Letter From London To Vienna

Does anyone have an idea on how long it would take for a letter to be sent from London to Vienna around the year 1850? I have some information on how long the mail coach could deliver within the country, but not from one country to another.

Most likely not longer than six weeks. It may be a wild guess, but it took that long for letters to go from England to India via the Suez Isthmus (or the Overland Route established in the 1830s/1840s), so Vienna is closer, I think, so I think one could logically conclude no longer than six weeks? (If someone has better information, please feel free to correct me...)

Re: Letter From London To Vienna

Probably as long as it would take to get there by train. Railways were fast becoming the norm and often used for mail. Let's say about a week?

I don't think you could have got to Vienna going by train all the way by 1850. The railway system in Austria was practically non-existent by then.
