Writing Excuses Podcast

I just wanted to share this link:

http://www.writingexcuses.com/

It's a very useful podcast on writing tips. Listening to it sometimes help motivate me when I'm stuck and I think I've learned a lot from listening. It's had 6 seasons by now so it covers the whole gamut: characterization, worldbuilding, plotting, etc. etc. Although it's geared toward speculative fiction, a lot of what they have to say could apply to other genres as well, I think. Not to be missed is season 3, episode 14.

Re: Writing Excuses Podcast

I am addicted to this podcast. I have listened to seasons 1-4 in one strait run over the summer and now I'm ready to write for the first time. Apparently your not supposed to do that, but oh well. I thought that a good NaNoWriMo would be all the writing prompts form this podcast. I was totally going to do that too, but then I had a *BAM* moment and found a really great novel idea. So, I outlined the crap out of it and am all set to give it a go. Brandon would be so proud of me. Oh, and if you buy the CD's like I did (at poddisk.com) you also get a bunch of extra stuff like bonus episodes and outline doc.'s.

The most wonderful writing class I ever took!

My girlfriend and I hide in the cinema first kiss, I almost spit up, because I not used to the taste of her saliva.

I said to her: "In the future we do not kiss, okay?" She said: "Good!"

Because I want to vomit, she had spit up!

This is my first kiss, a romantic accident.

I agree. This podcast is great! I found some podcasts from season 6 and 7 on itunes the other day and find it really helpful for writing, especially since its only 15 minutes long.

Re: Writing Excuses Podcast

I love Writing Excuses! I think the short group podcasts work best for me; I've listened to Mur before but I had a hard time getting interested in the show.

StoryWonk Daily is another writing podcast that I love. It's the same 15(ish) minute format as WE hosted by a surprisingly endearing married couple. It's more casual than WE, partly because of the daily updates, and the casters don't always stick strictly to writing craft; one week was devoted to the philosophy of humor, which is important to writing without necessarily being a skill one can acquire. It was more of a sense of why some humor might work rather than 'here's what's funny'.
