750 Words

http://www.750words.com

A writing site based on the idea of "morning pages," to get you to write three pages every day (roughly 750 words) - write anything at all. Journal, prose, homework, parts of your novel, brainstorming, or just a general mind dump.

It's completely private and no one will ever read what you write unless you copy and paste it elsewhere, although automatic programs built into the site study what you've written (words and verb tense and such) and give you statistics about your writing everyday. You can also get badges for streaks of writing - three days, ten days, thirty, etc. - as well as overall wordcount, writing speed, lack of distractions, and even completing Nano through the site.

Simple and easy, it's a distractionless place to just write.

So far I've pretty much used it for brainstorming ideas for NaNo. I missed one day, however, because I got home from work just after midnight and it had already clicked over to the next day. However that just gave me a really early start on the next day. :)

Facebook is just one of the login options, you can also use Google, Yahoo or OpenID.

I love 750words (I have most of the badges), but I have had issues in the past with it chopping off the end of entries, so I would recommend you copy/paste everything you write there. At the moment I'm planning to use it for NaNo in conjunction with My Writing NOOK (I refuse to cave to Barnes & Noble even if the owner had to); switching beween the two for writing and archiving on both.

The only problem I found when I attempted Camp NaNo on there was that I missed my daily braindump and lapsed back into journalling, so I may set up a second account purely for NaNo purposes and try to keep my journalling to one of my many unused notebooks.

I am a WAY big fan of 750words (started using it shortly after he soft-launched it in January 2010; my streak is currently 618 days). It has, without a doubt, changed my life.

This is my first NaNo, but I have definitely had days where I was trying to work through some issue in my head and ended up blazing past 3000 words. Also, for those having saving problems at the end -- check that the Saved number and the linked number at the bottom right corner match up. If they don't, you can force-save (command-S on the Mac, whatever is the normal combination for saving on Windows etc.), and THEN go on to the next page.

Also I want a NaNo badge this year. I will admit that is a heavy portion of why I'm throwing myself into this.

I absolutly love this site. i think it is full of fantastic and amazing. It makes it so much easier to keep track of my writingwithout distractions - because it tells me how many times I was distracted while I was writing. Because of this, I have actually cut down on my distractions.

Can I just add to the love for this site. I think it's fantastic that you can't easily see what you wrote the day before. It stops me going back and editing. Editing is the easiest way of procrastinating for me, so to have the option taken away is pretty sweet.

Also I love the way the word count is presented. I can see what I've written each day, and the total for the month. I've been using other writing software too, and so keeping track of all the different documents and word count was a bit of a headache. Copy pasting everything onto 750 words means I can easily get a word count of what I've achieved that day, and get the running total to update here.

Plus on 1st December I can just export the whole month of writing as my first draft, ready to start editing!

Re: 750 Words

So, just fired it up and wrote almost 1100 words describing some history and characters in a Superhero universe I'm developing. Great motivational tool, thanks. :)

Incidentally, the stats I got are kind of hilarious:
Rating: PG-13 for violence.
Feeling: Upset followed by Self-important.
Thinking about: Death followed by success.

Look, is it my fault the heroes in my world consist mostly of ruthless vigilantes and two failed businessmen?

Love this site. I think I found it on here, before NaNo, and used it the couple weeks building up to NaNo. It helped greatly to get myself back up to writing speed. I fell off the wagon for a couple days, towards the end of NaNo, but I'm getting back on and using this.

Love 750 :) I took up the December challenge, finding myself moving along smoothly... 750 words a day is cake compared to my Nano goals (which have always been 2500/day but this year I didn't feel the vibe and couldn't get into the story :x).

Okay, recently got myself to start this ... via my livejournal log-in, lol.
But I can't get myself to write every day /:
Lack of motivation, I guess. At least for Nano I could write just 'everything', I don't know how to get that feeling back unless it's November xD
Meh. Let's see about it. I didn't write the last two days now. /: Since I always stop at the minimum of 750 I even got a short story going right now.

I can't login to this site from my livejournal account anymore.
Help, anyone? The "support" page on this website is pretty much the same as it also "works" with open id ... just not with livejournal anymore. /: Obviously it's too much to ask for that the creator of the website actually explains why it doesn't work anymore. For several weeks now.

I absolutely love this. I honestly thought I'd just feel unmotivated then hate myself for giving up yet another thing at the first hurdle, but it's actually changing the way I brainstorm ideas. I can't wait to have enough ideas going to actually start writing something using it - I'm curious to see how it changes that too...

Thank you for the link!!! :D
