dare you to have a FILLER EPISODE, anime style. A lighthearted, amusing self contained mini story line either as a break from your main plot or between two main plots in the story.

1.) Take a break at a hot springs (inn or natural) or have a beach party.
      +peeping toms and indignant nudity
2.) Group hallucination / dream sequence
+ if magic mushrooms are involved.
3.) Haute Cuisine - your character(s) decide to sample the rarest dish in the land, but first they have to find/catch the ingredients
+ if it is Dragon Cuisine
4.)Investigate a character quirk: Why does the bad ass never take off his sun glasses? What would happen if you deprived the wizard of his favorite skull? Why does that vampire always levitate 5 inches off the ground? His/Her comrades suddenly have a burning desire to find out.

Extra special bonus: Turn all or most of your characters temporarily into small children (or chibify them if you understand the term) so that they can um, 'work out their issues' in a more appropriate way.

Didn't see this thread started yet, so here goes:

Have a ruler/organization/whatever murder someone as a distraction
1 bonus point if it is a regicide
2 bonus points if it leads to a war
3 bonus points if that was the planned distraction
4 bonus points if the other nations/groups/whatevers see through the ruse but play along
5 bonus points if the plan backfires in the end
At the point where I'm at now it was a planned distraction and let's see, it might backfire in the end.

Have a ruler/organization/whatever murder someone as a distraction (5)
2 bonus points if it leads to a war
3 bonus points if that was the planned distraction
- I wonder if a battle counts as a distraction. The main villain started a battle during a hurricane to kidnap my main character's sister.

Have a "holy" city in your world that all religions view as holy (6)
1 bonus point if none of the religions had anything to do with the city in the beginning
2 bonus points if the religion that viewed the city as holy at first is long gone
3 bonus points if a war breaks out over the control of the city
- The main city of Alesia is the holy city. It was lost during a war before my book, to the main villain. A group of rebels are currently fighting over it. The religion is kinda long gone by now, though the goddess lives. The holy city was moved, but is nothing compared to the main city.

Have a technologically inferior race/people defeat those who are superior to them
- this will eventually come about, but not for a bit. and not in this book. later in the series though.

Have a hero who is forced to do the opposite of heroic most of the time
-hmmm he's killed many innocents and has to kill his own sister, and condemns his village, and endangers the temple city. Endangers everyones lives just to save his sister. Though nothing is under this.

DBP: if they actually make an appearance in the novel
TBP: if neither of them die
Double fudge brownie ice cream if you love your moms!!!

Hmm, I guess I actually did one of these things without realizing it. XD

(The dad's shotgun did get cut in half by one of the bad guys in the third chapter... but aside from that there's absolutely no plans for my main character's parents to be dead, injured, or otherwise any worse off by the end of the story.)

I will gladly take this challenge. It might push me a bit out of my comfort zone, as my stories do tend to be very male-centric. (I should write what I know, right?) That is something I wanted to work on in the future, but now is as good a time as any!

Question, though, do the characters have to have real names, or do code names work as well? (I have some female agents in my novel, and I get just give them some time away from the boys.)

Leaving this dare:
Add characters that are about 3 apples high.
BP if the characters are cute.
TBP if there are over 100 of them.
QBP if they are poisonous.
Cookies if they sing when they kill.

Re: Fantasy Dares 2011

<em>So</em> tempting......

No way to predict how far I'd take any of these; I just listed entire groups.
I <em>know</em> I won't be doing these in a single story, and they probably won't be more than throwaway lines/scenes where they do appear (though I'd be interested in trying to make them more plot-centric when I can), but here are the dares I'd like to do:

I dare you to have a ranting blind seer show up, declare your MC's are the chosen ones, and send them on a quest.
Bonus points if the seer is a ranting lunatic.
Double bonus points if the characters realize this, but still try to accomplish the quest.
Triple bonus points if the seer declares a goat, fence post, small rock, half a brick, and/or a pair of lime green socks are chosen ones.
Cookies if the goat saves the world.

Include the line, "Not another naked criminal!" somewhere in your novel.
BP if the main character says it.
DBP if it is somehow critical to the plot.
TBP if the MC is the naked criminal.

I dare you to have a wizardly side character who has a legendary reputation but is actually horrible at magic!
1 bonus point if he accidentally transforms the hero into a ferret.
2 bonus points if he accidentally transforms the hero into a villain.
3 bonus points if he accidentally transforms the hero into a villainous ferret.
Major cookies if he has a long white beard that the ferret hides in.

I dare you to have a magic system based off of playing musical instruments.
BP: If all of the musical instruments do different things.
DBP: If musicians can only communicate through musical instruments.
TBP: If there's a complicated system of which instruments are the best based on how good the food that you can make using each instrument is.
QBP: If playing out of tune causes very odd things to happen to your characters at some point.
Cookies: If you somehow manage to work singing into this.

Include the line "Out! Out brief candle!" (From Macbeth)
BP: if it is shouted at a candle
DBP: if the candle shouts back and refuses
TBP: if the person shouting at the candle proceeds to blow it out anyway
cookies: if it's a gag candle and can therefore never be blown out =]

I Dare you to have a character that is always getting ready for a Zombi Invasion
BP: If they collect random things because "You just never know what you'll need when the Zombi's attack"
DBP: If zombi's don't exist in your world.

Dare:
Have a magician that is very young.
BP If the magician is inept.
DBP If the magician does the exact opposite of what s/he wants to do every time.
TBP If the magician saves the day at any point because the spell cast is the opposite of what the other characters want, but it works.
Cookies if you can write all this without the magician being an annoying character.

Have a unicorn appear in your world.
BP: If it is set in modern day.
DBP: If you know NOT to add wings to it.
TBP: If it talks.
Cookies: If it speaks Spanish.

Here is my Dare for all of you.
I dare you to have you novel pass the Alison Bechdel Test.
1) You must have two named female characters.
2) They must have a conversation with each other
3) It must be about something other than a man (doesn't matter if it is a lover, brother, or king).
That is all.

I dare you to include any or all of the following lines:
"Because it's funny is not a good excuse to turn enemy troops into fluffy, pink bunnies."
"That's the last time I hire discount assassins."
"Look! Something distracting!"
"Why do all of your plans end with 'end then run'?"

"I am the great and mighty overlord of the evil castle of doom!"
BP if he always introduces himself this way.
DBP if the heroes ridicule him for his ridiculous title.
TBP if he gets whacked on the head and gets the title all mixed up.
QBP if his real name is Fran.
Cookies if the heroes defeat him because they whack him before he can finish saying his title.

Bp if he calls himself a Taurtaur
Dbp if he really is a hybrid
Tbp if he thought he was kidding.
Qbp if he falls in love with a human woman whom may or may not be half mermaid.

Re: Fantasy Dares 2011

Okay, I think I've worked it out.

The character in question was formally named 'Mr. Ian Woo" in the story.
Instead, I can do the name one of two ways. I can name him "Asterion," and give the name "Mr. Ian Woo" to my binder/necromancer.
Or I can just leave the name with the TaurTaur, by way of naming him "Asterian" (a deliberate misspelling on my part), and he often goes by "Ian."
And his child would be named "Aster" or "Ester" or something similar. Or an Asian name; Woo is Chinese, isn't it? And "Aster/Ester" both mean "star." So Xing (or Hoshi if I want to go Japanese) could work for the kid. I'm dealing with a crew of pirates who've traveled the entire planet; I'm not exactly limited to what culture I pick my names from. http://www.20000-names.com/star_names.htm (Oddly enough, I've found more female names on that list that I like than male. Odder still is I was thinking the kid could be a girl before I even looked up the list....)

He's half centaur half minotaur.
The crew teases him about his claims; they've never seen the other people from his homeland, and he <em>does</em> look perfectly human...though he <em>is</em> the "massive" crew member that sometimes takes over for the (equally massive and entirely human) captain when size and strength are necessary.

The trick would be making the dare relevant to the story.
I could just do it as a throwaway type of idea, a minor character detail, but I don't want to. On the other hand, I could "reveal" that he really is such a hybrid after the MC is rescued, as the TaurTaur would be one of the few remaining members of the original crew.
Ooh, the crew gets help from the TaurTaur's islands and the mermaids and such to fight in the war!

Re: Fantasy Dares 2011

I realize that I've done... let's see..... A (a trio of side characters, if you include lesbians and not just gay males), possibly B/C (one of the main characters, who, depending on what/who he/she currently is, could really classify as "all of the above"), D (B/C's former blood-brother and now enemy), E (depending on what age one considers "baby," but anyway, yes, extremely young), F (B/C's blind son), and 2 Gs (actually one of the other main characters. And possibly his sister, though she might be asexual, not just celibate.)

Oh, and I had a lycanthrope also turned into a vampire, but she wasn't exactly a werewolf, so I'm not sure if that counts. Though, the werewolves from Twilight were also supposedly shapeshifters-that-just-happened-to-be-traditionally-wolves in the end, so it might.

Let's just say that there was an episode in which the entire cast was vampire-ized. (Also including a dragon vampire, an-already-undead-but-now-more-undead vampire, god and goddess vampires, and.... so on. No zombies, though. =P)

I think I've also included some cannibal jokes, and some of it can be considered a downer, too. |D No broken plates, though.

I dare you to have a character behead foes or stab them repeatedly after a fight, and if asked why, says, "I'm making sure they're dead."
BP if it happens more than once.
DBP if it's the villain.
TBP if it's the hero.
QBP if this method of making sure turns out to be ineffective.

BP, if he is the soul entertainer at some place.
DBP, if everyone thinks he/she is awsome.
TBP, If the only reason people think he/she is awsome is because there using a spell and nobody remembers the song.
4BPs, if only one person notices.
5BPs, if that one person is NOT a MC.
6BPs, if this person has to tell the MCs.
7BPs, if the musician is a villian in disguise.
Cookies, if the only reason they took the gig was to catch the MCs.
Eternal greatness, if, they took the gig before they knew about the MCs, but, took it because of them. (You have to figure out all the things behind this, ha ha!)

DBP if you use them all
Cookies if you can squeeze them into one sentence.

I dare you to include a character who freaks out at the sight of blood.
Double bonus points if it's a member of a party of sword-and-sorcery type adventures.
Triple bonus points if it's the best fighter in the story. (Yeah, the straw men didn't bleed.)
Quadruple bonus points if it's the vampire's love interest.
A million bonus points if it's a vampire.
Cookies if you include them all.

I dare you to have a character suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.
Bonus points if it's because of events in the story.
Double bonus points if it's the main character.
Triple bonus points if it's the villain.
Cookies if it affects the climax of the story.
